      You buy car insurance? /s

    • +1

Who drives with an insurance? You rich to buy an insurance? Get out of ozbargain!!!

  • +6

IMO, not worth it. The ie600 is the real flagship, marketing wank aside, in this series. Better off looking elsewhere at this budget.

    • +1

Agreed but I have to say the IE200 is the real hidden gem. But the build is not great though (bass port leak but can be managed).

    • I got the se215 that are supposed to be sound isolating but they were nowhere near good enough to block out a drumkit, ears were ringing for days. Going to try some aftermarket tips but I expected more out of the box for something that claims to be sound isolating

      • +3

Def try a different set of tips. I am a DJ and regularly play with very loud bands - e.g. I played between sets for The Angels just this weekend gone and I am usually about 2 metres away from the drums during their sets. I have 6 sets of various Chi-Fi IEM's and a set of SE215's and 535's and the Shures are by far the best for noise isolation. I use mine with Etymotic 2 flange tips: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08D2MVYKD/ref=ox_sc_sa…

        • I recelty a pair of S12 pros which I am guessing are what people call Chi Fi.

I mainly picked them up for DJing. Or at least to try.

How do you deal with the small cord? It's too short to be able to move around the booth. I was thinking about picking up a 1m long extention cable that maybe has a step up jack to plug into the larger headphone jack?

        • I ordered a set of Truthears last week, that I've yet to receive, but I'll keep the different tips in mind if I find the stock tips are a bit lacking.

      • +1

        se215 are no good.

        • For isolation I found them to be the best. Are they the best sounding? No - my KZ ZS 10 Pro's blow them away for sound quality but when isolation counts, I've found the Shure range and the Etymotic ER2XR have amazing isolation.

          • @nollidge: ER2XR Are better, but they hurt!

            • @congo: Change the 3 flange tips that come with them to the 2 flange tips as per my link above. The 2 flange tips don't go as deep into your ear canal and are much more comfortable.

              • @nollidge: Thanks! I have it in my shopping cart.
                Will wait for Black Friday.

      • I use the yellow foam tips with my SE846 (higher end version of the SE215, tips are compatible).
They're the most sound-isolating out of every IEM I've ever owned.

I think the real issue here is just how quickly value paradigms are changing in the IEM world.

We already have IEMs like the 7Hz Timeless and the Moondrop Blessing series that can go head to head with $1000 IEMs - how long will it take before we have something coming out of China that can run rings around $1000+ IEMs for a fraction of the price? I've demoed a few $1000-1500+ IEMs and while they've been incredible, given the fierce competition amongst Chi-Fi manufacturers, I feel like it's just a matter of time before that quality will be delivered at a significantly lower price point.

      • +1

IMO the variations already ran rings around the 99% of the western $1000+ IEMs when it launched. Then Chi-Fi $1000+ IEMS came out that are on another level.

        • Yeah, I’m rarely ever blown away by audio gear anymore, having demoed so much - but Chi-fi kilobuck IEMs managed to deliver that magic!

      • Yeah, I've been doing a reverse gear upgrade path thanks to this trend. Went from $500 multi-BAs 10 years ago, to $120 ER2XR, and now a pair of $25 Chi-fis (Chu II) that come pretty close to the ER2XR imo. I'm interested to try out some of the recent releases around the $200-300 pricepoint but don't also want to jinx myself back into the "high-end" :p

        • I've been incredibly happy with my 7Hz Timeless that I bought during an Aliexpress sale for ~$250, so much so that I rarely use my Focal Elears and Audeze LCD-2s anymore. Continuing with that trend, the Shuoer S12 apparently sounds near identical to the Timeless, except it costs half the price.

The other interesting development is the TWS space. With DSP on the cards, significant improvements are technically possible - especially with the money being poured into the tech these days. I'm really interested to see how the Sony PlayStation Pulse Elite wireless headphones and Pulse Explore TWS buds turn out, given that it has Audeze's planar magnetic drivers in them for a fraction of the price of Audeze's offerings. They look a big gamer-ey, but could pave the way for other consumer gear with Audeze drivers in them.

