Price match at Apple and combine with 15% off gift cards to bring the price down to $439.45 delivered.

Call 133 MAC to place order over the phone, or head into an Apple store.

Just successfully did this myself. (i.e., with unredeemed gift cards, not added to my Apple balance)

Alternatively you could add the gift cards to your Apple balance and buy it for $519 ($441.15 after 15% off) via the Apple Education store if eligible.

Can't beat it at this price point!

Edit:
Might be able to get for even cheaper via The Good Guys ($499, down to $424.15) if you want to try price matching on Sunday.

  • Does Apple price match all products?

    • +6

Yes. But in the store a lead has to approve it and they can be strict about it. Depends on how nice you are, don’t be demanding about it and be respectful if they say no. Not all specialists know about it so just ask if they can please check with their lead to see if they’d be able to.

  • +3

Is that really a deal? It's last Gen, should be $499 …. I guess apple did bump it up $50 at some point.

    • It's pretty similar to the latest 10th gen iPad but a lot cheaper - that's why I went for it. Save a few hundred for effectively the same thing.

      • +4

While it’s certainly better value than the 10th gen, there are quite a lot of differences between the two: https://www.apple.com/au/ipad/compare/?modelList=ipad-9th-ge…

        • +2

There's definitely some differences for sure! I did quite a bit of looking into it and 10th gen didn't seem worth it (this is the general consensus as well) - if okay with spending the extra you may be better to just go for an iPad Air instead. Obviously depends on your needs. For a tablet with a reasonably large screen, snappy performance, and very long battery life for watching video, this will do the same job at a couple hundred less. I was looking to spend the least possible for this.

Or stock up on apple gift cards and wait until Sunday to price match with TGG at $499.

    • +1

That's awesome - I probably would've waited to try save the extra $15 if I could.

      • +1

I only just saw the advert or would have posted it earlier in the gift card thread.

    • Nice, have stocked up on GCs, will wait for this! Thanks :)

    • I don’t get it, you can use Apple Card’s at the Good Guys?

      • +1

CheapGit is suggesting price matching at Apple with TGG

    • Do they have anything on the Gen 10 coming up?

    • +1

I need to see the rest of that page 😂

      • Been out and only just saw your message.
See you've sorted your curiosity with the online edition :-)

  • +2

for 439 it's well worth it I suppose?

    • There is no Android tablet that comes close for the price.

  • Where I can do price match ??

    • +1

You have to call Apple or go into an Apple store I believe. I just got them to put the order through and redeem the gift cards over the phone.

    • +2

Call 133-622 then select option 1

  • Sorry for asking stupid question. After buying gift card or digital gift card. How I can use it at Apple Store ?? Thanks in advance

    • +2

You have to call Apple or go into an Apple store I believe. I just got them to put the order through over the phone and redeem the gift cards over the phone.

Note the gift card do seem to take a few hours to get emailed through via this deal

Alternatively you could add the gift cards to your Apple balance and buy it for $519 ($441.15 after 15% off) via the Apple Education store online if eligible. I don't think you can redeem Apple balance in store or over the phone.

      • Back when I worked at the store you could redeem Apple Store gift cards in store obviously. Since they changed to the new system where iTunes Store gift cards and Apple Store gift cards merged into Apple Gift cards I’m not 100% certain but I’m quite sure it is would continue to work the same way.

I’d can check with my friends there if needed.

      • So if you price match over the phone can you pay from your apple credit or you pay with unredeemed gift cards?

        • +1

I paid with unredeemed gift cards. I simply quoted the codes over the phone which the guy entered on his end.

Didn't want to test redeeming them to my Apple balance, but the guy said you can't use your Apple balance to make purchases in the physical store, so I assume that means you can't use your Apple balance over the phone too.

Your experience may vary though. I see plenty of comments in the 15% off gift cards thread saying the same as me, but there's also a comment from @chobani4lyf saying they did use Apple balance in physical store?

          • +1

@JimmyLmao: Thanks so much for the clarification. I will keep some cards aside in the case I try to price match over the phone.

  • Thanks

  • Where do you get 15% off apple gift cards and can you use the cards on the education store?

  • Ive got one and there's a noticeable delay of the cursor if i link a b.t. mouse and try to use it like a laptop. Yes its not a laptop but still…

  • Is 64gb enough for your daily works? New to ipads and not sure about the space taken by OS and other essential apps.

    • +2

Only if you do not install anything additional. 64GB is normally for kids or old ladies to watch youtube and browse news.

    • +5

It's all up to your personal use-case and the way you prefer to manage your storage.

It costs a lot of money for a small amount of extra physical storage on Apple devices. I personally opt for the lowest storage variants and use the hundreds of dollars saved to pay for iCloud storage each month, shared across all devices in the family - plus you get the benefit of being able to access stuff on all devices, anywhere in the world, all regularly backed up. Other family members can't see your stuff unless shared to them, of course.

So that's documents and photos/videos in Gallery sorted.

Apps - depends what you need to use the iPad for. The more apps you want/need, the less space you have for other stuff. Keep in mind you may not actually need many apps on the iPad if you just use your phone for them.

Games - it depends how many you play and what they are, some can take up a lot of space. I'm not a fan of mobile games personally, but it's an important consideration!

Movies/TV shows - it depends how often you'll have access to WiFi. You can easily delete stuff off and put new content on, with it all stored cheaply on your PC, or via 'make available offline' functions of streaming apps (and deleting as you watch, making room for new stuff). You may be able to use SD card readers, not sure, I need to look into that further if I ever need to consider it.

