NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points with $1,000 Spend in 60 Days, $95 Annual Fee @ NAB

3390

I was browsing NAB website and noticed this popular deal now available directly through NAB.

The 120K points were awarded to me very quickly (approx ~5 days after spend criteria was met) and I ended up using it to redeem $650 worth of gift cards (before it auto redeemed into velocity points)

Terms & Conditions:
NAB Rewards Platinum Card — 70k Velocity auto redemption offer
Offer commenced on 6 June 2023 and ends 5 September 2023. To be eligible for the up to 70,000 Velocity bonus Points offer (automatically redeemed from 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points), you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, apply for a new personal NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card before the offer is withdrawn, have your application approved, provide your Velocity membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption, spend $1,000 on everyday purchases using your new card within 60 days of opening account and keep you card for over 12 months. You’ll receive an email from NAB after your application has been approved with information on how to provide your Velocity membership number to NAB. Redemption of Velocity Points and the Velocity membership is subject to the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions.

Points will be awarded on a tiered basis – You will be eligible to receive 120,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points when you spend $1,000 on everyday purchases in the first 60 days of opening your account (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria, and will be automatically redeemed for 60,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter and 20,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points after you have had your card for over 12 months (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within the 13th month and will be automatically redeemed for 10,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter). The name of the cardholder must match the name on the Velocity membership number. Offer limited to one total allocation of 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points per Velocity account.

Everyday purchases exclude transactions NAB decides are wholly or partly for gambling or gaming purposes. You must provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to NAB in order to have your NAB Rewards points automatically redeemed for Velocity Points. Each week the NAB Rewards Points that you've earned will be transferred to Velocity Points with 2 NAB Rewards Points = 1 Velocity Point, provided your Velocity Frequently Flyer membership is linked to your account.

Your NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card must remain open and in good standing, and you must be enrolled in Auto Redemption to receive the Velocity Points.

This offer is not available to existing NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card customers or customers who have had a NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card within 18 months prior to applying for a new NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer.

A reduced annual card fee of $95 will be charged when the card is opened and applies for the first 12 months. You will be charged the standard $195 annual card fee in the 13th month of your card account.

  • Thanks OP.

For nab existing customers, after applying, do you click Products > Applications, see the entry as To Do (You have actions on the next page to complete your application.) even after uploading payslips and submitting?

    • Even though it was in 'to do', it still had someone review it.

      They needed further documents.

  • +2

Best credit card deal I've experienced. Took me 1 week to collect the rewards.

I paid rent with bpay and boom 2 days later im 120k points rich. Redeemed for 500$ giftcards and still have 100$ woth reward points

    • Best credit card deal I've experienced

      Same.
Full approval was within minutes after submitting the online application.
The physical card arrived in my hand, within 3 working days,
and the full 120k points arrived within a week of hitting spend criteria.

I'm now torn between keeping the points or exchanging for gift cards,
and wondering which gift card works for me, preserves value, no expiry, etc.

    • Does paying rent with bpay automatically get counted towards the $1000? Read elsewhere in this thread that you need to use a 3rd party service as well?

      • +1

I just paid my part ($1000) of annual concil rates via BPay on Friday (yesterday) and to my surprise got 1000 points, let see if I actually get bonus points in couple of business days! Fingers crossed!

        • +1

Just got my bonus 120k points today! Now need to decide which gift cards to redeem it on.

          • @whatif: so council rate count to $1000 spend?

        • Is that BPAY from the Credit Card "account" itself ?

      • +1

It does count. I got 120k points 2 days after i paid rent with bpay. Total spent at the time was 1200 roughly

        • What is is the process to pay rent by bpay? I think I've only been provided with direct bank details with my real estate agent

          • +1

@Pecco: I only got bpay option from the rea

    • is there any fee/surcharge for paying rent via BPAY on this credit card? I'm genuinely curious.

      • +1

Nope, no hidden fees, no surcharge.

  • Both my wife and I got charged $195 annual fees so we had to complain to get $100 refunded, something to keep in mind but it was pretty clear in their T&C anyway. We signed up thru Pointhack

    • I had to call NAB, just to verify whether my annual fee was $95 or $195,
and when they said it was $195,
I politely complained & nudged them to the Pointhacks deal,
from which they acknowledged and confirmed my 'new' annual fee.

