    This or chromecast 4k?

    • +1

Chromecast has more app support especially for casting from various apps including chrome browser, but fire stick 4k max supports wifi6, AV1 video decoding if you care about that.

I prefer my Firestick over my Chromecast.

Got the Fire Stick to bring an old smart tv into the future recently (it got pretty dumb and slow over the years). Was tossing up between it and the Google TV. At half the price of the Google option, the Fire Stick was a no brainer.

I love the Fire Stick. Fast snappy interface, decent wifi connectivity and it ran perfectly fine off the TV's USB port (0.8A) even though it threw up a warning about insufficient power (specs says it needs up to 1A)

    • Always Chromecast. Reason is simple that fire tv does not support chromecast from your devices.

  • Also same price at Amazon AU

  • You need an otg cable to make your mouse working

    • No bluetooth?

      • yes it has bluetooth and works great with a PS4 controller for gaming

Got the Firestick 4k Max at JB Hifi over the weekend for $39 with the JB hifi perks discount.

  • I'm using a Chromecast to stream SBS On Demand and other similar channels from my phone but it's very hit and miss; is the fire stick any better?

  • Firestick 4k Max has the inbuilt audio decoders for people who have receivers that only support dolby digital and has no support for DD+.

  • I have an old non smart TV, what is the advantage of 4k max over lite?

    If someone can advice please.

    • I think you need a 4K TV to appreciate it

      • So lite you reckon should be fine?

        • I think lite will give your TV a good boost, I'm not familiar of the difference between normal and lite though. Depends on your needs. If you're only streaming the classic channels, should be fine :)

    • My TV is not 4K either but I bought the 4K Max firestick anyway bc reviewers said it's snappier with UI as it has better HW. It's just a few bucks more expensive, and you can recoup the difference ticking all the OzB boxes: JB Perks voucher, discounted gift cards, cashbacks, etc.

  • Having said that, I no longer think this is a deal, but simply Amazon's new pricing in their bid to monopolise the streaming market (it's basically dumping).
