  • Silly questions, how many cards you can use when you trying to purchase a apple product in store?

    • +9

Don't you just load them up into your apple ID?

      • +8

        I wouldn't suggest that.

The commenter is asking how many gift cards you can redeem instore, and you currently cannot redeem an Apple Account Associated Balance instore.

        • Right, so in store just keep it as is but online add it to apple account?

          • +5

            @impoze: Yep, you're correct.

The Apple sales hotline - 133 MAC - also accept Apple Account Associated Balance as a payment method.

I know Apple in the US has a way for you to redeem an Apple Account Associated Balance instore (via Apple Pay), but it is not available in Australia yet.

        • +1

          I wouldn't suggest that.

I wouldn't either. However, less risk of card being hacked.

In any case, how easy is it for your Apple GCs to be hacked while you hold onto them (i.e. do not assign them to your Account Balance)?

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Yeah this happened to me recently. Redeemed the cards to my account thinking they could just use that balance instore but they said they can't.

So instead, they suggested I call Apple Support and try get the balance restored back to the gift cards they came from. Luckily, because I still had the physical gift cards in the bin, they were able to do this and then I went in store to purchase my item using them.

Long story short - don't redeem the cards to your account if you want to use instore. You can only use the Apple credit online for now.

            • +4

@jay889344: Hmm, perhaps you could have just done a click and collect, and used your account balance that way…

              • @JohnSy: Couldn't do…was a postpaid mobile phone sign up in store. You can reserve the phone to complete sign up/purchase of the phone in store, but phone has to be paid for then. Can't be bought before online at the discounted rate

          • +3

@DoctorCalculon: I would say you would have to be extremely unlucky if you had an Apple gift card code stolen for you.

As always with these kinds of discussions, there are two factors to consider:

            • How many theoretical gift card code combinations there are
            • How quickly (and easily) it is to guess-and-check different gift card code combinations

I will not publicly mention how Apple gift card codes are structured (for obvious reasons), but there are a lot of potential combinations. It would be far more likely for you to win Powerball Div 1 than to have someone randomly guess an Apple gift card code in your possession. I would not say the same about Coles Gift Mastercards or Coles Mastercard gift cards…

In terms of guessing-and-checking, you only have limited options, including:

            • Using the gift card balance check tool on the Apple website.

            • Attempting to apply a gift card code in the online checkout when purchasing an item.

            • Attempting to apply a gift card code to an Apple account

All options (at the least the ones I can think of) require you to go through Apple themselves, and require you to either log into an Apple account or provide basic contact information (e.g. name, email address, phone number, address). Obviously, for the latter, you could just put in dummy information, but I would like to think that Apple would move to quickly stop someone from attempting to guess-and-check more than a handful of potential gift card codes.

@WookieMonster: your gift-card fu is truly next level. And specifically for Apple gift cards, is unmatched in OzBU.

Thanks for sharing — I don't need to feel like my gift cards are in any imminent danger of being stolen.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks WM for such an insightful answer.
You have put my mind at ease. :)

        • Who still buys stuff in store?

    • +11

My advice is if you want to really buy instore, go instore do you research on what you want to buy load all the gift card to your Apple ID then buy online using your credit and collect from store or get it delivered.

      • I an able to input 5 gift card (the rainbow one) when purchasing online to be picked up at store.

        • +1

Thats if you redeem them as a regular gift card, you are better off adding the gift cards to your Apple ID first, that way you can use your Balance at check out. TBH I think this is the best thing apple have added giving the ability to use the credit across the entire apple eco system

    • +1

      8 is the limit

      • Really? I bought the new 12.9 iPad a few weeks ago with a large number of $100/$200 physical gift cards (as $200 was the MAX I could get at my JB) in Apple Chadstone. Definitely more than eight. Maybe staff discretion?

    • -2

The comments on this thread are so out of control 💁

From the Apple website - "You can use up to eight Apple Gift Cards for one transaction at apple.com and the Apple Retail Store."

      • +9

Well, it’s out of control because so are the Apple rules.

8 gift cards per transaction. However, unlimited per account balance. So effectively you can load them up in balance, and use it that way, bypassing the limit.

Similarly, no balance usage in store. But you CAN apply balance to click and collect: in store…

The “can” and “can not” are pretty blurry with Apple.

    • 8 cards if I’m not mistaken

    • you can combine gift card in store. 5x $20 in one $100

  • +2

Great discount but what a pain you can only get $100 maximum

    • +1

      Hasn't stopped many people before

    • +2

Go another store and get another set of 5?

    • Probably run out quite quickly. If it was 15% as points with max 5 per flybuys card then more chance of stock remaining.
Either way not making special trip just for $15, but hope is in stock if I happen to go to a Coles during the promo.

    • +3

Yeah true but since you can only get the $20 denomination card that’s a lot of running around if say you wanted to get a new phone or computer. Not saying it can’t be done, just a lot more work than the variable loads or higher denomination cards

  • Yass!! In time to pay for my SG withdrawals. Anyone here using Social Good??

    • Whats that?