      • It was mentioned in the card T&C , not sure if you have seen it

  • Does anyone know what day of the week the NAB rewards convert to velocity?

    FYI for card cyclers
    * This offer is not available to existing NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card customers or customers who have had a NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card within 18 months prior to applying for a new NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer.

    • +3

From memory, they were converted every Monday.

      • I hope your memory is correct,
because then, I still have a few days to decide
what to do with the points,
ie. to convert or not to VFF

        • +1

I just checked the transaction history and they are redeemed from NAB Rewards portal every Monday at 8.30AM….

          • @ck009: so the best day to spend $1000 would be sat? this way points should show up by tues/wed?

            • @maaz12: Not really….coz….your spend has to be processed (from authorisation to purchase) and then the points have to allocated….it nearly takes 4 days….

  • When does this deal expire?

I signed up to the NAB Qantas 70k CC, can I apply for this one too?
    (NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card)
It seems like I can apply for this one too?

This seems easy, with 1k min spend.

Just waiting to cancel my CommBank Awards Card.

    • Offer commenced on 6 June 2023 and ends 5 September 2023.

      • Oh wow, it's got a long way to go.

I might wait til I cancel my CommBank and then do this one in a month.

1k spend is easy, tho I'm not really aiming for Velocity points these days.

  • How difficult is their application process? Getting sick of the likes of ANZ and St George.

    • 10 minute application, approved 5 minutes later. I didn't even have to upload any files.

      • Same for me :)

    • I have gone through them all in the last 3-4 years,
ie. AMEX, ANZ, St. George,…and I was pleasantly shocked,
at how quickly I got full approval.
It was within minutes after submitting the application.

I mean, it helped being with NAB for many years,
and receiving a employer's salary into the account,
because they didn't even need to verify any salary statements,
since NAB knew the salary being deposited.

  • Just accidentally did this last week. Worked out very beneficial. Getting a friend to do it too. I guess the main thing is to monitor when you get the points so they don't auto-convert.

    • How long after meeting the 1k spend did your nab points appear?

      • +1

Points arrived into VFF account every Sunday. 18/05. 25/05. 02/07. And bonus points arrived on the third week when I met the $1000 spend on the 26th. Just after the second lot of standard points

      • +1

It definitely wasn't the same week I hit the 1k spend. Was either a week or two after. I was checking pretty constantly because I wanted to churn to another card. Instead, basically doubled the gift cards I could buy.

        • I met the spend on the 22nd and still don't have the bonus points in my nab app. Everyone else saying it took 4 days has got me worried 😅

          • +1

@clownfish: I suspect they only do it once per month or something like that. Maybe the other people got luckier with the timing.

            • @slashor: Weird. Now approaching 3 weeks since I met the minimum spend.
The lady I spoke to said on their end I've only spent $850. When I have spent ~1600 already and had about 1200 nab points auto converted to to VFF points over the past 3-4 weeks. She just kept insisting that I've only spent $850 on her system but I already got my first statement ($750) and paid it off and have since spent another $850. She started getting curt with me when I pointed that out so I gave up and just have to keep hoping lol

              • @clownfish: Bit frustrating. Looked at my records. I opened and closed my card within 24 days.

One thing to consider. Perhaps you paid something that doesn't count towards the total? Stuff like paying the government sometimes doesn't count. Only thing I can think of for the price discrepancy.

                • +1

@slashor: Nope, all groceries, restaurants and online shopping :/

                • +1

@slashor: Seems like she was just quoting my current balance, not including the $750 I spent on my first statement

                  • @clownfish: Unless you picked the wrong card. :p Seems just like a wait and see thing.

I feel like the max it should be is one month from the time you hit the $1k spend. Sounds like you might be reaching that but haven't reached it.

                    • @slashor: It's definitely the nabs rewards platinum that I clicked through the points hacks link from the previous deal. I asked her to confirm if I was correctly enrolled in the deal and she said "I'm looking at it right now" lol

I received the card on the 5th, met the spend on the 22nd. And have 650 VFF points that have transferred over due to auto redemption

                      • @clownfish: I just looked at the conditions.

"credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria"

You could be waiting another long while. I suspect it won't take that long though but it could be a longer wait.

  • +1

I got this from the previous deal. Was a fairly simple sign up apart from me being an idiot and using a previous customer number (regular cc churner) to log into online banking and try to see my new card details. Hot tip, your customer number is on the back of your card in the top left. I just needed to complete the online form and then upload one payslip. Was conditionally approved immediately and then fully approved the following day.

