Will this be OK as a racing sim rig?

    • +10

Depends. If you are hardcore like Ali, then definitely not

      https://youtu.be/vHSFAgHMbKM

      • +2

May as well sell my car if I go that route. Would never leave the house. Sweet set up!

      • +1

        I love this man's backdrops.

        • I love this man! He's one of my favourite youtubers

    • +2

I mean I’d like a 4070 min imo. But if your screens are 1080p it should be ok

    • Yes, I have a 10700K 3070 for my sim racing rig and it still runs all stuff fine on my 49"

Unless you are gaming at 4K and/or unprepared to turn down settings (esp if you run VR).

Personally Id go for something like a 7800XT withg more ram though.

      Do love the case though.

    • Wouldn't recommend it. 4070 would be the minimum, considering many sim racing titles are poorly optimised (AC Evo, particularly).

    • +3

Don't go for a small case configuration unless you just can't fit your rig into the space you have. While little PCs are cute, what you want for gaming is as much airflow as possible, so full-sized PCs in normal sized cases are preferable (and accommodate higher-end components more cheaply).

      • +4

I respectfully disagree. There are SFFPC cases that are highly optimised for airflow, such as the Formd T1 or NCase M2. The 5090 founders edition fits in the T1 and can run air cooled without issues.

I agree on the cost side though, but SFFPC enthusiasts are prepared to pay a premium to get the most powerful system possible in the smallest case.

    • my dumbass at first glance has read this as "racism rig"
thinking, damn these neo-nazis are custom building pcs now??

  • Could this work with a 7800xt instead of the 4060? If so, what would the price difference be? Thanks in advanced.

    • +11

Hi unfortunately the Max GPU Length supported is 215mm.

      • +3

Cheers for the super quick response.

        • +1

Check out the Formd T1 or NCase M2 if you're after a flexible sff case.

  • +15

You guys have been killing it with providing a range of both aesthetic and quality builds (not always just the base for everything and rip people off on upgrades you know they will need).

Would be awesome seeing higher end ITX builds sometime. Possibly with the 50 series cards being slimmer.

    • Agreed, I really love the aesthetic.

  • +6

Really love the look of that case. I just wish faster cards came <215mm, but it looks like from pc part picker that the fastest ones under that size are around the 4060 range. My current rig has a 3080 so probably won't make the leap this time, but man, that's a great looking little case.

  • +5

Wow that's CUTE AS A BUTTON!

  • +1

Will the size of the case impacting the temperature? of the GPU and CPU?

    • +3

Temps will run slightly higher in most ITX builds because of space constraints, but do your research on this case.

      • Will run cooler than a laptop still

  • +3

I love the case design and I'm so glad there are prebuilts with different cases!

  • cute

  • I really like the look and price of the Cobalt system you have on your site. New architecture, decent parts, reasonable price.

Definitely keeping an eye on that for now!

  • Can you make this with a 5070 or 4080?

    • +2

      There isn't a single 5070 or 4080 on the market that's under 215mm long.

  • +1

    How hot does it get?

  • Is it possible to get a 4070 there? Or even 4060 ti?

    • Not really, they are too big for the case, look for cards that are under 215mm and you will be able to choose from that list.

    • Is it possible to get a 4070 there? Or even 4060 ti?

More power means more size, bigger PSU requirement, more air etc etc.

One thing someone needs to invent is external GPUs. That way you could have your laptop or mini desktop and just plug in a blackbox GPU with its own power when you want to game. And when it comes time to upgrade, it's a straight plug and play swap.

      • +4

Look up Thunderbolt GPU enclosures from Razor etc

        • +3

Wow so someone did invent one? I feel like it's Christmas again!

Edit: I just saw the price, it might have to wait til next Christmas :(

        • Old news but uncommonly used.

    • Yes there is an upgrade option for 4060ti

  • Beautiful. Can you please provide dimensions?

  • Nice looking unit, wondering how feasible to travel with it.

Currently moving between two locations every 3 months or so with a laptop, but once I'm there, it's just a desktop replacement.
Quick search shows plenty of travel cases for mini itx case and seem to be within the carry on size.

    very tempted

    • Very nice, I find it suspicious that there are no cables coming out of the unit, though.

Is it a real photo or a rendering?

    • +3

I have a smaller (~9.2L) case (K77) that I have taken in a backpack as carry on luggage a number of times. I've never had any issues, but I know if you were flying Jetstar where they weigh the carry on bags, it could be a problem.

There's plenty of other cases around, but there's always tradeoffs between GPU length, CPU cooler height, etc etc.

Pondering a change to the Mechanic Master C24 myself (from Aliexpress.. Kogan and Amazon prices are ridiculous)

      • thanks for the info, how much is your current build weigh?

The Jonsbo case itself is already 3.5kg, I guess the whole thing would approach 10kg?

        • +1

Currently running open bench style until I decide my if I am putting it in that case or acquiring a new one. (K77 is nice and light aluminium but a bit annoying to work on) From memory, in backpack, with cables, kb, mouse, headset etc (no monitor) it was around 8-9kg. Empty case, no glass weighs about 770g.

Replacing any tempered glass with either perspex or an aluminium sheet saves on weight and makes traveling a bit safer.

