I dont know why they put 12, 16gb on mobile phones but tablet ram is 4,8 at best (majority)

    • Agree

    • +9

Not to mention crappy processors. The G88 needs to die already.

      • +2

Biggest gripe I've got with my m10 gen 3, it cannot handle any multitasking.

        Thankfully it's for the kids

      • -1

It's a budget tablet. I'm not sure why you would expect a high-end or even mid-range SoC at this price.

        • +4

Except it's not as far as Lenovo is concerned. They chose not to release the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad 2024 outside of China and that uses a Snapdragon 685 that wipes the floor all over the Helio G88. Obviously as a grey import it has been cheaper than this and it's what Lenovo should have released here.

Unusually Lenovo China tend to make the more powerful Qualcomm tablets China exclusive and give their overseas counterparts the weaker MediaTek variants.

Still if they insist on using MediaTek in the west. How about using a more modern CPU? The Helio G99 is on the lower end of the mid-range CPUs and would yield a much better experience (particularly multitasking) at little cost. The age difference between the two is 2021 vs 2022.

          • +3

@Clear: It's not just because. Qualcomm's licensing fees are much cheaper for CN-models, because they want to compete there against domestic requirements. It's a big difference.

            • +3

@dualcore: My point still stands. Lenovo are releasing the shit models into Australia, while China retains the better tablets.

Since you're a Lenovo employee, are we getting the new Gaming Tab? The global version of the Y700.

            • @dualcore: WARNING!⚠️ if you purchase this tablet be ready to disable the handwriting constantly. there is no way to disable the handwriting permanently so that it stays off… permanently. it is an extremely frustrating tablet. I know, I own the wifi version & I'd imagine the only difference is the one in this deal accepts a sim card.

    • +5

It's not. Lenovo has a higher end tablet with 16gb RAM. It's just not 259$.

    • +2

How do you expect a tablet to have 12 or 16 GB of RAM at this price?

    • They do have higher Ram and processor tablets, it's just not in this price bracket.

  • How does this compare to getting something from aliexpress?

    • +10

You wont have to wait months for a refund when it stuffs up and they mess you around then ask you to post back to china

      • +2

If it's faulty, you can send it back to Aliexpress locally. It's free postage.
I had this experience with Redmi Note phone. After a bit of correspondence with the seller, I asked Alixpress to step in and they were promped to help. Got the refund within a couple of days.

    • +2

Local warranty and less wait time and supporting Australian companies

      • -3

Preach brother. I keep telling people to buy from Harvey Norman but they keep flaming me for some reason.

        • +2

Some of us are happy to take the risk for a considerably better device. AliExpress Big Save returns are super simple too. Print the supplied prepaid label and away you go.

Perhaps if Lenovo decided to bring the higher end devices to China it wouldn't be so bad. Even the lower end ones from China that are better than this ewaste don't make it here.

          • +2

@Clear: I just said I tell people to buy local, doesn't mean I buy local.

            • Sent from my Alldocube iPlay 50 Mini Pro
        • Some people really hate short easy return processes I guess

        • +3

Harvey Norman originally did not pay back their JobKeeper benefits after posting huge profits. They later repaid only $6m of the $22m they received after posting a profit of $1.183bn before tax.

I wouldn't support companies just because they are Australian. There are bad Australian companies too.

          • @tof: Stop being jelly of Gerry.

            • +1

@CptnObvious: @CptnObvious Not jealous. What logic did you use to assume that?

You mentioned you get flamed for telling people to buy from Harvey Norman for some reason, so I shared the most likely reason.

Just remember that JobKeeper benefits were your (public/tax payers) money going straight to corporations to make even higher profits without benefiting you or your community.

              • @tof: Oh you are taking this conversation seriously.

    • It'll have the international ROM on it straight up, instead of you having to mess around trying to flash it to get rid of all the Chinese stuff.

    • The China version won't have Google Play which you can install yourself but crucially - and I only found this out after I bought it - for whatever reason the Chinese version don't have multiple user support so if that's important then buy this one.

Think the China version also has a better processor compared to this as well

    • aliexpress - just forget about any warranties etc.

    Plus 5% off first order.

Lenovo make reliable tablets, but even for a budget tablet where those memory, processor & screen specs might be acceptable for some users, ONLY a single USB C port with NO support for DP Alt Mode is a huge Achilles' Heel for unsuspecting buyers.

    • Can you suggest something with DP alt mode? It doesn't seem anywhere near as common as I'd hoped.

