  • Are referrals working or being rejected?

  • Wished it were 250/50 plan anywhere

  • I changed over last night from Superloop. So far no complaints… was a little hesitant about vocus, but seems on par with Superloop so far

Has anyone tried using tangerine with Telstra smart modem 2? I am planning to move from ABB and have been using Telstra modem just fine. Tia

    • Yep works fine. Just needs PPPOE setup with username and password.

  • Thought I'd share my experience.

I'm in Sydney Metro, HFC, and this was my first time changing ISP while NOT moving.

I was with iinet on the 250Mbps plan, usually got around 230Mbps with about 12ms to 14ms ping on speedtest.net

I signed up on Monday night for this, 250Mbps plan, it was up and running last night within 24 hours, though with a few hiccups along the way.

Could not get my BYO modem (Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000) to work (which worked fine with iiNet), just didn't want to connect, even after more than an hour on tech support, we tried everything, factory reset, setup wizard, you name it.

After the call I continued reading their tech support and saw they supported the Google Nest Wifi routers, so then I tried restarting by using my google nest wifi router, they have a very nice guide on how to do that and managed to get it going. However, I needed to factory reset nest router and all the points to set it up for some reason (this step isn't part of their guide, I was struggling and ended up trying this as the guide assumes setup from out of the box).

Shaky start but got there in the end.

I'm getting constantly 260Mbps with 13ms ping on speedtest.

On a side note, iiNet emailed me and said they noticed the service change, and said my account was to be closed, and they even pro-rata refunded me. Pretty neat!

  • Thinking of going to Tangerine from Superloop on the 100/20 plan, test for a month or two and then may go for the free FTTC to FTTP upgrade on the 250/25 plan.

If you move to FTTP are you committed to staying on a 250/25 plan as a minimum in the future? I understand that you may have to stay for 12 months otherwise some RSP may charge you the $200, so I am asking beyond the 12 months?

    • so I am asking beyond the 12 months?

You can swap to a slower speed again.

    • just switched from superloop 50/20 to tangerine 100/20 literally getting 105down and 1 up

  • How would they compare to Telstra in terms of speed and latency. I am on FTTN and was advised I cannot get the 100/20 plan some time back. FTTP is much further away.

    • +2

I’m on FTTN and was using optus with 100/20 plan. Speed was between 65-90mbps. I switched to tangerine yesterday and constantly getting 90/18. I’m based in Perth.

  • Cancelled Superloop effective 8th January and just signed up to Tangerine to happen on the 6th. Just received a text saying no matter what, don't cancel my existing service until the new one is up and running or I may experience severe delays in provisioning. Would have been good to know. Normally I just get the new service on a spare Uni D but wasn't provided this option as I signed up via Shopback.

  • Moved to Tangerine today, 100/20 plan from Superloop (connected @ 7:30pm). Speeds are good when I run Speedtest (96.8/18.8) but my latency when up from average 5-6 (on Superloop) to 8 (on Tangerine).

Is it likely to improve or can it be improved?

    • +3

      Nothing wrong with 8ms latency

  • Can anyone confirm that Wifi calling works for a Boost/Telstra customer with Tangerine?
I assume it will but I just wanted to confirm.

  • Has any fine OzBargainer had experience with Tangerine using an Eero 6 router? I can't find it on their "approved" list but its a common piece of kit so I was hoping it would be supported.

    • No problems with the Eero 6+. As long has you have the latest Eero firmware which now supports PPPoE, you'll be good to go.

      • Thanks mate!

  • Ah shoot, I cancelled my previous provider (superloop through SMS) before my tangerine NBN was active. Now I have no internet. How long did it take you guys to get connected after your order was confirmed?

    • Same here, but I can't tell if I'm provisioned or not. Superloop stopped working so I changed to PPPoE and put new un/pass into router. I can ping google but get no other traffic. I am authenticating and getting a WAN IP. I saw sometimes when restarting what looked like my old superloop IP coming up so I replied to the disconnection SMS from superloop but that hasn't helped…. What do now? On hold to support

    • I have my service booked in for tomorrow. Fingers crossed it happens. As per my post above I cancelled my Superloop effective the 8th. Hopefully it's all good

      • +1

ok got a hold of support and they sorted it almost immediately. Apparently if you copy and paste the username and password it sometimes doesn't work. I cleared the details and typed them in manually and it started working straight away!
Getting 265mbps on the 250 plan

        • Is this FTTP?

