NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points with $1,000 Spend in 60 Days, $95 Annual Fee @ NAB

3390

I was browsing NAB website and noticed this popular deal now available directly through NAB.

The 120K points were awarded to me very quickly (approx ~5 days after spend criteria was met) and I ended up using it to redeem $650 worth of gift cards (before it auto redeemed into velocity points)

Terms & Conditions:
NAB Rewards Platinum Card — 70k Velocity auto redemption offer
Offer commenced on 6 June 2023 and ends 5 September 2023. To be eligible for the up to 70,000 Velocity bonus Points offer (automatically redeemed from 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points), you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, apply for a new personal NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card before the offer is withdrawn, have your application approved, provide your Velocity membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption, spend $1,000 on everyday purchases using your new card within 60 days of opening account and keep you card for over 12 months. You’ll receive an email from NAB after your application has been approved with information on how to provide your Velocity membership number to NAB. Redemption of Velocity Points and the Velocity membership is subject to the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions.

Points will be awarded on a tiered basis – You will be eligible to receive 120,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points when you spend $1,000 on everyday purchases in the first 60 days of opening your account (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria, and will be automatically redeemed for 60,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter and 20,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points after you have had your card for over 12 months (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within the 13th month and will be automatically redeemed for 10,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter). The name of the cardholder must match the name on the Velocity membership number. Offer limited to one total allocation of 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points per Velocity account.

Everyday purchases exclude transactions NAB decides are wholly or partly for gambling or gaming purposes. You must provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to NAB in order to have your NAB Rewards points automatically redeemed for Velocity Points. Each week the NAB Rewards Points that you've earned will be transferred to Velocity Points with 2 NAB Rewards Points = 1 Velocity Point, provided your Velocity Frequently Flyer membership is linked to your account.

Your NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card must remain open and in good standing, and you must be enrolled in Auto Redemption to receive the Velocity Points.

This offer is not available to existing NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card customers or customers who have had a NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card within 18 months prior to applying for a new NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer.

A reduced annual card fee of $95 will be charged when the card is opened and applies for the first 12 months. You will be charged the standard $195 annual card fee in the 13th month of your card account.

Unrelated to this promotion, this actual card seems to give barely any benefits for the $195 annual fee?

    https://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/nab-rewards-car…

Benefits of paying $195? You can redeem points and use a concierge service.

Imagine the poor normies who pay this fee.

So I applied to this last night (12/9) and had the fastest ever approval.
After I applied I got an instant email saying conditional approval but needed uploading of documents. But literally couple of minutes after that email, I got another one saying I'm approved even though I hadn't even set up online banking let alone upload a document.

Does anybody know how quickly the physical card comes through, and if there's any way to add a virtual card to my Google wallet for use in the mean time?

Also how on Earth do I add my velocity number? The application never asked me even though I applied through the velocity rewards card link.
Can't really see a way to get to the rewards section through online banking.

    • I was approved on Monday and got the card by Wednesday.

  • Was approved and received the card, but unable to activate it in the app, despite it showing up in accounts (as credit card). Live chatted them and was told they put a block on my card until I can show them 3 months of business bank statements (contractor). Has it happened to anyone else?

  • I was approved in August, already recieved the points and have been using my CC.

Randomly I was locked out of my account, was asked to visit a local branch. They didn't provide any information after having me there for 2 hours but atleast I was able to log back in again only to notice that my CC was missing. I called customer service and was told that my CC was closed by the NAB security team and after follow-ups they are not providing any information.

Has something similar happened to anyone else before?

    • This hasn't ever happened to me, but occasionally cards have been blocked temporarily. Well, all i can say is at least you got the points before this happened. Perhaps you can get them to refund the annual fee in this instance.

  • Has anyone had issues logging into the NAB rewards? When I click go to rewards store through NAB online banking, it doesn't have my account already logged in and when you click login it just sends me back to NAB online banking

Applied and was almost instantly approved..
Turned on the auto redemption to velocity, upon activation

Met the spend within a fortnight. Awarded the 120k points within 7 days of meeting spend (that day, I was also charged the $95 annual fee), locked in $600 gift cards. Wish (woolworths, dan murphys, bws, caltex/ampol fuel), Coles (egift card, but only usable instore), amazon gift cards all around 10400 points per $50 voucher.

Cracker deal.. Will pay off and close and ask for annual fee pro rata refund, no idea if I'll get it.

    • Did you ever add your Velocity frequent flyer number?

      • I didn't.. I now keep getting prompt emails to add it but of course, the credit card is closed for the next 18 months before I churn again

  • Does anyone know if there is a referral bonus for this card? Any incentive similar to AMEX for getting someone to sign up?

