Ordered one to put on the roof of my Tesla.

Might ride it one day. Not sure.

    • +5

Make sure the roof doesn't cave in. It's a heavy unit :D

      • +20

doesnt matter, muzeeb will just buy a new tesla if that happen…
he can just create and approve new listing with 95% off anyway

    • +1

      Terrible aero.

Your Tesla is gonna get hurt real bad mate

    • +3

I don't get it, can someone please explain the joke to me?

  • +17

Honestly don't know why Mercedes would lend their branding to what is essentially a budget E-bike.
    20.5kg's, she's a heavy one

If it was carbon then maybe.

    • +24

      Green washing? Who knows…

    • +24

It's not really that budget, certainly no where near bottom of the barrel when it comes to road going E-bikes. It has some cool features like the belt drive, constant variable transmission and hidden battery.

    • +2

Probably the same reason they lowered the AMG branding to the 45 range. 100% of the badge at 50% the price of a decent one.

      • +6

I think they stooped as low as a rebadged Xiaomi Pro E-scooter 🤣

Wow I don’t get that at all. Kind of cringy. Wtf are the marketing people thinking. Talk about brand dilution.

          • -1

@Smol Cat: What marketing? What people? You risk being branded entity-ist.

AI has been a thing in China for some time, too.

      • They also put the GLA badge on a kart with weak acceleration and handling.

    • +10

      lend their branding

Mercedes is essentially a Daewoo these days

    • -1

20.0 kg is light for an electric bike. If you don't agree look it up.

  • +26

I'll take "Bikes that you can't leave unattended anywhere, regardless of how well you lock them" for $3825 Alex!

    • +7

eshays everywhere coming up to you: "that an ebike? how fast does it go? can i have a ride?"

  • +22

Searching for reviews on this bike from google gives a link to this page: https://nplusbikes.com.au/pages/2022-formula-e-team-ebike-50…

Appears to be the same product with 50% off, so price goes to $2,550.00

    • More than 8000 clicks, 100 comments but how many have actually taken the deal ? Just curious :).

      • +2

Me! Waiting to see if it's honoured.

        • Why wouldn't they honour this ! Doesn't seem to be a price error.

          • @SuperLate: Nah it's a legit product page, it's just not listed on their site directly.

    • Are these guys legit? They've been running a paid ad campaign on social media for quite a while stating '50% off' this exact same model. This likely their regular price

      • Yes, they've been selling these world-wide for a couple of years now.

      • I have never seen these 50% off. I have been eyeing these off for a while and 25% off was the best I had seen (and 40% off the ladies bike which was sold out)

My bike arrived today, so definitely the link on OzBargain is legit. (Unable to confirm if the link you saw on social media was legit. Those always concern me)

        • Is the battery removable?

    • @cretin Cheers mate, you are a legend. Mine arrived today. Couldn’t pass it up at 50% off.

  • +34

A Merc I can afford, finally.

  • +3

    Battery is too small imo

    • +6

Well you are suppose to pitch in too.

I love the bit about lightweight 700C wheels, yet the bike is 20kg

    • +1

Battery is fine if street legal and you are not too lazy to pedal. With 25k limit, battery is only for uphills, headwinds and starting.

    • +1

Yeah 7ah is tiny unless you're happy to charge it every day.

      • +1

every day? 7ah would be lucky to do 30km on a charge with any hills around

    • +1

I agree this bike is only going to go 70km if you turn off the motor and just pedal.

      • The US site states 50km range - probably more realistic?

    • I purchased this bike due to the small battery. I actually want to pedal the bike, but need the extra power for hills and headwinds.

  • +2

had no idea bikes came with carbon belts now…

    • +3

Drivetrain is done by carbon belt, so not a conventional chain. Little bit of a loss there but quiet, lightweight.

    • +2

There are a few around (carbon belt), has a few advantages and one big disadvantage as there is some loss of drive train effienncy but seeing as you have an e assist probably a fair trade off for the advantages ?

