[Pre Order] Apple iPhone 16e 128GB $949.99 Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

165

Seems to be the cheapest I've come across. Save around $40 or so.

This is a preorder but I think it'll be the price afterwards as well. Phone will be released officially on 28th Feb (this Friday).

People were expecting this new model to be around a similar price to the SE so there's a lot of disappointment from that aspect.

Oh these comments are going to be good…

With all due respect, whilst you get Apple Intelligence for the 8 users worldwide that use this feature, you are MUCH better off getting a refurbished iPhone 14 Pro for even cheaper than this, or a used iPhone 15 Pro or a refurbished iPhone 15 Pro for a little bit more. 60hz in 2025 at $1000 should be in the Crimes Act.

    • +4

Yep, not to mention that Apple “intelligence” is a half baked mess and virtually all its functionality can be had for free using Google’s suite of far superior tools. And on any iPhone too, not just the latest and greatest.
This phone is astoundingly poor value.

      • +3

        Features, sure - agreed.
Just remember that you also give up all your privacy with Google as well….so that's the extra hidden cost.

        • +2

Ahh yes, no one ever mentions Googles zero privacy for it users, but happy to throw mud at Apple. Having used both over a few decades, Apples privacy and security leaves Google/Android for dead. Apples slow and steady to get things right, shows why they are the best selling company, and Apple AI won’t be any different.

          • @BatmanAU: Same - used Android since the "Nexus One" phones in 2010, but they have gone so far backwards from their "don't be evil" days.

            • -2

@TheMoose: Absolutely, pay cheap get tracked and advertised too, pay a bit more and get way better security and less tracking.

              • +2

                @BatmanAU: Pay a bit more… i think you mean, a lot more.

                • -3

@eggaz: Well, pay cheap, get cheap. I would prefer to pay a lot more for security and privacy.

            • @TheMoose: There were so many asterisks next to the "Don't Be Evil" sign that they ran out of room on the wall and said "To hell with it!"

              • @Elyxar: After Larry & Sergey checked out, it's been all downhill since then.

Eh I don't know. It's more expensive than I hoped but the pricing is more competitive in Australia vs the US (US$599 vs $799 vs $999, or AU$999 vs $1399 vs $1799) for 16e, 16 and 16 Pro respectively. It's hard to justify an extra $400 for what amounts to a telephoto camera and magsafe. And by buying the 16e rather than an older model you get a newer chip and additional years of software updates.

Personally I have an iPhone 16 Pro and a 175Hz monitor at home and barely notice the difference between that and my 60Hz work screens and iPad - though a lot of people think it's a huge difference so I must not be very sensitive to it.

    • After doing some research, I've been tempted to go the used route myself to upgrade from an XS. Would you consider $1k for a used 15 Pro to be a bargain? Might wait until they unveil their 17 lineup later this year based on the rumoured 120hz upgrade on all models, though 🤔

This would have been decent for $800.

I paid $1,349 for a open box iPhone 15 Pro 256GB (unactivated, foreign model though - still have AppleCare+). Pretty good value IMO

    • I admit iPhone 14 Pro is a much better buy at the moment, but given A18 + 8GB ram on 16e, it will likely have an extra 1-2 years of iOS support at least. Also give it another 6 months the price for 16e will certainly drop.

If I'm buying a phone for years to come, 16e will last longer. (But no, I won't vote up for this - $949 is still way too expensive. $750 is the right bracket)

I reckon if OW price beats this then you got a decent deal on your hands

    • +1

901.55 AUD after price beat is still not good value. Make it $749 RRP and maybe 🤔 hmm and ahh.

  • +26

Sadly, the "e" stands for expensive

    • Or 'eviscerated'

  • +6

No interest in the device but the price compared to the US$599 plus tax is very good in Australia

Not an iPhone guy, are there any deals like the sign up to a plan and cancel at jb or harvery for iphones?

    • +2

You find out and let us know…

    • 0 bargains in 12 years? Yeah let me get searching for you…

  • +4

Went to preorder, it charged the credit card and then the whole app crapped out. I’m out $949, there’s no confirmation, there’s no record of the order, there’s no support at this time other than sending chat message that they say they’ll get back to maybe within three business days.

I guess here I go calling them Monday, what a mess.

    • Don’t worry it’s Costco always give your money back. I agree their app is crap

  • +2

Pretty obvious these are priced to have more incentive for the market to go for the regular 16. No display out and magsafe for example, which is weird.

  • +1

FYI - iOS 18 uses AI to scan camera and entire photo library. Bye bye privacy.

  • -3

Damn this is a trash phone.
Apple's almost throwing in the towel as Android pulls ahead.

  • +4

No Ultrawide Band chip for those that use AirTags or devices with FindMy Precision finding support. That was an instant dealbreaker for me and I’ll be waiting for the 17 series.

No Magsafe either and wireless charging is limited to 7.5w.

  • +7

    $1000 for a 128gb phone with 1 camera.

Not a bargain. Stop giving this unethical corporation money.

    • Unethical… yep, other manufacturers are ethical in their assembly of phones

  • Lol wtf iPhone e for 900 bucks? Yeah big no thanks Apple. This is not even a pre-order deal.

    • Yep watched this one, basically this 16e is just another ripoff with so much cutdown, rather just pay more and get 16 instead, but sure lots will fall into the usual Apple trap …

  • +1

i got a iphone 13 mini for 200 bucks, way better than this

    • care to share where?

      • facebook marketplace

  • +5

Went from a Special Edition to just an Edition.

    • Haha. Taking the special out of special edition!

  • +1

60 Hz display, for near a thousand, hell no !

    • +1

be thankful for apple being brave to sell a midrange phone at a high end price

    • Wait until you find out they’re selling their big screen non-pro iPhone 16 at… up to $2150 for a 60hz phone lmao

  • I don't know about that apple intelligence thing cos I am not a iPhone user. But can't we get some 10% JB gc every other week from supermarket, at least save you around $100, and those 20x apple gc too.

  • +1

    $949 for a 128GB phone isn't much of a deal.

  • I would go for 16 over this, and I guess when apple AI is finally available / able to function, iphone 17 has probably already been out for a while.
I was on the market searching for an affordable iphone with usbc and saw this the other day. I was into it until saw the specs and some info published by apple and other youtubers.
It is disappointing that apple finally ditched the low end customers.

  • I'll keep waiting for the SE4…

    • That’ll be even worse value based on current trajectory

  • Is 128gb of storage enough these days?

  • tbh, only the top line up is worth is with iphone nowadays , and that is, you are willing to pay that much, or you are in the eco system already, (watch, airpod etc). otherwise getting a normal version or this SE version is just stupid. so much better choice on android sides. i wish i can experience some android phones but i love the watch and airpods, also do enjoy how polish the iOS feels, otherwise android for sure.

  • I wait for the 17 to be on the shelves this q4 and get a refurb 15 pro for about the same price as this. It a comical phone for the non techie iPhone users
