When you check your card on colesmastercard balance website, does it show 'system error occurred'?

          • +1

@iChaseYou: yes..after putting the card on hold, web and phone does not show balance. I pressed 0 again to speak with one to confirm balance is still there.

    • +2

What details did you have to give to place the hold? Other commenter seemed to mention having to give up personal details to hold which surprised me.

      • just first and last name

        • Thanks.

    • How do U reactivate the card?

      • You would need to call again.

  • If I add this to paypal, does it still have risk my card to be hacked?

    • +2

Yes. The amt hasnt been used yet.

  • -1

Has anyone had any luck trying to use these to buy discounted Woolworths gift cards? I tried through both RACQ portal and Perks app but it wouldn’t go through in either. Thanks

    • Read previous comments. U gotta use paypal.

      • Thank you, I will try that

    • +1

It works on Woolworths own gift card site to get discount just click through from somewhere that gives you discounts.

    • +1

It worked for me about 30 minutes ago.

I purchased a Woolworths Supermarkets gift card through an automotive club portal and entered the Coles Mastercard gift card's details directly into the checkout page.

      • Which one please? I have NRMA and RACQ. Thank you as always for your contribution

        • +1

          NRMA

          • @WookieMonster: Thanks, tried again and still rejecting. I will just spend directly on the card at the supermarket
            Appreciate your help

            • +2

@loulou1: If you have a PayPal account, you can link the Coles Mastercard gift card to your PayPal account, then use PayPal at the checkout screen on the gift card portal, ensuring you select the Coles Mastercard gift card as the payment source.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: It worked this way, thanks very much, and thanks for being so patient with me

          • @WookieMonster: How much did you do?
Did you have a small amount left over?
I try and wait for the 5% extra so that I don’t have 40 cents left on any cards.

            • +3

@HereToSave: I purchased a $260.25 gift card for $249.84, so my Coles Mastercard gift card has $0.16 left on it, which will be redeemed the next time I am at a self checkout at a store that allows split payments.

I mean, you could purchase a $260.41 gift card for $250, but then the discount is no longer 4%! (Yes, I'm splitting hairs…)

              • @WookieMonster: i did 260.4..lol

              • @WookieMonster: Ok educate me why is it then not 4%?

                • @HereToSave: 1c diff.
I just purchased a $260.41 gift card for $250 (ideally that should be 260.4167)
also tried to stack with everyday rewards offer "buy $220+ GC get 1500 points".

                  • @test8888: I did a Big W one for 5% at $263.15 thanks for the tip. I had been doing $260 and spending the remainder in multiple splits at Coles.

                • +7

@HereToSave: (I forgot to write the word precisely or exactly in my previous comment, so you’ll see why I said I’m really splitting hairs here.)

If you purchase a $260.41 Woolworths gift card and only pay $250 for it, the actual discount is 3.99754234%. You can calculate this by using the formula:

1 - (amount paid / face value amount)

Nearly everyone will still round this percentage up to 4%, and fair enough!

Woolworths Group determines the discount applied to a gift card through its portals by:

                  1. Multiplying the face value amount by the discount
                  2. Rounding down the answer to the nearest cent
                  3. Subtracting the answer from the face value amount

Woolworths Group started using this approach about a month ago. Previously, Woolworths Group used a different approach:

                  1. Multiplying the face value amount by the discount
                  2. Rounding the answer to the nearest cent (which meant that rounding could be up or down)
                  3. Subtracting the answer from the face value amount

The old approach meant that you could get a discount higher than 4% in some circumstances. For example, if you purchased a $9.38 Woolworths Supermarkets gift card (with a listed discount of 4%):

                  • Under the old approach, you would be asked to pay $9.00
                  • Under the new approach, you would be asked to pay $9.01
                  • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for the detailed response. I think I’ll just use it all in one hit. That way I can set it and forget it in my everyday pay wallet.

                  • +3

@WookieMonster: If I understand this correctly, you intentionally left 16c on a $250 card to spend later in order to squeeze out an extra 1c value. Surely the cost / benefit doesn't stack up here. All that effort for just 1 cent?

                    • +3

                      @capslock:

in order to squeeze out an extra 1c value.

Nope, there is no extra value to squeeze out. If I spent the extra 16c on the Woolworths Supermarkets gift card, the face value would increase by 16c.

I chose to leave 16c on the Coles Mastercard gift card, because:

                      • The way in which I have currently coded my expenses tracker makes it easier to track a 4% discount than a 3.9975…% discount, especially since I have multiple Coles Mastercard gift cards (or purchased multiple gift cards using Coles Mastercard gift cards) with different percentages applied to it.

                      • I can save the 16c for a retailer where I don’t usually have gift cards on hand (e.g. Target, Kmart, BIG W). (Yay?)

                      • If I redeem the 16c from the Coles Mastercard gift card in a transaction where I later need to do a return, it is more likely the retailer will return to a card than a gift card, because they’ll look at the payment methods used and see a Mastercard mixed in with gift cards.

                      Yes, I am being pedantic.