      • I can't sorry. I just thought to mention it as it's a frustrating trap for the unsuspecting in so many tablets & Chromebooks these days with just a single USB-C data only port. i.e. No wired screen mirroring or streaming for you! I found out the hard way. If you can't cast or mirror over wi-fi (compatibility, processor or bandwidth issues), you're screwed.

      • Recent global Lenovo models include Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 and Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus.

        • Thanks, Clear. There's a pretty big price jump up to those models. Can you suggest anything at a lower price point? 7, 8, 10, 11 inch are all fine. SD card slot would also be great. Am I dreaming to think I'd get those things for less?

I don't care about gaming. I just want to use VLC for 1080p movies, browse the web, and read some PDFs. DP alt mode is a must though.

          • @Uncle Bert: Dunno about DP alt mode, but Lenovo only charge an extra hundred for the P12 ($370 including the pen) when it's on special.

How do you go about getting a school email to be able to access this deal?
Also, i wanted to buy 2. 1 for each of my kids. Could i buy 2 from 1 edu email?
    Cheers.

These are good enough for young kids yeah? Lol

  • Lenovo tab plus also seems like a good deal, bigger battery and better screen

  • I just used my old uni email it didn't seem to validate it

  • Anyone able to vouch for this as a kiddy's tablet simply for watching Netflix, YouTube, playing some games. daughter is almost 4 years old and currently using my wifey's iPad Air. plan on putting it in the car as well on a front seat mounted tablet mount

    • I rate blackview as a tablet brand for kiddos for what you're looking to do. Value is there. We've bought a tablet less powerful than this, same storage, $150.

Previously bought a similarly priced and quality lenovo to this one, had it 6 months before leaving it on the roof of the car one day. It was overkill. Cheaper blackview does the trick.

For you're going the budget route, I'd recommend https://www.amazon.com.au/ALLDOCUBE-1920x1200-MediaTek-Octa-…. Basically trading 2GB less physical RAM for the G99 processor. Everything else is basically on par. Currently $210 with the available coupon and shipped from Amazon.

    • +1

was looking at this earlier, how's the software and general support on the alldocube?

      • The fact it's through Amazon is a big bonus. Can get the same tablet from Aliexpress for the same price. Alldocube has been around the block for a WHILE. Not the "Best" experience but for the price you can't go wrong. Also should be global Rom with Playstore out of the box.

  • Can I get this if I have a 5 year old in primary school and how do I prove it?

  • +1

I can't find anywhere on the page that says the pen is included other than one of the images? Would anyone be able to confirm please?

There's this under on of the images which also confused me.
"Lenovo Tab Pen and Lenovo Tab Pen Plus not included"

    • +1

I’ve done an online chat with them in the past about this and they’ve said that the pen is included.

I haven’t figured out if it’s actually any good for drawing though.

      • That's groovy, thank you for replying!

Thankfully I'll mostly be using it for notes and pdfs, etc. Been working off an iPad mini but my eyes are struggling with it…

  • How do you get this deal from a non edu email id. Is there a workaround?

  • +1

Thanks OP, seems like a perfect wall tablet for home assistant, which i've wanted to get for a while. I don't need the pen, or case, or LTE, or the 128GB of storage but it's still the cheapest 11" option. It seems like 8GB of ram is probably a good idea for a home assistant wall tablet just to make sure there's nothing too crazy going on with closing apps due to running out of RAM.

I also compared to the lenovo tab plus which is probably overkill for home assistant, but seems like a great deal at $329. Other competition is the samsung tab a9+ 64GB, which is 259 at catch at the moment (officeworks price beat), but only comes with 4GB of ram and half as much storage.

Don't forget another 5% off with coupon code B2S25 .

  • Deal updated, price drop to $246.05 with muzzamo's coupon

  • Absolute rubbish. Super slow and freezes often. A huge regret. Wait for an apple, google pixel or Samsung tab to go on sale.

    • One of the YouTube reviews mentioned that this was fixed after letting it run through a couple of software updates.

      Hopefully this is the case.

  • +1

    Mine arrived today.

I was having a bit of buyers remorse after discovering that the lenovo xiaoxin pads often come up here at a similar price with much better performance, but with the drawbacks of aliexpress and needing to modify the chinese rom to run google play (the global roms suck). If you are reading this, take a look at them and make your own decision.

Performance was pretty ordinary at first boot, however became noticeably better once the software was updated and it had settled down a bit. It's no M series apple device, but its's snappy enough. The screen is vibrant and high enough resolution too.

It comes with the 80% charge protection features etc that make it a good candidate for a wall mounted display too as my use case is for a home assistant display.
