      sorry should be working now

  • Not coming up with the correct price? Code used…

  • $264.42 on ebay plus

    • Refresh should be fixed

  • Great deal!

  • Been waiting for this for a while. Paid $186.42. Thanks OP - am very happy with the last Pro 5 I ordered a few months ago.

    • +1

Great to hear. It's one of the most requests deal drops I have in my inbox at the moment.

  • I see $186.42 with eBay plus

  • Great price, got one!

  • +2

Great retailer. I bought one surface earlier and it works like a charm

    • +1

+1, bought from them a few times via ebay and website and very happy with the experience. One faulty monitor was replaced smoothly and in rapid time.

  • +2

It would be forever dead the moment SSD fails. No changable SSD is a big pain unlike SP4

    • +3

What the average lifespan before SSD dies?

      • +2

Not really a matter of time, more so the number of write cycles that it can take before it fails.

Which is about 1-2 petrabytes on average. You should get 10 years with even heavy use.

        Unless something breaks.

        • +1

10 years is plenty. So not a real concern. Thanks

          • +1

@congo: Yeah but this surface was released in 2017… can’t say how old these units actually are but I think it would be bette to expect closer to maybe 3-4 years?

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: You can run hwinfo and it will tell you how many tb has been written to the SSD. Then you can disable page file to boost the lifespan of the SSD as long as you don't use any apps that need it.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: It won't fail all at once, capacity will decrease as blocks are written as bad. There would remain a significant portion that has many years left, only a small portion will die in 3-4 years.

The vast majority of personal software use cases would be reading from the disk, I doubt much data would have been written at all, a few mb of browser history every day?

    • +3

For <$200 I reckon it's worth a shot. Me and maybe 4 or 5 generations of my offspring probably be dead before the SSD fails.

    • finally some truth.

    • For $180 I think that's a reasonable risk to take.

Not like you paid $1500 for one…

    • +3

You can get a persistent linux install on USB if this happens.

    • I've had 3 brand new surfaces die on me, granted they were the first three generations. 2x ssd and one gpu.

  • +8

So tempting, if only I didn't already have heaps of cheap laptops and tablets.

    • i only have two other but i want this too now. so bad

  • Good price! Was looking for keyboard after last purchase.

    Bought one. Thanks

  • Thanks OP! Got one.

    • +1

      What does OP means?

      • +3

        original post

It refers to the initial person who made a post or started a thread, such as on Reddit. Now, "OP" is broadly used to identify whoever made the original post that someone replying to, such as on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter or any other social media platform. "OP" can also be short for "original post."

        • I thought its the post by the owner… In short owner's post. Thanks clarification

          • +1

@Zeee: It's original poster, so you're correct in what you thought.

        • +2

I think the term op has been around for a long time, well before reddit, if anyone can imagine such a time =P

Typically "op" refers to a person. So I've always thought it was "original poster"?

          • @incipient: Now its getting confusing… Is it original post? Or original poster? Or owner post

            • +2

              @Zeee: OP = original poster

"Thanks OP!" = "Thank you for posting this, the person who posted this"

  • Is the description on this wrong?

This Microsoft Surface model features Windows RT as an operating system, it is powered by an ARM chipset, and it has a storage capacity of 64 GB

My Surface 3 is running Windows 10. Runs pretty well, but have been looking for a new type cover, at this price might just buy this one

    • +6

That's eBay's catalogue system trying to paste itself into listings. It's super frustrating as it's always wrong. Please ignore it as it's content not generated by us.

      • Thought as much, just wanted to double check :) Thanks for the reply

      • Sorry Calmago (and MBix for hijacking your message), when you say "please ignore it", does that mean ,even though the content shows different to what you have posted, when we buy it, the product will be the one you've advertised here?

        • +1

That is correct, always the best thing to go by is the product title.

    • Reminds me I should power back up my OG RT one soon and see if there's anything useful I can still do with it.

      • They're absolutely useless at this point

      • Home automation display, weather, news headlines, FiresNearMe alerts, next train/bus, music jukebox style controller.
Probably a birdnet node, retro gaming machine, weathercam, but might be fiddly getting software working.

        • I might look into some of those, thanks. I've already got a Pro 2 that sits on my desk solely to play music

  • +1

we have pile broken ones that litually stop a door from closing, because we haven't disposed of them yet lol.

    • +3

Maybe can be used for kungfu hitting practice

    • +3

Electronics recycling is a thing to some extent. Worth dropping them off, even if just to get the batteries out of your hair.

  • +2

What grade this would be OP?

  • Title says 6th gen, processor is 7300 is that right?

  • Thanks, I've been looking for a cheap Windows laptop for a while now and this fits the bill.

That said, has anyone had good experiences running linux on these machines?

    • I got one from the last deal and installed Fedora on it using the linux-surface kernel which you can find on GitHub. Works well for the most part. Works with most distributions.

      https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface

If you run into any troubles YouTube might be helpful.

      • Fedora is exactly what I was thinking of installing, good to know it has been okay for you.

