@King Tightarse: There is. Read through this thread.

          • +1

@King Tightarse: Probably still driving a 1998 lancer as still gets him from A to B

            • +1

@Mr RS: Yep. Its pretty stupid buying a newer economical car to save $18 on fuel per fill. Not worth the time

  • a lot in Adelaide CBD coles

  • Managed to get 5 x $250 of these…yipee!

Any good suggestions for disposing off of these quickly to hopefully not get hacked?

    • +6

Yep about 13 pages of ideas so far…

    • +2

tax, health fund, gift cards, bills,

      • -1

@impoze, thanks for the suggestions. Fortunately my tax position is a refund, so no expenses there, no medical insurance. Although I seem to have found a fee free method to pump debit card straight into my Aussie bank account. Now just waiting to see the cash appear in my account so I can go ahead and repeat :)

Finding things to spend on are quite tricky

        • -1

          What’s the work around?

  • can these cards be put on hold? need to call?

    • -3

Yep. Grab a few and take home for next day purchace

  • There seem to be a lot available this time as they are restocking daily now.
It would be great to stock up 20 or 30 of the $250 for Christmas, but the hacking risk is real and the hassle to get them refunded if hacked is major.
Is anybody taking the risk medium/long term or just buying enough to use straight away?

    • +1

use them up straight away, buy other gift cards or pay bills

    • Don't risk it.

    • Yeah I know some have been hacked.
My 30ish from June I’ve actually got one left didn’t have any issues.

BUT Christmas is a time scammers off all sorts come out of the woodwork.
Use what you can, convert to other giftcards etc.

Car service, new tyres, power bill, coles/Woolworths giftcards etc

  • -5

managed to buy $250 gift card after running around most of western & east sydney …. but they finished now … ! most stores finished ..> !

hopefully next time coles give out $1000 gift card instead of $250 so people don't need to buy 70 but instead only by 25 or whatever they need in my opinion.. !

also hopefully no one hacks it this time around (i already spend on debt so just need confirmation from agency that they received it - 3/5 day processing time some how).

    • +1

there are hundreds of the $250 in kellyville coles

      • i will try that tomorrow morning first thing … ! Thanks if i get it … !

need some more to pay council bill and probably gift card on woolworths & kmart :D

      • You killed the fun staff even missed out of it last night after 4pm all disappeared after someone gave hint on ozbargain …!

        Couldn't find any this morning:(

    • How do you know "finished"? I am pretty sure stock will be reserved for weekend shoppers.

      • well that's what one of the staff said when i asked is new stock coming and they said "I wish … nothing is coming as our allocated cards finished" …

however, i agree it must be with staff saving for family & friend … :(

that is why this type of scheme should be on $1000 cards as no point picking up 10 cards worth $100 to make $1000… !

        • promo runs until Tuesday.

  • Let's take a step back - how exactly does Coles profit off of this scheme? All I can reasonably see is marketing/publicity. Is there a catch I am missing? Unlikely physical products, surely the cost here wouldn't be anything less than $250 for it to be actually sold.

Doing some Google search - probs they'd expect not everyone uses the card fully and some will misplace the cards. Also, the merchant sort of collects an upfront deposit. Convinced but partially.

    • +2

Breakage and as a marketing/loss leader.

      • +1

Yep, a known percentage is never redeemed. Lost cards and/or unused remainder balance.
Also got themselves (presumably) free primetime coverage

        • +1

Same concept as gym memberships, except for the loss leader part

        • Boost up revenues. Selling cash for cash.

          • @a1234my: @a1234my whoops, incidentally you got an idea. It might be less of boosting revenue but more of incurring a loss on GC sales but the GC division actually makes a profit on breakage, and Coles get free marketing, looks like a winner now!

    • It will be earning them a fair bit otherwise why would they keep doing it :)

      • Earning loyalty and gratitude from customers for far more return business.

  • Does anyone know how shopback works in regards to letting people use these Coles MC gift cards… once you get the can't add card for security reasons, does it unblock or reset after awhile?

    • Wondering the same thing

      • +1

I believe it resets per day

  • +1

GREAT !!! Just opened a new gc $100 that I purchased in Aug, someone has used it $98 for a massage ! To dispute it, have to call, fill out, sign a form and it could take up to 90 days to resolve ! Can't believe that it happens to me. And… the massage place is located in Los Angeles !

    • +12

That sucks. I hope you get a happy ending.

      • Any massage place will require payment on site with physical card, I believe. How it can make sense if they don't agree to refund this as I am in Australia ?

        • Hi is it called Healthy/Happy Land Massage by any chance. One of my $250 cards had $218 taken around August and a few people have reported their cards being hacked by this "massage parlour" as well. Heritage Bank are aware of it

          • @rockybalboa: Thats it !

          • @rockybalboa: How do you know that there are other people report the same ?