          • @poppingtags: I picked some S12 pros up last time they popped up here. I'm really happy with them.

Only complaint is brushed metal means they can scratch other metal surface like MacBook etc so need to be carefully. Plastic would have been better.

            • @HulkBroden: Yeah, I've found that the paint on my Timeless has started to chip away too. I wonder if metal housing is more durable than plastic in the long run + what effect it has on the sound sig.

        • I grabbed a pair of the blue Truthear Zero last week, paid like $65 delivered for them, which I'm very keen to see how they sound. I got a pair of Brainwavz pads a while back for my old M40x, but I just found they were a bit clunky to carry around, and other wireless buds never quite fit correctly, so hopefully having something wired that goes up and over my ear should keep things in place.

      • I used to dream about upgrading my IE80 earphones to the IE800/IE900, hoping they’d be similar to my HD 800. But since getting the AirPods Pro 2, I’ve found them so convenient that I can’t justify spending over 1k on a pair I won’t use much. Now, after reading this I’m considering trying out some Chi-Fi though.

        • +1

The IE80's were one of the top picks for the price when they came out, although the game has changed quite a bit since then. I think Airpods still have their place as an EDC TWS, just a lot more convenient than a wired IEM when out and about. I'd encourage you to go try a few out in store if you can, Addicted to Audio in Melbourne and Minidisc in Sydney are good options.

    • Yes, IE600 is pretty good.
      I have it myself.

      I have not tried the IE900 ,
but going by the tuning of the IE600,
      and for the IE900 price,
maybe try the ThieAudio Monarch IEMs ?

      PS:
IE600 on sale, with the coupon, for about AU$790 — here

  • can I buy just one to save even more?

    • Go halves? I want the earphone with the connector.

      • go halves completely and you got yourself a deal! one earphone and half connector. I'll take left

  • +2

    Huh, but why arethey expensive?

    • German gold

      • The word quality doesn't indicate whether it is good or not by itself. It could be these are better, but how much better than a more reasonably priced, but still well regarded, in ear earphone? I personally wouldn't spend that much on in ear earphones, if I really wanted decent sound quality, it would be over the ear phones.

        • -3

I didn't say that was the case, I was answering the dumbarse question.

          • +1

@mickeyjuiceman: You gave an answer, but not a good one. Using quality as a measurement here, yours was a low quality answer, Davesday gave a high quality answer.

      • No seriously, why?

    • +6

They reproduce music in a way that is not possible on a small IEM (sound stage, timbre, etc). To put in another way, you will normally need good headphones or a decent set of speakers (costing way more than this pair) to do the same level of detail. It is hard to judge when you haven’t hear/experience it. It’s one of those things that you need to hear for yourself rather than to read from another’s experience.

Having said that not everyone can appreciate all the differences between products due to subjectivity and the fact that everyone hears differently. Some are perfectly happy with what they have while others need high gear to satisfy what they want out of their music.

What I will say though is in recent times, small IEM makers have been able to create very good products for a fraction of the money and still qualify into the high end category. This temporary ‘price correction’ of Sennheiser makes them more competitive vs Chi-Fi. If I am not mistaken the IE900 was around the $2.4K mark last year? It’s expensive but wait there’s more. 64 Audio and other brands are even more expensive at close to $6K in the top end.

  • anyone have recommendations 10% of the price, preferably with a microphone and usb-c?

    • +5

Yup, the $10 Echo Buds Gen 2 if they ever come back in stock

      • That’s only 0.7% of the price! Bargain!

    • I was skeptical of iems compared to full size headphones, but I got a pair of these:
      https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/products/fiio-jh3-in-ear-head…
and they are very good, though I'm sure not in the same ballpark as $1000+. Can't answer for usb-c or mic, sorry.

    • qkz vk4 is great value, look it up

    • 10% of the price would be the Moondrop Starfield (about AU$ 150+ ),
and then get a 0.78mm cable with microphone and USB-C .

Alternatively, buy a decent USB-C DAC (with the Conexant CX31993 chip) for about AU$ 15+ ,
and then plug in your 3.5mm plug earphone into that.

