@letmesee: Castration and circumcission aren’t the same..

Regardless, i condemn them both. Can you do the same?
No, you’d rather play this whataboutism game. You just wanna win this argument, not solve it

Don't think I saw the same outrage from the Christian conservatives

Firstly, I am neither a Christian nor a Conservative but yeah I know what you are talking about.
And yes, nuke those criminals for all I care. I am not the Conservative spokesperson, why are you telling me all that?
You wanna falsely box me into something so could come at me like this??
Why not stick to the topic instead?

If this was a discussion about pedophile priests, I would be just as disgusted as I am towards non-priest pedophiles. Ofcos.
I reckon so would the majority of the conservatives.

@Gervais fanboy: sadly its not trendy to think woke.

so thise sheep will agree with this crap.

even when you present them with fact like you tried to do here.

A bit OT, but a "literal pedophile" is attracted to pre-adolescents. Hebephilia is attraction to early adolescents, say to around 14.
After that it is more legal than medical.

            • @Gervais fanboy: Which paedophiles are you referring to? Can you call some of them out?

Yes libs daring to spend their time with their loving families while a bunch of right wing incels watch a movie called "What is a woman?" hoping that it's a documentary that provide info on how to convince a woman to let them touch them without paying.

Almost every left wing publication uses the nuclear family setup as an evidence of structural racism.

Reddit has sold its soul to the woke mob much like other corporates.

@dBagDealer: They don't care about the woke, It's just a marketing strategy. Look at how well it performs here.

        • +10

Just a technical point - websites can't ban sometime by MAC address, as MAC address information doesn't leave the local network segment. Only IP addresses work, and even then it's only semi effective, as it's relatively easy to change IP if one is banned

          • @liamo: The facts should not get in the way of a good narrative.

        • +9

I had my neg revoked this morning because my coherent argument got 21 downvotes. Not mad about it, but definitely skewed.

OzBargain is not setup for political debate, nor should it be. I'm honestly surprised this thread hasn't been comment locked by mods.

          • +8

@BradH13: Doesn't really feel organic at all when some of the most universally celebrated bargains max out at 300-400 upvotes. "Have National Geographic channels for free" got about the same upvotes with no negs. "Here literally have $10" posts get 600ish. Feels like a vote stacking campaign whipped up from the dregs of the internet.

            • +9

@Phanatic: Agree with it being inorganic. A few loud sealions in this thread rage baiting everyone, and them seeming having a US centric cultural background (how many Aussies don't know home and away??)

I'd like to add (unrelated to the bargain) that after going through the comments on the post I want urge everyone here to delete all social media.

Im left leaning but even I found myself getting riled up by both extremes on social media. I found the most days that all social media were just showing me rubbish that is only there to polarise people with little to no genuine substance.

I have now deleted everything except messenger and have moved back to only getting news from reputable news sources (left and right leaning) and found myself much less anxious about the world and has done wonders for mental health.

      • +5

Couldn't agree more. I'd say social media is only important for 2 things. Keeping in touch with loved ones, and running a business.

        • +2

And cat videos, don't forget the cats.

      • +1

I want urge everyone here to delete all social media.

Agree 100%. Social Media is poison.

moved back to only getting news from reputable news sources

They are just as bad. There is no such thing as 'reputable' news sources, everyone has an agenda, whether it be the ABC, Guardian, Sky News, Fox News or whoever.
Try switching off ALL media, social, mainstream, corporate, everything, even if just for a few weeks and see how you go. You will be surprised how much of it is pointless garbage that offers no value to your life and it's all designed to keep you hooked.

        • +2

I understand that but it is still good to get some form of news and see what's going on around the world. I agree there are agendas everywhere but with 'reputable' news sources you can form your own opinion using some reasonably truthful infomation for multiple sources.

With social media I found news/opinion were pushed upon me (through algorithms) instead of being able to form your own.