            • @yht: They reported it on the previous post about this card or maybe the Vanilla Card.

            • @yht: Hey, there were posts about it back in August. I contacted Heritage complaints number which is listed on the packing slip on the card. And they sent my replacement card in 1-2 wks. I agree with the other comments that we should use our cards as quickly as possible and not stock up.

          • +1

@rockybalboa: Its probably a money laundring front

            • @easternculture: Surely they can block the shop after few people reporting the fraudulent activity !

    • Use them right away.
I usually buy prezzee gift cards with them.
But i have 2k council rates and some bills to pay so will use them all by monday

  • +2

    Stores now rationing them! :(

Arrive and signs say ask at counter.

Ask at counter and how many my wife and i would like.
    5 each please!

Then get told its now 5 per household!

Def no broden here but come on Coles!

    • +4

those are the times when I disown my wife and say the staff that we are not related to each other.

    • +1

Very difficult to find $250s now..they really need to restock. VIC.

    • +4

Actually staff were looking at me like I am stealing card from them …and they followed me all the way to the self checkout and then stand next to me watching…

It was not enough they even dare asking me are you coming again? I said No…and they then ask their superiors is this person coming again…it is not funny but I was made to felt like I am taking card free from their own pocket honestly…

      • +1

        So are you going again?

        • -2

not the same store for sure but i have same experience in 3 coles while 1 store staff were very cool… didn't bother or look at you like you are stealing something from their personal wealth :D

i don't want to sound racist but wherever i see aussie staff they are cool but where there aren't aussie staff the problem exist …. now i won't name race to offend anyone.

          just a note - i am not aussie either :D so don't judge me .. !

    • +1

I saw a Chinese couple grab a large amount off the shelf, count out 5 each then put the rest in their bag to take home.

      • +3

This kind of behaviour just gives everyone buying these (regardless of ethnicity/race) a bad name.

Bring your kid, your mother in law, your parents, even your pet galah. But taking them home (unactivated) is just poor form.

      • What can they do with the cards in the bag?

        • +2

they come back next day with 5 cards each and pay, or just go straight to next coles

  • +5

Awesome actually managed to get 10x $250 (the manager agreed to put some aside for me when she realised I'd visited 3x already and missed out even though they were putting them out almost daily) and as a bonus I paid in $99.95 increments using my HSBC card alternating between card and Google pay and got the 2% without any issues cleared today. Awesome rent paid for a couple months lol

5 each me and my girlfriend for anyone wondering how I got more than 5btw

  • +3

My local store knows me as I am in there normally 3 times a week, so far only been "questioned" twice and they simply don't understand the benefit in buying these cards.

The nicer staff I say it's simply a 8% (approx) discount, so if your power bill is $1250 I'm actually paying $1150 (approx) saving about $100.

Some sorta get it, some don't

  • i failed to use vanilla card to purchase coles master card— system doesn't allow me to do this

not sure anyone tried to use coles master to buybotseld as a loop?

    • just tried and failed

  • +3

Some ladies let me through before them, they offered.

I explained, and I said there's 20+ cards there and neither of them cared.

Most people don't have the money to outlay, or they make enough money not to care about saving 7% off a few K

Literally not a single friend I have who earns over 100-150k gives a crap about saving a small amount of money. They focus on earning more, so everyone's different.

    • +2

Council Rates $3500 for me yearly, and I'll happily save $300 plus by spending an hour buying a few gift cards !

      • -1

Council Rates $3500 for me yearly

You must either live in a mansion, or a really expensive area in Melbourne.

      • +1

We got a high roller here
        $2k and im complaining lol

    • +4

Some earn 100k per year and finish with 140k thanks to these promotions 😏

      • +1

😏 is that you mr magic

        • +1

Mesnt 104k, Never woukd i be that greedy

  • -1

honestly, i don't understand why people are so obsess about this card, i mean if you are willing to pay tax 15k, you need to have at least 60pcs of $250 card, and the chance to purchase cards limits, 5 cards each store, which means you need to go to 12 stores to get 60 cards, not including if the cards are not available, neither the store manager not allowed you to purchased the card for more than 3 cards. Then, 15k tax that you got to pay, you only save $1.125 (let's say equal to working about 30 hours), but you forget the anxiety of the cards are being hacked, so you could lose money, let say there is 10% cards are being hack in between 60 cards, meaning you lost 6 cards, so you lost $1500 value, waiting until The Heritage Bank return it back to you. Hence, imo, it is not worth of the risk. This saving method triggers me too much anxiety rather than feeling happier.

    • +2

Some stores have plenty of supply, and multiple checkout areas with multiple staff

Not hard to get more than 5 at a time…

Use up the cards straight away and little risk of hack, the cards are only activated after checkout

    • Good point that why I decided not to buy 40 card to pay my debt …! Tooo much risk if someone hack it.

