Maybe I’m stubborn, but I love the buttons on my kindle oasis.
At least the first generation kindle colour seems to be garbage so I’m not tempted to upgrade… yet.

It’s a great price though. Kindles are awesome especially with kindle unlimited and/or calibre send to email.

      Kobo Libra Colour

Best of both worlds, just no amazon and $100 more.

    • Yeah its why I got a Kobo Libra instead of a Clara, I like the buttons and have disabled tap to change page many less accidental page turns now.

i thought kindles were kind of redundant in the age of tablets till i used one. great if you specifically want to read and far superior to the tablet experience

    • Same. I LOVE my kindle oasis and don’t know what I’m going to do when it breaks

I can't wait for more manufactures flooding the market with cheaper eink displays now that the patent has expired. off topic, i would love a cheap 27inch eink display as a second monitor

I bought my first Kindle in 2022, but never used it

are you me? Do you also have the $40 nokia dual sim from catch in a drawer?

Don't forget kids, adding your own ebooks to a Kindle is easy. Just use Send to Kindle https://www.amazon.com/sendtokindle and upload to that page or from that page download the app for windows or Mac and just right click your ebooks and choose "send to kindle".

Any book enough people want to read can be found online if you look hard enough. Obscure niche stuff, less likely it's easily found though.

You can just email the files to your kindle address.

      EG [email protected]
(if that is your kindle email address)

      • Yup, all that info is on the link too. There's other options as well like mobile but I don't know how they work.

Also Kindle natively supports ePub now, which makes acquiring and reading ebooks a lot easier.

    • Ahhh mIRC, how you changed my life…

  • I am the only one not seeing the value in these things?
I have an older one but only paid around $100 for it.
But I bought an ipad 9 a couple of months back with a 10" screen for only a hundred or so more dollars than this and have the kindle app on it.

No surprise the uneducated don’t see the value in reading.

      • Best own-goal this year, well done!

You know you can read books using the kindle app don't you?

The Kindle uses electronic ink, it looks just like a printed page. And unlike LCD displays on tablets and phones which are back lit, the Kindle is front lit, so using a Kindle is like reading a real book in perfect lighting. And it's waterproof. And the battery life is extremely long on a Kindle.

    • The older one is painfully slow and has micro USB.

The newer one is fast enough and has USB-C. The colour temperature can be adjusted to make the screen look warmer. It has a bigger screen so it's slightly less portable.

Side loading books is still a pain. Documents intended to be printed on A4 look small. Perhaps an app can try to fix it… this is where something like an iPad or physical paper is better.

      • And they have a colour version in America, so colour book covers