    • +2

Maybe you're not that into cycling? Early prototypes of Gates belt drives were first seen at Eurobike 2007
But there are limitations which makes them not for everyone: rear triangle needs an opening to remove the belt; and unless you prefer a fixie, the belt drive requires hub gears.

      • +2

btw fixie and single gear are not the same thing.

        • They are to most people who don’t ride them :)

    • +2

They have been around for a while, I have a bike with gates carbon belt and rohloff hub.

  • +1

the speed and range are quite bad for a rrp of $5k

    • +6

Well, the speed is legally limited, so even a $30,000 ebike is speed limited to 25k in Aus (though most ebikes can be 'unlocked' with a bit of tinkering). When I say limited I'm talking about the limit that assistance cuts out, you can still fang it down a hill at 50km/h if that's your thing.

The range of 70k is actually pretty decent considering the battery is hidden within the frame and not a big chunky bolt on unit. 70ks is a long way to ride and if you are using it as a commuter you could probably charge at work if you are travelling more than 30km each way (good luck to you if that's the case).

      • Interesting, then only place this is good for is if you live in the city where cars move slower than bikes

        • Not with $17 parking! And the risk of having to pay an excess battling traffic every day.

      • +1

Problem is the range is misleading. 36v 7ah battery is good for approx 40km at max assist. It is common for manufacturers to overstate the range by assuming minimum or medium assist levels but doesn't make it right and in my book it is downright misleading.

Min assist only contributes up to 6kph, very unrealistic to assume people will want to travel at that speed for 70km.

        • The enviolo hub is very inefficient. It will use more power than stated.

          • @slam: I was being optimistic with 40km range to be honest but after your comment, seems 30km is more like it, if not less.

            • +1

@baker bob: I agree. I think relying on the stated range for any electric vehicle is not a good idea. Will be interesting to see how this goes in the real world. I have not tested it yet, but your 30km estimate sounds reasonable/realistic.

I had a quick ride today and on flat road on level 2 assist I was still hitting 25-30km/h.

I think for me at least, max assist will not be used often.

This bike does have CVT gears, so selecting the right gearing for the road grade will help.

    • +3

I've used an eBike for 6 years. It weighs 26kg when nude and has a rear-wheel motor. I've had very little go wrong (all my fault). since I bought it.
Its battery is a Panasonic 36v -15ah and there is no way I was going to get 70k out of a full charge even when the battery was brand new. That is unless I had it on the 2 or 3 out of 5 power setting. This means of course I was providing half the power. eBike claims of power and distance are basically BS Buyer Beware.

  • Is this one of those pedal assist e bikes?

    • Yes, you must be peddling for the motor to work. This is also for safety as when you stop peddling the motor will turn off.

  • +2

Why are they 7 km/h faster in the states?

    • +12

Laws and legislation. We're capped to 25km/h here.

      • +5

My Valk ebike has an easy settings switch to pretend it's US and go up to 32km/h

    • +14

      Because FREEDOM

    • +1

Different regulations. I used to commute on an e-bike imported from the US, so I could cruise at 32km/h - not noticeably fast enough to draw attention of law enforcement.

  • +1

Account for the additional weight in their rear ends.

  • Id rather have half price on the silver arrow model.

  • +6

Hmmm….carbon belt drive paired with Enviolo constant variable transmission. Stacks up pretty nicely against Shimono Alfine and Rohloff Speedhub drivetrains.

    • Thanks I didn't even look into the tranny, you have a point

  • I actually might buy this. Looks better than other e-bikes. But no carbon fibre on a Formula E inspired bike is a bit bullshit

  • Might be a dumb question, but could I use my existing child seat on this bike? I have one that mounts to the frame under the riders seat and it looks like it would fit.

    This one https://www.99bikes.com.au/baby-seat-hamax-kiss

    • +1

Looking at the bike and child seat specs.

