That is great saving. I wonder if we can get SMS while overseas for free?

    • +2

Don't think so, but you can buy addons.

Also, make sure to signup using a new Kogan account on the app and apply code APPLOVE to get a further saving of $5 to make total $95!!

(And use Cashback'ed GCs if possible!)

      • +1

Your comment quickly changed from a super confident “yes” to an uncertain “don’t think so” as soon as BG commented 😂😂😂

      • this code APPLOVE is not working for me, tried with both new different account and different devices

        • It should work, the code has a $100 mininium spend & has to be done on the Kogan App.

          • @AkuroPlays: Yes, so I've added this $100 voucher in cart and then applying the code, says code invalid and still shows $100 while checkout

      • Has something changed recently? See thread here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/763686

People are saying that with most providers you can receive text messages. It worked for me with Belong in August.

        • Too confusing with their T&C’s, but if people have confirmed, then it’s safe to assume you can

      • *International Roaming Pack can be used while you are in the following 30 countries.

there’s no roaming And No SMS for other destinations.

    • +4

If going overseas, consider a Telstra reseller.

Assuming your phone supports dual-SIM and VoWifi, you can put in a local data SIM, and your Australian number will work over that (or the hotel wifi) without having to pay any roaming fees. Optus and Voda have geo-blocking to stop you doing this.

    • I got OTP`s while overseas.

    • Boost worked for me flawless while i was overseas couple of months ago. I even maked some calls to Australia and it was just like i was in Australia.

    • +1

I believe you do. Just cant reply via SMS.

This deal has been going on now for over a month.
      Nothing new really

Be aware that Kogan reception is CRAP once you get out of metro areas.
And it just got a whole lot WORSE because Vodafone just shut down thier 3G network.

Fool be you to go with Kogan/Vodafone

      • Without 3g there would be no service when there's no 4g? was about to pull the trigger on 2x sims but after reading your comment I am not sure anymore

      • I wouldn't count on too much of Vodafone 3G anyway. That was the days of Vodafail.

My problem with Kogan, they are only giving monthly large plan 5G access. At lease with Vodafone I got 4G and 5G…..

I think is a no for me this time, may try when they give 5G access to all plans.

  • closest you will get to the costco black friday deal

  • +2

can you use these for renewal?

    • +7

Yep! Works for existing customers, they just email you a voucher & you can recharge once your plan is over.

      • +4

thanks! Renewal is in Jan, perfect timing

        • +1

          Awesome to hear :)

        • +1

          This exactly!

    • +4

You lose whatever remains of your current plan so act accordingly

  • What are Kogan mobile like here in Aus? I have a couple of family members on Kogan prepay in New Zealand and while the coverage and data speeds are okay, their monthly recharge is very dodgy. Family members pay month to month. If you leave the auto-recharge on, it recharges automatically 1 or 2 days before expiry so you effectively lose 1 or 2 days. If you turn auto-recharge off, somehow it turns back on after a few days or weeks. Have raised this with Kogan but they brush it off. Highly dodgy really but anyway, this seems like a good deal which I'm considering so just wanted to check the Aussie experience. Thanks.

    • I've never gone with Kogan monthly plans, I usually just go the full Flex deals. You pay on their Kogan.com website & I've never had to put my card details into Kogan Mobile's actual recharge website. I think some of your family members are going with the month-to-month plans (ie. the "Monthly Plan") and they may get charged due to this.

      • Thanks. Good to know. On the NZ website, you have to save your card details and cannot remove it yourself. To remove card details you have to contact Kogan.

    • +1

      vodafone reseller = ick

    • I've had awful reception on the Vodafone network in WA (Perth and surrounds)

  • What a saving, Mines not due for 5 months but im gonna stockpile the code! thanks OP

    • +14

Aye!! Watch out!! Don't buy if you don't need recharge by end of Jan!

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 31/01/2024.

      • Welp, ty ty haha

      • Thankyou. Mine is up on May, was about to jump on this deal but will wait until closer.

    • +2

it has an expiry "Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 31/01/2024"

    • +1

Go for the EOFY offers. Last hear 500GB was $150…….

  • +1

    Damn just bought 2 yesterday

    • +1

Same here, recharged both my parent's yesterday.

      • I sent them an email now - hopefully some refund will be given.

        • I’m in the same spot I contacted Kogan Mobile regarding the situation, they were unable to assist as I redeemed both vouchers yesterday. Let’s hope Kogan will consider offering a credit or another solution in this matter.

    • +1

They have the deal on black friday sales and need to be used before end of year. Look out for it next year.

