  • Get Peleton bike … oh wait .

    • +1

You could hook a peleton up to a dynamo to recharge your ebike battery.

  • +3

Is this a high yield investment bike?

  • +4

Quiet a decent bike, belt drive and internal hub gear mean virtually maintenance free drive train.

80Nm mid-drive motor is adequate, battery is on the smallish side, but great for casual riders/commutes doing short distances, even a good thing not having to lug a large battery/weight around all the time.

Though a little primitive relying on speedo magnet, which suggests cost saving considerations.

Would seriously consider if in the market for a light duty e-bike.

    • +9

Speedo magnet could be considered a bonus to those who wish to modify it to adjust speed cap.

      • Good point, didn't think along that line.

      • can you elaborate on this? How do I adjust speed cap ?

        • The sensor sends a pulse for each wheel rotation. So you slow it down.
The simplest hack would be just halve the frequency, so speed reading and distance halves.
A simple flip-flop would do it.

          • @bargaino: is this done by a bike shop or would I need to buy some device to do this? What's a flip flop? (sorry I know nothing)

            • @liongalahad: A $1 part from aliexpress. Do you know anyone who knows anything about electronics? It would be beginner level.

              • @bargaino: Thanks I'll look into it

                • @liongalahad: Hi, were you able to find anything on this?

                  • @mmd: not yet. Im enjoying the bike but I'd really love if would keep helping past 25 kph
I'll go ask in some electric bike shop if they can do anything about this. But I don't want the speedometer to give the wrong speed.

  • +1

This is a pretty bicycle, it's a stealth electric which I think is impressive.

  • +4

Slap an AMG sticker on it for extra HP.

    • You can also paint the brake calibres red or yellow for extra stopping power.

      • +1

that only works in combination with a brembo sticker

  • +1

The battery it comes with is a 36v/7ah but the spare for $805 is 32v/10Ah. Why?

    • +1

Possibly they figured that if you need a spare, then you want to go the distance and therefore a 43% extra boost.

Surely they are physically the same size, just that the one comes with the bike has less cells in it. A bit like buying a new printer. :D

  • +5

I jumped on it - I have been looking for an ebike for ages and didn't want to cheap out and be disappointed. this looks like a great deal.
Now to figure out how to cover the Mercedes logo haha

    • +1

Put an AMG sticker over it. :D

  • +4

    Theft magnet

  • Pretty good Deal!

  • Sooo… how do we get the North American model?

    • +5

Move the magnet from the wheel spokes to the back of the crank arm. #hacks

      • Legend. Simple solution for an anti-consumer problem. Can the battery and therefore range be upgraded without original manufacturer components?

  • Does this bike only assist or can you use it (on flats) without pedalling?

I need to get to work without pedalling, because I'm a sweaty mofo and will stink all day (or I need to take the additional time to shower… which just makes the whole process take too long vs a 15 minute car ride).

Whereas riding home, I can do the exercise and only stink out the family.

    • I don't think it has a throttle, no.

    • +4

If it's any good, you shouldn't work up a sweat on an ebike if you don't want to. You can push yourself beyond the motor's capabilities, which will lead you to exert, but if you want you can coast along with as little (virtually zero) effort.

    • +1

You could put this bike on the lowest gear (least effort), max assist and pedal real slow and it will fly but on those settings it's good for about 30km at best which is fine for most city commutes but you will be charging it pretty often.

    • All eBikes in Australia are pedal-assisted but that just means that you have to pedal so as to keep the motor going. If you are on full power and highest gear you will use very little energy on a flat service or slight hills and still travel at up to 25 kph.

      • there are still plenty of ebikes available that include a throttle, and do not require you to pedal. not sure how road legal they are nowadays though.

  • +12

eBike user here. I have a 36v 7Ah battery too (same as this one) with a 250W motor.

You're not getting 70km of range, unless you are on flat hills and using the minimum assist.

Using my bike at max assist, I'm getting about 30-40km on moderate terrain (uphills and downhills) before the battery voltage starts sagging and internal resistance will rise. You might be able to get an extra 10km after that point, but you'll find it starts getting weaker, before dying out at max 50km. I'm also pretty light (60kg) so ymmv.

    • +4

      ymmv

      nice

      • +3

I'm 115kg and I get 25-30km on max assist with an 11ah battery reasonably flat but yea my 207cm 115kg body is not particularly aero

        • What e-bike do you ride? I'm 200cm and rare I get to ask someone hows the weather up there today!

