  • Thanks Op grabbed a Blue one $4.11 for me on paypal.

    • As noted by Froot Loops , if you select AUD currency on Aliexpress, you get AUD$ 3.98

      • +2

Yup. Set AUD on the AliExpress site (you can still pay with PayPal). PayPal's rates suck.

      • My currency is set to AUD, yet it comes up $4.11 for me too.

        • Weird. They might use a live FX convertor (Mastercard uses a daily rate).

        • +2

Best to buy from overseas sellers in USD and pay using 28 degree type cards that use mastercard rates for conversion.

          • @megadeth: yes, using 28degree paid in usd, ended up $3.90aud

  • +1

$3.98 for me via PayPal (for both transaction) using AUD on the AliExpress website. Cheers OP

  • Just got one for $4ish AUD

  • I almost gave up again but ended up getting one.

  • +1

I suspect these won't work with Raspberry Pi like there other models won't work.

    • +2

I assume this is because these enclosurs are USB powered. Raspberry Pi offers very little power via USB.

      • No. Other enclosure chipsets were not compatible. It caused errors.

        • Ah I see. Luckily for me I didn't run into that issue. I've successfully tried a few 2TB mechanical drives (the kind with the drive built into the case).

      • +1

I was using one of these with a Pi4 revB 4G and it was totally fine:
        ORICO 2139U3 USB3 to 2.5" SATA Enclosure

Obiously go for an SSD, you would need to supply additional power for bigger hard drives 3.5" etc

    • I've had an enclosure plugged into Rpi4 with no issues, just have to make sure it's ~<2TB SSD 2.5"
Now have a similar M.2 caddy plugged in - neither draw too much power.

  • this also worked for the black one for me (!?)

    • +1

I happened to include that in my screenshot but not description oops.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed blue one for 3.98

  • +2

But I purchased the Amazon deal last week for $11 :(

    • I paid $15.25 on the 18th, being super desperate. I feel your pain. I purchased 2, using 2 accounts to make sure it doesn't happen again

      • +1

I'll return the Amazon one lol

        • I must say, I'm considering it.

          • @Froot Loops: should be free if you dont open the envelope it comes in, just remove the labels and take it back to auspost for a free return after requesting a return in amazon

    • Amazon one was USB 3.1 Gen 2 and USB-C, this one is micro-B and USB 3.0 if I'm not mistaken

  • NVMe is better than 2.5" SSD right?

    • +8

Yep NVMe is faster. This is still a good option if you have any old 2.5" SATA HDDs or any of the countless cheap 2.5" SSDs going on sale.

    • NVMe is faster than SATA. m2 vs 2.5" is not the relevant point.
But for an external drive, it is unlikely to matter at all.

  • Thank you OP - Got it for $3.98

  • thanks, $3.90 w/ westpac. Seems like you can only redeem once

  • How can usb3.0 ports generate 25w power?

    • Took me a second lol

    • Short circuit it.

  • cable included?

    • Yes.

      • yeah just reread description. my bad

  • Got it for AU $1.37…? I think I had a new user type discount because I logged in with my 2nd Google account. Had to enter card details because Paypal would not work under a certain threshhold.

Hopefully I am going to get what I selected (white enclosure) and not a rock or something.

I did not apply any discount.

    • Yep new user bonus. I spoke to my buddy at Orico after posting and this is certainly a legit deal from them.

  • Cheap as chups but I dont have a use for it but not ozbargain style buy now think later…

    • Just wait for a cheap SSD deal.

  • is there a speed difference between usb c and micro b

    • USB-C to USB-C is faster in general (your drive / case needs to keep up). For example USB-C to USB-C Gen 2 at 10Gbps, compared to above USB-MB to USB-A @ 5/6Gbps.

I'm not suggesting USB-C example is a good deal, it's the first with TB3 speeds on amazon I found. For the price of above (USB-MB/A) is a very good deal @ $4 (I paid $15 for the same one last week on Amazon as the cheapest and I was very desperate).

      • In this product page the top row are USB-C enclosures. The picture shows USB-C as 6gbps and USB3 as 5gbps so I can't imagine much difference between these particular ones. Look for a 10gbps USB-C enclosure if you want to run a fast SSD.

    • +1

It is the extra-wide micro-B, not the standard one, so both are usb-3.0 speed.

  • needs to say 1 per person/code only. wouldnt let me buy 10+ at that price

    • All AliExpress codes are single use. You'd need 10 accounts :P

      • ahhh thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated

  • +2

USB B is a deal breaker, have to carry a special cable just for it. But I guess I gonna jump on the usb C despite the shipping fee

    • Easy enough if you have to carry around the drive anyway too. Those Proprietary connectors are a bit annoying though if you break or lose one, just get USB C.

  • awesome. grabbed one. I have a bunch of 500gb hdd's sitting there gathering dust

  • +1

Any recommendation for cable or enclosure for NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD

Primary purpose is to clone NVMe M.2 SSD in one step where only one slot is available

    • +1

I got this one, heat sync case, works well

ORICO M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) to NVMe PCI-E M.2 SSD Case Support UASP for NVMe SSD Size 2230/2242/2260/2280(up to 4TB)-M2PV https://amzn.asia/d/b1twy4q

  • The cheapest I get is 7.66. it won't give me free shipping.

    • +2

Are you choosing the ones in my description? There's a screenshot linked.

      • Ok tried it again. Now it works.

        Thanks.

  • AUD $1.36 for me but it’s below the PayPal $1.50 limit.

  • "Estimated delivery date: Jan 29, 2023" "The system will automatically confirm receipt after 75 days."

    Ok got it.

    Is that express Post?

    • joke aside, you can pay extra for shipping with estimated delivery a month earlier than that date.

      • +2

Yeah right.. People paying stuff all for something they don't need ain't going to pay for shipping

    • +1

      Yep. China express post.

  • I think this code has expired.

  • received today. thanks OP

  • Got mine today! Way sooner than I was expecting.

Fun tip: If you were like me and only bought this as a cheap way to use with 3.5 inch drives, looking at the connector face on, on the left side there is a little gap where you can get a small wedge under. If you pry the outer plastic off, it reveals a tiny PCB that you can use for larger drives :)

    edit lol not enough volts