I personally think the majority of people don't realise this when using social media. It was only after deleting them all that I had realised how warped my view of the world had become.

          • +1

            @jmmelb:

it is still good to get some form of news and see what's going on around the world.

            Why?

Let's assume you watch some form of news daily, car crash today kills a mother and child, earthquake somewhere kills thousands, plane crash there kills hundreds, famine over there kills thousands etc.
Day after day you are absorbing a bias of bad news stories which have no real impact on your life, but which contributes to a subconscious perspective that is invariably negative.

Just try it out. The world won't end if you switch off for a month. Instead of a 'Dry July' maybe try 'media-free June' and see how it works out?

You might find that it isn't actually good for you at all.

          • @jmmelb: I just wanted to follow up the previous reply with something you said that I missed the first time:

It was only after deleting them all that I had realised how warped my view of the world had become.

This is my exact stance on MSM.
It's like giving up sugar or salt for a while, when you come back you'll wonder how you ever ate so much of it in the first place.

      • +3

        lol…'reputable news sources'

    • +19

I watched… and agree with the overall narrative. It’s presented in an open and respectful way. The author is non-judgemental and allows the viewer to reach their own conclusions. This doco should be mandatory viewing in schools, but will never be and we all know why. As a father of two reasonably grounded teens I am appalled at the levels of political advocacy our kids are exposed to whilst at school. It’s outrageous that a government body - education - can sanction the delivery of sexual politics as educational material when it clearly goes way beyond that. And nobody says a word. It’s not about making people who are a little bit different feel included and safe anymore.
Now this branch of education is prejudicial against any alternate perspective, increasingly focussed on normalising perversion, indulging in petty and pointless categorisation and the worst part… all about encouraging vulnerable and naïve humans to make choices about their own identity without them having access to a balanced spectrum of material to inform those choices.

The woke crowd - or sanctimony set - have this conceited view of themselves as morally superior just because they accept left and far-left ideology. It’s dumb - and as history has proven - often quite dangerous.

Ignorance and bigotry live just as comfortably on the left as they ever have on the right.

Australians are suckers if they fall for propaganda cooked up in American right-wing think tanks and pushed by a gross alt-right extremist who believes in child marriage (especially for young girls).

      • Well put.

      • -2

Australian Americans, UK and europeans all full for this crap the propaganda is thick just look at the lies for the Ukraine people are stupid enough to believe Ukraine are the good guys, they don't mention the corrupt government or the money laundering, and the genocide in the Donbas region for 7 years, the enemy is the Ukraine, not Russia and people keep feeding Ukraine money. And the transgender crap is another load of crap. Its more crap to decrease a population worldwide, that is already very much on its way to decreasing. Humanity is going to doom itself if population growth and breeding don't occur.

        • +1

So tell us again about how Ukraine invaded Russia.

          • -2

@jackspratt: you should do your research, and not take anything the main stream media tells you as fact.

        • Wow, such big brain. So smart.
Australia has commited genocide before, so maybe Russia invades Ukraine, and then Ukraine should invade Australia?

          • @Ughhh: the biggest offender of genocide is the USA but they are good at hiding it.

            • @kungfuman: So go invade them?
When you think violence is the only answer, it shows a lot about you.

              • @Ughhh: I don't think war should be encouraged, but the USA are in the business of war they profit off of it, and we all know anyone against the U.S. or anything you do that they don't like or agree with, they will go to war with you. Just look at 9/11 an orchestrated piece of work from the U.S. govenment, to get Americans to back wars that should have never happened, killing there own citizens and blaming other countries for it, so they can go to war with them, thats the real USA, the propagranda doesn't stop there it goes as far back as the vietnam war, and even the 2nd world war. The more you dive into this rabbit hole the more unbelievable the facts get.

                • @kungfuman: I'll leave you to wallow in your 9/11 rabbit hole - in the meantime, can you explain again how Ukraine invaded Russia.

