Was looking for a Food Steamer as my present one has given up after getting used for about 6+ years, did some search and found this, looks like the cheapest price for getting a 9L food steamer at present based on my limited research. As the price is over AU $39, I can only assume that the delivery is free even for non prime members. If you are looking for a food Steamer like me, hoping this this deal will help you, but your money, your choice. I am not sure when this deal will end.

Edit : 6:41 PM now and the deal ends in another 5 hours and 18 mins roughly. Also according to 3 camels, this is the lowest price against this particular model.

      • Where to get dim sims nowadays? All my local supermarkets have gotten rid of Marathon dimmies and just have Asian dumplings now.

        • coles and woolies do em, the ones iv had are not the best. chuck a few on a plate to build up a meal but wouldn't buy them for enjoyment alone

Yes I can - the glass looks sturdy

      • +3

No glass. The baskets are BPA-free plastic.

    • has metal and plastic. Both are known to be sturdy.

Edit: just had a closer look, this might not be eligible for cash back.

  • Would buy if it was glass, but it is plastic. Not a fan of leeching hot plastic into my meals.

    • If it leeches into your meal, it should disappear after a few uses.

Yes, the fact that microplastics have been detected in the lungs of all people tested must mean there's actually no plastic left in the world because it's all in our lungs.

        Nice logic.

        • +1

microplastics have been detected in the lungs of all people tested

I'm not trying to be flamebait, but think about it: How can microplastics end up in your lungs if they leech into your food? Do you inhale food?

The majority of microparticles found in lungs is polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polyester. Unless you shred your water bottles and sniff them, it indicates that they come from textile.

          • -4

@bio: Inhaling is another way you ingest them - that's just the one that made news recently. It's very well-known you're ingesting it through your food, and it is well-proven that leeching from plastic occurs when it is heated.

            Do you doubt that?

            • +2

@Wolfenstein98k: All I'm saying is the miniscule amount of BPA or whatever that leeches into the food is tolerable as those chemicals can be metabolised (i.e. they don't bioaccumulate).

Airborne microplastics are a different issue and must be taken seriously.

              • -2

@bio: BPA is only one of scores of compounds you ingest from plastic, particularly when it's heated.

There's growing evidence it's not "minimal" either - but this is, most likely, your largest exposure point. And heated plastic is when it degrades and leaches the most.

  • I’m hesitant about using BPA free plastic, is it better to spend abit more for metal version

    • +1

Probably, can't know for sure. But that's good enough for me to avoid heating my food in plastic.

  • The salter 7.5L 3 tier version was $19 on mydeal recently, so I'm not sure $39 is a great price….

    • I bought that, water always bubbled into the steamer tray, piece of junk.

      • I've never had that problem, maybe you are filling too much into the reservoir?

        • I tried everything but it always bubbled up, even with no food in. I think it was faulty and was boiling to too high a temp, they refunded me anyway.

  • Veggies infused with micro plastics ! Great deal!

  • Crazy to think this is similar in price to a bamboo steamer in the same capacity range.
    .

  • can this steam frozen dumplings?

  • Missed out.

I was thinking of just getting the traditional bamboo dim sum thing for steaming on wok. But this seem more effective.

I wonder which is better for steaming dumplings.

    • +1

Traditional bamboo is more versatile but they do break down eventually and can get mouldy if you don't dry them properly. I use both, this for quick and smaller dishes but would use the bamboo steamer for whole fish etc as it doesn't fit well in the oval basket.

Nitpicking, you get water droplets back in the dish which is less prominent using bamboo steamer. Can be an issue for some dishes otherwise.

      • Cheers

  • What’s the advantage of this over the gas ones?