Child seat Fits frame tubes from 28-40 mm (round)

But then looking at the bike - the battery appears to go in the seat tube (see https://nplusbikes.com.au/products/n-mercedes-eq-team-ebike-…)

So I might suggest that the diameter of the seat tube would be greater than 40mm, but I can't see an specs to confirm this.

      Hope that helps a little.

      • That does help, cheers.
I'll see how it goes - I suspect I'll get it to fit but we'll fnd out.

  • +1

It's a good looking bike, but expensive.

    • +4

At this sale price, it's actually quite good value compared to a similarly spec'ed bike (Enviolo CVT, Gates carbon belt drive, Bafang mid-drive motor): https://lekkerbikes.com.au/products/amsterdam-gt-enviolo-ct-…

The Lekker has a battery twice the capacity of this one, but is also nearly $1500 more expensive. So, if the smaller battery is sufficient for your commute, this bike would be quite a decent choice.

  • +3

Actually a reasonable e-bike for the price, main downside is the 7Ah battery (similar to a Turbo Vado SL 4.0, but that's 48V).

Closest comparison (with a Gates carbon drive belt) would be a Lekker Jordan for $4k, but that's got double the battery size.

    • +1

How's this go compared to Polygon Kalosi Lanes Evo for $2700? Seems like the polygon bike has a shimano motor and 500wh battery going for it.

      https://www.bikesonline.com.au/2023-polygon-kalosi-lanes-evo…

      • +1

That’s a totally different bike, almost nothing in common.

Like asking how a Hilux is compared to a Golf GTI.

I rate the N+ for the Gates Carbon belt drive, I looked at a lot of e-bikes and only a couple have the belt.

      • +3

        Polygon makes good bikes.

The Shimano is better than the Bafang/noname middrive. Even if it's showing as 'less' torque, in reality, it'll be functionally the same, and much less likely to explode. Obviously the Polygon has standard gears opposed to an interally geared hub, but it's a 44/11-43 ten speed, which gives you about 400% range whereas the enviolo hubs are less, between 310-380%. The battery is almost twice as big, which is a massive plus.

The Polygon has a lot of other benefits over the mercedes bike. It is using standard sized handlebars and seatposts, which means upgrading and replacing is trivially easy in future. It has larger wheels and tyres, which means more comfortable ride, not to mention the suspension which is Suntour, which is solid.

That website is also selling the Marin Sausalito ebike for roughly the same price which also looks like a great bike. Marin makes good bikes, the E2 version has an 11 speed, 11-51t deore drivetrain which is even more range, if you were riding on big hills frequently, this is a consideration.

        Carrera said

That’s a totally different bike, almost nothing in common.

I disagree. All these bikes mostly have similar capabilities and are aiming at the same market which is budget friendly urban/commuter style riding. They're flat bar, large wheel, upright riding position general purpose bikes. Yes the Marin and the Polygon have suspension, but that doesn't immediately make them 'Mountainbikes' and mean they're only good for off-roading. In reality, if you were primarily riding off road, you'd likely want a slightly lighter, more powerful ebike and you'd be paying more for it.

tldr; I am not convinced that a belt drive/enviolo is a good investment for a vast majority of riders. If I had to pick between just the two, I'd pick the Polygon 10 times out of 10.

    • Or the Luna Stealth (not Enviolo CVT, but Shimano IGH):
      https://lunacycle.com/luna-fixed-stealth-ebike/

      • +1

That actually looks very similar & I was shocked until I realised the $1899 price was in USD

I’m not a fan of the 3-speed Nexus, but the 7 speed is good for an ebike.

  • +2

Carbon belt drive with Enviolo … I think it might be the cheapest price for this combination. Riese and Muller could cost north of 10k

    • +1

Comparing this Mercedes to a R&M is like comparing a rusty holden ute to a … Mercedes

  • +3

For that price, it does not even come with cupholder