  • +1

    Can Windows 11 be installed?

Edit: has anyone successfully used this registry edit to get Win 11 running on this 7300u CPU?

    • +1

Yes it can, I did it on the Surface Pro 5 I bought from the last deal. Works fine.

      • How is the performance compare to win 10?

        • +1

Didn't run it on Win 10 for long, but I think I actually prefer the way it handles tablets with tiles etc on 10. Win 11 is not particularly tablet friendly, the experience isn't much different to a desktop UI and makes it a bit awkward to use the tablet as a touchscreen interface. But it works fine, I'm happy with it overall.

    • +1

Did it on my surface 2 pro. She'll be fine

  • +1

    Good price OP!!

Great laptop for general browsing and MS office suites stuffs. Only issue is the battery life due to age but I plugged in power most of the time.

    • how long does your battery last?

      • +1

I didn't timed it tbh everytime it showed low batt I just plugin power. I just remember it doesn't last long perhaps around 30-45m? Also I used it for web browsing and mainly documents. I have tablet for entertainment

        • 30 - 45mins o_O

I was going to get one for parents to browse so they stop fighting over the old macbook air but that will not do then.
They like the backyard browsing youtube etc need decent batt life

          • +3

@ChatCPT: Sounds like a tablet is a better option.

          • +1

@ChatCPT: Yeah a tablet is the way to go. Got my dad an iPad Pro 12.9 cuz it has a big screen.

If they really need a keyboard, you can get a cheap Bluetooth one to go with it.

  • +3

    Hi OP,
For those of us that bought the SurfacePro 5 last time without the cover, is they any chance you have some spare genuine keyboard type covers to off load for us?
    Cheers.

    • +5

      No sorry

    • +3

Not sure why you got negged, I was going to ask the same thing!

      • -4

Simple. Seller doesn't have any. Asking is like if there's overstock. People are here to buy the whole thing not just the keyboard

        • +2

That's one way to look at it. My view is that if the seller did have overstock of the keyboards alone, it could have turned into another postable deal that could have benefited those of us looking for one.

          • @TheFunkySalsa: You are correct otherwise there’s enough quantity for individual post

        • +3

Fair enough. I was asking in the hope that there may have been some people after the tablet only and not the type cover, thus creating surplus.
Didn't think it would hurt to ask.

          • +1

            @The General:

Didn't think it would hurt to ask.

It doesn't, it was a fair question, neonlight has an attitude for no reason

        • +1

          How is it "simple" lol?

If they were a seller that only sold Surface tablets, then sure, but they're more than that - they're a refurbished/used computer trader who sell heaps of different genuine and aftermarket parts for a variety of devices including the Surface.

It's a fair question OP asked - nothing to do with overstock, you just took it that way for some reason? The type case is a standalone accessory you can buy

"People are here to buy the whole thing" - obviously not seeing as at least 3 people wanted to know if they sell the Type cover

I picked up an i7 version of this for around $200 (no keyboard) January, and they run hot! The cooling on these doesn't seem adequate for the job, and I've had to resort to a desktop fan to keep it cool.

    • i7 is a more powerful cpu so it will run hot..

    • Don't know why you are getting downvoted. This is an issue with all surface pros ever made. I've used several models

      • I had better cooling in my Surface Pro 2, than in the Surface Pro 5. But yes, it's a known issue. Each their own.

      • Agree it's fanless so it's poor even surface laptop are like that

  • It's saying 'This code can't be applied to your order' for me. Any tips?

  • +1

    OOS :(

  • -1

what is the use case for old tech? for streaming movies?

    • +1

      Air gapped Crypto wallets? ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ

    • +2

A functional and portable computer for under $200?

    • +1

At this level not much has changed significantly since release in 2017… basic office work will be fine for this model

    • +2

Mum computer, great for studying online, uniwork, basic tasks, home automation

    • I use one for screen for displaying security cameras.

  • Would this be suitable for stage 4 students (year 7, 8)?

I guess battery life could be a concern, will need to last 5-6 hour day.

    Edit: OOS already.

    • +1

next time buy first and ask later :D

  • Out of stock just missed it

  • +1

Missed it. Was gonna have a stab!

  • +1

Does it come with the surface pen as well?

  • OOS

  • well that will teach me…just watched an 8min review on it….decided to buy and…out of stock…lol

    • A noob question, what do people do with this nowadays? I have the 128gb 8gb version bought years ago brand new with pen then upgraded due to the specs not coping even just slightly larger spreadsheet. And it’s 7th gen dual core not officially compatible with win 11.
I will probably put it on eBay apparently it still has some value and people have some use out of it. But just curious.

  • Thanks OP, Got one to replace my aging Miix 320. The Atom x5-Z8350 was getting a little bit outdated haha. I think i got the last one as it went OOS as soon as i purchased.

    • Loved the 320, but my keyboards failed, so tablets now.

You'll be getting 4x the cpu speed, 5x the pixels, but most importantly perhaps is double the RAM.