    • No usb c but these are exceptionally good quality for the price: https://www.amazon.com.au/Linsoul-KZ-ZSN-Pro-Detachable/dp/B…

  • +1

    cheers OP bought 10

  • +1

Is the price justified for a pair of earphones?

    • -2

      absolutely (not)

    • +9

If you like audio and you're rich then yes

    • +18

Why be so judgemental.. some people choose to spend tens of thousands on watches, thousands on designer handbags or hundreds on some cotton with a guy's name emblazoned on it..

Ultimately some people will see value in it, others won't.. that's fine.. everyone has their own priorities and level of discretionary income.

      • +2

Most sensible comment so far, except for the first comment. ;)

      • -2

Watches, handbags…clothes, are not the same as something that stimulates your senses.

Sure, there is a 'feeling' you get , which is derived from society's perception of you
or what opportunities, flaunting a brand-name, opens up (eg. job openings? golf club memberships? etc.)

However, spending $$$ for a stimulation of your senses is something else,
eg. tasting something, listening to something, jumping out of plane (ie. skydiving), etc.

        A couple of years ago, I was just dipping my toes with a AU$ 50 Chi-Fi ,
and over these years, I've owned / tried many audio equipment,…
…that along the way, I've ended up spending big $$$ just for the sake of audio.
        ( Example:
I would contemplate trying these IE900 earphones,
however, having the IE600 prevents me, because they're already very good! )

Still, there's a point when it's just "diminishing returns",
ie. the money you spend does not always equate to the increments of 'joy' or 'pleasure'.

It's just up to the person and how much disposable income they have,
to pursue things and experiences that give them joy,
but I prefer joys that can be felt with my senses,
than something that comes from the imagined perception of others (and their perceptions of me).

        • +2

but I prefer joys that can be felt with my senses, than something that comes from the imagined perception of others (and their perceptions of me).

It’s entirely possible for people to be snobbish about audio equipment or to derive enjoyment from their own perception that they have high quality equipment, rather than merely from the actual improvement in audio quality.

On the other hand, some things may be pure status symbols but it’s also possible that people enjoy nice clothes for their higher quality. I have a few ralph lauren shirts which are an absolute pleasure to wear, due to the fit and the quality of the fabric. It’s a shame they’re so expensive or it’s all I would wear. If they came without the little horse logo I’d still wear them. I do not wear like wearing Kmart c**p because the material feels uncomfortable and the fit is bad.

    • 5 Hz - 48,000 Hz <<< YES!

      • +17

That really hz the wallet …..

    • This kind of price range is normal in the upper end of perceived quality.
Parts cost is dirt cheap, so you're paying for the brand name and design.

  • +2

I will use them for future Samsung trade-in - $1 earphones.

  • +1

How can these produce 5 Hz sound?

    • +7

You get a nice “doof” sound when you facepalm yourself for spending $1300+ on earphones

    • With great inefficiency.

  • -7

Never spend more than 30 bucks on earphones.

  • Still using my ie8 :-)

  • Nightjar singularity is a better bassy set

  • +1

How would these compare with the ones I got with my Motorola 🤔

  • +2

    "Flagship" surcharge.

  • Wow $1,359 in ear, unless there are gold inside

  • Thanks OP, bought 10 for the OzB giveaway

  • BTW where do they plug in ???

    • 👀……

      • along with the deal , some people can't understand the sarcasm

    • +1

Will actually need a good digital player e.g. the astell&kern ones, nobody plugs them directly into a phone.
Those typically cost more than an iPhone.

  • Better get that Samsung QLED TV than this for the same price

  • +1

This better give me an eargasm.

  • +1

Can't imagine paying $1400 to have your ear canal molested

  • Man how pissed off would you be when the connection gets loose.

  • +3

I am an ex owner of IE800, would seriously consider buying one if its price drops within 1000.
    (Owner of MX300,MX500,MX760,MX980, HD599,HD6XX,HD800 and IE800)

    • +2

Do you own anything else in life? 😂

    • You never owned / tried the IE600 ?
