Spotify Premium: 18 Months Individual, 243 days Duo or 206 Days (~7 Months) Family ~A$47.81 @ Spotify Egypt (VPN Required)

3110

This deal is similar to my post last year, but results in a cheaper outcome: circa A$2.66 per month for Individual or A$1.18/month per person if you have a full Family group of six people.

What you will need before starting

  1. VPN with Egypt Server: ExpressVPN, CyberGhost or Surfshark (or another if I am not aware). CyberGhost has a 7-day free trial.
  2. New or lapsed existing Spotify account (can be Australian)

Step 1: Cancel your existing premium subscription to Spotify and wait for the current billing period to end, or create a free account if you don't have one

Edit for step 2 below: users have reported that they have only been able to redeem one gift card (some have said the 12 month has worked but not the 6 month, or vice versa. Note: I have removed specific links from this step because users have reported issues redeeming these gift cards.

Solutions found by other users:
1. Users have reported that the below method works for Spotify India instead
2. If you have already purchased a code which is not working, contact live chat
3. Purchase 3 x 6 month codes instead

Step 2: Purchase 1 x 12 Month Egypt Spotify Premium Gift Card] and 1 x from G2A (alternatively, 3 x 6 months) or another site with Egyptian Spotify gift card. Note: Price quoted in title is based on current total price of the two gift cards linked here, however the price may vary depending on where you purchase it.

Step 3: Turn on your VPN and set location to Egypt. Note: Many VPN providers do not have an Egyptian server.

Step 4: While VPN is activated, go to your 'account' here and click 'Edit Profile', an option to set your country to 'Egypt' should appear (this option is greyed out if you have still have an active premium subscription). If it does not appear, check your VPN is activated correctly. Save your changes. This will now let you redeem Egyptian gift cards.

Step 5: Click Redeem and paste your gift card codes that you previously purchased in Step 2. You will see that the confirmation message will mention '12 Months Premium' and '6 Months Premium' being redeemed. Once you have redeemed both codes, here you will see EGP 499 and EGP 300 respectively in your order history. If you attempt to redeem more than 18 months, you will get an error stating that you cannot redeem more than 18 months of premium in advance.

Note: Stop here if you wish to keep your account as an Individual account. If you wish to convert your 18 Months Premium to 243 days of Duo or 206 days of Family, continue to Step 6. If you stop here your account will remain an "Egyptian" account. Please note, if you do not continue to step 9, this will mean video podcasts will not work on your account.

Step 6: Go to "Account Overview" and click on "Your Plan". Now click "Subscribe" at the bottom. You will now see "Your Plan" with EGP49.99 / month and the next billing date will be 18 months from now. Beneath the summary, you'll see a payment gateway show up with some Egyptian payment options. Look beneath them and you will see "Change country" in the footer. Click on it and select Australia. You will now see $12.99 per month and the next billing date has been reduced to ~12 months from now. This is due to some sort of conversion rate between countries. Do not proceed yet.

Step 7: At the top, click "Change Plan". On the next page, click on Premium Duo or Premium Family. Confirm that the new billing date is approximately 243 days from now (for duo) or 7 months (206 days) for Family.

Step 8: Choose PayPal as the payment method and follow the prompts to finalise. Your PayPal won't be charged until the date stated in the summary.

Step 9: After confirming, your account will be Australian, so choose your normal Australian address for the Premium Duo/Family as you normally would, and tell your "family" members to enter the same address.

    • Some other comments stated having issues with G2A. Did you make the payment with or without VPN enabled? Try without VPN when making the payment for gift card and let me know how you go.

      • I tried both with VPN (Egypt) and Australia. Not successful.

I'll try with tor browser tonight

        • Somehow Chrome and Chrome incognito mode don't work for me.

This is what worked for me:

          1. I used Brave's Private Window. I couldn't even get into G2A website with Brave's Private Window with Tor browser
          2. Bought the spotify giftcards with ING debit card while on Australian IP address
          3. Turned on CyberGhost VPN and changed IP to Egypt.
          4. Changed my country of residence from Turkey to Egypt. My spotify account was already in Spotify Free mode.
          5. Redeemed giftcards. Voila!

i left my account as Egyptian.