        • +1

If you just copy and paste from their welcome email it's very easy to include a space at the end of the username. This leads to authentication error but it's not obvious because you cannot see the space on logs.

Tangerine really should remove that space from the email and that would save themselves a lot of support calls and customer frustration. Doubt anyone would ever care enough to do the right thing

    • Just got connected. Ordered 4/01/23, active 1 day later. My speeds are pretty atrocious though. FTTP 100/20 plan getting speeds of 20mbps….hmmm

EDIT: my 2.4ghz connection is doing 20mbps download but my 5ghz connection is getting much better speed ~90mbps.

  • I'm on fixed wireless, does it matter what isp I go with. Will they all give the same speeds.. Currently with abb paying 79 a month

    • Honestly you're at the mercy of NBN and their FW capacity upgrade schedule, I'd personally recommend you stick with ABB simply because they can actually push NBN to get shit done and have a lot of experience in handling NBN FW issues, if you were fixed line i'd say give Tangerine a go because they have a 14 day guarantee but given its FW no

    • If i were you and wanting to improve your service i'd get Starlink. My old man also has NBN fixed wireless and it is god awful in his area.

      • I can't afford starlink. I get 70mbps so it's not too bad

        • Cool that is much better than at my old mans place.

  • Move from Telstra - 2 days stuck at 'Order Acceptance'

  • Had Superloop scheduled to disconnect on Sunday. Internet just dropped out and txt from Superloop saying sorry to see you go. WtF…Tangerine just says order received even though I booked it in for connection today. Strangely the only website that loads is Whirlpool. Turning into a very stressful move

    • +1

Pheeew. After a couple of hours without internet Tangerine is up and running. Talk about stress. Good speed. 247 down, 23 up with 6ms ping (250/25 plan)

  • Will Telstra smart gen 2 router work with Tangerine? I am planning to move from ABB.. thanks

    • am also considering this move as well

    • I am on a smart gen 2 router and keen as well.
But the transfer from Telstra is 4th day and counting :(

  • How do you add a Referral code please as didn't see any option for it when signing up?

    • It will appear just before payment.

      • Thanks but got to payment page and only option was for Dealer Code nothing else and it didn't work in there, that's why I asked sorry.

        • Same problem here. Cant find It! Nothing is there before payment

          • @Dienk: Hmmm, that's weird. Give them a call I think.

            • +2

@Julius: Found it - it's further back in the checkout process, on the page where you confirm your address. It's below the 'next' button at the bottom of the page, easy to miss.

    • Having the same issue. The only place to add a code is under 'agent code', which is rejecting the referral code as invalid

  • Their CS seem to be very slow. Took them more than 30mins to answer my call. And then they hung up lol. Auspost CS was very quick in comparison..

But moot point in the end. Turns out my new home is with opticomm. Both are not in the ISP community with opticomm.

  • if ive used them in the past will i be ineligible?

    • ah nevermind, read the t&c and I am not :( doh

  • Put an order through via shopback econnex but there was no option to put in a referal code? Also it would only give me option for 250/25, no ultra fast option.

    • From the above application late this morning started getting emails this afternoon Tangerine were processing our order with NBN. Had about 2hrs of downtime unfortunately as we misread their emails think it was complete when it was not, and so replied to Superloop SMS that we've ported which then killed our service for a few hrs. Bit shocked also that they required i manually setup PPOE authentication details too. Always been automated/seamless with prior NBN service providers we've used.. must have been living under a rock.

  • There is upsize cashback $99 via SB

    • I still see $63 only. Maybe it already expired

  • +1

Moved from Superloop to Tangerine and have an unhappy wife working from home today with the 250/25 connection being too slow to do a Speedtest. Feel like the last time I had issues it was also with a Vocus provider (Brisbane), might need to take them up on the 14 day money back guarantee..

    • I'm in Toowoomba currently getting 262/23 after also having moved across from Superloop. I rebooted my router and it's been pretty consistent speed the last few days.

      • When getting the service connected it was fine in terms of the speedtest matching the plan, though the internet being too slow to use yesterday was enough to make me go to Aussie Broadband yesterday evening. Never had a single issue in the last 6+ months with Superloop, would rather pay for quality service and support when it comes to the internet and mobile.

        • +1

You and I are in the same boat. Thankfully I was within the 14 day’s cancellation policy. I managed a speed test on my 100/40 plan. It was 0.8/0 haha

          • +1

@cc23: Too good to be true unfortunately! It’s possible that some areas/POI’s are fine, Aussie and Superloop would not let it get that bad though.