  • Is it advisable to turn on auto redemption or not? Thanks.

    • +1

If you want to redeem points for some gift cards then NAB rewards looks better than velocity.

  • How much points do you need to travel overseas for 2 person? Syd-Thai, or Syd-Viet, or Syd-Sin

  • +1

Accepted within minutes but I don't have anything in mind to buy.. or bills to pay yet. Maybe I can pre-pay a bill so it's in credit?

I guess $500 is still better than nothing!

  • Has anyone's card stayed on their account for a really long time? I cancelled two weeks ago but still see the card sitting there.

    • +1

It will eventually disappear, they leave it available in case you need to look at transactions. I think last time I cancelled a CC with NAB it stayed in my app for a month or two

  • FYI Bonus points received today (3 business days after hitting required spend), no fee charged yet. The link to the rewards store takes me to a 404 page not found so I can't even login to redeem the points. Maybe it'll magically work after my fee is charged :D

Just curious, if I don't redeem any of my points now will I still keep the 120k or will I lose some due to the velocity thing? I'm not a velocity member so obviously don't have it linked to my account.

    • I got the points too but I want velocity and tomorrow will be 16 days so the fee will come up tomorrow. what should i do?

      • +1

I don't know anything about Velocity points, I recall reading there was a setting somewhere (maybe under your card on the app) that you could toggle redeem points to velocity automatically. Might be worth a read through all the comments

  • Met spending requirement last Tuesday (14/10); transaction relating to final purchase settled on Wednesday.

Points came through this morning (24/10).

  • Does anyone know by paying your ATO bill with this card if you’d meet the minimum spend requirement?

    • My BPay ment to ATO earned bonus points but I had already bought some gift cards to get to the minimum so not sure. I don't think ATO should earn points usually according to their terms.

    • Just use ZipPay to pay the ATO amount - I have done this in the past and it has counted as minimum spend.

      • was there any surcharge for using ZIP to pay ATO ?

  • +1

60k Velocity points received, account close and annual fee successfully avoided. Thanks op!

    • Nice, Did you close account by making a phone call or online? Cheers

      • +1

        Chat in the NAB app

        • how long did it take to get your points after reaching spending limit?

          • @furakoph: Card activated 17 Oct
            $1000 reached on 25 Oct
Took 3 days for NAB Rewards portal to appear
Bonus points into NAB rewards 27 Oct
Velocity auto paid 30 Oct (Mondays 9am Eastern)
Velocity points into my account 30mins later
Account closed via chat 31 Oct

            • @Food: Annual fee charged?

              • @rhabdoviridae: My experience: i got the points, used them for gift cards, closed the account with $0 owing at the time of closure, and that night NAB added the annual fee, so the next day the amount owing was the annual fee amount.

                • @JohnSy: me too!! I got charged af as well eventho i closed the acc

              • @rhabdoviridae: It didn't.

                • @Food: And you still have not been charged for it im assuming mate ?

20% bonus velocity points on auto transfer for NAB but you need to manually transfer X points in Dec and Jan to be eligible for Bonus points.

  • +3

I still have my 120k points in my nab rewards. If i turn on auto transfer to Velocity am i eligible for the bonus 20%?

    • Also keen to know

  • +1

I have already set up auto transfer few months ago. Does this automatic add 20% or should I cancel and create auto transfer again?

  • Was anyone able to successfully get approval for this and the nab qantas?

    • I had the Qantas card 2 months ago, received the bonus points and card is now closed. I have also received the bonus points for this card.

      • What was the timeframe you waited inbetween cards?

        • +1

Just over a month, but I did have both cards open at the same time.

      • No my question was around applying both at once.

  • Applied on Oct 31, Received verification call on 1 Nov and was advised I should receive an update in 2-3 hours. Gave a call today(02 Nov) and the customer care has no clue on what stage the application is at.

Been a customer with NAB for over 12 years and not a smooth experience like others had here(where the applications were approved within 30 mins of submission)

  • Has anyone been able to auto0-redeem to Velocity and receive the 20% bonus?

  • +1

    https://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/offers/velocity…

You’ll also enjoy a reduced annual card fee from $195 to $45 in the first year.View Disclaimer1

First year annual fee reduced to $45 although the fine print still mentions $95.

  • Does anyone have any idea whether nab rewards points would still transfer if a card is closed before the points are transferred (NAB rewards available but weekly transfer still 6 days away)?

    • Can you not manually transfer ?

      • Good point. Trying to avoid this to get the 20% bonus points (won't be transferring manually for an extra 2 months to take advantage of this otherwise).

