Update… all gone at Coles Sandringham! I just saw an Indian couple come in and clean out the shelf. It reason's like this that makes people not want to post where they see them. Would be nice if they let others grab some rather than take 20 plus in one go 🙄

  • +1

For QLD people Coles upper mt gravatt is supposed to have approx 200 of the $250 cards at their service desk still. The missus grabbed 5 yesterday and 5 more today for us

    • Assume they will be sold out today as the shopping day.

  • +4

Hundreds of $250 at coles kellyville

Easy to do multiple of 5 with different self checkouts and self serve staff

  • Can I pay my council rates with this through the phone?

Doesn't seem o can use these online for many things.

    • Can confirm it can be used on Council online payment.

    • I paid all my rates online, different councils.

  • OK managed to score 5 $250 cards. First time i have managed to score $250 cards lol. Thanks OP

  • Will I be able to pay my Brisbane City Council rates bill with this at Australia Post? BCC say "You can pay your rate account in person using your rate account or payment card. Australia Post accepts cash, EFTPOS (excluding credit card) or cheque." Is this treated as a debit card or a credit card?

    • +2

No you can't. I tried twice with different staff who did try very hard. This card is treated as credit card rather than debit card. But you can pay online with a fee which will be added to your next BCC rates notice.

  • Is it possible to buy these Coles gift cards and immediately convert them to woollies gift cards? If not, what are some other alternatives to switch these cards out to? I don't want to risk the chance of getting a hacked gift card and deal with the hassle down the road

    • +1

Yeah, but have to link it via Paypal first, and then pay with Paypal. Can't pay direct.

Looking at the wiki, 4% is as good as you will get these days on Woolies Egift cards?

      • How do you link a limited-value card to Paypal? Do you just add the $250 card as a funding source and then spend exactly $250? Or is there a way to have it only take $250 out of a specific card?

        • +1

Just add it like any old mastercard.

      • I paid direct to WW's gift card website. No need for Paypal.

    • +2

yes, you can either buy woolies gift cards at 4% discount online or buy Shopback Super Swap gift cards at 2% cashback and converted to Coles or Woolies giftcards when you need them. You can also prepay utilities bills and council rates.

  • Do you still earn FF points for this Coles MC gift card?

    • I did scan yesterday but it does not in flybuys account yet, may be will take few days.

      • The FF points came through now so yes it has FF points.

    • +1

Last time, I did get flybuys points (which appeared instantly).

      • Yes for previous deal. Not sure about this one. I reckon no point to scan FF card if it does not earn points.

      • Flybuys pts never instant; fuel voucher is now, which can be an indicator.

        • +1

          Free coffee 4 me.

    • +2

I got the 1157 points for the 5*250$ cards I bought Yesterday morning. It reflected in my Flybuys just few minutes ago.

  • I used these to buy Ultimate gift cards on Amazon and Amazon flagged my account. Got 1 Ultimate gift card ($271.74 value) but the other one looks like it’s getting cancelled.

  • Thank you to a fellow member here, I was able to find some $250 cards in SA!

Coles had a bonus offer for me 5x points, so an extra $50 in points.

      • +4

I only bought 5, and you bought 75?

I think the odds are in your favour to get hacked mate.

        • I only bought 5, and you bought 75

Just shows how jealous they became of your 5x offer.

BTW, shouldn't it be $28.9125 back in points unless you bought more cards?

          • @DoctorCalculon: You're right!

Actually there was 20+ $250 cards there, and k went to another Coles and there was loads of $100s.

Just depends on the store, or maybe a restock? Nothing around my area.

    • +2

Bonus points normally don't apply to gift cards unless it's specifically mentioned.

  • +2

For those who can't find the lucrative $250 cards, a decent alternative is buying the $100 cards (at $94.50) with a HSBC 2% cashback card. 7.39% effective discount. The obvious problem is you can only buy one card at a time.

    • +1

But if you can find the $250 do split pay and make it 9%

  • +2

thanks. just bought a 5 at knox westfiled from a very rude old woman who sternly says in an old lady voice "you can only buy 5 today, no more!". i wasn't even attempting to buy more and i could if i wanted to as I am not alone. What a karen

    • +2

This deal seems to bring out the worst in the older lady long time employees. You would think they were shareholders.

    • -3

Good thing you came on here to tell everyone, that surely showed her.

    • +2

Ahh Karen, love that racist stereotype.

      • -1

Karen is hardly racist, it is stereotypical.

  • +1

Can these use on google pay? Is ok for 1 but then no success after that
Found it Many above said NO.

  • Do we need to input a random pin while using these cards on the EFTPOS machine or just press Enter without the pin?
Having trouble using these cards to buy Coles and Myer GCs.