    • +1

dude the same. I regret it so much. 50/20 from superloop now to 100/1 from tangerine when it was meant to be 100/20 those are the speeds im getting. Need to use the 14 day.

  • Quick update from a fellow OzBargainer here. Personally I had to shut down this plan horrific number of dropouts and insanely low speed. Managed to flick to Exetel in a manner of hours and has been a huge improvement, well, essentially exactly as it was with superloop who I was with before.

    • What speeds were you getting? I'm currently having issues with speed with streaming services and zoom/teams etc. Speedtest shows ~100mbps but can't stream Optus sport without it constantly lagging. How strange. Making me think I need to switch…

      • Legit, I was getting 50mps one minute, 0.8 the next.

  • just joined as a churner from spintel - FTTC 100/20mbps plan with referral code for $25 discount in the first month. running full speed so far during peak as it looks like there's zero contention in my DPU from other houses. had to call up twice for support which both ranged between 15-30 mins due to sync taking over 2hrs. recommend people do something to burn up the wait time on the line.

  • +1

Been on Tangerine a few days now. Great speeds domestically. Horrific unreliable international speeds to europe and uk tonight not even 1mbps. They are using some trash unreliable routes and seem to be oblivious or no alternatives.

  • Anyone in NSW use these guys? Apparently CS is very slow incomparison to Superloop and AussieBB? I also want to know how are peoples speeds in NSW.

    • 90mbps
Had a drop a cpupke of days ago.

Reboot devices usually the first thing tgey will ask you to do.

If still having issue, they will ask to reset.
Typical nbn troubkeshooting from aby vendor

      • you replied right at the time im having trouble lol. 100/20 but am getting 100 down and 0.60 up

        • Use speedtest ookla and or fast.com to test speed.

I had issue the first time i connect since the router I was using was previously configured with TPG.

I hard rest my router and went to wizard to input the user and password and was able to connect.

Had temp disconnection due to bad weather and thunderstorm but went back in a couple of minutes.

So far i was able to call support even on sunday. Typical wait time, not too bad.

They said you can request to cancel and resume later if in case you are going on long vacation ajd be able to resume the remaining promo discount when you request to reconnect.

          • @atlinus: Yeah I guess Im going to wait until tomorrow. As for the setting configuration I think they tell you to reconfigure as they're using PPPOE and not DHCP. You have to do that before you use their services.

Im just reading up on their 14 day money back guarantee and will see for tomorrow. Thanks heaps mate!

  • Just left exetel to join, gone from 100mbps to around 20-40 depending on time. This is on their 100 plan

    • How many days it took for the connection to be active? Looking to move from exetel to Tang

      • Within 24 hours for me

  • Just answering queries above about whether you have to be a new customer.
Apparently you don't, despite what the T&Cs say. I've just been connected on the 100/20 plan for $62.90 after previously using Tangerine (ending November 2020, at the same address) and it accepted me. I just used my previous account details.
The only funny thing so far is that I ran speed tests, and the upload speeds were only 7-8 Mbps (which is not a problem for me). Download was as expected, around 96-97 Mbps.
    I'm in Adelaide, on FTTC.

  • +2

For those that need 40Mbps upload (maybe for Plex or other reasons) you can message the chat and pay an extra $10 a month to change the XXL plan from 100/20 to 100/40. Making it $72.90 per month, thought that was pretty good.

  • Looks like Shopback offer has been increase to $99 now! But I can't see Tangerine offer for my address FTTC. Does anyone know why?

    • Just spoke to Econnex who said they removed Tangerine from their website to be eligible for cashback for the time being and are not sure when it will be available again.

  • Can i use the referral code here and also get a cashback of 12% from cashrewards?

No one responding to get referral code :-)

    • -1

      finally someone replied

          • @Cheequee: Any word on cashback + referral?
I assume the FttP staysand can be used by any provider? Is there any requirements for keeping the FttP? It does say no lock in contracts but assume that's for std plans…?

            • @parad0x: The referral is applied at checkout, so you pay $25 less upfront. But it also reduces your 12% cash reward as well.

Once you are upgraded to FTTP, you can then switch to any provider. I thought there was a minimum time you should be on the higher tier plans. But I see a lot of people don't stick to it. Not sure what the effects of that is.

  • Customers with FTTC get a free upgrade to FTTP when signing up to their XXXL Plan (250/50) or higher ($79.90 first 6mths, $109.90 thereafter. Unsure on requirements to keep it though, I only remember outside of business hours or on public holidays aka today!