        • Same boat as you. Got my points today and statement not generated yet.
But I'm worried I wouldn't get the 20% bonus as per the terms the bonus points is not eligible for any cards that were issued during the promo period and auto transfer was enabled on them.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14495403/redir

So, I am considering paying $95 for the first year fee and getting extra 12k points by manually transferring 60k in first month and 30k in the next 2 months.

see my comment here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14541358/redir

  • Thanks for pointing me in this direction. I'll aim to manually transfer and cancel the card to avoid the annual fee.

    • you cannot avoid the annual fee as you need to manually transfer for 3 months either from NAB rewards or from any other participating reward institutions.

      • Rewards points are valid for 60 days after card closure. Just clarifying how to access the rewards site with them tomorrow after the card is closed. If so, transfer Nov, Dec and Jan all possible within this time frame post cancellation.

  • Applied for this on the weekend and still waiting on approval.
Uploaded payslips and even had a phone call confirming some numbers but no update a couple of days on from that.

Been a while since I've done a new CC application and this is bar far the longest approval/waiting time, and all for a $6k card, whereas previously ones like ANZ have been instant approvals on cards with much higher limits. Haven't had a NAB card before that I remember, but do have a Citibank one.

    • Did you have to connect velocity frequent flyer to get the 120K nab reward points?

    • How long did it take for them to finalise your applicaiton after submitting payslips?

  • How do I time everything so I get the gift cards before the auto conversion? Is it true that it's 5 days (business or calendar?) before the points are awarded and Monday might be the day it's autoconverted to velocity points?

I don't fly much these days and gift cards would be way more beneficial.

    • A few claim that they didn't even have to add their VFF number to get the bonus points (although keep in mind these comments were made a couple of months back). I have added the VFF auto redemption just in case, so NAB has no excuse and cannot give me a hard time about receiving the points and complying with their requirements.

I did call NAB yesterday but the rep was useless and couldn't send me a written email confirming that adding VFF is optional, all she did say was that she believes it was optional but does not have the "authority" to confirm that via writing.

Its Monday 9 AM when the NAB rewards points get auto converted from what I've seen.

  • Tossing up between this and the Amex VFF offer going round… or both.
Has anyone been able to transfer and get the 20% bonus VFF points that Velocity are offering until end of Jan?

  • I signed up for the NAB Qantas Premium Card 70k CC.

And I got the bonus points and the card was closed around 3 months ago.

It seems like I still can apply for this one for the deal 70K Velocity? (NAB Rewards Premium Card).

This seems easy, with 1k min spend.

    Thanks a lot.

  • How likely is it they extend the closing date beyond end of Jan? Looks like it's already been extended at least once? Have a couple of other cards I need to collect points from and close before I apply for this…

  • Where do I provide them with my Velocity frequent flyer number? I have received the card and activated it - however can't seem to find where to give them my Velocity details? Thanks

  • Anyone got approved recently? Is it compulsory to add the velocity details? I don't wanna miss out on the points but I'm leaning towards the rewards points.

  • I had a NAB Qantas Rewards Premium card last year so I would be eligible for this?

    • +1

      Yes.

      • Thanks

      • So the NAB Rewards Signature Card and the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card are treated differently for the 18 month exclusion period? (I know ANZ does this for their Frequent Flyer and Rewards cards)

        • +1

Yes correct, both ANZ and NAB have separate cool off periods for their Rewards and Qantas Cards.

  • +2

Cheers for sharing op, got points today, mulled over decision decided to just go 550 in gc's, and auto convert the rest.
Took about 5 business days from hitting min spend.

  • So does 80,000 NAB Rewards Bonus give you $550 in gift cards?
and it costs $45 for yearly fee right?

    • $95 for first year, $195 from 2nd year on.

  • I applied for the 120,000 NAB rewards points card on 20/01/2024, received the card on 24/01/2024, spent $1k immediately and then recieved the points on 30/01/2024. Manually transferred them the same day, paid off the card and closed it a day or two later without being charged the annual fee. I also got 12k bonus points from the Velocity bonus campaign. One of the easiest cards ever to churn.

  • FFS, had an issue with my rewards login and finally sorted that out only to find they gave me 60k points instead of 120k (meaning only 30k Velocity). What a pain in the ass, have to call them back again.

  • I made a purchase of $1500 3 days ago. Today I received just 1500 points. So, 1 point for every dollar. Is that just the normal rewards points for the purchase and I will get the bonus rewards points in a few days?

    • +1

Yep that’s how it worked for me

      • +1

        Thanks for letting me know.