    • It could be a mistake? The US site quotes 50km range for the 7ah, and 120km for the dual battery 17ah (7+10ah packs). 70 km would be more realistic for the 10ah power pack?

  • +3

Good price for a mid-drive, integrated battery, hyrdo disc-brake bike, the belt drive probably great for occasional riders not having to worry about chains and maintenance.

    I was in the market for an e-bike at this price a while back and the 2 that i weighed up were;

    Pedal Falcon - $2,500 - 9sp mid-drive, hyrdo disc brakes, shock fork, 10.4ah
    https://www.99bikes.com.au/pedal-falcon-st-teal

    Reid Blacktop - $2,100 9sp mid-drive, hyrdo disc brakes, fixed fork, 10.4ah

    • +7

Two of the ugliest looking bikes I’ve seen in my life. This Merc is worthy of its label and status.

    • +5

Both of those are basic bottom of the barrel Shimano 9 speed gearing with derailer. This has an internal CVT transmission with belt drive, much cooler.

    • @JGTC
Which one did you end up with?

      • +1

Went with the Reid as i preferred the fixed front fork, slightly narrower wheels and road-style tyres for a faster ride. They also offer a 50% discount off their servicing plans so we got that too.

    • The battery is too small at only 367 wh, ie. 10.5 ah x 35v

  • +2

from all that I'm reading and seeing, lot of overstocked suppliers at the moment, there should be a bunch of deals for regular bike and ebikes coming up. i'm upgrading my MTB for now (rear shock), will probably buy again later in the year (a mullet alloy most likely) when the sky is really falling!

  • +7

AWD (not mid-drive) with 2 x 700w motors, 2 x batteries, 45kph top speed and 120km range for $4,725. They don't publish these links, so offers to purchase may not be honoured. The Outlet page suggests they are all 25% off. Perhaps they are planning the 50% off sale…

    https://nplusbikes.com.au/pages/2022-championship-edition-eb…

    • Very nice but not legal to ride on public roads in Australia. right?

      • +2

Technically no, but it's like cars, they may be capable of 200km/h, if you don't go that fast the cops won't bother you.

If you aren't going 45km/h through city footpaths then the cops probably won't bother you on one of these either.

        • +3

My worry wouldn't be the cops, it would be if you get in an accident, even if you're doing 25kmh and the other person was completely at fault, you'll be the one paying for all their repairs, hospital bills, loss of income, etc. because you are using an unlicensed vehicle.

          Awesome bike though :)

    • much better buy than the OP and its piddly battery

    • 29kg though…

    • DAMN!

I’d go one of the Silver arrows mid-drive, but Damn that dual motor thing looks fun

    • I so want to buy this version of the bike - but another $2.2k on top is… ouch..

Still contemplating which to buy before that damn offer finishes. Lol.

      • Yeah, it's a lot of money for 2 x unknown hub motors on a Merc branded Al frame built by who knows. No gearing (not much to go wrong, but also cheaper). Semi-slick Hookworms need to be replaced if you want to dare try it off road. Mid-drive motors tend to be nicer to ride and more efficient. This is really a toy, and I can't identify a use-case to justify the cost.

I paid $1300 for an Emove Cruiser e-scooter that goes just as fast, has same real-world range, has a seat and takes up less room in the garage so I've talked myself out of this one…

  • +1

So can this be carried into a train for commuting?

    • I don't see why not, passes as an actual bicycle.

    • In what city do you reside?

    • don't know where you live but your city's transport authority might limit it to times outside of peak hour.

    • Yes. But check as there may be restrictions on the hours you want to use. Also what car you're allowed to put it on. Some will only allow it on the 1st or 6th car.

    • Are you willing/capable of carrying 20kgs of awkwardly balanced bicycle up and down stairs?

  • wish it have front suspension. 250Wh battery should be good enough for slim build of this bike

    • +4

i've got an ebike with front suspension and while it looks good on the spec sheet, it's half-arsed mountain bike-wannabe crap and does SFA to dampen shocks.

  • +3

Interesting deal. Not often will a mid-drive ebike sell for this little money. It does have a small battery, your range on this will probably be 20-25kms with assistance.

I also have to say, I've ridden the Enviolo hub and I was not that impressed. It's actually not as easy to use or intuitive as a simple derailleur. It's nice that it gives you the option to run a belt drive, but I'm not entirely convinced of the benefits of a belt. Supposedly they're "easier to maintain", but I have ridden every day for years on bikes with chains and have not worried about how to maintain them. Also notably, fixing a flat tyre on an enviolo is markedly more difficult than a regular hub/QR skewer, so the whole 'easier to maintain' kind of falls flat, for me.

