thats an absolute bargain for a weekend warrior. there one of the only ones to have battery capability and direct solar input. if i didnt have a 90L permanently in the back of the ute id have to get one of these!

    • +2

Have been trying to find reviews of this unit on youtube and while there are some its not very comprehensive. I think ive stumbled on the fact that this exact same model is sold as 'Newair' in the states; heaps of reviews searching for 'newair 80qt' on youtube and the unit looks identical to the brass monkey.

  • Ordered thanks

Stock in Hornsby and Mona Vale

  • Amazing deal for the size and specs. I'm loving my little 15L @ $150 but it was annoying having to pay $69 for a mains power adapter, and the 15.6ah battery is horrendously dear @ $269. Thankfully got a deal on eBay at $215 and after cashback makes it a bit better.

    • Where did you get the battery for $215

      • Radio Parts on eBay. Using BF22 code.

    • how do you like the battery? Got the same fridge when it was on sale but no battery so far. I do a lot of driving for work and lots of turning the car on and off so I'm thinking about getting a 7.6ah

      • Haven't received it yet. I am going to alternate between using mine inside the house on mains power, and in the car plugged into the ciggy socket to keep the battery constantly charged and power it when the car is off. I think in the car I will mainly use this as a freezer for frozen groceries, so I don't have to rush back home. And some ice creams/icy poles for when out and about would be nice too =D. I always have an esky in the car so can keep some ice packs frozen for that and enjoy the best of both worlds. Battery should make this very versatile and useful for my needs.

        • That's kind of where I wanna go with it as well… I wonder if the 15.6ah is big enough to keep it running overnight without killing battery.

      • Go DIY dual battery, hand-me-down car battery (or new). You'll get many days/nights out of it, and no dedicated tech/hardware required.

The price of the dedicated ones, for what they offer, is horrible.

  • had some issues with placing order (obv nowhere nr me had stock), and even the shipping option didnt work for several attempts … but finally got it ordered for delivery ($12) .. decent, thanks OP!

  • +3

I don’t need this but just spent $311 to have one delivered 🤦‍♂️

  • Thanks OP got one!

    • nice find .. no wheels on the 115L model, if that's a big deal for anyone

    • +1

For people with these types of fridges, worth the extra $50 to size up to the 115L or is that overkill?

      • +1

If you are going remote for 1 month with no access to shops .. or if you are doing a party for 20+ people .. then 95L to 115L will be suitable.

  • How long do these batteries last in these battery units? Love the idea but 75L is probably too big for what I'm after

    • +4

The max battery is 15ah. I think the battery is only really suitable for a picnic type situation. Would probably give you up to 8 hours depending on the ambient temperature and assuming that the fridge was cooled from another source prior to switching to the portable battery.

    • How long do these batteries last in these battery units?

~8 hours on the biggest battery based on this, assuming everything is cold when you start etc. Clearly YMMV

      • +2

Pretty happy with my own guesstimate!

  • anybody know if there is an off the shelf adapter to get this to work with makita 18v batteries?

noted i did find this, but it only seems to be compatible with the 25l fridge

    • An adaptor for the batteries would be great given the battery itself is a (cough) rip off. You might need to rig something yourself but noting these are 12v you would need a step down.

    • ebike battery!

my ebike battery is a big bo @ 20Ah but I dont know the voltage of this fridge.
      The bike battery is 48V

    • Power tool batteries would only keep it cool (IE: precool everything first at home 240v) for a few hours max. May as well just use an esky.

  • +2

Managed to order it from a NT store to deliver to Melbourne
    $12 shipping seems ok

  • +1

Ordered one from Hornsby will pick it up this afternoon thanks.

  • Thanks just ordered one for delivery, but then ended up finding one nearby, so I've done a click and collect as well.

  • +1

Everyone get instore and ask to order in, they had over 100 in the warehouse

  • Thank you OP, just ordered one. Been looking for a car fridge for a while now. This seems like a great deal!