    • To everyone who shared their referral codes, I appreciate the love but I utilised the referral system which is the fairest (and best/easiest) way to obtain referrals. So, Sorry all :)

  • Very strange.
I got the ordered e-mail 2h ago with user ID and password and SMS from Superloop. My internet was disconnected after I replied YES to Superloop.
I entered user ID and password to my router and the DSL is up and router shows it has internet.
But I can't connect to any website from my device! But I can ping google or yahoo from my device! What's going on here?
I haven't received a nbn activated email yet. Do I just have to wait? Thanks

    • +1

I was in your boat before. You just have to wait until they send you an email saying services activated and will start charging you. Youre waiting on NBN or the ISP confirming/activating if I remember correctly.

      • Thanks.

        • +1

Got the activated email half hour ago. It worked.

  • Is the random referral code thingy working? I've been waiting for a code for 2-3 hours now. Is it worth changing from Superloop to Tangerine? I'm currently on the 250Mb plan but looking for a cheaper option below $100

    • migrated 1 week ago. good speed with 2 people working from home so heavy on zoom etc.

      • How much bandwidth do you consume with 2 ppl WFH on zoom?

Micro$oft Teams hardly use up 5mbps for me so I always feel I am not making good use of the bandwidth I paid for

    • Yep, refresh the page and get a new random referral

  • Just signed up.

Churning from Superloop 100/20, which I was happy with but they wouldn't match the deal. With the $25 referral it seems like a really good deal. Just gotta remember to churn again in 6 months time because NBN providers have complete disdain for loyal customers.

I did it through the cashback link but nothing is showing up on the cashback site, never used cashback before. Don't really care because it's only 12% off the first month which after the discount was $37.90, so $4.55.

    Fingers crossed Tangerine doesn't suck.

  • Am with Tangerine and my god support is SOO BAD. Tickets take more than 4 days and cancelling is dead tiring as the service hasnt been cut yet with the 14 day trial. 100/20 but realistically had 47 / 0.63.

Wished I stayed on Superloop. (Sydney, NSW)

Will be signing up with AussieBB without a deal unfortunately.

    • Interesting, my experience has been great, online chat is responsive and has been able to solve all of my questions. Speed has been great too, 100/40 and getting 102/38.

      • What's worse is that I asked for cancellation and they put in a ticket. All good got refund and signed up with aussiebb and they told me since my NBN is still active they cannot connect me Tangerine still hasn't cancelled so I'm in a loop and now I have to contact them again to ask if they're going to actually disconnect me or just leave me like this. It's starting to get frustrating.

I did tick saying transfer me from another provider to aussiebb because they still haven't cancelled and now I'm stuck in a loop. My biggest regret.

        • That's odd, I always assume even if you don't cancel, if you signed up with another provider they'll be able to just takeover on the day, similar to utilities.

          Guess that's not the case?

          • @shattered: You know what I think you are right because theres a checkbox for it. I assumed that as well but the support chat told me otherwise. Weird. I guess I will talk to them again about it lol

            • @iLikeSales: Call them and see what happen form the NBN end, they should be able to read the error code from NBN.

Normally if your line is active, it take less than an hour for the new service to be transfered.

If your line is not active(no active service), then it may take couple of days.

I always hop 2 days before the current cycle end.

  • FWIW, Just switched to Tangerine from Superloop. Connected on 6th Feb and there's been constant dropout. We're on FTTC in Victoria using Asus AX53U and was rock solid before. Tried reset router and so far it's still happening.
I'm currently away but my girlfriend was on the phone with support for an hour before she had to leave and it's still not resolved.
Probably the worst net switch I've went through so far coming from Internode/Superloop/AussieBB previously.

    • Can you give an example of what you mean by dropout?

      • The router will lose connection and state it's initiating connection and be stuck there for an in-determinant amount of time until it reconnects itself. (sometimes hours, sometimes less)
I don't believe it's the router issue as it was fine with superloop, but I did try powercycling the router and that doesn't work, reset router also doesn't work.
This has occurred a >3 times since switching over on 6th Feb.

The issue also caused a byproduct of problem for me as I have Google Doorbell and Camera, when they lose connection, they seem to attempt reconnection aggressively, which apparently eats up a lot of battery. :/

    • +1

Lol kind of in the same position. Massive headache aye. I'm also coming from superloop. I regret moving.

      • Yeah, if they don't get their act together, I'll probably cancel within the 14day grace period and switch to something else.