  • Does any know what's the lapse period after payment failure to lose Premium access? My payment using OlduBil failed early this month but it says I am still in premium so I can't sign up using this approach yet

    • I think you'd have to manually cancel to make it happen right away, but if I were you I'd just hang onto it while you still have it!

  • So after it Duo laps over, could we do this process again?

    • Yes

      • Do you think, if you just change the account back to Egypt and VPN back, you can just top it up with a Voucher?

  • Can't see a change plan option after I change the country back, did anyone get this recently?

    • Ignore me it was in arabic on the top left

  • +1

    Thanks OP, worked perfectly!

    Fantastic instructions. Thank you!

  • What happens if you go in and change your profile back to Australia after you’ve added 18 months of premium individual?

Does it actually cancel your remaining months if premium redeemed via Egypt? 🤔

    • +1

I think it converts the timeframe to a shorter amount. If you intend to stay on individual I’d just leave it, otherwise you risk reducing the days for no reason.

  • +1

    Thank you for this OP.

When I clicked subscribe and changed country, there was no option up the top for me to change plan to family from premium individual? what am I doing wrong?

EDIT - got it, it's the arabic font up the top left corner. and I only have 209 days on Family for some reasons, possibly due to exchange rate or did Spotify just increase the price again?

    • I thought it was supposed to be ~206 days for Family, per the title so did you end up with more days?

With regards to Arabic font, I always edit the url to say /eg-en/, the en part making it English - it is much better than translating the page!

      • Sorry OP, I read 243 days and thought that was for Family, my bad. 209 instead of 206 days, possibly due to fluctuation in exchange rate.

    • I'm struggling to still find the "change plan' to family.
Do I turn off the VPN

      • I tried this a few times so can confirm that the option was there with and without VPN turned on. Like OP suggested, best to change the url to show English which is much easier.

amazing, canceled and remade family account worked a treat. thanks for the detailed steps, OP.
Then used my remaining Oldubil money for netflix vouchers

  • I'm getting "The code you've entered is invalid for your country" Profile is set to Turkey and have purchased the Turkish gift cards via the link. Any Ideas?

    Egypt not Turkey. got it

    • Did you buy Egyptian gift cards or Turkish? Remember with Egypt you need to use a specific VPN that has Egypt for it to work.

      • I bought Egyptian. Just downloaded EGYPT VPN app from the play store for free and it all worked.

        • mind sharing which free app has egypt please?

  • Anyone having problem getting the audiobooks to work. I keep getting error message 'something went wrong search for something else?'

Worked a charm OP. Thanks a lot.

I got a month of CyberGhost for around $18 AUD. Had to message the help centre, give reason for cancellation and attach an invoice to be able to get the refund.
Now just waiting for the refund to be actioned.

  • has the price of the 12 month egypt gc come down? Showing $19 for me. then 6 month GC cost $11.95. So the total for 18 months is $30?

    • I think you’re viewing in USD

Thanks OP! Another Oldubil refugee rescued.

BTW I thought you might want to link to CyberGhost free from the description?

is there any disadvantage staying as a solo in 'Egypt' apart from the recommendations?
You can change the app language to english and still browse for random playlists/artists etc as normal?

(current youtube/google music user and tempted to try the alternative, havent used spotify in many years)

    • +1

No issue for me, don't get any Egyptian recommendations on my Spotify.

Worked wihtout a problem using CyberGhost (iOS, 7 days trial) and G2A.
Cyberghost on mac is unreliable so I suggest using the phone app instead.

  • What happens after 7 months family membership expiry? Do you have to cancel, follow the process and re-invite the family again?