The display integrated handlebars are cool, but at the same time, not cool because you'll esentially never be able to replace or upgrade them, and flat bars like those are pretty uncomfortable for many riders.

Despite all this, I can see someone enjoying this bike. It's pretty sleek and has good features, the price is cheap compared to many other bikes with gates/IGH/middrive. Could you find a better bike with the same specs? Yeah. It'd cost a lot more though.

  • The spare upgradeable battery at $805 is 10Ah (vs initial 7Ah).

    • +1

At the moment. I wonder what the price will be in 3-5 years. (If even available.)

      • Used eBike values are extremely low and that is if you can even sell it.

  • Thoughts on the Championship Edition single transmission vs the Silver Arrows Sport Enviolo CVT?

  • -1

The Shimano mid drive Reid is better value than this, and also a better ebike.

    • Have you ridden both? Could you shed some light as to why this is the case?

    • +1

      Which one? Urban+?

For riding around the city between 30km and 50km range, would choose this one with belt drive.

Does not require chain lubes, means clean and no mess. No derailleur and cable tension to adjust. Internal gear hub enables gear change anytime, even when the bike is stationary at the lights.

Aesthetically, this one is much more pleasing, stealth and well integrated.

    • +1

If that's the one with mechanical disc brakes then I'd leave it alone. Mechanical discs are not self adjusting (at least the ones I am familiar with) and hydro brakes alone makes the Mercedes better value. We live in steep hills and brakes have to be 100%.

  • +4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8Hvl5BIi88 Shows some info on the bike.

  • Tempting!

  • I want one.
But don't like the idea of having to pedaluch, if at all.
The 3.9km drove from home to work, would be enough for the 7ah battery

    • +1

      Have you tried an eScooter?

    • +1

I travel in an area that has some small but steepish hills and my eBike handles them very well. On flat roads or pathways using top gear and max power, there is almost no effort needed at all. I am 77y.o. and good for about 10 yards running.🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • +1

I just bought one for my wife… she had been looking at other bikes around $5k+ so if this goes through we’ll be pretty happy!
For those wondering about the battery life, I’ve been commuting to work with a 7ah battery (Shimano e5000) bike for many years. It’s a 10k trip each way and I charge the battery approx. every three days, which really is no hassle for me. I don’t think the n+ battery size is an issue. If you’re not sure, then go for the silver model with the larger capacity!

  • +2

I can't tell if it's possible to put a rack on the back for panniers, but I have feeling its not built for this purpose :( Also, what's the largest tyre on this bike? does n+ build this bike or is there a generic bike that they use and slap on the brand and change premium?

    • Would love this answered from anyone with experience. After a search, found nothing online…

  • All jokes aside a very solid deal for a decent (on paper) ebike

  • +3

Another ebike rider here. I have the same specs and youll get around 40km range on max assist.

    • +1

40km is awesome. My commute is 10km each way.

      • Nah not really. I had other bikes with double the battery size and double the distance but half the price of this deal.

        • It's good enough for my use case, I meant.

  • +1

Is there a reason why these don't come with fenders? To me they're an important feature (not that I like to ride them on pouring rain, but when its needed, e.g. muddy roads, and light rain etc)

    • as with everything on bikes - weight

      • +1

I'd say cost not weight, particularly since it says they're optional.
They don't cost that much though if you just buy some universal ones (obviously never as good as bespoke/made for model ones)

    • Cost and looks

  • +1

Handle bars get damaged quite often, I'd hate to think how much replacement bars for this would be or if the LCD display goes on the blink? Don't suppose there is a parts list anywhere?

  • Are the safe to park in public if you have a very good lock?

    • No one seems to advise leaving e-bikes out of sight for long. I'll grab a big lock and be quick when I need to park it out of my sight.
      2 big locks maybe.

      • +1

I use an ABUS U-Lock on mine but I also have a Kryptonite 90cm integrated chain lock which I keep in reserve. (Very heavy)
My bike also has an integrated rear wheel lock which came with the bike.

        • Yeah I wish this fancy one had more security options built in

    • +1

have at least 2 sold secure gold-rated locks on it and even then it's risky

    • No bike is safe. Don't do it unless you'll be back in a few minutes or are able to keep it in sight

  • -4

I'm tempted to neg this deal. I've owned other ebikes with double the specs for half the price
