They making it hard to earn points.

    • oh well I have been using bing for like 4+ years and im at 68k points that i havent spent yet. Good to know they increased their offereings. It use to only be $5 gift card options only. Looks like they have increased to $5-$custom for some

For reference I redeemed a $30 Amazon GC for 30810 points last year in August.

    • How long does it take you to get that many points?

      • +1

Hard to say, I'm at 734 points this month so maybe ~3000 a month?

No purchases, I just do all of the challenges on https://rewards.bing.com/ and I have set Bing as my default search (it's fine).

      • 3 months for me.

I've been getting 13k minimum and ~15k some months.

        13,186 in Sep 2024 and 15,256 in Jan 2025 as min/max range.

Microsoft has been rejigging the Rewards program recently, so that could change at any moment.

  • +3

With such huge cuts to the amount of rewards points we can gain per day, it's rather surprising to find Microsoft staying on top of exchange rates.

  • +2

    This is excellent.

For a sense of scale that's remarkably easy, I've been saving for GTA6 since I'll buy it digital but can't stomach digital prices.

I was a hundred or two points away from 100 AUD in Xbox credit a day or two back. Let's just say 100 I was that close.

I can now cash in $127 Xbox dollars, so it's 1.27x what it was a couple of days ago, more than a quarter percent increase.

Let's hope it doesn't revert before I can put a preorder down :/

    • I'm pretty sure it's a permanent, they did a similar thing last year and it stayed.

      • I wonder if they've historically reverted or worsened redemption rates, might have to to hit the MS Reward reddit sometime.

        • $5 was 3,755 points just prior to this.

They reduced it to 3,755 from much higher, last year (?) and that was the first time MSFT have adjusted the Reward Points exchange rate.

          • +1

@GreenLego: Checking my redemption history, before the drop last year $5 MS GCs used to be 4750 points and $5 partner GCs were 6750 points.

    • Nice one! Here I was getting outraged about the redemption rates - I've had Game Pass Ultimate for 1.5 years now and I've only managed to accumulate 353 points. Not even worth clicking those claim points notifications :/

      • -1

It is though! Especially on Game Pass because you get even more points (I don't know how many, I haven't bothered with Game Pass since like 2023 when my last discount ran out). They lowered the points by 100 per week recently (last couple months) which is ass, but I have 4 accounts on my Xboxes, mine, the missus', the 9 year old's, and we made one for the 2 year old who does (profanity) around with the machine but mostly because MS Rewards for him.

Every day you play a game for 15 or more minutes, you get 10 points if you click that notification. If you do that 5 times a week you get 150 bonus points. 5x10+150=200. Four and a bit weeks in a month, 800 and change points every month right there. Is that on it's own anything special? Not really. It's when you branch out, if you swap to instead of Google you can get 90 odd points every day (and another 60) on your phone for just searching shit like you more than likely already do in your day to do, between phone and laptop I probably get around a hundred points a day, give or take.

100x7, plus that 200 before, is 900 now per week. Add in the daily activities which for the last year or so really mean click, close, get points, and you have another 30 per day, which again, is nothing much but when you stick with it you get 150 bonus points every ten day streak of it, so 150x3 (30 days in a month) is another 450 points per month. When you stick all of those together you've got around a good thousand points a week and all you've done is tick the box that says you played a game, and swapped from Google to Bing.

What I do is, so the Xbox is on every day, it is, at the moment the 2 year old enjoys flying around in a helicopter, Fortnite, Vice City, doesn't matter, he's just in a helicopter phase. So I'll sign all 4 of us in, and then we'll all get those game points. My personal account is the one that does Binging and stuff, it obviously has the most, but all the others get the weekly points with basically zero extra effort, a few seconds a week. Even the boy's account, which I only started a couple of months ago, has about 10 bucks on it with the new conversion amount. My 9 year old's has a bit over 30 bucks on it at the moment (but she's made redemptions in the past, and has been on MS Rewards for a couple years now) and the other week the missus' cashed in 20 something for The Quarry and a couple other games.

Moral of the story, there's points to be made, and if you grind you can get a lot more (I can't be stuffed grinding), but swapping from Google to Bing is a huge one, do that, and you'll be taking in a decent number of points in the background without noticing. You won't get enough to get a free Xbox any time soon, but you can definitely get some free smaller games and stuff here and there.

Ah crap! I just converted $216 worth of Amazon Giftcards at the old rate :(

    • When was this? I'm very curious when the changes were put in place.

        01/14/2025

        • Wow, that's recent.

You mean 14/01/2025. None of that Yankee stuff here please.

  • Can someone work out if paying for Game Pass is cheaper with credit this way than the 35,000 points for 3 months normal?

    • It depends on what other Game Pass deals are available at the moment, 35000 points is ~$43.50 in Amazon GCs.

Edit: 3 months of GPU is currently $38.72 through Eneba.

    • 3 months core is 15k. After conversion 2/3 would be better by 5k points and 1 month gpu.

      • The conversion isnt 2/3 any more.. they changed that a while back, they nerfed everything to the point that there's no more benefit, you have to spend about ~11,333 per month points regardless of what way you try to do it

        • +1

          That's still kinda OK then.

I got 15,256 in Rewards Points during Jan 2025. 13,480 in Dec 2024.

          • @GreenLego: Are any(many?) of those points from purchases?? I've been struggling to get to 11K a month after the nerfs. Admittedly they have recently improved things a bit for us in Aus with the now console + pc weekly streaks

            • +1

@Iggemo: Perhaps, but I didn't think you got much for purchases? I exchanged some points for $14 credit, and another exchange to get $5 during Dec and Jan.

I did get 1,000 from completing the puzzle pieces in Jan, which only happens every few months.

They did nerf is a lot, but increased slightly in Jan from playing in streaks.

Xbox $5 gift card is only 2940 or using monthly auto redeem is 2,705.

Anyone know if this is a sale or permanent new rates?

It's also worth noting credit purchased this way has a short expiry.

  • +1

Interesting to note that redemptions to my outlook.com account ended up in Junk lol

    • +3

Same, good old Microsoft let through spam daily but the one they actually block… Is their own 😆

  • +2

If you are level 2, the xbox cards become 2940 points.

    • +1

      How do you level up?

      • You can check the FAQ here: https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Rewards
In the "How do I level up?" one, it says "Microsoft Rewards has two status tiers: Level 1 and Level 2. Earn and keep Level 2 status by reaching 500 Microsoft Rewards points each month – no matter how you earn points, they all count toward your status. You can see your level benefits at https://rewards.bing.com/status/levelbenefits . "
But just to let you know, the level resets each start of the month by putting you back down to level one. But it's pretty easy to re-earn those points to level back up. :)

      • Just use edge, specifically bing and you will hit the point requirement.

  • Mmm, yeah, I saw this a couple of days ago. It made me super happy because I'd been saving up and was able to get more giftcards than I needed, even though I had still been saving.

  • amazing OP, just redeemed $20 coles giftcard
