    The shipping kills the deal

    • +18

Shipping? They should just tell it to drive itself to its new home.

      • +8

        Vehicle Subtotal (including GST) $59,200
Includes delivery fee of $1,400 and order fee of $400

        • +22

          order fee of $400

          The off the scale audacity

        • +2

          click and collect allowed?

    • +6

Solid meta OZB joke. Don't know why you got downvoted

    • +3

How the thing looks kills the deal, frumpy bar of soap looking thing, but mothers demand their SUV's I suppose.

      • Not that I want a Tesla with the current line up, but the Y does have some things that the 3 does (but should imo). For me these are support for a tow ball and a large enough opening from the boot onto the folded down seats to fit a mountain bike. I'll probably wait for a ex30 which seems like a better y for the price of a 3.

        • +1

EX30 is meant to be a lot smaller though

          113.8-inch wheelbase (Y) vs 104.3-inch wheelbase (EX30). Around 25cm difference

    • -2

Elon Musk's involvement kills the deal

      • +3

        How so?

        • +8

Probably a result of butthurt communism and hatred of freedom

      • -3

        This is a neg vote.

Seriously, ran out of neg votes as the daily quota is used up because of too many scomo comments on previous Tesla deal. Feel free to upvote if you agree.

      • +1

Ownership-wise he only owns about 13% of Tesla I believe, about the same as GM these days. The main holder group is retail investors, no doubt Australians included. A new CEO was named some time ago.

Meanwhile people forget the history behind almost every other make…

        • -7

I think you’re getting mixed up with Twitter re new CEO. The tool is very much still in charge of Tesla

    • Original title prices omitted delivery and order fees. These have been added back to the title prices.

  • +25

Presumably once I click through and all costs are added it's $10k more so feels a little misleading.
What would be useful imo is to add the lowest onroad cost (whatever state that is) to these adverts (sorry deals).

    • +33

You have cause to complain. Cars are supposed to be priced drive-away AND it is drip pricing.

      • +2

Not sure you have "cause" to complain. This isn't an official advertisment from tesla, it's a user generated post.

Feel free to collate the data and post a comment, i'm sure it can be added to the post.

        • +6

OP is simply posting the prices shown on the website. We are saying those prices on the website are misleading.

          • @DingoBlue:

We are saying those prices on the website are misleading.

            How?

I just looked at the base model Y in NSW, it literally says '$68k driveaway' on the first page. And if I don't select any options and click through, it's ends up being $68k.

      • Each state has a different ORC, and also gov benefits. Should all those numbers be included in the ads too?

    • +1

Kinda agree. The $57k in Qld is about $61k drive away, then rebate back of $6k meaning it’s $55k (Tesla says $51k but they add an unknown fuel saving)

      • -1

They detail the fuel saving calculation very clearly.

        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/241169/104785/img_5831…

        • +1

So only expect to save a couple of grand on fuel, then what after 5 years the car is worthless?

          • @redfox1200: This is my concern as well. It is allowed to drop range by 20% after 5 years and still will be within 'normal'. These cars don't have realiability data up to 20 years. If I buy it I want to keep it for a long time and I have no confidence that it will hold range or the battery won't fail. NONE of my eneloops have lasted that long and they literally use tiny cells like the Li-ion 4680.

        • +1

This is like ice cars saying 60k driveway + 10k of fuel over 5 years. It doesn't mean anything and it's not a saving

        • Yeah. But that is lacking so much detail it means nothing.

          • -1

@PVA: Did you even look at the product page, or just my screenshot?

  • +4

Model 3 drop around $4-6k as well

    • +7

It's not the normal price mate.

        • +4

ok buddy if it makes you feel better.

I'm glad to save $3,000+ given the price reduction, to me this is a good deal and may make some people to pull the trigger.

Also they may increase the price back up at any given time, so if you place order at this price, this is the price you pay and if it goes down lower in the future you will again pay less.

Edit: actually will save $7k, so hell yeah this is a deal.

        • yes, it is the normal RRP price now .. but it is one of the cheapest ever prices over the last few years.

          don't think you're a real ozbargainer.

        • +1

Wizard you’re right, it’s RRP but just discounted. If people can put up releases of streaming movies like Marvel and still get counted as a “deal”, then what’s wrong with this?

        • Your head must have been hurting during all the PS5 and Xbox Series deals haha

    • +3

are you sure? the 3 that i bought a few months ago is now $4k cheaper :(

      i'm sure .. you're wrong

      • -7

Correct. Posters above can't cope. This is NOT a deal! Was cheaper before.

