how long do you need to wait at recharge station before you can leave with a good enough charged car?
can't imagine doing interstate trips being easy

Are all the charging station free?

petrol still easier to leave in 5 minutes

    • You can do a bit of search on this yourself.

Fair call if you are just used to fill up your petrol and go.

What I would usually do for interstate travelling is stop by a place to get a feed, leave the car on charge. There are a lot of EVs in Australia but definitely not to a point overcrowding charging stations.

Not sure if you are taking the piss but no, some charging stations are free and some are not. Again, google it :)

      • Fair call if you are just used to fill up your petrol and go.

I am actually interested real experience of Telsa owner in Australia since EV charging stations are not as common in Australia vs USA.

yeah if you do interstate you need to change how you would do it with EV vs petrol.
Since there is not that many EV charging station you need to plan more where to stop and need to wait why it charges.

How long would it take you to charge to 100% at those station before you can leave?
and do you charge to 100% or 85% etc to increase battery life cycle?

Not sure if you are taking the piss but no, some charging stations are free and some are not.

        Not taking the piss.
Just read about Tesla owners in USA allowed to charge for free at Telsa stations, I think it cos they pay some EV yearly tax fee or something that covers it
or part Tesla package deal etc..

Not sure if that is also the case in Australia, that you pay some yearly EV tax and get free charging etc.

Why some station is free charging and some not,
is it part of fee you pay annually to Tesla or Aus government and those Tesla stations free and the ones that charge are not Tesla station?

        • Did a road trip SYD-MEL recently with a Model Y RWD. Didn't take that much longer compared to doing the trip with petrol car. Cost about $60 each way for supercharger. You can pay less (or even free) by using slower charger but you're trading off time. Did 3 stops along the way and the car pre-conditions the battery so by the time you get to a supercharger, it's ready to take on max charging speed. Each stop was about 15 mins. I arrived less tired because of these mandatory stops.

          • @trisnadi: are the free charging cover by some EV tax in australia?
those are also own by Telsa or which companies (and why would they allow free charging since it would cost them money)?

Did 3 stops along the way and the car pre-conditions the battery so by the time you get to a supercharger, it's ready to take on max charging speed.

            what is pre condition mean?

Do you charge to 85% to increase battery life cycle (like on phones)?

Why did you buy electric vehicle?
            -for environment
            -petrol saving cost

            • @pinkybrain: I bought Tesla EV for:
              a) FBT exempt
              b) state gov cashback
              c) quiet
              d) smooth
              e) awesome sound system
              f) powerful & fast
              g) premium luxury feel & quality

that's all .. couldn't care less about other factors.

              • @matt-ozb: All very compelling reasons.

However, in NSW, you can’t claim the $3000 rebate if you are acquiring an EV through a novated lease, which sucks!

                • @SirFrankGrimes: ah ok .. different rules for different states.

downside is that depreciation will be a killer when I sell after a 1 year lease! .. basically the FBT exemption and state gov cashback will catch up with me and translate into high depreciation.

                  • @matt-ozb: I’m very keen to own a Tesla, but can remain patient until project Highland (hopefully) comes to fruition in Australia

                  • @matt-ozb: Why only 1 year lease? Are you going to sell and repeat 1 year leases for maximum tax savings each year?

            • +1

@pinkybrain: Pre-conditioning refers to getting the battery to optimal temperature for charging, which I believe is around 20°C.

Normally while driving, as long as the battery is in the 10°-30°C range, the Tesla won't waste battery power on heating or cooling the battery pack. However, if you have set a charge stop in the navigation system, it will expend some energy to get the battery to the optimal charging temperature as it approaches the charging stop.

        • Tesla does not generally offer free charging in the US.

Previously Tesla did offer unlimited free charging for the lifetime of the vehicle with their more expensive models. It was phased out in 2018 with a very few exceptions. It was never related to any EV tax. They still have occasional offers of time limited free charging as a sales incentive.

How to tell if your Tesla qualifies for free Supercharging

          • @trongy: why is some station free to charge in australia as mentioned by someone above?
how does those stations recover their cost?

is it related to any EV tax in australia?

            • @pinkybrain: might be funded by the store to get business.

might be only the first 7kWh are free, hoping you keep charging at say 40c/kWh.

            • @pinkybrain: The simple answer is nothing is related to EV tax.

    • Are petrol stations free?

  • -1

Annoying that if you want any option you have to forego the rebate.

-Only the base model on the y (as is, white)
-The model 3 you can only get the base model but can change colour wheels etc.

    • For NSW, you can choose the colour on the base model

      • is this to be eligible for the NSW rebate?

  • Is there upgrades more than the battery on the long range models? It is so much money for a little bit more range.

    • +2

Dual motors and all wheel drive the bigger ones.

    • +1

Bit more range, awd and 0-100 in nearly 2secs faster. Not worth the $13k extra for me

  • Estimated delivery: June 2023 LOL

  • Should I wait for HW4 in Model Y?But seems it won't come this year.

    • same struggle here

    • I'm doing 1 year novated lease .. will upgrade next year and hopefull HW4 and highland

    • Are u planniung on buying the self driving upgrade? HW4 is really for that mainly..

      • don't need self-driving .. just any upgrades will be good.

    • I talked to Tesla's sales assistance. He told me HW4 for Australia is still unsure about date. I was told 'maybe around end of this year or early next year'.

  • What's resale like on Tesla's?

