  • Was going to pull the trigger yesterday on Sony KD65X85K for $1,196 less $100 with Code HGTSEP. Woke up today feeling good and found RFRB22 Code to get it down to $932.88, saving another $163.20 over and above the $100 initial code discount. The X85K is a great gaming TV.

    • The Sony KD65X85K for $1,196 less $100 with Code HGTSEP is a refurbished TV?

      • +1

Yes. Can you find a new kd65x85K for $1196? The new ones are close to $2000

    • +1

Worth mentioning that the codes cap out at a $300 discount, so only really worth it up to the $1500 mark.

  • Anyone have experience any issues with Sony Refurb? Heard some pretty bad horror stories on other brands

    • I got a frame damaged A80J (second), they offered me 15% refund and I accepted it.

Box damaged products are brand new, better choice.

  • +1

Worst experience of my shopping life tv arrived after 3 weeks, dead, another month before it was picked up n 3 more weeks for refund, tv was scratched n dirty to boot, avoid check out their feedback

    • +2

For every 1 negative feedback there appear to be 50 positive. Perhaps unlucky. I have had only positive experience with 2 previous Sony second's Tv's bought in last 6-8 months…. one I use in my gaming simulator and the other is with family as their main tv.

      • +2

So the odd is 1 in 50 (may be better as people are quicker to put neg than pos feedback), I’d take that odd for the amount of saving. YMMV.

Just a heads up… the definition of “refurbished” for Sony is quite loose. I ordered an 83in OLED refurb from Sony ebay and while it’s not as awful as some people have received (still broken etc.) what I got was a TV that is clearly several years old and heavily used - the remote control was also full of scratches and a bit gross.
If I had to guess I would say it was a warranty return that they have patched up and sent out.

Not what would expect if you’ve ever purchased a refurb from Apple or other brands that do it properly. I wouldn’t buy anything refurbished by Sony again.

I've bought two Sony refurbished products off ebay.
One was a sound bar that is still working but has issues from day one (The LED display doesn't work and the Sub is dead quiet).
The second was an expensive pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones that were sold as "box damaged but unopened and brand new" The box was fine, they had clearly been opened previously as all the seals were broken and the headphones never worked.

  • I don't think I'd ever buy a refurb or box-damaged one without seeing it in person first. Unless it's reduced to throw-away money or there's a real solid warranty

  • Bought a seconds awhile ago, first one came and there was a marker pen drawn circle on the inside of the panel. I suspect it was accidentally drawn when they were replacing the panel. Sadly I can't wipe it off since it was inside and returns was pretty quick. Got a replacement which was another seconds and it's been going strong for the past 2 years.

It will be hit or miss but they will replace it if it has issues.

Got an KD65X80K for the old folk. Thanks.

  • Just reiterating the fact you gotta be veeeeeeeery careful buying from the Sony eBay store as others have suggested

Sony support has always been crap for decades. Buying seconds and refurbs from Sony is just playing with fire.

  • Hi I need help!

    I want to buy 2nd laptop. Save a watch list. Still thinking a good deal 22% off with ebay plus. E.g $700 * 0.78 = $546

Now I received an offer 10% off that laptop. Does anyone know if I accept that offer, I still could apply the 22% off coupon? $630 * 0.78 ~ $491

    Thanks!!!

Update: Just received my Sony KD65X85K for $932.88, delivered via DHL. The TV box looks a bit dusty, but apart from that it appears to be in as new condition. Pretty much immaculate packaging just like a new TV, with all new sealed remote control, cables, connectors, manual etc. I have set the TV up and so far it is immaculate.

The comments in this thread gave me anxiety….I got the Sony XR65X90J and yeah it's pretty much new. Phenomenal tv for just over $1000.

My only criticism was….the box was a bit dirty. But to be expected. Even the delivery guys from DHL were great.

  • Ordered the 65" X90K refurbished, 7 days courier and arrived today. Out of the box you could see it had been setup previously. Ie no setup instrctions and accessories just floating in the box without wrap. Hand prints and dust on the back of the tv. Anyway switched on and had huge high pitch screen noise, loud enough to make you feel unwell. So audio was f**ked. Bottom speakers not working, and wheb adjusting volume speakers wouldnt go louder than a whisper. This was an obvious returned unit where the techs never even looked at and sent out again. Now to go through the return process.

    • +1

Just an update on this. Sony aurhorised third party tech to look and repair the unit. They would only look at it in home. The tech was unable to fix the power whine and took the tv away. They also damaged the wall/ceiling while swinging the rear tv cover arround (which i have made a claim for).
Now in the process of trying to get a refund where sony says they are waiting on the tech to confirm tv status, and tech saying they have, and waiting for sony to confirm their report.. such a pain in the ass.

I am not pressed for a tv as i have a spare, however comments were right about the risks of buying sony referb and how difficult it is to return.