      • Crypto version of Cashrewards/Shopback. However they changed their free model to subscription recently which is a con for most.

  • +1

Basically $100 for $85. Much better to get the Ultimate cards and switch at Jb (if 15% comes back).

    • Switch a gift card with a gift card?

      • Yes

    • +1

Not all stores allow you to purchase GCs using GCs.

      • Fair enough, in Sydney most Jb let you do it.

  • 15% off my income tax bill, fantastic!

    • -2

How're you paying it will apple GC?

      • +3

        Old joke… please ignore. :)

      • -4

mate, a little sense of humour would help you do that.

    • +3

2017 called, they want their lame joke back.

    • +2

I have a man from India named Shane on the phone right now helping me to buy Apple Gift Cards to pay off crippling tax debts that I was unaware of. People are so nice.

  • Hopefully someone can answer this. Can Apple Gift Cards this be used for Netflix / Disney+ subscriptions through iTunes? Can it be for 1 month, or does it have to be for 12 months?
    TIA

    • Yes. Once gift cards are loaded into your Apple credit balance, any subscriptions made through your Apple account will automatically debit from your Apple account balance before going to a registered credit card etc.

    • I have my Disney+ subs paid for through Itunes credits which I obtained from discounted iTunes gift cards such as this deal. I always had mine set at 12 months auto-renew.

    • +2

If you are looking at Disney+, this is the way:

    • +1

For Netflix, only if you are already currently subscribed through iTunes. See Netflix Billing through Apple

    You're welcome DB, any day!

    • +2

What a top bloke. Who would neg you for such a thing?

      • +2

Sorry — that was me. I thought I was HamBoi69’s bestest OzBargain friend. The betrayal is like a virtual knife in the back

        • +1

Owwww. Dang, now I have to wait 6 hours in the Emergency department.

  • +1

It’ll take forever to buy hardware

    • At least you’ll be able to visualise how much money you’re spending. With your giant stack of $20 gift cards, I mean

  • can this be used to purchase Iphone/ipad?

    • +2

Yes, through the Apple online store.

  • So funny !

  • +1

How many coles I need to visit to buy enough for iPhone 15 pro max

    • +1

      A lot

    • +1

Might need to spend the eqv. on flights or fuel tho.

    • If you got 5 cards every time , you need to run almost 19 times for 14 pro max 128g.

      • +3

Do you need to run? Can you just walk?

        • +1

Even better — get one of those mobility scooters. Run over anyone in front of you, collecting their gift cards on the way

    • I think I should just wait for the 20x point deal . 10% only but less hassle

  • Not found in the catalogue… be interesting to see if this is legit tomorrow at the stores.

  • Can this be used to pay for iCloud storage subscription?

    • +2

Yes, load it onto your Apple ID and it’ll use your balance first

      • +1

        Thanks!

    • why not go with Turkey

      • +1

        I like Chicken…

  • when you plan to buy a new mac and need $2000-sh GC..

    • Yeah I'm waiting for the 20x drop for a new iPad, too.

  • +7

Will 5 be enough to buy the apple microfibre cloth

    • 5 will buy you a couple of threads

  • This 15% will soften the blow on the incoming price increase on the next iPhone 15 release https://www.macrumors.com/2023/01/10/iphone-15-pro-to-be-mor…

    • Keep in mind when Apple releases they tend to use the AUD/USD rate at the time of release to set the price. Now AUD is much higher than when 14 was released so may not see an increase.

    • According to a rumor from an unverified source on Weibo,

Looks legit. Perhaps use code “To be updated” at checkout

  • +5

Rmb to pay with your HSBC debit card for an additional 2% cashback, since it’s under $100 if buying the max 5 cards per customer

    • Does exactly $100 work for the 2% cashback? Never got to try the exact amount.

      • +1

No, it must be under $100. Hence $99.99 is the max but you still get $2 back with $99.99 tap purchase (due to rounding)

    • Careful with this one.
I got my HSBC card locked after doing this too many times for the Ultimate GCs.

      • Were you able to unlock it in the end or did HSBC completely blocked your card?

        • They stuffed me around for a day pretending there were no blocks on my card.
Then an email came through overnight saying my card has been locked due to suspicious activity. It was just an epic waste of time before I could get it unblocked.

  • Had read most answer, thanks guys.

  • +1

I can't even buy the Apple Brooch (from Big Mouth) with this absurd limit.

    • +1

When you consider how greedy the average person is, this seems a very sensible limit

  • -1

Can you purchase these with a coles giftcard?

  • I was going to hit up Coles today. But I can wait until tomorrow for a chance getting a few of these.
$ off is better than the points off you get with the flybuy promo, although that promo covers all of them (including variable).

  • Just bought an iTunes card today at full price

    • Didn’t even know you could still buy iTunes gift cards. That’s a collectors item for sure

      • +2

        You know what I mean.

I'm a relic and it's the first time I've seen them not as iTunes gift cards.

        • I'm a relic and it's the first time I've seen them not as iTunes gift cards.

I can only imagine now many of the you had stocked from the past. :)