    • Not going to be very good with the FBT exemption benefits and state gov benefits .. that will flow into resale prices.

Probably similar to a BMW or Audi

  • i picked up a model y from the tesla delivery a week ago. maybe sell current one?

    • There’s no point… I think.

I mean how much u gonna sell it for lol? Ur best bet is people who can’t wait but it’s gone past FY already, so I would say those were hoping to get in before EOFY won’t be in a rush to buy.

  • +1

Tesla doesn't support bi-directional charging (Vehicle-to-grid/v2g/v2l) from my research but Musk says it 'may', from 2025 - does anyone know if that will mean existing model's just need a software update/over-the-air to enable it, if I bought one in 2023 - or if it's likely a hardware thing and then only those model's actually built from 2025 or whenever they equip them with it, will be able to offer it?

  • comprehensive insurance cost on Model 3 by Tesla?

    • Tesla don’t offer insurance here in AU

Hi All, I'm located in VIC and wanting to purchase and register a vehicle in QLD for obvious reasons, ideally through a company. Has anyone managed to do this successfully and if so, what is involved? If the company has a registered office in QLD, is that enough, or would I need a QLD driver's licence etc? Thanks in advance!

  • Received my Y RWD today… didn’t come with a charging cable… :-(

    • Yea, everyone knows that .. hasn't happened since early this year. What's your point? Just buy for $550. Next day delivery from Tesla

    • May I ask when did you placed your order? Thanks.

      • 4 Jul

        • Wow…. that's super quick. I ordered back on 27/6 but still no updates from Tesla. Are you in NSW? Thanks.

  • Merged from Tesla Model Y - Rear Wheel Drive, White, Gemini Wheels, Victoria - $70,817 (Possible Glitch) @ Tesla
    Go to Deal

*Seems like it's only for Victorian pricing. Updated title

Hi Everyone, first time I've posted a deal but noticed today when looking at Tesla Model Y pricing it seemed lower at $70,817 drive away. When I changed anything on the configurator seemed like the pricing went back up to $71,064 drive away.

    Steps to get there.

    • Clear all cookies and cache in your browser
    • Go to https://www.tesla.com/en_AU/
    • Scroll down to Tesla Model Y and click order now
    • Choose your state (Vic), *do not change anything in the configurator
    • The region picker will come up, click the X at the top right to close
    • See lower pricing of $70,817 drive away *if you change anything in the configurator you'll need to start from step 1 again.

It allows you to reserve at this price. If this is the configuration you want, worth giving it a shot to see if it's honoured.

    • +1

Maybe there’s a price drop coming, following China, EU and USA.

    • +4

      is RRP a bargain?

      • Updated title, looks like a glitch for Vic on roads.

      • You are in the market to buy something and you check ozbargain, someone mentioned price gone down and you will be saving $$$.

        Sounds bargain to me.

    • +1

      PRICE in title.
      STORE in title.

    • +1

      Do they take Afterpay?

    • i thought they dropped $1k for rest of this month.

    • +5

Thanks OP. bought 2 and managed to proceed to checkout. Now waiting to see if they cancel.

      • +2

Waiting for $10 voucher after cancelling

    • +4

Of all the companies i would expect to not honor price glitches, Tesla is at the top of the list

    • +1

Facelift version due later in the year.

    • +3

Comparing the 2 prices looks like it's just the on road fees that is different.

      Drive Away Price $70,817
      $67,200
Includes delivery fee of $1,400 and order fee of $400
      Luxury Car Tax $0
      Local Stamp Duty $2,460
      Local Registration Costs $578
      Local CTP $437
      Local Plate Fee $142
      On Road Fees Subtotal $3,617
      Drive Away Price $70,817

      and

      Drive Away Price $71,064
      $67,200
Includes delivery fee of $1,400 and order fee of $400
      Luxury Car Tax $0
      Local Stamp Duty $2,823
      Local Registration Costs $264
      Local CTP $552
      Local Plate Fee $225
      On Road Fees Subtotal $3,864
      Drive Away Price $71,064

      • Victorian CTP varies based on region, so the difference is probably due to it assuming one region or another.

I highly suspect they would ask you to pay the difference if you did order it and live in the higher CTP region.

        • Someone posted below but seems to be picking up NSW originally.

    • Haters gonna hate… Ugly-looking Cars…Solid Technology :) (Individual opinion)

Murdoch lovers think Elon was a bad bad migrant and needs to be hated for not donating to Murdoch!

      Snap it up!

Biosecurity would not allow the wheels where stinkbugs were gernied off.

      Enjoy!

    • NSW is $70,817. VIC is $71,064.

      • Good point so seems like its pulling in the NSW on roads for first page load

        • When I go to the model Y site there's a prompt to select which state I'm in. If you hit the X NSW is already selected. Just select the state you're in.

    • -4

Will not pay more than $50K for top range Tesla even if they put rocket 🚀 engine in it, happy to wait few years!

      • -3

        use and throw car

      • Just wait for the next Eneloop or Ikea battery deal

      • Tesla claim 12% battery degradation after 200,000 miles (~320,000km). Real world is about 13-18%. Even then, car is still perfectly usable…..
Either way, the battery will probably outlive the user.

  • -1

Anyone know which insurer has a good deal on the model y, a quote from budget direct has it at $3.5k which is ridiculous.

    • +1

nobody can tell you this. Everyone in diff situations. Just shop around
