Very curious if these are worth it, anyone bought this from a previous deal?

    • +12

I bought it from the previous deal.

Highly recommend it. It's well built and the rubber tensions are good enough for most people.

Be prepared to get up early and be no further than 1-5 in line. My local only had around 8 boxes.

      • Amazing, thanks for the personal review! Helps a lot. Will see how I go.

      • +3

woulda thought the demand and demographic for a reformer machine is quite limited

        • +9

Reformer classss are so expensive that doing it at home is very attractive

Pilates is very popular right now

      • +2

Would you know how flat they pack away? I'm wondering if it will fit under my couch (160mm).

And secondly, even if you can pack it away, is it a PITA to do so?

        • Same question!

        • +5

Sitting next to the missus machine right now.

Looked pretty close, couldn't decide..so got the measuring tape out.

Collapsed down it is exactly 160mm !

Maybe prop your couch up with leg coasters and make it a bit easier.

It's not too hard to make flat. 4 pins, 2 hand tensioners and a handle to lay down..

But human nature is always ..eh, too hard. I'll just leave it under the couch.

So ours gets laid down on its side behind the couch, or a spare room when people visit etc. I'm currently sitting in the 'pilates studio' (ie. It's still sitting at the side of the lounge room).

To her credit, after a year she still uses it a few times a week and goes to a Pilates studio once a week using private health to cover it.

Construction is pretty good to be honest (and I'm fussy…for example, I consider anything Dyson pure rubbish). This is reasonably well thought through. About the right amount of heavy.

Lastly, took over a year to find a machine she was happy with (that wasn't a pro $3000 machine). So they must work half decent as well.

I think I saw Kogan selling an identical machine, but with metal springs instead of the rubber bands for the same price. I'd probably prefer metal springs if I had a choice. Maybe a possible pinch point for long hair, but the pro ones have springs.

As for getting it. We got it maybe 5 weeks after they came out. Got a feeling the store got stock late. Her sister called and said she saw them…next minute we were driving down to collect.

But none of this fight club stuff. Half a dozen sitting in the aisle.

Older lady next to us also got one and walked out to her car with it on an oversized trolley to put in a Mazda 3.
          .
She had zero chance of getting it in her car herself. Awkward / long 20kg ish box. Put her seats down and mongrelled it in. Had no issue whacking it in our Mitsi Outlander. So can be done with a small car, but you will need to be able to lift 20+kg at a 2m length… just take a bigger car/ trailer.
          .

      • Omg only 8 when 30 people + are lining up.

Y couldnt they have more stock

    • They aren't.

They use rubber bands not metal springs. Poorly made and won't last as long.

  • +9

My wife had me go to (profanity) WAR for one of these things!

I carried one out and to the car on my own, it's not so much the weight as much as the size and bulk of the things! Bring two people.

    • 32kg and 2.1m long. I doubt if Aldi has a platform trolley.

      • +2

Our local has platform trolleys out the back, and have been happy to fork pallets out if you are doing that much.

    • Free weight training :(

      • +2

Only free if it is returned for a refund.

    • -1

If you roll anything up in a rug it becomes so much easier to dispose of

  • Has anyone bought the posture trainer before? Does it help or crapola?

    https://www.aldi.com.au/special-buys/special-buys-wed-26-feb…

    • +1

I got something similar years ago, it works whilst wearing it and thats about it. Not much will improve your posture more than actually doing some consistent basic weight training (free weights or body weight).

      • +1

Damnit. Was hoping for the easy no effort way out.

    • Yeah, nah these only make your posture more reliant on the brace. Exercising the relevant muscles to make them stronger is the only way.

    • definitely a waste of money

  • What time do people line up for aldi special buys to be in with a good shot of getting things?

I have no issue going early on Saturday but I don't know if that means 7:00 or 8:00 for an 8:30 open.

    • +2

If you think it's going to be a popular item, 7:30 am is about right to be be one of the first 5 in the queue (they often have 8 of an item so this always a buffer).

Any time after that, to get what you want you may have to briskly walk/run past slower people who were ahead of you in the queue once the doors open.

Better to be early & have a good pace than be seen desperately trying to outrun someone's Nanna who was ahead of you in the queue. That's quite rightly frowned upon and people will help those they know were earlier in the queue but weaker somehow.

    Story time!
I got one from last time. Went an hour early. Was fourth in line.

When Aldi opened their doors, people ran in. I came to the aisle for the pilates machine and 3 people were fighter over the last of 3 machines on display—arguing over who came in first/who touched it first/etc. I walked away towards the Aldi staff and asked them if they still had any pilates machine in stock as all the display had gone and that people were fighting over the last one.

Aldi staff said yes. (There were 3 more in the back.) I followed him—-and I got my very own pilates machine. I did not have any trolley so I just pushed it towards the counter. And as I pushed, there was a couple shouting at me at the back repeatedly saying, “excuse me, I was first in line, that’s mine!” I kept walking.

I met another pilates machine buyer at the counter. We were 2 girls. We struck a bargain- I help you lift mine to my car and you help me lift mine to my car.