I haven't been able to find an exact answer online about how much space is reserved for the operating system on iPad 9th gen, but it seems to be in the realm of 15-20GB. So perhaps 40GB or so of usable space remaining. Which could be around 40 hours of locally stored movies/shows to watch.

      • +1

how much space is reserved for the operating system on iPad 9th gen, but it seems to be in the realm of 15-20GB

Pretty spot on: on mine, it says 8GB for iPadOS itself and 6.5GB for system data, though if you add the standard apps that come as standard (and keep them all), it probably would be around 20GB in total.

        • Awesome! That's really handy to know, thanks for the confirmation.

Out of interest - does the total of everything add up to 64GB? Or is there 'lost' storage space in the same way that a 1TB SSD is only 931GB in reality.

          • +1

@JimmyLmao: Don’t know about that, there’s quite a list of app usage data (which I don’t plan to add up), but wouldn’t expect any such ‘lost’ space to be significant. Just noticed now the system data figure seems to have dropped to 4.5GB (from 6.5GB last night).

Also FWIW I’m using less than half of the 64GB so not feeling cramped at all yet (as opposed to when I had the 32GB 7th gen).

            • +1

@fraxinus: Ahh no worries, I thought maybe it gave you a nice easy subtotal to quickly add up. I will investigate in a few days when mine is delivered and there's not many apps on it!

Good to hear 64GB is working out for you. I only have 64GB (lowest storage variant) on my iPhone 13 Pro and it's been absolutely fine thanks to iCloud offloading all my pictures/videos. So I don't foresee any problems with the iPad at 64GB - just when I travel I need to plan ahead with what content I want to watch and make available offline/store locally on iPad for the plane.

      • Yes, I would choose to pay for iCloud or Onedrive too. But remember to add the cost of the internet which most of us already paid

      • +1

Thanks mate for the detail answer.

    • I have been using 6th Gen 32 GB purchased via Telstra deal and only 25 GB is being used.

  • How would you price match at TGG if their price is going to be lower?

    • +4

You take the TGG price to the Apple store, get them to charge $499 instead of their current price, and then use the discounted gift cards to make the purchase

  • How about JBHiFi?

    • +1

You could absolutely price match at JB Hi-Fi and pay with discounted gift cards that work at JB if you've got them, like TCN/Ultimate. That was my original plan but the discounted Apple gift cards came first. Not sure when the next 15% off TCN/Ultimate gift cards will be, the last few rounds have only been 10% off via rewards points.

  • +3

Amazon dropped it to $499 already, no need to wait till Sunday! :)

    • Awesome!! I wonder if I can get Apple to refund me the difference lol

  • +1

I purchased this iPad on September 2021 for $499 from the apple store and now it's march 2023 and $517 is considered a deal? Am I missing something?

    • +1

The RRP is $549 now. Inflation I guess

  • +1

I just purchased through Apple (over phone) with a 15% off gift card and price matched to $499, bringing it down to $424.15. I'll be travelling overseas in a couple weeks so will also claim the GST back. Thanks OP for the heads up! Score!

    • Hi @usedbloom can you open the box / unpack it before claiming GST at airport?
And before you come back, will you throw away the box and declare it when you back?

      • +1

Yes, you can open the item before leaving the country. You just need to be prepared to take the item with you in carry-on in case they ask to see it at the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) counter when you claim. If you claim the GST refund when leaving Australia and reenter the country, you must declare that on your incoming passenger card. From personal experience, if it's only a low value you've claimed they won't ask you to repay the GST or inspect. Check out the TRS website for more info:

Used the gift card deal and purchased via AOC education store. Good deal - thank you.

  • +2

Amazon updated their price to $499, absolute bargain!

Just be careful not all staff knows Amazon AU is the authorised seller. I was lucky the lady next to the specialist I talked to knows this and did the price match for me.

    • Today I went I to an Apple Store and two ppl gave me the same spiel. We can only price match brick and mortar shops. I showed them this comment and it got me across the line. The guy went to check and he said as long as it’s sold and shipped by Amazon apparently they can do it

Big W have a few in stock for $500.00
    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/apple-ipad-wi-fi-64gb-silver…

You can use the above gift card to receive an extra 5% in value (ie. $25) to spend on something else.

    https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/big-w-promotional/p/bigw…

I just ordered one. I would double check the local stock before ordering.

Instead of the gift card, NSW has a back to school program. So it might be possible to apply a $50 voucher (no idea how this works though.)
Noting: The Premier's Back to School NSW Vouchers program provides 3 x $50 vouchers, totalling $150 for each eligible student.

  • +1

why is this still expensive ? I got this for $465 a year ago from a previous deal

    • Inflation I guess. Also the RRP is now $549

  • +3

Thanks OP, was a very breezy process!

Price matched JB-Hifi through Apple @ $499 then discounted GCs. Delivery scheduled for tomorrow.

  • Education store doesn't appear to have any major obstructions to non edu people. How do they check? Do they ask for a copy of your homework? 🙄 Can I use a uni email to qualify and pay with a non uni email account with gift card balances?

    • Don't take my word for it but I don't think they're that strict, maybe random checks but not every single order placed. I'd suggest typing 'Apple education' into the ozbargain search bar and having a read through previous deals/comments relating to this, to try and get some more info :)

  • +2

No trouble price matching over the phone with Apple, paid with gift card no trouble. $424.15 for an iPad, awesome! The guy on the phone wanted to know what the deal was as he has been doing price matching orders all day long!

    • +1

Haha! Did you tell him that OzBargain sent you?

  • +1

I bought one 425 dollars. Thanks for the post.
