NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points with $1,000 Spend in 60 Days, $95 Annual Fee @ NAB

3390

I was browsing NAB website and noticed this popular deal now available directly through NAB.

The 120K points were awarded to me very quickly (approx ~5 days after spend criteria was met) and I ended up using it to redeem $650 worth of gift cards (before it auto redeemed into velocity points)

Terms & Conditions:
NAB Rewards Platinum Card — 70k Velocity auto redemption offer
Offer commenced on 6 June 2023 and ends 5 September 2023. To be eligible for the up to 70,000 Velocity bonus Points offer (automatically redeemed from 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points), you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, apply for a new personal NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card before the offer is withdrawn, have your application approved, provide your Velocity membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption, spend $1,000 on everyday purchases using your new card within 60 days of opening account and keep you card for over 12 months. You’ll receive an email from NAB after your application has been approved with information on how to provide your Velocity membership number to NAB. Redemption of Velocity Points and the Velocity membership is subject to the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions.

Points will be awarded on a tiered basis – You will be eligible to receive 120,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points when you spend $1,000 on everyday purchases in the first 60 days of opening your account (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria, and will be automatically redeemed for 60,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter and 20,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points after you have had your card for over 12 months (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within the 13th month and will be automatically redeemed for 10,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter). The name of the cardholder must match the name on the Velocity membership number. Offer limited to one total allocation of 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points per Velocity account.

Everyday purchases exclude transactions NAB decides are wholly or partly for gambling or gaming purposes. You must provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to NAB in order to have your NAB Rewards points automatically redeemed for Velocity Points. Each week the NAB Rewards Points that you've earned will be transferred to Velocity Points with 2 NAB Rewards Points = 1 Velocity Point, provided your Velocity Frequently Flyer membership is linked to your account.

Your NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card must remain open and in good standing, and you must be enrolled in Auto Redemption to receive the Velocity Points.

This offer is not available to existing NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card customers or customers who have had a NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card within 18 months prior to applying for a new NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer.

A reduced annual card fee of $95 will be charged when the card is opened and applies for the first 12 months. You will be charged the standard $195 annual card fee in the 13th month of your card account.

      • Got it, thanks!

  • I received the card a week ago. I spent ~$3000 on the day I activated it, and this morning I received the 120,000 bonus points, and together with the extra few thousand points from my spending, I had enough to redeem for $600 of Coles gift cards which I received quickly by email. Looking at the above comments, I can see that I could have redeemed for Flybuys points instead which would have been a little bit easier.

My question is: If I cancel it now, will it stop me being charged the annual fee? It hasn't yet been charged.

    • I think the annual fee is charged on your first statement. So you might have the pay it anyway, but I could be wrong.

  • I met the spend and had just over 1000 points that were converted to velocity on Monday morning. Then I spent some more and still no bonus.

I'm thinking if it doesn't come soon, I might need to turn off auto redemption and then turn it back on after next Monday. To avoid any accidental redemptions…

I can only assume that disabling and re-enabling will not void anything.

    • Me too. Waiting is just frustrated.

  • Was hoping to get a couple of larger eBay gift cards with the points prior to conversion but NAB only do $50 cards which isn't going to help with big purchases because of the gift card limit. Anyone got any ways around or other ways to get good eBay conversion for larger cards? None of the Ultimate cards appear to have eBay options.

    • Or is there a way to trade multiple small denominations to larger with eBay?
Or a multi-swap to some Coles/Flybuys, then use that to buy eBay gift cards in store… or from gitcards.com.au.
Lol - hurting my noggin trying to to run the scenarios.

  • +1

For anyone still interested. My partner got their 120k points 7 days after hitting the spend requirement. Mine came through about 8-9 days after spending the $1k. This meant I got the 120k, but did "lose" about 2k which went off to Velocity on Monday morning.

Overall, very happy with the deal!

    • Good news though! Just hope that 120K points don't get converted automatically on Monday before redeeming for gift cards.