    • Depends how you're traveling. Car is easy and might fit into a backpack for planes. The monitor would be the challenge imo.

      • Already got monitors at both locations, so that's not a problem.
Looking at some mini itx builds on youtube now, haven't considered this option till now.

        • +1

Check out Optimum on youtube. He's an Aussie youtuber specialising in small form factor builds.

The ncase m2 round (16L volume) is recommended these days but is close to $300 and no handle but supports matx mobos and ATX power supplies (might need to buy an extra bracket).

          • +1

@Caped Baldy: Devyn Johnston is another good SFF YouTuber who has done videos with cheaper cases (unlike Optimum 😆)

          • @Caped Baldy: ooh, I didn't know about the M2. Smaller than my NR200P and could go to mATX (so I don't have to be gouged by motherboards).
But then… the case is more expensive than an ITX board…

  • +5

Wow, this is the first Gaming rig I've seen that isn't trying to look like a spaceship. Well done!

    • +1

It makes me wonder why we haven't seen more wooden accents.

Obviously a wooden box would be horrible for heat, but this 'industrial look' with black metal and wooden accents looks far more professional than flashing rainbow LEDs.

  • +3

    Website is ded?

edit: seems to be back up ;-)

  • +1

that is such a neat case

  • Looks beautiful, love the attention ITX is getting

  • The Onyx you linked with the 7500F, what motherboard does it have? Specs say B650i but scroll down and the parts selection says it comes with A620

    • Hi it's A620i, and upgradable to B650i. Just fixed it.

  • This or the nebula 7800x3d / 4070 super ti? Apples vs oranges I know but just curious on people’s perception of value? Looking for something that can get me 240fps on Fortnite (low settings) and run 1440p on 27” for some future proofing ?

    • +1

This won't have an issue with fortnite at 240fps, but for 1440p triple A games you'd need the 4070ti for future proofing. My 2080S which is roughly 4060 performance struggles with 1440p indiana jones, maybe 30fps on medium. Personally will be looking at a 5080 come end of this week.

    • +1

If you want value, don't bother looking at ITX (this is coming from someone who built their own ITX system)

Only consider ITX if you a) really do need the small form factor or b) you have money to burn

      • +1

What was the spec and price of your DIY ITX build?

        • I built it a while ago, so not top of the line by any means; still does well at 1440p 144Hz high-graphics gaming. Looking back, I definitely could have chosen better components (going with AM5 would've been nice but more $$$), but I'm still very happy with it.

i5-12600KF, RX 7700XT, 32GB 3200Mhz DDR4 Corsair LPX (I really needed low-profile RAM!), ID-COOLING IS-55 (CPU temps never go above 70C), a Lexar 2TB NM790 and a Cooler Master V750 Gold SFX PSU all in a tiny 8.1L S300 ITX case; it goes by different names, but found in the US under the 'Shiny Snake' branding. All in all costed me around the $1.9K mark, I think.

          • @CrispyChrispy: $1.9k for “a while ago” build vs $1.5k for a “current build”, makes this deal sound pretty good to me…

            • @freeb1e4me: The 4060 is a low-end graphics card. You will not get very far especially with only 8GB VRAM. Me spending $2K a year and a half ago and this build costing $1.5K does not mean anything, as they are completely different.

What resolution/refresh rate/graphics settings are you targetting?

              • @CrispyChrispy: I disagree. There is an upgrade option to 4060 ti which is very comparable to the 7700xt.

What resolution/refresh rate/graphics settings are you targetting?

                None

                • @freeb1e4me: I did not say this deal is bad value; my original point was that ITX builds in general are bad value (poor price to performance relative to full size/bigger systems).

If you want a pre-built ITX, then by all means, buy this one; it is a pretty good system overall (AM5, 32GB RAM, etc.) so I think $1549 is a decent asking price.

I am not sure I understand the point you are trying to make, though.

                  • @CrispyChrispy: The point is that this deal is significantly cheaper than your 1.5 years ago build. The graphics card is comparable (4060ti vs 7700xt). You definitely over spent, which might explain your negativity on ITX.

                    • @freeb1e4me: How can you say I overspent? Of course the components I chose are cheaper now, it's been a year and a half. AM5 was still extremely $$$ at the time (we're talking $500+ for Z series mobos). I never once thought or believed I overspent.

I am not against ITX systems, quite the opposite. I love mine and how space-efficient it is. I still actively follow ITX spaces like r/sffpc and I'm definitely going the ITX route again the next time I build.

My point that you pay a significant cost premium for the form factor is not an opinion. It is a hard fact.

    • @dammit future proofing and 1440p? definitely the 4070 ti super - 16gb vram

  • How would this go with VR?

    • GPU would be a serious bottleneck

  • That case looks great.

  • Thanks OP. Great build.

I'm looking for something that could be mounted to the back of a monitor with a vesa mount.
If you have a completed build on your table I would love to know the weight.

  • I saw your other deals and I am interested, however I want an AIO with my cpu however you do not offer that, is it possible to make these accommodations if I e-mail through, for example the ONYX case deal or even this Nanocore one? or are they not an option because they do not fit?

  • What's the rough weight for this rig?
