Was buying a couple of gift cards from Coles the other day for presents, and when the guy came over to approve it, he asked me “is someone asking you to pay them in gift cards?”

  • Possible to pay for Apple Care+ with gift cards?
For iPad 10, if that matters.
iPad bought from Officeworks on 30th Nov. Haven't started using it yet.

Only if you go instore to an Apple Store and use the cards without redeaming them into your Apple account

      • I can do that.
I believe there is a time-frame it needs to be done by? Purchase date or iPad activation date? And I would need to have the iPad with me for the genius to inspect?
Sorry, I'm just lazy right now. Pretty sure answers to these will be found on Apple website?

lol. I don’t think it’s clearly stated anywhere on their site

            @rpb: Geniuses!
            /s

@alterego13: It’s funny I’d say they don’t write it up clearly because they don’t want to you to buy AppleCare+ at a discount but they are really generous of warranties so I dunno.
Eg i took my daughter’s iPad in today as she had a small crack in here screen. I didn’t want it to get bad and have her cut herself. Ready to pay the $65 fee for replacement. The Genius said wait the home button is a bit ‘clicks’ we’ll replace this for free because of that.

              • @rpb: That's good to know.
It's my daughter's iPad too, for school next year. So I'm expecting some bumps/cracks etc.

Oh and you only have a certain time period to buy AppleCare+ after it is first activated so don’t start it up until closer to the date of this sale

Check one of the previous Apple GC deal - there was a pretty comprehensive discussion on this topic.

      TL;DR Yes

      • Ok, thanks.
I did post this question before in one of the threads but the offer was expired so not many people responded.

Yes, you can only do this if you go to a physical Apple Store with your iPad. A staff member will need to inspect the device for existing damage before allowing you to purchase AppleCare+.

You can pay in one of two ways:

      1. Take the unredeemed physical gift cards in with you and use them as the payment method.

      2. Redeem your physical gift cards onto your Apple Account Associated Balance, then use an iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later using the same Apple Account to pay via contactless on your Apple Wallet. (I believe you can also use an Apple Watch to do this as well.)

I took my MacBook Pro in a week ago to a physical Apple Store and paid for AppleCare+ using option 2 with my iPhone. (The staff member actually specifically asked me whether I wanted to use my Apple Account Associated Balance to pay for AppleCare+, and I had not said anything about doing that at that stage.)

Thanks @WookieMonster for explaining in detail. Much appreciated.
I will be using option 1 for sure. Not an iPhone user. Only iOS devices we have is an iPad Pro (for work) and the new iPad 10 for the school.

  • Did anyone pay with gift cards for additional services like battery replacement? I guess there shouldn't be any problems with that, just checking.

    • Once you load them up to your Apple account, I don't see why not.

    • I paid for a screen replacement at a physical Apple Store last year using three Apple gift cards. The staff member had to use a device to scan the redemption code on each gift card to redeem them.

Nowadays, paying using an Apple Account Associated Balance via a compatible iPhone (or Apple Watch, I think) should also work.