  • For anyone who is redemeeing for 120k Flybuys points, did you add Velocity Member number and activate auto redemption but redeemed for Flybuys before the auto redemption took place?

  • I was waiting for the rewards points to come through and cancel the card before the first statement is generated to avoid paying the annual fee but the statement got generated today in just 2 weeks after card approval ☺️

Anyone who has met the spend and is waiting for the bonus points and looking to avoid paying the fee, I would suggest to change your statement date to few weeks later so you can get the points and cancel the card.

    • to avoid paying the annual fee

they can still make you pay it if you try and cancel prior to the fee being applied

    • How do you change the statement date? I don’t think one could do it online on our own?

      • once you are in viewing your account, top right settings button, scroll down to statements.

        • I tried both online banking and mobile app, I didn't see any option to change statement date. I only saw online or paper statement options. Can you tell me where you did it?

          • @ozproud: sorry I misread.
not sure about changing date, you'd probably have to contact them. I have never done it @ any bank.

  • If you don't have a velocity membership, are you still eligible for the bonus NAB rewards points?

    • Yes I did this. You are still given 120k NAB reward points if you don't provide a Velocity number.

      • Perfect thank you.

  • I know this may seem like a silly question but how do I repay my credit card debt? I don't have a transaction account with NAB, will I have to make one to transfer between? I'm open to making a transaction account, just don't really want another debit card

    • +1

Use BPAY. Details are on your statement.

      • Thank you so much!

  • Anyone met their spend around 12th July and got their points? Wondering if things have changed at NAB and they are no longer crediting points within a week of meeting the spend as others have got it in the past. I am still waiting for points since spending $1000 on 12th July.

    • Spent over $1000 on 11th July and got points on the 18th. Hopefully you'll get your points soon

    • I met my spend on 14th July and got my points about 6 days later.

      • hey there, wonder is it true that you just submit Velocity number after you activate the credit card? Haven't see any place last night when I applied the card !

And some folks suggesting the NAB point to V is not instantaneous, so still get a window to transfer them into gift card ?

        • +2

Yeh you provide your velocity online/in-app after activating your card.
It takes some more days after for them to activate your rewards account. Once it's activated you can see a link to the rewards site in the Cards section of your account. (Otherwise it just says still setting up your rewards).

The NAB points are converted every Monday I believe so yes you have a window. But also if you don't want Velocity points yet, you don't have to provide a Velocity number, you can do that at anytime, you will still get the NAB points regardless.

          • +1

            @wangasm: thanks a lot ! Very detailed.

Hope you enjoy either your V trip or GC!

  • Somehow points transfer (redeem) between nab and velocity is not instantaneous?

I was told by Nab to wait for up to 10 business days for the bonus points to show up in velocity, what a joke.

    • My first transfer took 1 business day and the subsequent ones were pretty much instantaneous.

    • Yep my first (pre bonus) amount was super quick - 1 day.

  • Received 120K NAB points exactly 7 days after meeting $1k spending requirements. I never supplied them my Velocity number for it to auto redeem

    • +1

When did you meet the spend? Mine is almost close to 2weeks now and no points yet which is getting me a little worried as I turned on/off the Velocity auto redemption a couple of times.

      • Did you receive the regular points for spending?

        • Yes, received regular points just not the bonus points.

      • received and activated my card on 10/07, made my $1000+ purchases by 14/07. 21/07 the 120k points showed up in my rewards

        • That's very strange, I made the purchases on 12/07 and still waiting for the points.

          • @dealsgrabber: You are not the only one. I did not spend $1000 in one go but met it by a few separate purchases around a week and half ago. Been checking everyday only regular points come through but never seen 120k. I don't know if I should give them a call and remind them but there is up to 3 months waiting time…

            • @hohoisme: I am thinking of giving them a call today to check why I haven't got the points when others are getting it. Seems a bit if hit and miss with some getting it and others not.

