  • Want to try this but apparently i need to call and give exetel 30 days notice before churning. Wtf

    • +1

Yea you do, it’s very uncomfortable to be honest. They just keep asking questions to try and get you to stay.

    • +3

I recently churned away from exetel and was told about the 30 day notice bs… I complained a bit but was like whatever…
I then thought about it atfterwards to myself "wait a second… if its advertised that you can cancel at any time but then you gotta give them 30 day notice, well that is clearly a contradiction" so I rang up and pointed this out and they waived the 30 day bs.

Not to mention the fact that what's to stop them putting in their terms - give us 60 day notice, 90 days… 1 year… etc lol… they can put whatever they want, doesn't mean its legal.

      • +1

I called them up, they asked why I'm leaving. Told them It was about the price of the sevice and i may return. They went totally cold after that, tried to get me off the phone when i asked about the procedure of the disconnect. That along with charging a $10 late payment fee on their direct debit and insisting on auto debit payments is why i wont be returning. I prefer getting a bill and paying for it, not being forced into auto payments.

  • Anyone in Sydney used these guys and can comment on international speeds? Am currently with Superloop on 100/40.

  • I'm with optus for the past 5+ years having their NBN. I recently upgraded to 100/20 and got a new free modem. Do i have to return the modem if i choose to change the provider?

    • What does your contract say, and what did Optus say when you asked them?

  • +7

PPPOE used here in case anyone cares.

  • +1

I won't pay more than $70 per month for a 50/20 connection. With the current price rises will have to drop down to 25/10.

    • but it's $69.90 for 50/20 so still under $70

  • +3

A friend of mine who lives in lets say… "North Korea" would like to know if youre able to access torrent sites with Tangerine?

Theyre currently with Vodafone DPRK and have full access, to such fine establishments such as Rarbg & Yifi, will this still be possible with Tangerine?

    • +4

A friend of mine in south Korea has advised it's possible with this provider…

    • +5

To my knowledge it is possible with any ISP, you just may need to tweak your DNS settings. I used to be with Tangerine, torrented as always.

    • +2

You should be using a VPN anyway when visiting torrenting sites… and the ISP wouldn't really matter then.

      • not really an issue in australia..
USA yeh it could be an issue

        • Have you tried to access any without a VPN, i have on accident and it comes up showing the websites are blocked under etc etc…

    • Wouldn't a VPN bypass these issues?

  • More Telecom (which I believe is part of Tangerine) was horrendous for me.

Had constant dropouts during evening peak. Opened 2 cases, neither was responded to. Called, said to open a case on the web portal.

Got fed up, moved to Aussie Broadband, muuuch better

    • jezgadi… was this on FTTN?

  • +1

    That $63 cashback though 🤤

    • If u wait,its usually 99$

      • How do you get $63 or $99?
Is it cash back per month?

        • Nah once off when you switch to tangerine broadband

  • +1

I can't stand offers like this - promos for new customers to then jack the price up after a period of time. I say don't fall for it and get yourself a good deal that's the normal price or will be grandfathered.

    • +8

Why not just change providers every 6 months, NBN are the ones who pass the 6 month discount to the providers so it's not exactly their choice

      • +1

It’s the head fk of remembering to switch. Life happens. Ppl forget end up staying for longer and paying more. If u a proper tighta$$ then go for it…

        • +2

Set a reminder in your phone. Takes ten seconds to do, then you can't miss it

    • +3

The old days of being loyal to an ISP are dead. With NBN as long as you have FTTP/FTTC you can switch providers and it takes minutes.

No point being loyal to an ISP when you can ride 6 month discounts with no downside and can be connected to a new ISP 2min after signing up.

  • +5

Have been with Tangerine now for 2 yrs. Sunshine Coast Qld. 50/20 FTTC. Never had a dropout and speeds constantly around 65, even during peak. Cannot speak for customer service, never needed any. It just works. Well.
I use PIA to download my Linux distros and no probs with torrents or newsgroup. Speed still over 60.
    In short, highly recommended. YMMV.

  • Been with this mob for a couple of years. Really good for me.

  • +2

    Do they offer no CGNAT?

  • +2

Looking for the cheapest 50mbps nbn plan. Any suggestions?

    • Same here. Wonder if they are willing to do a deal for the 50 plan

      • Leaptel is $60 for 12 months, then $75 after

  • +1

Anyone know how this compares to the Australia Post NBN offering, I think there's is slightly cheaper for ongoing? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740946)

  • Simple process to switch from FTTN with Superloop to this mob?

    • Not for me at the moment.
Got a text today from Superloop confirming the transfer request and within 5 minutes of me confirming it they shut off my internet and my tangerine one hasn’t come online yet.
Maybe due to the public holiday but not ideal

  • +1

Have just signed up via the Shopback $63 cashback Econnex link, will see how it goes as Superloop plan is meant to renew tomorrow (changed from credit card to BPAY).

    • What is the econnex link? How do you get it? Thank you.

    • I did that too… but have you received an email from Tangerine? I only got a confirmation from ecconex

      • Not yet, I’m thinking that it is not completely automated and things will hopefully be sorted tomorrow. Did a live chat with Tangerine earlier and they recommended waiting another 24 hours/did not have my info yet.

      • I called them today, they stated 24-48 business hours to review application and pass on to Tangerine. Have cancelled and was given same timeframe, just going to go with Tangerine directly as not impressed with Econnex. If you are happy waiting another 2-4 days for them its probably fine.

  • Website says the ultrafast speed tier is configured on 500/50

  • is service better than tpg?

    • Could anything be worse than tpg?