Anyway, in order to get your Velocity points, you need to call up during business hours and ask to talk to the rewards team. They will manually transfer your NAB points to Virgin and set up a regular transfer, if you want it, whenever your NAB points hits 3000. I realise OP has said you can convert yourself but the messaging chat inside the NAB app told me that you can only set up the link and initial transfer over the phone. I also don't see what they are seeing in their steps they listed.

    • +1

The advice you got given was a bit poor. You can set-up the transfer within the rewards page. I linked my Velocity number there. I didn't need to speak to anyone. One proviso, you can only do this after your card is activated.

  • Remember we are talking velocity. So if you want to fly overseas most likely using a partner either Singapore Airline. The redemption for Singapore is very limited via Velocity.

    • I hear mixed? My brother is platinum tho, so I can book through him.

It's limited through Krisflyer too, esp our of Australia.

I booked 9 months ahead to get my business return flights.

    • Any of the partner airline redemptions through VFF
(ie. Singapore, Qatar) is limited and 'high conversion' rates.

      • As someone who hasn't had a VFF membership before, what is the conversion rate (roughly) when converting to a partner airline? I tried googling but have only found how many points you can earn.

Currently, got an AMEX and am building up points to convert in the future. AMEX is 2-for-1 to most airline flyer programs.

        • For every 1.55 KrisFlyer miles you transfer, you will receive 1 Velocity Point.
When transferring from Velocity Frequent Flyer to KrisFlyer,
the conversion rate will also be at a rate of 1.55 Velocity points to 1 KrisFlyer mile.
A minimum of 5,000 Velocity Points or KrisFlyer miles per conversion applies.
Please note that transfers cannot be reversed once made.

          source: https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers…

Also, check the "conversion rates" at the Velocity Mileage Calculator page…
          https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/flying-status/m…

As for 'transferring' to another airline,
maybe the target airline has a better explanation of the points required.

    • Can you explain in more detail? I have 200k points with Qantas, but sick of them and want to switch over to Virgin and their partners. What should I consider?

      • +1

        You should consider switching.

  • Not a bad deal for what's on the market ATM.

I miss the Citibank offer for 60k bonus velocity points and no annual fee.

  • Just remember the interest free period for NAB is only 44 days. Not 55 like most other banks

  • +11

Just spoke to NAB customer service team and they confirmed that even if you have held a NAB Qantas Card in the last 12 months you can still apply and be eligible for this card

    • Shit, might give it a crack then. I closed my last NAB Qantas in I think it was either April or May last year…

      • +1

You should be sweet. I closed my NAB Qantas in April this year and they said I would still be fine for this

        • Thank you yeah perhaps they want to deter people from applying who knows

    • Can anyone pls confirm that you have got points for this deal being a holder of NAB Qantas card in last 12 months? I had one 13 months ago but since they changed t&c to 18m, appreciate if someone can confirm so I can go ahead.

  • Anyone know how fast they churn out the credit card from the time you apply online and when it's in your hand? Had bad experience with Westpac (took over a month) so thought of checking if anyone has experience with NAB.

    • +1

You actually can get the digital card added to your google/Apple Pay right after your application is approved. You get a text with the details. Mine got approved in 2 days after submitting my application. My physical card arrived the following week.

      • +1

        Yeah, exactly this.

I was approved 5 minutes after application, and given the details about adding it to my phone.

However, I still need to spend 1k on my CommBank to hit $2,500 spend for the month. I need to look into a hack someone mentioned, just Incase.

        • Thanks @TechNerd / @Adelv.

      • +1

Mine got approved right away. But I can't seem to be able to add it to my Apple Pay despite SMS said I should be able to. Where did you get the unmasked card number? Email, SMS or web?

        • Was it conditionality approved or final? Mine is conditionality approved , what documents you submited?

          • @Modesty: The final screen was conditionally approved but the internet banking shows Done in Products -> Application

I now see the Add to Apple Pay option in the NAB app. So try that.

        • +1

Did you try through the app? I was able to add mine to Apple Pay immediately

        • I added my digital card to google pay via the NAB app. You should see an option to set it up in the NAB app (under the cards section)

  • Sorry, I am a bit confused. Is it mandatory to link the Velocity membership to receive the 120K reward points which will later get converted to velocity points ? what if I dont link the velocity membership ?