    • +2
      • if you live next to a couple of Coles (majority of us would) who normally have cards over the counter you can easily get 60 cards over 2 or 3 days. The number of cards is really arbitrary here but 60 isn't that actually that hard to get if you put the effort in
      • $1,125 isn't the right value because its post Tax money. Its actually $1,125/(tax bracket percentage) = Money you have to earn. It's more like $1,650 which on average is probably 1.25 weeks of FT work (depending on your salary)
      • The risk of getting hacked increases the longer you hold onto the cards. 10% is probably a value only if you hold onto the card for a month or so. The aim here is buy and pay straight away. You can pay off I think 9 cards a day? So your percentage of getting hacked is quite low especially if you buy 15 a day.
      • For ATO you can use 10 cards per day.

        • How ? I was only able to use 4 and 5 on EasyPay

          • +1

@Lovesfreebies: Sometimes that can happen, but I have done 5 plus 5 many times and WookieMonster has also said 10 in total. Try again may have better luck.

          • +2

@Lovesfreebies: I have been using 5 and 5 for last few days without a issue

      • are you saying that as long as you got the coles mastercard, you spend it all in one day and do the same thing in the next day, what about the time when you got 20 gc for a day and you can only spend 10gc to pay the tax. How are you going to save the rest of 10gc from hacker

        • You are probably overestimating the efficiency of these hackers.

        • the chance of getting hacked within 24 hours is probably less than 1%, most of the people that get hacked have had the card sitting around for a month+

    • +2

60x cards are not hard to get at all if you put in some effort, and find a few stores with adequate stock.

Go with 2x people, and go 2x times a day change of clothes etc.

I will save 1285 or so paying my 12.5k taxbill, and thats all tax free.

      • even in NSW?

  • Was very keen to buy but got cold feet (so far) after hearing about some who had problems with their card, in earlier deals . Well done to those who went ahead and bought and had no issues. Still considering.

    • +1

I check-out of Coles and within a couple minutes have used them to purchase Shopback Superswap GCs to avoid issues. You could consider trying that (?)

      • I thought these were blocked on Shopback ?

        • +3

No, not in general, most recently I entered a new one as payment method on Thursday morning and purchased another GC at Shopback. However, Shopback will block you from adding one if you have added too many new cards as a payment method within a short period of time.

      • +1

Thanks for suggestion @Tenzin Still few days left for deal; so might go in for something of the sort

  • +1

I normally take a picture of cards with receipt just in case I need to raise a case later. Luckily no cards have been hacked…. yet…..

  • Who sells a $1000 prepaid visa or mastercard? I want to consolidate as my home insurance is 700 and my car service 650 and neither allow split payments. The$1000 prepaid card needs to be able to be purchased with split payments.

    • +1

Call up your insurance company, they made do it over the phone or try in store?

    • +1

I cannot think of a single brick and mortar retailer that sells a $1,000 prepaid Visa or Mastercard gift card.

      • OnlyONE Visa gift cards at Woolworths and Officeworks max out at $500. Kmart maxes out at $200 (and good luck finding one), and I don’t remember what the maximum denomination is at ALDI, but I think it is $500 as well. BIG W used to sell OnlyONE Visa gift cards, but it looks like it has been phased out within the last week (at least at my local stores).

      • Activ Visa gift cards at Woolworths and BIG W max out at $500.

      • Vanilla Visa gift cards at Coles max out at $400 (and you will trigger errors on the EFTPOS terminal if you attempt to use a Coles Mastercard gift card to purchase this). Vanilla Visa gift cards max out at $250 at Target, and The Reject Shop max out at $100.

      • Australia Post Mastercard Gift Cards max out at $500 at Australia Post, and I believe you cannot use any Visa or Mastercard card as a payment method.

    • Westfield sell a max $999 card, I am not sure if this is useful to you

      • The westfield cards are EFTPOS based and you can only use them offline at POS machines.

    • +2

they normally are happy to split the payments, I did this for my AAMI car insurance but mine was 2 cards

    • +2

My home insurance didn't allow split payment even over the phone, but it had a Bpay option. So I used Sniip to pay off bits by bits via Bpay, and it was fine.

  • Trying to pay off Afterpay instalments with this card. Keen saying “error” when I try to add the card. Anyone have a workaround or succeeded previously?

    • Same with zip, couldnt add these

    • They probably block prepaid cards.

  • +1

I have been checking multiple Coles around my area in the last few days and couldn't find any. I am giving up. Probably a good thing seeing how many people are experiencing scams with this.

    • +1

read through the comments for stores near you, one store near me has an endless supply where the other stores in my area have run out.

  • Any mobile apps for this to lock the card?

    • +1

No but we all wish it was possible

  • +1

Is anyone having the same issue where you go to colesmastercardbalance.com.au (https://www.mybalancenow.com/) to check your balance and you keep getting on this error message? A system error has occurred. Please try again later.