        • When was it cheaper?

          • -3

            @alfawex: With the 6k rebate.

            • @Wizard: Yeah so when have Tesla had it cheaper? Rebates are state specific. Also if you're in QL it's just now fallen into the range for a $6k rebate in addition to the pricedrop

            • @Wizard: QLD 6k rebate ?

Yeah, you get that too , so another 6k off from already further discounted price of this deal.

So It's even cheaper now than ever before. And it was never cheaper than this before.

        • I’m sorry but you are baked mate lol. When was it cheaper?

When it was first released it was priced at $68,900.

  • +2

I wonder if the new polestar 2 in base form won't be the better car given they all get the "big battery", though likely more expensive again.

    • +19

electric is doomed. im converting my Kia Rio to steam in anticipation of societal breakdown.

      • +17

        You’re assuming access to water.

      • Horse and a cart would be a better bet.

      • +2

old South Park episode predicted the future.. Mr Garrison invented a certain mode of transport which i probably cant go into details about on here……

    • +9

A big battery means nothing if the car is inefficient, like the polestar. In general, bigger battery = more expensive/slower to charge to full = more weight = bad.

    • I was keen on the polestar 2 but being a bit over $10k more kills it. I'm thinking the ex30 might be a better alternative.

  • +1

Similar price to toyota rav4 AWD cruiser

    • +13

wow .. the Tesla really is a bargain!

    • +2

The value proposition is really going towards electrics nowadays.

      • +2

It's inevitable, electric cars are less complex than ICE cars and would be cheaper if it wasn't for the high demand (which has obviously started to fall since we are heading into recession)

    • +2

      $52k vs $68k?

      • +2

In QLD you'd get $6k rebate and cheaper stamp duty on Tesla

    • +8

They’re really stretching that “Cruiser” moniker. I can’t wait for the Yaris Cruiser.

    • -6

As a current MY2023 RAV 4 cruiser owner, and have test driven the Y, the RAV is head and shoulders better than the Y.

If it wasn't for the FBT, I'd be keeping the RAV4, instead I'm changing over to the Model 3. Will miss it's incredibly well designed and comfortable interior.

      • -1

Lol at the negs. Must be from model Y owners.

Buy it all if you want, but put up with the terrible ride, the less practical boot space, the not terribly pleasant interior, and the need to regular plug in the cable, vs the once a month fuel stop with the rav4 hybrid (I am not looking forward to this once I change over to the model 3).

      • As a current MY2023 RAV 4 cruiser owner, and have test driven the Y, the RAV is head and shoulders better than the Y.

I used to have a RAV4 Cruiser, it was a great car, good enough to go light off-road when required, something you won't see many Tesla's doing. The SV6 is even better if you can find one.

  • +4

Not sure why but EV posts remind me of old caged egg posts.

    • -1

      have you driven a Tesla?

      • +2

No, why? I was referring to the hate comments they attract.

        • +8

oh ok .. i didn't quite understand .. just me being slow.

          • @matt-ozb: Most intellectual Tesla driver

@matt-ozb: Working too hard to pay the Tesla makes you slow in thinking ;)

            but 100% offside with Elon

Some people are too emotionally fragile to handle opinions that differ from their own…

            • +1

@1st-Amendment: Lol 1st Amendment - as you should know best, we are free to have our own opinions, and make our own purchase decisions. If I choose not to buy a Tesla because I don’t like Elon, that’s my call. He can spew out all the conspiracy theories he likes and if that floats your boat, great

              • @icomeforthecomments:

If I choose not to buy a Tesla because I don’t like Elon, that’s my call.

Of course, when did I say otherwise? I merely observed that a lot of people can't handle differing opinions…

He can spew out all the conspiracy theories he likes and if that floats your boat, great.

Just curious, what 'conspiracy theories' of his do you disagree with?

                • +2

@1st-Amendment: “The tech mogul’s tweets lend credence to conspiracy theories, including Musk’s Monday evening tweet in which he said, “Soros reminds me of Magneto,” likening billionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros to Marvel’s Jewish supervillain from the X-Men series. Musk claimed that Soros does not have “good intentions”: “He wants to erode the very fabric of civilization. Soros hates humanity.” (Musk’s comments about Soros drew a rebuke from Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt. “Soros often is held up by the far-right, using antisemitic tropes, as the source of the world’s problems,” Greenblatt wrote on Twitter. “To see @ElonMusk, regardless of his intent, feed this segment — comparing him to a Jewish supervillain, claiming Soros ‘hates humanity’ — is not just distressing, it’s dangerous: it will embolden extremists who already contrive anti-Jewish conspiracies and have tried to attack Soros and Jewish communities as a result.”)