    • Yes - minor inconvenience for the price saving. Make sure to cancel before it expires so you don’t get billed in AUD $20.99

  • +3

Legend. Followed the same steps but purchased from India. Saved a few more bucks in conversion (A$1.8/month for the individual plan). GC number got delivered by email within 30 minutes: https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0C853FHX3

    • How/where did you buy the India gift cards if you don't mind me asking? I am getting a family subscription and wonder how much lower it would be compared to this one

      • +4

The GC was purchased from the Amazon seller linked in my original comment. The prices correspond to the plans available for an Individual Premium subscription.

You can use your existing Amazon AU site credentials in Amazon.in to log in (like any other global store) and complete the transaction.

You must add an Indian address to your Amazon account otherwise you can't complete the payment. Generate one from sites like this or simply Google fake address generator, there's a whole bunch of them. Remember the Indian state you selected/entered in the address.

On the final payment page, select card payment and pay using any Credit/Debit card that allows international payment. I used temporary card details generated by my Zip Plus account as it is more secure (one-time use card details) and Zip Plus doesn't charge you international transaction fees. During the payment step, it'll ask you which state you want to associate the purchase with - select the same state as you entered your address (this probably doesn't matter but I didn't take any chances). 😉

Wait 20 mins to receive the code in your email, then log in to Spotify, change region to India, redeem your GC here, enter the same state as that of the Amazon address, purchase Premium plan, select Family.

The Family pricing from Spotify India says:

        Prepay
One-time payment. Top up when you want. Does not auto-renew.
        * 12 Months - One-time payment of ₹2,149
        * 6 months - One-time payment of ₹1,075
        * 3 months - One-time payment of ₹595
        * 1 month - One-time payment of ₹199

Now considering the highest value from the Individual plan, that is, 12 months Premium @ 1189 rupees GC value you can only redeem the 6 months subscription for the Family plan as per the above pricing list.

At the current exchange rates, you end up paying AU $3.61/month for the family plan (considering you purchased the 1189 rupees GC and used it against the 6 months family plan). This is equivalent to 60 cents per user per month for 6 users in the family plan.

        Hope that helps.

        • Actually a legend. I managed to also figure out how to check out with both 12 and 6 months by opening the browsed in incognito mode.
Did everything and got it up and running! Appreciate the help and the time put into the detailed explanation you did, thanks man.

          • @PuppetMaster000: i got the following error

"The code you've entered is invalid for your country" wtf?

          • @PuppetMaster000: ok so when i used this method, it applied the whole amount to one account for the whole year,
when i went to change the plan to family premium it then asked for a payment
i used my australian MC details and then it said that the country and payment details are in different countries…HELP!!

            • @muney: Did you go to the country select and change it to Australia? Try turning the VPN off once you apply the code and do it that way. I am not sure what else you can do other than that, I had no issues after the code was applied.

              • @PuppetMaster000: So I got it to work BUT the GC has only been applied to the single account (12 months) there’s no way I can see of applying it to the family account?
It even says in the terms and conditions of the GC that the credit cannot abs applied to the family account
                How did u do it?

                • @muney: Sorry I am confused by what you mean the GC only applied to the single account. The gift card SHOULD only apply to one account, you can't put it on multiple account. You only pay from that one account, the family members don't have to pay anything or put any GC on their accounts.

Start from step 6 above from the post. Everything is the same except of course if you paid through India, it will be in their currency, but no actual difference. So start from going to your "Account Overview", click on "Your Plan", then "Subscribe" at the bottom and so on. If you do all the steps from 6 to 9, you should be good.

All you are doing if you applied the gift card and activated your subscription is changing the plan from individual to family.

                  • @PuppetMaster000: I will try as you have mentioned ..do I need the Indian vpn turned on when doing this ?

                    • @muney: When you start you do. I don't think you do if you are at step 6. Urban VPN is free and has India if you need it.