                  • @jackspratt: did you even read my original comment? I assuming you didn't or else you would have known one of the reasons why Russia invaded, I state one of the reasons why Ukraine was invaded. Also you can do you own research on this, its freely avaliable.

      • Also 100% right the brian washing of people needs to stop people are stupid enough to believe anything.

    • Is Popcorn one of the genders that falls under the + part

There is no indication of why this is a bargain.

We can but they are slowly finding their way into Oz too sadly. See how gun control legislation are being rolled back

      • +82

See how gun control legislation are being rolled back

As a firearms owner, I can confirm you have no idea what you are talking about.

        • -2

Hang on, aren't silencer laws and number of guns one can own laxed in various states after what it was in the initial 1996 legislation?

          • +14

@MKBHD: No, it's still practically impossible for a recreational shooter to own a "silencer", even though most other reasonable countries they are actually mandatory and seen as impolite not to use, UK etc. However our left wing media has got the population so riled up over guns here even a "silencer", which doesn't actually make a gun anywhere near silent, it's just like a muffler for a car, is seen as something that is dangerous and needs to be banned.

As far as the number of guns, I don't know that there was ever restrictions on that in 1996, just the type, at the end of the day you can only use one at a time.

            • +6

@Binchicken22: As a registered gun owner myself, I would like to say you are technically incorrect. Whilst illegal and highly inaccurate you can in fact use more than one gun at a time.

I agree with everything else you've said.

            • +2

              @Binchicken22:

However our left wing media has got the population so riled up over guns

It's absolutely crazy how unhinged the average punter gets as soon as you mention 'gun'. The worst part about it is the the people shouting the loudest know the least about the subject matter which should automatically disqualify them from the conversation (see above with the use of the word 'silencer').

You only have to see how many times they confuse simple terms like 'semi-automatic' or 'assault rifle' to see how little they know about it.

            • @Binchicken22: A 'Silencer' is only useful if used as part of a weapon system designed to minimise noise. Using a silencer with supersonic ammunition is like ordering a meatlovers pizza and expecting the accompanying diet coke to counteract the calories.

              • +1

@2ndeffort: Yes, but like ordering diet coke (instead of full sugar coke) with your pizza, it does still make a difference. Yeah you'll still hear the supersonic crack, but it still helps reduce the explosive noise.

But yeah, a "silencer" with subsonic .22 ammo is about as close to "Hollywood" style silencer as you can get.

      • +4

So where are the Oz bargain deals for the AR-15?

        • -5

Not sure, ozbargain is another monopoly and actually pretty autocratic so you'd have to ask them we're mere puppets

          • +8

@MKBHD: Wow, you have somehow managed to hold contempt against a site that’s allowing for a ‘free’ exchange of ideas and helping 1000’s to save money every day.
They do this all for free, don’t sell our information to anyone and there’s pretty much no ads anywhere. And you are still not happy, lol
Gotta say that you have atleast consistently been wrong (imo) about almost everything you have said here

        • +1

          And bazookas…

          I want a bazooka.

      • +2

I'm not aware of any changes or even potential changes to gun control legislation. Which is a damn shame as I could decorate my bar nicely with an assortment of fully and semi automatic firearms.

          • +8

            @axyh:

It’s criminals who gain the most use out of silencers

            Complete nonsense.

“Silencers” are useful to park rangers, pest controllers, farmers, vets and wildlife rescuers to name just a few. Anyone claiming otherwise is a liar or ignorant and parroting lies. They make firearms closer to being hearing safe, not silent.

The overturning of the ban just meant that professionals with a genuine need could apply for a permit to acquire one, which is rarely granted, it did NOT make them easily available to recreational shooters.

Of course the fearful gun banners will rarely tell the public the full context, they just want people to support their ideology.

        • I'm pretty sure you can have a weapon rendered inert and certified then legally use it as a display item. I remember being in Messes in the Army where there were historical weapons that had been 'acquired' during war, had been rendered inert legally and were on display above bars etc.

      • +9