    • then you will receive 120k Nab rewards equivalent to $600 in gift card (amazon/jb..etc)

      • was gonna ask the same question. I want to just redeem the nab rewards and not velocity. I guess ill not link the velocity membership then.

        Thanks @BlackorRed

        • The T&C's (as per the post) state:

"you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, apply for a new personal NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card before the offer is withdrawn, have your application approved, provide your Velocity membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption"

So it seems that you must provide it, which to me makes sense as all the comments have noted of keeping an eye on your points and convert as soon as you receive them. This wouldn't be mentioned if it was compulsory

          • @eltito: It says you must provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer number "to have your NAB Rewards points automatically redeemed for Velocity Points." It doesn't say that you must provide it to receive NAB points.

Looks like the best deal around atm - I might go for this and see if the application can be done without Velocity number. I'd rather the NAB points and don't want to be checking my points balance everyday before they convert.

            • @heytherehoney: See my comment below

            • @heytherehoney: As per TechNerd's comment below - it clearly states it. Sorry, I should have bolded it, but it does say the velocity membership number must be provided.

            • @heytherehoney: Same for me. I don't care for the Velocity points, just want to swap for the gift cards..
Let us know how you go!

    • In the terms and conditions it says to be eligible for up to 70K velocity points you must provide your VFF number to NAB to enrol in Auto redemption. I can’t confirm if you will receive the points and you don’t setup auto redemption (I didn’t want to take this risk).

      • The T&C states you must provide VFF number to be eligible for Velocity points and auto-redemption from NAB Rewards points, both of which I don't want.

The question is whether I will get the NAB Rewards points without providing VFF number.

        • have you tried?

      • To clarify any confusion for others reading these comments:

You do NOT need to provide a Velocity FF number or enrol in auto-redemption to get the 120K bonus NAB Rewards points (confirmed from my experience with this card).

  • Any rewards cards around at the moment with bonuses with no annual fee?

    • CBA Ultimate awards (if you spend enough)

      • Wow they charge a $35 monthly fee if you don't spend $4000 a month? And still charge you $30p.a for QFF points.

I mean I easily spend that. But I'd be so annoyed if I'd be short one month to be slugged that

    • Coles MasterCard and Kogan, but the Kogan $500 rewards dropped back to $300 last week.

  • I opened a nab Platinum card just a few days ago, does anyone know if i can take advantage of this offer even if I didn't sign up my card through the nab Platinum card velocity page? Like if I put in my VFF number or call them up can i get the bonus points?

  • Why not ANZ rewards black - 180k points/90k velocity or at least 800 gift card or 720 cash, fee cost 375-150 = 225.
NAB cost is $95, so ANZ costs $135 more but provides additional $200 in gift cards

    • +1

$1000 spend only for NAB, and the process to get approved for ANZ is painful

    • Try dealing with ANZ's credit card team and you will understand why not.

  • so you pay extra 195$ in the following year for 20000 bonus points?

    • Yes, only if you decide to keep the card for another year.

  • Has anyone flipped a pair of these NAB Rewards cards (eg: one in your name, and then a separate one in your partner's name), but used the same Velocity account and had points credited?

    • +1

I think the velocity account name needs to match exactly. Just use two accounts and transfer the points over.

  • In the NAB Rewards section - https://rewards.nab.com.au/en/home.html ,
there's a way to redeem the NAB points via Webjet.

When you click on the link, it takes you to a Webjet page,
but in top right-hand corner, shows your NAB points balance
and how much money that is worth, to spend on Webjet flights, hotels, etc.

  • Do I have to keep this card for 12monthd before cancelling it or can I cancel it right after receving the points?

Also when will the $95 annual fee be charged?

    • +2

No you don’t have to keep the card for 12 months, you can cancel straight after you have redeemed the points and received gift cards (or after it has been redeemed into velocity points)

The $95 fee is charged in your first statement

      • Thanks mate. So essentially we receive approximately $600 worth of gift cards - $95 fee into our pocket?

        Any minimum wage requirement?

        • +1

Yes, you basically get ~$500 value for spending $1000. Not sure about salary requirements

          • @TechNerd: Hi TechNerd, my card got approved, do I need to wait for the physical card to arrive and then link my VFF number to the card in order to receive the reward points?