    • +1

I just select credit and press enter. Not sure if it works to buy Coles and Myer GCs.
The first PIN you enter will be set as your PIN for future transactions.

      • Will give that a go, thanks.

    • +3

Enter any 4 digit pin. The first time you enter it you set the PIN for the card

    • The first time you use the card, You can key any PIN and that will set be set as the PIN for that specific card going forwards if you make subsequent transactions. If you don't key a PIN and just press enter you'll be asked to sign. Given most people don't sign their gift cards, you may have to go through the explanation of it being a gift card etc if someone tries to compare the signature.

      • +1

        Thanks

      • +3

I had one lady, at Coles check my drivers licence. I said she was being ridiculous as it’s a gift card. Now I avoid her checkout.

        • +4

The same thing happened to me but it ended up being a bit of light entertainment for the checkout person.

The first time I used the card and didn't set up a PIN so the sign receipt printed, I signed and then they actually asked to check the gift card. Obviously I hadn't signed it but before I could tell them it was a gift card they turned it over and asked to make sure the name on the card matched my ID. We all had a laugh when they realised it was a gift card and the name was "A gift for you".

    • You can also set a PIN online

    • -1

First time you enter a pin if you like, from then on out that becomes the pin

  • tried to add the $250 card to TPG direct debit payment. it rejected.

    • I had a utility let me add it as a direct debit payment, but then it failed when the payment date came around.

  • +2

Just did a loop around central/inner north west Perth for some $250s:

North Perth - good stock of $250s at the service desk. Max 5 cards.

West Leederville - $250 OOS when I called - They did say they had $100s.

Marketlane Subiaco - $250s at the Service desk. Max 4 cards and she sold them to me in two transactions of 1 card and then of 3 cards. I didn't ask for this, she just did it this way for some reason.

Floreat Forum - $250 OOS when I called. Did not mention if they had any $100s.

Raine Square - $250s hanging on the gift card wall but only about 3-4 left. I think they may be keeping them behind the service desk and drip feeding them out. Max 5 cards.

    • ^ max 4 cards to be under the $1000 supervisor limit i suspect

      • +2

She could have just done 4 cards and then 1 card in that case though. Each transaction still under $1000.

        • +1

Oh sorry, i missed that bit - yeah, strange!

          • @kickling: Makes a bit of sense. Maybe she thought with the fee it would be over $1000 and needed supervisor? Though I’ve always bought 5 and never needed a supervisor. Woolies was $1500 and it triggers supervisor and if it’s over $2000 has to be the store manager! The day I found that out was a pain! She wasn’t there.

    • Marketlane Subiaco -
did u get them? i went there yesterday and they said no stock

      • Yep. Got 4 of them today around 13:00. They were at the service counter. The staff member pulled them out of a pile but it wasn't super large. Maybe they only received one box today?

  • Seems like can't use these cards to pay QLD rego online as it doesn't allow split payment. Can I use multiple cards to pay for it in person at TMR office, or use Post Billpay at PO?

    • +2

Back in June I used these cards to pay 3 different QLD rego bills at my local post offices with about 10 cards in total.
Many people have reported that their local post offices were unwilling or possibly didn't know how to do this. Might come down to how your local franchisee feels about doing it but their system will definitely allow it.

I've just copy and pasted my comment from the June deal below for anyone who needs the details of how it worked:

They scanned the barcode on the bottom of my rego renewal email and were happy to split the payment. Asked how I was paying and I just said credit card where they advised I would have to pay the credit card surcharge of 0.52% for Mastercard and then asked how I wanted to split the payments. My total rego was $345.95 and since neither me nor the AusPost person were sure how the surcharge was going to be applied I just split it as $200 and $145.95 across 2x$250 cards. I expected it to apply evenly on both payments but checking my card balances now it has been charged as $200 on the first card and then $147.75 ($145.95+$1.80 fee) on the second card.

When I went back to pay the second and third rego renewals I did them as $250+$250 and then the whole surcharge was charged on the last transaction so it was $(balance)+total 0.52% surcharge on the whole amount.

      • Thanks for sharing your experience and glad it worked!

So for example, if your rego is $600, you will pay 2x $250 (full amount) cards first, and then pay $100(balance) + 0.52%x $600 on the third card? Is that correct from my understanding?

And does it mean that any bill with "PostBill" barcode can do split payment at post office?

        • +1

          Yep. That's the correct.

To the part about other bills. Maybe?

Firstly, the original biller probably needs to accept credit card payment in the first place. I don't know if you can circumvent not being able to pay by credit card by using AusPost. I think they just act as the intermediary payment processor the same way that Square/BPoint/Shopify do for other retailers and services. They don't set the terms and conditions of the merchant they just handle the money.