And… “three days after Elon Musk bought Twitter, he posted a tweet promoting the baseless allegation that Paul Pelosi, the husband of the speaker of the House, who was assaulted on Friday at the couple’s home, had been drunk and in a fight with a male prostitute.”

                  Google, and you’ll find more

                  • @icomeforthecomments:

The tech mogul’s tweets lend credence to conspiracy theories

Yet you can't provide any. Quotes of opinions from pro left-wing sources are not evidence…

                    "Soros reminds me of Magneto"

If that is all you have it's a pretty sad reflection on your judgement.

Musk claimed that Soros does not have “good intentions”: “He wants to erode the very fabric of civilization. Soros hates humanity.”

If you've done even 5 minutes of research on George Soros this is a valid comment. The guy is doing a LOT of backroom deals funding numerous activist causes to undermine democratic processes.

he posted a tweet promoting the baseless allegation that Paul Pelosi

Again have you spent 5 minutes researching that incident? It has dodgy written all over it.

If you just want to believe the media version of events (in many cases funded by Soros) then so be it. Some of us like to question the narrative being fed to us and are happy that at least one tech company is allowing this.

                    • @1st-Amendment: Oh dear you’re one of them. Copy that. Good luck to you. Believe all the lies and conspiracy theories you want. I’m just glad I’m not in your head, it would be stressful.

                      • @icomeforthecomments:

Believe all the lies and conspiracy theories you want

The irony is that you are the conspiracy theorist in this story. You made the claim yet can't support it with a shred of evidence.

I’m just glad I’m not in your head, it would be stressful.

                        Yet more irony…

                        • @1st-Amendment: Dude you’re just saying words. Speaking of actual evidence, there is zero evidence Paul Pelosi’s intruder was a male prostitute and they were having an affair (which is what Musk referred to). And Soros has given billions away to charities - more than you or I or Musk for that matter will ever give. This is a fact. I’m sorry that offends you and that you believe antisemitic tropes. Did you learn about WWII in high school? As you delusional leader would say “sad”

                          • @icomeforthecomments:

there is zero evidence Paul Pelosi’s intruder was a male prostitute and they were having an affair

Cool, but saying so doesn't qualify as a 'conspiracy theory'. There's some odd circumstances around that incident, and speculating about it isn't a crime.

And Soros has given billions away to charities - more than you or I or Musk for that matter will ever give

Musk has already donated 'Billions' so might want to read up on that… he's also much younger and wealthier than Soros so will likely surpass him in due course
Also worth noting that Soros 'funds' organisations that further his political causes. Calling that 'charity' is misleading.

I’m sorry that offends you and that you believe antisemitic tropes

And there we have it. You are never ever allowed to question the motives of anyone Jewish otherwise you are aNtIsEmEtIc…. You are once again the conspiracy theorist in this conversation…

Did you learn about WWII in high school?

Not really, but I'd read extensively on it since and know quite a bit about it. Which bit specifically did you have in mind that is relevant here?

      • +1

Have you seen the price of a Tesla? Oh, whoops. Any self respecting ozbargainer would not be driving anything but a second hand camry. Anything else is a HYIP car.

    • Or cage fights. The first rule of EV Club is…

  • Rrp

    • +1

RRP always changing. They don't have sale prices. This is a bargain if you check historic pricing .. just google for price history table in australia.

      • +1

This was looking as RIP - to spend so much money on fast outdated models (like iPhone 14 & Galaxy s23U 2x better;)
See how BYD is releasing exciting range of better value & more practical cars.

        • +4

I'm not sure how you get the more practical cars given the Tesla's have access to more fast chargers than any other EV.

Fast out dated? Given they keep improving the vehicles through over the air updates, I have never seen a vehicle that keeps more up to date.

        • Exciting if you like gambling on it burning to the ground or not deploying its airbags when it should and being made from crushed up apple cores and Chinese newspapers. The last two were made up, but just like Powersauce Bars, what you get from BYD is not what you expect.

        • +2

Naahhh.. don't like burning cars.. :D

        • Very similar strategy of other Chinese products. Cheap, prob better spec-ed.
My observations see that Korean continue to support Korean made cars and mobiles
Chinese support German cars and iphones. I hardly see Haval, GWM, LDV, MG or BYD been driven by them.

I wonder if some unsuspecting politician is driving a BYD, MG or Volvo/polestar into government buildings