One of my favorite and memorable bargain buys from this website!

    • Boring. We want elbows out for bargains and stories of bruises and broken bones! haha

      Was the machine worth it?

    • +1

I enjoyed your story. Are you planning on making a sequel?

      • Maybe. Who knows. Oh, and we both (2 girls)could not initially fit the box in each of our cars. A gentleman helped us move the box around and squeeze it in. I found the box heavy and bulky.

    • It fit in your car? What kind of car do you have? I can’t seem to see box dimensions, or is it the same size as “assembled”?

      • Mazda 7 seater. The other girl had a 5 seater car(cant remember what type) and it fit with the back seats folded down.

  • Trying to understand the ice bath but don't see anything online.
What are the chances this can connect to a regular laudry/bath/sink tap, and I'm guessing this pump thing makes the water cold?

This seems to be bigger, better & Australian

      • And half the price.

      • +3

The photos are hilarious! They’ve used MS Paint to add the girl in, and she surrounded by rose petals! Not sure that’s the idea of an ice bath?

        • Photo 6/12 description:

          Inflatable Bath Tub Cover.
"The use of a tub cover keeps the water warm and reduces heat loss."

Meanwhile photo shows ice in the tub 😬

    • I was trying to figure out the pump thing too. What I concluded from the product description is that nothing makes the water cold. You need to buy bags of ice. All the pump does is circulate the water.

I was chatting to my physio who bought a second hand deep freezer that he retrofitted and made into a ice bath.

      • That’s quite a popular technique. When I was trying to buy a second hand deep freezer, most of them had been converted to ice baths…. Wasn’t sure I wanted my leftovers in someone’s used ice bath!!

  • Good price. Looks to be the same as the Fortis Reformer machine sold on Kogan (normally around $400 but some reason it's $799 now)

Wife is more than happy with the Fortis so $299 is a bargain if you manage to get one…

    • +4

The Fortis has been $299. Keep an eye on it. They might match again.

Fortis has steel springs, Aldi has rubber bands.

      • Good pickup on the bands!

      • Is one better than other - steel spring or rubber band?

        • +1

No idea sorry. Never used a steel spring one.
But logic would dictate the metal will last longer than the rubber.

No idea if you can replace the Aldi rubber with steel springs.

    • +2

Just noticed a price drop on the kogan Fortis Reformer. Now $359. Not the $299 listed above deal, but still a drop from the $799.

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/fortis-foldable-pilates-reforme…

      • +1

Thanks for this. Note for anyone following - there is a $52 shipping fee (in my case to metro Adelaide) to take into account as well that isn't waived for Kogan First members - so it's ~$411 altogether.

        • +1

Didn't add to my cart to check shipping. Very expensive shipping! $77 to Gold Coast. Bit of a shame.

  • +7

I don't know how people do ice baths, I struggle to take a lukewarm shower.

    • +3

I think it’s one of those things corporate finance bros love talking about, they jump in one after their 5am jujitsu session. It’s a very middle aged man finding meaning in life fad at the moment.

Have a few friends dying for one, their wives are rightly refusing to allow them to buy one knowing full well Joe Rogan will recommend something else to feel fit and young in a few weeks.

      • +1

I take regular ice baths, but a word of warning though. Extreme sudden cold can rapidly increase ones blood pressure.

      • +4

If jiu jitsu and ice baths provide people with some sense of physical/emotional/spiritual well-being then that seems like a good thing. A thing to be encouraged.

      • +5

Not being allowed to buy an ice bath by their wife is why they are looking for meaning in life.

      • +2

I did them in Japan when I was bike touring and stopped at onsen (usually 8-12c cold pools)

Don't really think it helped with muscle pain much, but goddamn do you feel like you can run through a wall for a few hours.

Plus it made me briefly immune to heat and sweating which was awesome.

      • +2

Did you really take an ice bath if you didn't post about it on social media?

    • +4

I find a cold shower worse than an ice bath. I think the fact you are submerged triggers a pretty rapid 'oh well I guess here we are then' response. When I'm having a shower it's like being constantly stabbed with a thousand cold knives with a brief moment of suggested air based relief.

  • +1

Do not underestimate how crazy people are at Aldi, I had to walk away because it was insanity. Also don't bother lining up, I was second and people just rush in.

    • +2

The key is to swing a spiked mace around your vicinity.

      • Comes as part of next week’s medieval pack, $29.99

  • The Pro reformers are $4-5k

  • Kmart has a "pilate reformer" for $289 online exclusive.
Does anyone know which one is better?

    • nevermind, guess someone noticed and posted it

  • +3

My story time with the reformer.
My partner decided to work when I told him I wanted to go early and get one - so I had to lug my 3 year old and 5 month old with me. We lined up maybe 20 mins early, counting there were maybe 5 Infront of me for it.
The doors opened and everyone ran one way. I decided to go up the fresh aisle and cut across (mind you I was running at this point with my 3yo was loving it)
With some miracle there was nothing on my aisle end so I could jump across and grab one from the bottom while everyone was fighting for the top ones on the other side.
I had a bit of a dilemma though as I was by myself with the two kids…. I managed to get it on the end of my pram, walking backwards 😂 it was a trek to get back to my car as the escalators were out of order so I had to walk down half of the shopping centre backwards with the pram where I couldn't see Infront of me. The thing was so heavy that I couldn't get it over the bump in my car and a nice man eventually came and helped me and everything was hunky dory!!