                  • @PuppetMaster000: so ive done exactly has youve written and yes it works BUT by changing it to the premium family plan, using the existing gift card, it changes from a full year (being a single premium account) to only just over 3 months under the premium family account (paying for it in australian currency)..basically if i act on this method as its written from steps 6-9, my plan will only last untill 11 march 2024..
the only way you can get the 6 months (valid untill june 24) as youve written is if you pay for it in indian currency (which we cant, unless you have a way around this)

                    • +2

@muney: That is what the whole post and deal is about… It literally states in the title "18 Months Individual, 243 days Duo or 206 Days (~7 Months) Family".
You can buy a 12 and 6 month gift cards from Amazon India with an Australian card, you just need to put in a random Indian address as delivery and it will arrive in your mail.
If you buy both and add the 18 months total, you can either leave it and only have the individual plan, which will last you 18 months OR change it to family plan, in which case the duration will drop to 7 months.
You only purchased and added 12 months to your account it would seem but I don't understand what you mean by "you can only get the 6 months if you pay in indian currency". You can pay in Egyptian currency if you go with the method written in the instructions. If you used Amazon India as recommended, just buy another 6 months and add that too.
If it says the card is unavailable on Amazon India because you already purchased 1 before, try add it to cart in incognito window and then log in when it asks you on checkout. Or simply make another account. If your issue is paying in indian currency, that doesn't matter. Your bank should be able to just convert the indian currency to AUD.
I added the 12 months first normally to my cart then I added the 6 through incognito window, which is how I managed to checkout with both gift cards and got 18 months. I paid in indian currency and it was about 35 AUD. My family plan expires in June 2024 because that is how the conversion works if you get the full 18 months of gift cards.

You gotta at least read the all of the instructions from the post man, everything should be covered.

                      • @PuppetMaster000: ok so theres been a miscommunication now i can see..
so i followed your method and bought 1 x GC from amazon india..
this showed up under my account as a premium account valid for 12 months.
i didnt proceed to buy another 6 month GC from amazon india as your instructions said to use just the 1 (12 months)
now, after doing steps 6-9 the premium family account then reduces to approx 4 months NOT 6
you initially didnt say to buy another 6 month GC from amazon india (making it 18 months total)

                        • @muney: I followed the guide from the post, the only difference is place you get it from. 18 months is still max, regardless of where you buy it from. I just purchased it from India instead of Egypt because it was even cheaper, but you still need both 12 month AND a 6 month card. I did say in my first response "I managed to also figure out how to check out with both 12 and 6 months by opening the browsed in incognito mode." haha. Glad you figured it out though, enjoy your new plan! :)

                          • @PuppetMaster000: seeing ive only got the initial 12 month gift card and setup the family accounts all well and good.
ive now purchased an additional 6 month gift card, which leads me to my next problem..how do i now add this 6 months on??

                            • @muney: I will be honest, I have no idea if you can. The "good news" is that from what I recall, gift cards last you a year so when your plan expires in a few months, buy another 12 month card and use the 6 month you have then using the same method from scratch.

        • Do you still need a vpn with this method?

        • I did not read the instructions properly.

    • Did you change it back to Australia after redeeming? Is there any reason to do that?

Can you just get the family members to join as long as they vpn to india first?

Seems like it would make it easier to maintain so you dont need to cancel and do the whole process every 6 months. Just log back in with another india voucher every so often.

      • Ok seems i found the answer to that myself.

Cant change to a family plan without entering a payment option. Cant do that with it set to India.

Setting up 4 accounts for the family i think it may just be easier to pay for 4 x12 months single accounts and leave them in India so its easier to top up later.

  • What if i am up to step 7 but cant see a change plan button?

    • ive got the same issue

    • Is your page in English or the translated version from Egyptian? If the latter, change the URL to be “/eg-en/“. If not, I’m not sure as admittedly I don’t have the screenshots on me

      • Tried both and it wasn't there - however following the instructions from @kellerman worked!

    • Having the same issue. No change plan option is shown. Page is in English with /eg-en/ in the URL.

      • +5

I worked out another path to get this to work.

Go back out to your account overview page and then go into "manage your plan". Click on "Learn more about your plan", then select "Shop all premium plans", then select "get started" under the Family plan. Then open the "Monthly Subscription" option. Select "PayPal". And then you are back on that page where you can change country to Australia and then the next billing date is shown 207 days out.