  • Thanks OP, Ordered….Been searching for a while!!!!

  • +1

Has anyone used the alpicool batteries from aliexpress (15.6Ah ~$160) on these Brass Monkey fridges?

    • They look identical. Might be worth a try. I got a GH2053 on eBay last night for $216 and will get $45 cashback + $10 bonus on top so works out similar. Unfortunately it was the last one in stock or I would have posted the deal.

  • ordered, thanks op! Hope if fits in the car

  • +1

Anyone know what compressor is in these?

  • I have a similar BM fridge to this one, is 75 litre but doesn't have wheels. I've been away on a 15 week tour of the north of WA. Fridge did not miss a beat, and it was hot so fridge was working hard!

    • What sort of setup did you have? I'm new to all this.

  • Would this be fine as a primary fridge at home? I live alone and don't have much to store.

    • That’s more of a lower back issue than capacity issue. These are not great as primary units because you have to bend down. If you put it on top a counter, it then becomes a bit of a fishing experience every time you need stuff.

    • Probably fine. Depends on your living/cooking style.
I'm doing a reno on an old place at the moment. Sometimes stay a few nights. Room for a couple of beers, some microwave meals, 2L milk, cheese, yoghurt etc. and that fridge is an OLD one probably only 20L usable.

  • Can someone find a 15ah battery in the cheap

    • Sjbartley comment above found these on Aliexpress, not confirmed to work yet but looks promising https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006133579719.html?spm=a2…

Also maybe these external ones https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006153607308.html?spm=a2…

      • I also found another battery on Ali, $75usd + $12usd postage. There's a review by an aussie who confirmed it works on brass monkey fridge

        • Hey Muzzy, could you pm the link to the one you found?

        • Hi mate, could you send me the link to this as well?

    • +1

Just get a portable power station.

      • Bluetti is the way to go .. maybe the EB3A or AC60

        • If you don't need that much output, you might try Matson MAPP300.
          currently $239.2 from SCA.

          • @Richardc: How long will that keep the 50L brass monkey fridge going?

            • @Daddy Chill: From description, the average power consumption for the 52L is 45W, and the MAPP300 has a 280Wh battery, so last about 6 hours.

              • @Richardc: Compressor is not running all the time also its a bad idea to fully deplete the power station.

                • @King Tightarse: 45W is the average power consumption from the 52L model's description, otherwise I would have no number to calculate the runtime.

                  • @Richardc: Yes. Fair enough if 90 watt compressor running very roughly 50% of the time
Hey - what is your impression of the Matson? Did you buy one?

                    • @King Tightarse: I do get one from last SCA sitewide sale, I have no idea with the brand , but I found its distribute by tridon, who also distribute lots of automotive products. So likely a rebranding product.

                      • @Richardc: Yes, I had a bit of a look and it appears in quite a few liveries here and in the US but I think this is the manufacturer:
                        https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/China-Factory-300W-Li…
Are you generally happy with it? Any issues or negatives you have found with it?

                        • +1

@King Tightarse: So far so good, but I didn't use much, I bought it just for keeping my internet during power outage as my UPS only last about an hour. And it can use on for things than the fridge battery, also it's larger in Kw.

          • @Richardc: Only because it's clearance, iirc.
So get it while it lasts.

  • +1
  • i cant purchase this with delivery option. is this out of stock?

    • didn't work when i tried with my mastercard so i tried with afterpay and it worked!

      • Have you got it delivered? I just got an email saying that it's out of stock, and they are offering the 95L for the same price :-( seems too big

        • just got the email too. out of stock.

  • Looks like it's $349 now?

    The 50l is $249 (https://www.roadtechmarine.com.au/50l-brass-monkey-single-or…)

  • I have picked up mine. It is HUGE! Need to buy a new car to fit my new portable fridge…

    • +2

Lol. Yeah.. that’s why I went for the 15L. I have a 75L in the garage running full time and it’s bloody huge.