    • +3

Ugh - careful around Christmas time - these Christmas deals come up EVERY year for the last 4 years that I can remember.

I literally wait for them to pop up to renew the kids every January.

Just FYI. Hopefully not too late but yeah they always come up.

  • Amazing prices. Thankyou!

  • Do they support eSIM?
    Thanks

    • -3

      Did you check the website?

    • +1

      Yes

      • Nice. Thanks.
I just activated my half year Vodafone plan. Hope that in 6months Kogan will have some similar deal

        • +3

I signed up with them during EOFY sale it was $150 for 500Gb so definitely a chance there.

          • @sauxliu: Same here and right at that time Kogan gave me $20 voucher and I got money back from Shop back which bought it under $120.

  • Loving the price of these but beware need to choose if you want it on a monthly or not. I got it by default 25gb per month not knowing I can choose, in fact it always runs out 10 days before new month refreshes. A tag annoying here

  • Do we have any service to check the coverage based on the area?

  • +1

Can this be paid using kogan gift card?

Currently Commonwealths bank have promostion of $10 cashback when spending $100 or more.
I was thinking to buy the gift card using this offer and use it to purchase the sim plan.

    • +1

You can pay with Kogan credit so there should be no problem.

      • thanks :)

      • Tried paying with kogan credit and reward points, redeemed my points and then threw an error. Have now lost the points and don't have a sim… Trying to navigate Kogans customer service for a resolution now but it appears to be non existent…

        • It sound like a bad idea to start off as Kogan gift card can only use at their site, not sure how many people still buy from them after all the negative comments….

Same thing happened to me during my purchase of Amaysim deal at Woolies. At least you can call or go back to the store to get it fixed. I got mine GC back after an hour from CS and use it for shopping, no big deal.

          • @syswong: can you use gifr card to my a sim card in WWS? I tried but doesn't work

    • did you buy the sim card with giftcard?

  • +1

Can anyone share how to cancel the auto recharge? Years ago they have this option in the App (or on the website) but recently I bought one for parents visiting here from overseas and since they are not making calls I only need to recharge whenever it's needed, but I couldn't find how to disable it anymore…

    • +1

Call them up it’s quite easy. Auto recharge for certain plans cannot be cancelled online apparently

      • -1

Thanks. Found a link posted on the OzBargan forum that disables auto charge.

  • One more question.
What will happend when your dedicated yearly GB finished? Speed will be lower or no more internet connection?

    • +1

If you use up everything then nope… You don't get any data. Though you will receive a text message about it when it hits 50% used, 85% used. I bought the $150 for 500gb yearly back in FY sales.

      • thanks

    • +1

No internet connection. You'll need to top-up for more data.

  • i won't just jump on these so quick, Kogan has no 5G for these plans and Vodafone without 5G kind of sucks.

The small plan to park a number or just call text and light browsing is ok. In my case I will get a $20 Vodafone data sim to tap in to my wife's 300Gb data. Or get the $40 monthly for $38. $10 different but don't need to run two sims. The free More telecom sim just sucks big time…. just like Mate.

Some of you can consider getting the small plan and use the endless supply of free boost sims for data.

    • +1

      I get nearly 200Mbps at home on Kogan/Voda 4G

  • Can you port from Vodafone to Kogan?

  • Vodafone. Check your coverage before committing. I live in a not big house but the back has way better reception than the front. It is wonderous how bad Vodafone reception could be inside verses outside of the house.

Don't have same problem with Optus or Telstra MVNO.

  • +2

Hate Kogan as a company but I've been using these plans for over 5 years now and don't know why more people don't. Laughable how some people spend $50/month+ for data they'll never use when I spend $180 for the entire year for more than most people could possibly need.

    • +1

The same reason why CommBank, Telstra and other big brands that are considered the "default" choice usually have the worst value compared to their smaller competitors.

Stupid people will just buy what everyone else is to play it safe. They're too scared to do some basic research, get cheaper deals and fully participate in the free market.

Smaller competitors have to attract people with better value and are more willing to sacrifice profit margin for growth.

It could also be reception in the areas they frequent. It's not necessarily Telstra > Optus > Vodafone. It all depends on how much money/effort they've put into the towers in your local area.

      • +1

Hey, I know it's off topic but do you mind sharing your bank of choice for the better loan value you are talking about?

        • I'm not going to point to a specific bank, but just remember to shop around. Most banks are bound by certain rules/regulations, so any "safety" you get with the big banks tend to be exaggerated.

Use comparison sites, make sure to scroll past the "default" order that tend to be a euphemism for "some banks bribe us more than others, so they're at the top".