        Then select to complete purchase.

        • +1

thanks man that worked for me.

        • Thanks! worked for me too :)

        • Thank you! This is the only thing that worked for me - I couldn't get the Change Plan option to display in any language, using VPN or not, using the original instructions.

  • do you have to do step 6? cant you just skip to step 7 and leave it as egypt. then in future add more gift cards? or does that prevent it being able to change it to a family plan.

Thanks OP, worked just fine on pc after some futzing about - used Cyberghost which has 1 day full access program. Beauty mate!

  • Did this and now have an Australian account again…. but I'm still receiving notification e-mails in Turkish. Anybody know of a way of fixing this? (other than contacting Spotify support, which I'm reluctant to do as it may open a can of worms)

  • Can't redeem my codes from both G2A vouchers :(

"Something went wrong" when entering on Spotify :(

After trying to redeem the codes about 20 times each they worked, had various errors while moving through the steps but got there in the end

Suspect the VPN was playing up

  • +1

    Surfshark work bro. Thanks!

  • +1

Thanks OP, after having issues with the Turkish renewal this worked!

Trial with cyberghost, G2A keys worked whole process took about 10 mins.

  • -1

so before i jumped in and did this i thought i would calculate how much per month this would cost me.

    1) both GC from G2A works out to be $45.14 AUD
    2) by following all the above especially steps 6-9 it becomes 206 days or 6.8 months for a premium family account
    3) now divide $45.14 by 6.8 months and you get $6.64 per month which is a bit more (almost double) then what we were using under the turkish plan..any other alternatives?

    • That’s $6.64 per month for 6 users, so it’s $1.10 per month per user. It’s pretty on par with the turkey method from memory. It’s also the best one that currently still works if I’m not mistaken

      • Family plan under Turkey method was ~65 TL, which is ~3.37. That's half the price of Egypt, but now that Oldubil is no longer accepted, the only other method I know is some success with other anonymous credit cards like FUPs or ininal (passport required). Additionally, purchasing cheaper Spotify gift cards from India or Pakistan can bring it down to ~$3-5/month.

  • +1

Thanks OP! This has worked for family premium.

  • +1

Awesome! Thanks OP, worked great. Did it using CyberGhost free 24 hour trial.
Only thing was that G2A took about 11 hours to deliver my gift cards (don't know if this is usually the case?)
But once delivered, everything else went smoothly. Great clear instructions! Thank you!

    • That’s odd, for me it was instant - I think it might vary depending on the seller

  • If anyone has issues with family members validating their address (i.e. error: You need to live at the same address), the fix is to tell them to go to https://www.spotify.com/eg-en/account/profile/ and change their country to Australia

    • Does that mean doing this automatically changes each family member's country to Egypt and then they have to change it back to Australia?
Or are you referring to those that weren't already Australia.

      • +1

Only those who weren't previously in Australia (if you were based in Turkey previously, you'll need to change it).

  • Lovely guide - worked perfectly. I used pureVPN and it was seamless. Perfect timing as well - oldubill stopped working for me. If anyone has ideas on how to get money out of Oldubill, would love to hear them

    • +1

Buy turkish netflix cards seems to be the only answer. 200tl at a time.

annoyingly I'm left with 190 tl after buying 2 but its better than nothing.

  • +1

Works well, 18 months of spotify for ~$40, it took about 15 minutes. used cyberghost free trial on the PC
    https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_US/vpn-free-trial

buy the codes on your phone if you're having issues with payment not going through

  • The india amazon method worked great.

12 months is only ~$21. Urban VPN works to redeem it, really easy process.

The only question i have now: After changing to 6 months family account can you then redeem another 12 month regular card and have it top up the family account another 6 months?

  • Anyone else having issues buying the Amazon India gift cards? I can make payment but the order keeps getting cancelled due to the transaction being declined. I've tried 3 different cards with different banks and it gets declined even with authorisation codes.