15L is perfect for my little hatchback.

      • 15L for the Tesla
        40L for the LandCruiser

  • "WEBSITE DOWN FOR IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE" Ozbargained.

  • OOS

  • Ripper Bargain! Thanks Op just picked one up!! Websites running a bit better now!

  • Website back up and able to order.

  • +1

    Picked 1 up!
Are their batteries ever on sale?

    • +1

Have been 1/2 price once that I know about

      • cheers. maybe i should set an alert on ozbargain for it :-)

      • When was that? Never saw it. Such a rip off RRP I am surprised they are not doing any discounts for Black Friday anywhere, especially with so many people buying these fridges on sale.

The Aliexpress ones look identical for $100 less.

        • I bought one almost exactly 12 months ago. Must have been Black Friday sale from last year - they were the V2 model battery.
Up to V3 now but they all work the same

          • +1

@King Tightarse: Hi King, how is that battery going up until today?
With that battery, can u just leave it inside the fridge and plug the fridge in AC (my car has an AC outlet for up to 100w) and forget about it? Would the battery kick in automatically right after we turn the car off and it's just being charged when the car is ON?

            • +1

              @Kemist: Yes battery is good.
The battery has its own off/on switch on it so you can control it with that.
It charges when inserted and the fridge is receiving power and as soon as power is removed it flips over to battery.
I would definitely get the largest one -15Ah which can do up to 8 hours when new but will last longer if not fully discharged. Better to leave 25% in the battery for overall longevity so realistically 6 hours of use.

  • Thanks for sharing! I went for the 115lt, no wheels but considerable size difference 75lt vs 115lt. Amazing deal for only $50 more!! Doubles my old 60lt kings fridge! Now to turn that into a beer fridge for the alfresco

  • +1

Order through their eBay store and use one of the $20 off codes. $8 shipping. Ordered for $287, thanks OP

    • Is $20 promo code a generic one or one off use one?

  • Manual says it needs 200mm clearance at the back and 100mm clearance all round. At the camp site that's fine, but if it's packed into the car with everything else, it's going to be a snug fit. Would this thing be safe if it has significantly less clearance while driving?

    • +1

I've never been too precious about these specs .. but take 5 mins of care not to squish a plastic bag against the grille .. then all good.

  • $299 now too late on my decision

  • +1

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256301819162

$277 delivered with ebayplus code BFSNS

  • Anyone actually got theirs yet? Jaycar slow to dispatch anything right now 👏

    • +1

I was just thinking this is the only BF purchase that hasn’t been shipped yet :(

    • +1

Nothing for me either, better make it before Xmas! Haha

      • That was my thinking too!

    • +1

      I ordered one last friday.

I enquired today why i hadnt received any confirmation email. They told me they stuffed up and oversold. They offered me the non wheeled version instead at same price. Done. Should get it next week.

      • i wondered what had happened to my order - good to know your story.
do you know the product number of the one your are receiving? as this one, GH2036, showing up as 'discontinued' now.. i wonder if they've upgraded you to the newer/current model? would be a nice outcome!

      • +1

Can you share a confirmation of this Strike if possible?

        • They contacted me and offered me the bigger version 95L without having to pay anything! Needless to say, I agreed to that lol. That's great customer service there I would say!

          • @Kemist: Yeah me too. Very happy great customer service. Honestly was expecting to get feck all or offered a 55L so that was a nice surprise.

        • Sorry for slow reply. Turned notifications off. GH2080 model.

        • +2

Delivered today. Ended up receiving the 80L GH 1646. Score!

      • -1

can you send some deets? jaycar rep approved this? they refuse to offer me this 2080, i asked them they want to offload me 3 other models, but nope, cant have the same one with no wheels.

as with ost others, 95L offered, sorry its too big for the application, and theyve now wasted my Black friday