  • +1

How do these dudes compare to TPG?

  • Anybody know if they will setup physical connection if it's a new build with provision of NBN at garage side? I have no idea about NBN
. Been on 5g for 2 years.. looking to move out. Thanks for any help

  • So I assume they wish to get those forgetful merging their account to another platform or wish to obtain volume of account subscribers for business evaluation for proof of further investments into tangerine.

I mean come on it's not like they can retain you for ever.

  • How does Exetel and TPG compare in Sydney to this

    • Exetel is cheaper ~ $85 for 100/40

      • Can get 100/40 for $72.90 with this.

  • Are there any downsides to jumping between providers and getting new customer promos, e.g. between Aussie BB, Superloop, and these guys?

    • +1

Change the router/modem settings. Apart from that nothing much to do.

      • What settings do you need to change?

        • +1

They will email you with instructions.

    • I guess having your details across so many companies risks exposure to data "leaks"

    • +1

      Nope
      It’s the ozbargain way

  • Bye bye Superloop.

  • CGNAT?

  • Awww no 1000/50 plan :(

    • I'm on the 500/50 and get over 960mbps to many places in Oz. Very happy :-)

      • So it's really a 1000/50 plan, is that what you're saying?

        • They probably just say 500 to avoid people complaining when they don't get anywhere near 1000

  • I am with More Telecom's 1000/50 plan and have never gotten speeds more than 600 Mpbs. Raised the issue multiple times but they weren't able to resolve it.
    They asked me to;
    1) connect to the router with a wire so I used a Cat8 cable.
    2) connect directly to NBN FTTP box with the cable and the issue was still not solved.

If Tangerine is same as More then I guess no point switching.

    • +1

Have you been able to get more than 600mbps with other providers? Just thought it might be worth double-checking you are not being limited by router hardware?

      • Good point CVV. My Asus was only allowing 200Mbps, bought a new router and full 1000

        • Yeah, I've anecdotally read the some older/basic routers can be limited to somewhere roughly between 300mbps and 600mbps. Hard to pin down as it does depending on router config.

First time ever for broadband speed to be limited by routing capability. Least that sounds like some progress, finally.

  • +5

Prices should be like this all the time. Internet connectivity should be faster and cheaper over time. In this backwater country it (NBN) keeps increasing in price. At the very least there should be rebates for lower income households paying for the NBN.

  • +1

Don't forget to use referrals! A $25 discount in addition to cashback for the first-month makes this deal amazing. =]

    • How do you get cashback?

      • If you use a referral code, the $25 cashback is applied at checkout of your service for your first month.

  • Anyone try this mob => FlipConnect
    https://www.flipconnect.com.au/cheap-nbn-plans
Aussie call centre & voted #1.

Looking to switch from ABB solely due to price.
    I am in Melbourne.

  • Good offer! I just moved to Australia Post nbn and it’s great (around $65 for 100/20). Once the 6 months offer is up I’ll be moving probably this or Superloop depending on best offer.

  • I'm going to forever be with Exetel it seems. No one's been able to beat their grandfathered plans in half a decade.

  • Keep in mind it took me and many others like 5 months to get the $99 cashback via SB.

  • +1

Is it worth chasing high speed (eg >200mbps) NBN if my property just has HFC?

I'm currently grandfathered in on a good Optus 5G deal, but reliability isn't amazing…

    • +1

HFC supports up to 1000Mbps down and 40Mbps up!

      • 1000Mbps download is right. It's 50Mbps upload.

  • I signed up for Tangerine last week and have already found another ISP. Constant dropouts from day 1. I called their "support" to complain (I was in my car at the time) and was told I needed to provide my account number before they could help me and to ring back when I returned home. Apparently my name, address and phone number etc isnt sufficient for them to identify my account!!!!

  • Moving over from Superloop. I'm currently on 100/40 with fttp. Not sure if worth moving to 250/20 as we are family of 5 and will all be online all at once. Normally have a PS5 and XBox doing online gaming. Other members of household watching Netflix and Youtube etc. Any suggestions an what speed?

    • -3

500/50 would be the likely upgrade cos ps5 and xbox need upload speed for online gaming

  • New Customers Only

I was with them until June 2021, am I a new customer now ?

    • For superloop yes for tangerine no

  • Can anyone confirm if this can be used with the referral? As their ts and c states that “this offer is not valid in conjunction with any other offers or discount”?

    • Yep, press the referral link on this page and it'll let you PM another member for a code :)

  • Anyone with this in the west side Melbourne (sunshine)? Any drop outs or has it been all smooth

  • +4

Previous Tangerine customer for 2 years, then Superloop, back to Tangerine 500/50 plan. I get over 900Mbps Down / 47Mbps Up to most of the eastern seaboard. Even over 600Mbps to many west coast USA locations. So yep, happy TT customer.

  • +1

Just had this deal activated for fttb. Been trying to get this working on a TP link archer VR1600v V2 left in my rental with no success.

I assume it was a TPG modem originally. Tried factory reset, delete the current DSL settings, add a ppoe with username and password. Obvs have it connected from the phone line to the DSL port. Have also read up a fair bit but can't see anything specific.

    Any suggestions?

    • Authentication is pppoe with your username / password they sent you once activated

    • I have the same modem. Did you get it to work? My connection is in the process of activation, received email an hour ago. How long did yours take since initial account setup email? TIA

      • Seems that there's an issue with the NBN connection. A technician is coming tomorrow morning so fingers crossed!

        • Yeap turned out it was just as issue in the basement. Getting speeds in the high 90's so I'm pleased.
