Great iems with very good bass that can rival the best on the market such as Z1R, Subtonic Storm and 64A Tia Trio. Albeit average headstage and imaging. But if your main priority is dynamics and bass this is exactly what you should be looking for provided a high budget.

$3k for earphones, makes no sense. Anyone able to explain

    • +18

Same reason why anybody would spend more than the bare minimum on any hobby equipment - Photographers, Fountain pens, Mechanical Keyboards, Sneaker collectors etc.

        • +5

Audiophiles that even look at equipment of this price calibre are unlikely to resell their gear. Although I do have to agree that iems are a pretty disgusting thing to resell.

          • +1

@zjz93: If you have no issues with putting your face/eye up to the view finder of a camera that has been smudged with facial oils of countless people probably thousands of times before you, then I don't see how you would have a problem using second hand IEMs with a new tip put on.

            • @jaejae69: I don't. But I can see why many people do, which is why I included it in the comment.

          • @zjz93: I can go along with the idea that passionate hobbyists spend $$$ on stuff, but nearly every one I know is an active seller of stuff they replace - possibly not earbuds, but every bike, musical instrument, camera etc. people I know who spend thousands on gear sell the stuff they supersede - even at 50% discount selling, it means they can buy the new stuff.

            • @mskeggs: Yes, but I've noticed that with this hobby there isn't too much investment placed in the top of the line equipment. This results in most of the stuff at the top already being very good and once people find what they live they just tend to stop buying. I know many people that moved from cheap iems to hd600 / 6xx and stopped buying after that

        • signatures cameras a productive value

does this mean brand price premium for hygienic silver sneakers

          • @UsernameChecksIn:

            signatures cameras a productive value

Yes I mean some people sell photos, take photos instead of buying, and at the end can resell their excessively price camera body and lens.

            • +1

@cski: IEM also got productive value and you can also resell it for good price

when I see that somebody else is into something I'm not, I usually think to myself "good on them" and mind my own business

Good luck with the previous user's ear wax. LOL.

      • -3

true but i can't seem to find what it has that a top specced $500 earphones don't have. So don't get why the 3k or even above 1k price tag as unsure what is different

        • +2

Law of diminishing returns. A $1000 headphone isn't necessarily 2x better than a $500 headphone. You generally have to pay quite a bit more to get small improvements in audio quality as you go up the chain. When I had ~$500 HD600s I couldn't imagine anything better. Then I listened to the Focal Clears. I thought they were endgame for me. Then I auditioned Audeze LCDXs and even though they were not twice as good they had a different signature and bass decay which the Clears don't have. If you think these are expensive, search for Sennheiser Orpheus.

@bindok: Yeah the headphones for 85k that I understand but just don't understand the earphones as earphones cannot be as good as headphones.

    • +1
      • Feel like that's a fake listing and no one gets it.
I do understand 154k for cable but not that cable

      • Holy ****!

    • Cheaper to buy new ears

makes sense for the guy that crane lifted his sports car up the building into his apartment

      https://www.news.com.au/finance/money/costs/australia-erupts…

      • They haven't yet mounted a floating car to a pillar like the other designer

    • Law of diminishing returns. More and more money for smaller improvements.

A free pair of earphones offers the biggest jump in value. ie. No sound -> hearing something.

    • Different people have different budget constraints and different preference curves for different goods and services.

  • Hoelly Moley they really are that price for such a small piece of equipment

    • +1

      selling the dream

  • +2

I have tried all of the Sennheiser IE series, and unfortunately they really don't keep up with the Chi-fi IEMs these days… especially for the price!

    • Unfortunately I have to agree with this for all aspects except for bass and timbre. But at this price bracket it is starting to narrow down to specific qualities that excel above all others which might be favoured for those seeking them when people look for their endgame iems.

      • Maybe a ThieAudio Monarch Mk2 but its also expensive

        • The bass kind of sucks on them in my opinion but not everyone cares about bass. Mmk2 is excellent otherwise, especially for the price.

    • definitely not 3k for IE900…….chi-fi are killing it right now.
      good to see competitions.

      • Genuine question:

What are some good chi-fi suggestion that matches the performance of IE900?

        • This guy loves his chi-fi - https://crinacle.com/rankings/iems/

Personally I really love the Tangzu HeyDay edition.

        • I'll second the crinacle iem tier list. I picked up the 7hz Timeless based off the reviews and that ranking list (and because it's also available on amazon). Do not regret it at all.

        • ie900's standout trait is the bass quality. There is nothing at the moment that matches it in that aspect. Closest contender is the symphonium meteor but it is manufactured by a singaporean company

    this ozbargain or OzRichBargain?

    • +2

Imagine thinking spending $3k in your favourite hobby makes you "rich".

    • +1

      this is ozhobbyless.

    • Both. Look in the forums section at some of the polls/posts around demographics.

Bargains are generally done to increase sales and in many cases are impulse purchases. Think of the "memes" on posts like "buy now, think later" or posts on unopened packages.

At the very least, Ozbargainers would have disposable income.

but i do want a good deal on IE200 tho. the shape looks comfy af. wish its 100$ish iknow i am dreaming.

  • Just let Webull and Moomoo pay for them. Cheap

  • Am I in the wrong place ?

    • +2

Probably not. I'm guessing you're after something to match your 16" Apple laptop, Tesla, Peak Design backpack, Nomos watch, Ralph Lauren bear sweat shirt, Patagonia Down Jacket, RM Williams boots, Samsung fold4 1TB, mirrorless camera?

  • Free tinnitus in the deal

  • Am I missing something here?
Why are y'all talking like these are being sold as refurb/demo units?

I see nothing anywhere in the OP or the website that indicates these are used…?

  • 'average' isn't really something I want to hear on $2000 earphones

  • Good price on the 600s, thanks for sharing :)