Second, I guess you have to find a post office willing to do split payments or at least try it. You'll probably just have to give it a go and see if it works? If I get any >$250 bills I'll go to my local post office that let me do split payments and try it I guess.

Update - QLD Rego Split Payment

I paid my Qld rego at local post office with these cards successfully today. My rego is $773.55 for 12 months and I could use split payment with 4x$250 cards. Paid $250 each with first 3 cards, then paid the balance of $23.55 + $4.00 (0.52% surcharge for credit card) on the 4th card.

The payment with first card did not show "credit" account on EFTPOS, so make sure you tell the staff you are paying with credit card (I think she selected a normal debit card option or something). But it all worked in the end!

I started to believe all post offices can do split payments as their systems are the same, unless the staff is unwilling to do or does not know how to do it. Good luck peeps!

          • @hohoisme: Yes they do split payments
However their policies state that they do not allow any type of prepaid card so ymmv .

            • @easternculture: I guess the Coles MC is prepaid but can be used as credit card? Umm….

              • @hohoisme: Thats the policy

I have seen it with my own eyes when i was once refused and demanded proof

                • @easternculture: So you mean we can't use these cards as split payments for bills at PO because they are not supposed to accept them?

                  • @hohoisme: Yep. Just hold a credit card over it

                    • @easternculture: Lucky the post office that I went to didn't stop me using them when I told the staff to pay $250 on each card… But will be careful next time

          • @hohoisme: Thanks , worked at Springfield PO . Rego $699.05 + $3.64 processing fee paid by splitting among 3x$250 cards

  • +2

Just walked past Coles World Square and can see they still have plenty of $250s and $100s at the service desk.

    • All out now

  • +1

For anyone in Bupa you can use these cards to pay up to a year ahead and avoid the Nov1 price rise

    • How about medibank

      • If you can pay online should be no problem.

        • yep, it works and their FAQ also says that the rate is locked in before price hike.

    • Online?

    • +1

It seems that bupa has changed how you prepay for your insurance online. Before, I used to just enter the amount how much I want to pay, now when I try to prepay, it asks me until when do I want to be covered and it will show the amount I need to pay. With the latter, it seems that you will end up paying more if you prepay a few months worth of cover at a time (to be able use the $250 coles card) than paying the whole year's cover.

      • Agee that you will pay extra but the maths still add up.

        Our premium $6834.60. yearly

        13 days is the max I can pay using $250 cards = 28 payments @ $242.06 plus one day @ $18.78 =$6852.46
Equates to a surcharge of $18 odd being .26% which is way better than most surcharges.
Given the total saving is at least 10% (the Amex purchase points are worth at least 2%) it still seems a good deal despite the $18.00 surcharge.

        • Yeah, kinda annoying compared to the past wherein you can just enter the amount you want to pay ($xx premium per month mutltiply by how many months you want to be covered) and date covered will just update accordingly.

I'll see if I could go instore and show them the amount I need to pay on my account and do a split payment there instead. Lol.

          • @Ernestpogi: You can do split payments on the phone but it takes forever and there is no

way they would manually do 20 payments.

Another easy use would be to prepay your Origin bill

or risk keeping them if you have an Apple device in mind and use them to buy the Apple promo discounted cards from Woolies.

Combined with a price match your looking at nearly 30% off at an Apple store.

Woolies have the Myer 10% bonus on atm so you could buy those for nearly 20% off a Myer Gift card.

  • +2

Can confirm you can pay with coles gift card
Then use the mastercard to buy discounted gift cards 2% off , then rinse and repeat

    • the plot thickens

    • Manned checkout right?

      • +3

        Self checkout
Just pretend to have credit card in one hand, under it is the gift card

        • How do you do that with Coles digital egift card?
Additionally do you choose gift card option on the terminal?

          • +1

@vasya: Choose gift card at terminal, scan on small black scanner (same one you use for flybuys barcode), enter pin on pos

    • +1

Can you pay with multiple GCs in a single transaction? Highest value I can find is a $500 on redeemyourgiftcard

      • I just pay each itself so i have activation reciept individual

You cant split payment gift cards with gift cards

        • in $100 lots?

          • +3

            @shap08: $100 for $100MC GC or >$250 for $250 MC GC

            • @easternculture: now it really is 10% off

              • @shap08: I believe we call this next level gift card inception

                • @easternculture: Put through 3k worth on Coles GCs worked flawlessly, even had to go through a cashier and wasn't questioned on using a GC to buy a GC lmao

                  • @mrfuku: Depends on the person.
The young ones dont care and likely here on ozbargain
Its the older cranky generation that try and enforce every policy in the manual lol
