50% off at JB Hi-Fi. Seems to be a pretty decent deal specially if you're stacking any perk code to it.

Now to find a $49 Apple TV
Some will be selling around $120 mark on marketplace after recent release. Not far off it’s RRP.
Apple should be spending more time on working with devs and content providers to fix their apps (eg: Netflix, Kayo, Prime) than figuring out the fastest way to kill non-functioning / non-responding apps…
Great deal. Just keep in mind there’s no native Binge or Kayo app. Apparently there’s ways to side load an apk but I haven’t had much luck.
True. But like you mentioned you can send the apk files to the stick and manually install the apps you want.
Sideloaded Bing and works a dream
I would stick with Google.. Bing doesn't give out the best results ;-)
I've got Kayo and other apps sideloaded on my FTV. It's actually quite easy to do and you don't even need to connect to your PC
Firestick is probably ok if you got other amazon devices.
Too many Amazon ads on the home screen I thought? From techspot:
- Amazon needs to chill with the self-promotion
- No Google Play apps (assume can't install the play store)
- The menu system is still too bloated
- Requires inconvenient power adapterWonder if it can run Nord VPN app in the background?
Wonder if it can run Nord VPN app in the background?
You can, I do with all of mine (Kodi + Seren)
Good to know. I've already got a GTV and Google devices, so mostly happy with that. Was just checking for a mate, he's an iPhone user, got an Alexis and an old Apple tv.. testing out the Google TV but the firestick probably easier for him (mostly wants for Kayo though).
It's near impossible changing your country in the Google play Google account back to Australia without an android device.
I could sideload the kayo app but would need to run Aussie VPN all the time. Suggested creating a new Google account, or I could log in on my phone and change country (was USA originally or something).
Both side loading and also installing Kodi 19.4 and Matt Huisman's addons for Kayo, Binge, Foxtel etc are good methods. I prefer to load Kodi and operate inside there to avoid the Amazon advertising.
I found installing to the FTV easiest after installing wireless file manager (available in the Utilities section of Amazon App store), simply run it, open the ip address in a PC browser and do it all from there.
Native is always easier than all the stuffing around..
Having said that still sideloaded a few apps to GTV (HBO etc) using apkmirror and send file to tv, enable developer options to install.
How is this with plex?
Great
Works perfect with Jellyfin too
Yep sometimes better than my gtv 4k
Literally no loading, vs PS5 for example.
Kodi good
Now to get Amazon free delivery for similar price
I imagine Amazon will match or even beat this price as part of their Black Friday sales - we can only wait in hope…
$39 with perks. I don't think Amazon will beat this price
Please correct me if I'm mistaken, Perks is a one-off discount, right?
@HagridNip: They must be talking about the one off $10 sign up coupon which most would have used.
@HagridNip: Not just a one off. Yes you get one on sign up but now and again they send out another which I have yet to use.

Buy $50 gift card with CBA, then use perks voucher to bring price down to $39 and pay $39 from gift cards.
Excellent deal.
I have one of these, for every TV in the house with jellyfin media player connecting to my server, I also use them for retro gaming and play n64 and ps2 games on them with a BT controller. I would wait for black Friday as they tend to do cheaper.
I found the latency to be too high using xbox controllernor 8bitdo,
Do you get this too?
old post but you may see it and it may help
ages ago on mobile I had to manually adjust the emulators refresh rate to match the screens refresh rate, once i did that all the lag I was experiencing was gone. pretty sure i was using retroarch.
How do we install retro gaming to this? Which controller do you use?
I got one last BF. So can't run jellyfin server (or plex for that matter) our of them, is that right? I ended up going back to Kodi streaming from a USB on the router.
I use jellyfin client on it no problem
And the client manages the NAS library?
@wisdomtooth: No. That’s the server.
@PainToad: Which can't be run on the stick, right? So it needs to run on yet another box. What for, when one can simply have KODI stream straight out of flash drive attached to the router??
@wisdomtooth: Most people are running Sonarr/Radarr on a server for automated downloads anyway. But sure, if you still doing it early 2000s manual style. Also, a flash disk? You mustn’t have much content?
@PainToad: Ha, Sonarr/Radarr is what I used to run in the early 2000s!! 😄
Not ever since Stremio. So, yeah, I just use the flash drive (256GB) for the kids cartoons, as they are the only ones that get repeat views.
@wisdomtooth: I think you’re think of Sickbeard.
@PainToad: Yeah, SB (or SR) too. That and CouchPotato. Very 2010s! 😄
Are these any good for plex? What’s the performance like ?
Works great
This Amazon 4k max is so much faster than Google tv. And the best part is that it has an inbuilt browser which is missing in google tv along with wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
Amazon AU is officially running its black friday sales on this stick as well. Same price and free delivery
Also much prefer this remote to the slippery GTV one
Stack with JB Hifi Perks $10
Stick lite vs normal fire stick? Is it worth getting the 4k version on a non 4k tv? Imagine the cpu might be faster?
Yes
Yes, the 4k Max is a faster unit overall
Anyone experiencing random crash with the device?
Nope working fine here
Are you using the original power adapter?
Anyone have a spare perk code you could pm me?
Is this similar to Chromecast? I'm behind in tech..benefits of this over it?
Just different and cheaper, maybe look at some articles like this to get an idea
https://www.techspot.com/products/audio-video/amazon-fire-tv…The GTV works well for vol control on/off etc using HDMI arc for TV, soundbar and the chromecast fairly well.
I was about to pull the trigger until i read it has a power adapter.
yeah, a standard USB C should be industry standard, great when travelling not to have too many proprietary adapters and charging bricks etc.
ps. have ordered one of these to expand the storage with USB stick. Not really necessary yet but was considering loading roms and retroarch
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09JNMRWZJ/ref=ppx_yo_d…pc works, but haven't tested a nas startup directory using the GTV app yet- guess can configure it but usb stick prob easier.
@G-rig: I thought the Max only had micro usb out?
@chinaman: Max?
Just bought one off Amazon $49
Thanks OP. Got one.
Cube is on sale also.

Stack with a 15% off TCN card from Coles for $41.65?
Not expired
Not a deal either; just the new price, as Amazon endeavours to monopolise yet another market: streaming.