              • @dealsgrabber: Let me know how you go with them please

              • @dealsgrabber: Any updates?

                • @hohoisme: No, sorry, didn't get a chance to call them yesterday, will try today and let your if I do.

                  • @dealsgrabber: me too! i received my card 14/07, made 1000+ spend by 19/07. got my regular spending points but not the bonus yet

                    • @nicOzBargain: The wait is really frustrating as I am just waiting for the points to be credited and close the card. Spent $1000 on the first day itself hoping would receive the points in a week's time and close the card, but has been 2 and half weeks now and still no points.

Wondering if NAB have changed the process and are now only crediting towards the end of the 60-90 days whichever is applicable for this card. Don't think anyone has received the points in the last 8-10 days

                      • @dealsgrabber: Have you received your first statement?

                        • @Autonomic: Yes, the first statement was generated just after 2 weeks after activating the card.

                          • @dealsgrabber: Update:-
                            14/07: i received my card
                            19/07: made 1000+ spend
                            22/07: Bonus points credited
24/07: Points auto transferred to velocity points

I wanted to exchange NAB points to myer gift card before auto transferred. Now my question is, since it already auto transferred, what is the best value to spend those velocity points?

  • Anyone confirm that you can get this and the Qantas card at the same time?

    • +1

Yes, I confirmed this with NAB live chat agent and they said I was eligible for both bonus points as they are different cards.

  • I have yet to receive my bonus points as well. Hit the $1000 on the 18/7.

  • Made a transfer to flybuys 2 days ago, points still not showing up in flybuys, how long will it take for the transfer?

  • Is anybody having troubles with redeeming? I go through the prompts and it doesn't log into to NAB rewards site to convert. Keeps telling me to go through internet banking, which I have?

  • Has anyone transferred to KrisFlyer?
The confo page said it will take 4 to 6 weeks for transfer. Don’t expect it to be so long.
Any data points on turnaround time from NAB to Kris?

    • +1

Took 2 days for me. ANZ to krisflyer is instant

      • That's quick, transferred to flybuys 4 days ago, still not go through

        • I can confirm transfer to Kris was completed in 2 days. Card closed before NAB charged the AF.

  • Just received 120K bonus points today and redeemed $500 WWS gift card with 19k points left which is not enough for the $100 gift card. Turned off auto-redemption too so it won't convert to VFF.

Charged $95 annual fee in the first statement.

Does anyone know that is it a good CC to keep using for the points and benefits?

    • Did you provide the velocity number and opt into auto transfer?

      • Yes, I linked my VFF a week after the card was activated.

        • Did you opt into auto transfer as well?

          • @dealsgrabber: Yes the regular points from purchases have been transferred every Monday. But I have turned it off after redeeming the gift cards.

            • @hohoisme: Ok thanks, wondering if it has got anything to do with me turning off the auto transfer before every Monday morning.

  • I cancelled this card awhile ago, NAB is slow to register that you've closed the card.

    • Yes, that usually is the case where Citi used to manage these card which are now managed by NAB. Seems the legacy system has carried on.
I've usually found over a month lag in the closing date when I've closed Citi CC, Qantas CC managed by Citi/NAB, Suncorp managed by Citi.

  • Interested in this deal but I already have 3 cards with combined $11k credit limit. So, can I still get approved for this one?
Obviously, YMMV, I know this depends on the income level but just want to know other members' experience?

    • +1

I had 3 other cards with total limit of 41k, and was instant approved for this one. Had churned a few other cards in the two months prior to this too. My income isn't crazy high and I have a mortgage.

      • Thanks for that info, I have been approved instantly as well

  • It's been a week since I've received my card but I haven't received any email or communication regarding NAB rewards. Anyone else in the same boat? Not sure when or if I should add my Velocity FF.

    • You dont need to wait for the email. Instructions on setting up velocity FF auto redemption is here

  • Anyone received flybuys points after transfer, still not go through after a week

    • @excite - Hey Mate, did you get the flybys points yet? For me it's been more than 7 days and yet to receive.