Remember to factor in the value of things like offset accounts.

One off cashbacks should also be valued less, the bigger the loan, the smaller the impact they make. They tend to emphasise the big number and the "instant" nature of the cashback to fool stupid people into not looking at the actual rate.

Also, don't be afraid to take a better offer back to your current bank and threaten to leave. Don't just assume the loan rate that's advertised is the rate that everyone else is getting. Banks get a big chunk of their income from loans. They may be willing to sacrifice a bit of profit margin if it means keeping you.

The same cannot be said for savings rates. Banks don't care as much about that and will call your bluff if you try to threaten to leave.

          • @non-core promise: Thanks. I am with NAB and I threaten to leave them citing unloan is basically offering .4% less at the time, they basically said we don’t care, suit yourself.

            • @Rob321: NAB are the smallest of the big 4, but they're still one of the big 4.

Their response shouldn't be surprising. If you were the CEO of one of the big banks and you had a large proportion of stupid customers, would you bother to make products more competitive or just sit back and rake in the cash?

    • So have I, but I'm about to move away from them. The reception along my daily commute (train line) and even in places that I visit frequently (pub in Port Noarlunga on a Tuesday night and local shopping centre on the weekend) is just so bad now that I completely lose the ability to access Internet when I need it. From looking at Vodafone's coverage map online I should have 5G just about everywhere I go but my experience shows that to not be the case.

I don't have the same issues with the Boost SIM that I am currently using. Although it is a little more expensive it works, which at the end of the day is what I need.

      • Quote their site:
We are running a 5G access trial to new and existing mobile customers who sign up to or are already on our Large Monthly plans. This means that all Eligible Customers will have access to our 5G Network until further notice.

so your plan may not be eligible.

@mulimulix This topic has come up so many times. It depends on your situation. Me and my wife go through 200G a month on average, streaming WFH, …etc

I have long ditch NBN and only use mobile, get one large plan and data pool with a small plan. The bill is usually about $100 (remember I have no NBN cost). Then during and after the Wuhan Virus, I have my one phone pay for by company so only paying around $50 month now. The only catch is you cannot steam 4K(which I don't) on mobile network as it will burn through you data in no time. Good thing you don't have to look for hotspot to save your data, watch YouTube and work wherever you want as long as there is signal.

I am considering one of these plans though to just lower my own bill even further. Just annoying to run two sim at the same time.

      • That's why I said I don't know why "more people" don't, not all people. Obviously your situation is an outlier with how much data you need but the vast majority don't need anywhere near that much.

        • My point was the vast majority dont understand they don't need NBN but mobile only.

Without data pooling, most MVNOs are quite inflexible and in my opinion poor value.

Then it is hard for people to understand why they can do with our NBN. 80% people don't get it

  • Does anyone use this with a Poco X3 NFC by any chance? And if so does VoLTE/VoWiFi work?

It works with Optus but not Telstra, not sure if Vodafone/Kogan works.

  • What’s the best deal for a Telstra network? (Company requires us to use Telstra)

    • The only one using the full Telstra retail network is boost. Get yourself a cheap sim kit on eBay.

  • That is so effing cheap! I'm wondering if now that Voda have switched off their 3G spectrum and redistributed that to the 4G spectrum whether their service will improve. Will have to switch mobile data back to my Kogan SIM tonight and for the rest of the week to test.

    • It won't, the spectrum is going to Optus

      • Hmm, the article I read suggested that they (Vodafone) were going to redirect that spectrum towards their 4G service. Have you got a link to an article that states this?

        • Details are on whirlpool, there is a thread in the Vodafone section that has more technical details. They sold off the spectrum

  • +3

I have Kogan and was overseas the last couple of months. I left the Kogan sim off most of the time as i had Travelkon esim. But occasionally i would need to receive an sms for financial transactions. I would turn it on and receive my code then turn it off. Id also get messages from Kogan telling me I didn’t have roam access and inviting me to buy it.

    • Very helpful thanks

    • I kept Kogan on, it's prepaid, wont cost you anything. I'd prefer a local SIM than international one if available.

  • Is this 4G only or 5G too? Doesn't say on the site.

    • I believe it's only 4G, except for the monthly large plan which is part of a 5G trial until further notice.

    • I have the large monthly plan and have 5G. However, not sure for the other smaller sized plans.

  • Does anyone know if Kogan still charges for call forwarding?

  • I have a cba spend $50 get $10 back and an Amex spend $50 get $10 back across a few cards. Anything stopping me buying and paying with gift cards for SIM cards?