So moral of the story, go with two people and line up early and get ready to run haha

  • Any Yoga machines?

    • Any yoghurt machines?

      • Any Yolo machines?

  • Anyone prepared for the line up as someone mentioned above? I don't think I have a permanent space for it unless it's foldable easily.

  • Got there early and no reformer machines to be had…

    • As in none in shop or people got them in front of you

      • None in the shop

Here's my story from this morning. Will preface this by saying I've never queued up for anything at Aldi but my wife wanted one so we decided to give it a shot. I figured we were no chance to get one and our Aldi is fairly pov so doubted they would even have any. I was more curious to see if the stories are true with people going crazy with fights over this stuff 😂

We got to Aldi 5 minutes before opening time and there were probably 15-20 people in front of us in a queue. I saw a couple of people at the front of the queue run as the doors opened but everyone else just strolled in. As we got to the machines there was already a small group of people around them and there were only 3 machines. No argy bargy, everyone was civilised, we missed out and funnily enough the father and son directly in front of us in the queue outside got one so we missed out by literally one. My wife then asked one of the workers if they had more out the back but the worker said no, so we figured it wasn't meant to be and went on our way looking at other special buys and grabbing our other regular Aldi groceries.

As we got to the freezer section about 10-15 minutes later, to our shock and surprise I noticed 2 more machines on a palette just about to be wheeled out of the back room. My wife asked the worker in the storeroom if they were for sale and if we could grab one. The worker checked and said sure. We then proceeded to take one and head to the counter to pay for our stuff. We happened to walk past the first worker we asked if they had more out the back and she said sorry I didn't know we had more, we all laughed and had a chuckle.

As we were walking to the car park with me carrying the huge machine in a bright orange box we walked past a couple. The wife of the couple saw it, turned to her husband and said "oh that's the one I wanted to get!" 😂

Not sure exactly what other people were queuing up for but I saw quite a few people walking out with a lawn mower.

    TLDR
Went with low expectations on getting one and hoping more to get a funny story. Didn't get one in the original batch of 3 in the special buys section. 10 minutes later we luckily got one after walking past the back room with 2 more just about to be wheeled out.

  • +1

I accidentally bought one, I was planning to line up and grab one but changed my mind, but I was going to be dropping by Aldi early morning in any case. At about 8:35 people are wheeling them out I exchanged pleasantries with new owner jokingly asked if there was a fight they said yup, nearly. Ask shop staff if there are any out back they say no but the last one was being wheeled onto the shop floor, I say cool maybe next time and go looking for the item I came for. Wander up the aisle, cant see any big orange boxes, turn the aisle and go down the other side looking for a drill bit, don't find one but from the other side of the aisle it looks like a massive orange box has been hidden from view, yes the worker has kind of hidden the last one so I snag it.

TL;DR Arrived late found random hidden box, I now have a Pilates machine. For the record Halls Head, WA says that they had 28(?) So thats were they all went.

  • Was planning to line up at Aldi but then saw the Kmart deal, snagged a Kmart one so didn’t bother going to Aldi.

Wife went to Aldi at 9am to do normal shopping and text me to say there were 5 machines still on the shelf. She said she would prefer the Aldi one (based on feedback of people who have them) so I raced down (as she had the baby) and there were still 5 machine there when I got there around 9:30am.

Will return the Kmart one, weird how some stores have lines and obviously our store had no one interested/or knew about them.

  • You could go into my local Aldi at 9am this morning and still grab one of three on the pallet. Then I went to Katoomba Aldi and they still had 5 left at 1pm.

  • What is the difference feedback wise? I saw the Kmart one but they want $280 to ship it to WA

  • +1

Not sure how I missed the deal here - was eagerly looking forward to it to pick up for my wife

Our original plan was to drop my wife off at one Aldi and I go hit another, but when time to wake up she was too tired so all fell on me.

Went to Aldi Burwood because I knew 2 more stores were nearby if I failed there.

Got there about 15min before opening and was just one of two in line at the time (went up to about 6 by opening time)

No machines out the front but from asking staff they had 6 at the back - lady and I took one each.

Somehow we were parked next to each other and she was struggling to get it in her car so I helped her (was a rav4 from memory).

I had my own issues trying to fit it into my Toyota 86 haha - ended up putting the seats down, removing my spare tyre, and removing the boot mat to fit it all in. I could handle the weight of it though, the issue was the bulk of the box.

I went to kmart to buy a few things then back to Aldi for a couple of groceries - the 4 remaining machines were still at the back. I do wonder if some others that came later just assumed all were sold out coz they weren't in the usual special buys section of the store.
Got it home and set it up same day - lots of steps to set up but didn't take too long. Doesn't need to be folded away too thankfully.