      • +1

Went through after more than a week

        • @excite - Did you have to followup or it appeared by itself. Can you please check how many days it exactly took for you?

  • Has anyone sussed the Amex Velocity Card?

It says 75,000 points, but once you click into the page it shows 60,000? Does anyone know the answer?

    https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers…

    • The Amex site sometimes changes the offer randomly for different people/devices.
If you use an Ozbargain referral for this card it should show the 75k offer.

  • -3

Why this card got such a high vote?
    It only has 70k points?

    • +2

      Only $1000 spend required.

    • +1

Low spend, low fee or no fee. Reward points are credited every week so you don't have to wait upto 3 months for the sign up bonus.

      • +1

Yep. I didn't get charged an annual fee either!

        • they charged af on first statement?

          • @Focus8: I had an existing home loan with them so I think I was entitled to fee free… maybe.

I closed my card after my first statement and there was no AF.

            • @bohn: thanks, i was little bit hesitant to cancel ,mainly for the travel insurance it provides ..
But until tonight received the first statement ,AF included.

I guess it is what it is. Take it :>

    • +2

I've churned a lot of cards and this is easily one of the best.
Easy application, quick approval, low spend, BPAY earns points and counts as spend, fast point bonus payment, decent profit, Velocity conversion is optional.

      It's not always about size…

  • Anyone met the spend around 12-14th July and still waiting for the points? Seems like I am the only one left out.

    • Did you get them yet?

      • Just got them today morning. Not sure why it took almost a month for me when others got it in about a week. I did raise a complaint with NAB on the weekend, not sure if it had anything to do with me getting the points.

  • Would this be a good card as an everyday Rewards Credit Card? I currently have a Citi Rewards Platinum Card (where I don't pay an annual fee).

How do you all churn through cards when you have direct deposits setup through a credit card for various expenses? Do you update them everytime you sign up for a new card?

    • +1

I try to link all my services to PayPal, that way I just need to change it there. Unfortunately for the services that don't do PayPal, I have to change everytime. It would be great if there was a type of card you could keep permanently, that linked to other cards…

      • +1

Europe has the Curve Card which does exactly that along with other neat features, basically a better Revolut.
Wish it would come here, would make churning a breeze.

        • this is what I used Bundll for in Aus.. shame it closed down (and only had a $1000 limit which was annoying).

  • Getting the error points balance won't load, lasted some hours, is this common?

    • Getting the same, been checking all morning. Hopefully they're updating our bonus points? Hit my spend on 26/7.

      • I did get the bonus points just yesterday after meeting the spend I think on 24 or 25th, was just thinking whether to get gift cards or let them convert to the virgin points but decided the gift cards seemed better value for me

        • +1

Just checked again and the points balance is working now. Got my bonus points so will convert to gift cards. Agree its better value than velocity!

          • @xT22: How is it better value?

  • For anyone who's closing the card before the first statement to avoid the annual fee, how do you pay for the credit card as you wont have the payment details until the first statement right?

    • +2

If you close before a statement is issued, they will still issue a statement later on, at which point you will have to pay whatever is owing.

The way to pay it off easily is if you have a linked nab savings account, you can just pay it off that way. Try it, but I don't think you have found a loophole to avoid the AF.

Couple of bits from the letter from nab after closing:

You'll still need to pay for any transactions that haven't yet been posted to your account. This could include transactions made before your account closure request and transactions that don't require our authorisation (e.g. any regular payments that you had set up)

      and

What we'll do: 1. Each month, we'll send you a statement if the account balance is $10 or more, or if any transactions have been processed since the last statement

      • I closed my card before I was charged AF. My first statement generated few days after card closure and there was no AF on it.

        • I applied for my cc on 21 July and got my first statement yesterday already with AF on it. Guess I'll pay and keep the card for a few months then.