              • @WookieMonster: $260.25 gift card for $249.84
$260.41 for $250 Both equate to an exact 4 % discount.
                I buy $263.15 gc with a 5 % discount and it costs me $250.

Soooo angry, the manager stop me buying, saying I am not allowed to come back to buy more. I will keep going until I have 1000 cards from other stores.

    • How many more?

    • Can you beat me though? Pics?

      • -1

What’s your current haul to date?

Any more since the last pic?

        • Just around 5 daily since but only the 100 ones.

      • +2

Really no need to size each other up. If you got a few that's great, but no need to possibly attract the fun police.

  • Prezzee just ran out of red $250 Coles GC. Not sure if just for me.
Edit: and now not accepting the GC as a payment method. Oh well

    • +4

Prezzee has actually run out of most Coles gift card denominations. I can only see $5, $10, $15, $20, $25, $30 and $500 denominations at the moment. You will need to wait until Coles Group supplies Prezzee with more Coles gift cards.

There is always the Coles Groceries gift card as an alternative, but:

      • The highest denomination I have ever seen on Prezzee is $200.

      • Be aware it cannot be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco, gift cards and mobile phone SIM cards. You will trigger Invalid Product Mix errors on the EFTPOS terminal if you attempt this.

      • There is a weird bug where if you do split payments and use a Coles Groceries gift card to pay part of the amount owed, any subsequent attempts to use any kind of gift card (e.g. Coles gift card, Coles Groceries gift card, Coles Group & Myer gift card) will trigger an Invalid Product Mix error, even if you are purchasing items that are not listed in the dot point above. This bug rarely comes up, but when it gets triggered, you will pretty much have to pay the remaining amount owed using cash or a credit/debit/prepaid card.

      • +2

I got that Invalid Product Mix error once buying just groceries. I thought it was weird as I was not purchasing any cards. Ended up paying the rest with HSBC 2%.

      • +2

That "Invalid Product Mix" is NOT rare and it happens quite often. It happens with Flybuys and GC as well

It happens when you tried to pay without entering the exact amount of your giftcard OR flybuys, the system then popup asking you to use the remaining balance, once you do that you will get this bug.

To avoid this, you will need to enter the exact remaining balance of your Flybuys / Giftcard. If you forgot and have the popup asking you to use the remaining balance amount, select NO and go back to enter the exact balance.

        • Maybe it's at some stores only? I've never seen this Invalid Product Mix error and I rarely put the exact amount of the gift card in. I select YES when the popup comes up showing the remaining gift card balance, enter my PIN and then it takes me back to the payment options screen.

          • @capslock: It happens randomly at random stores even at store that I didn't get this bug previously. You can't tell when it will happen so to avoid it I always enter the exact amount now.

You can get the amount from the popup screen anyway.

        • The bug I am talking about is rare, because I am referring to a different bug.

The bug you are talking about only happens if you trigger the remaining balance popup message.

The bug I am talking about will happen even if you never ever trigger the remaining balance popup message. That means if you never trigger that popup and redeem an amount less than or equal to the available balance on a Coles Groceries gift card, any further attempts to split payments using a gift card may trigger the Invalid Product Mix error as soon as you scan or swipe a gift card.

      • What's the benefit of swapping to Prezzee giftcards?

        • Easier to manage.
          Less likely hood of hacking.
          Extra 2% off

          • @HereToSave: Didn't see 2% disc on prezzee card.

          • @HereToSave: Where are you getting the 2% off?

            • +1

              @nightelves: shopback

Was around a few suburbs in Melbourne today, no stock of $100 or $250s :(

Yep all gone from the stores I went to today..

How do i work around the limit of adding 5 cards to shopback? I did this 2 days ago and still not working, do i need to contact support to get my account unlocked?

    • +1

Have you try creating another account for your fake twins?

      • I wasnt going to say that im having the same issue for all accounts haha

        • Just make more accounts?

          • @Xishnik: You need a mobile number for each. And not a throwaway one.

    • I think there is also a dollar purchase limit. It is letting me buy a $5 superswap but it won't let me buy a $200 superswap using the same card.

    • You are lucky I could only do 4.

      • It only allows me to buy 2. Now need to contact them because system thinks its a suspicious activity…lol

  • +1

Do we lose cashback after purchasing the Superswap GC and then removing the linked payment card that was used to purchase the Superswap GC? When I try to remove, the message says 'any pending Cashback and progress towards loyalty rewards on this card will be lost'.

kellyville 250s now all gone, plenty supply of 100s

Got lucky at local store this morning. No cards left on hooks where main promo display was set up. Happened to look down at floor level beside gift card stand, and a pack of 10 x $250 cards still in sealed plastic bag sitting there. Took 3 for me and put the rest back where they were, ready for next lucky shopper to find.

  • So basically this deal comes around every 6 month looks like? And lets you clear out or top up all your upcoming bills at 7% discount. Also noticed you get flybuy points, which is another $10 on top when buying 5 cards.

    • +3

It's more like every 4 months, but yes, that's about the gist of it. You can even pay your tax bill or HECS/HELP loan with them.

I always keep a few for Aldi since there's no other way to get a discount at Aldi that I'm aware of.

      • Do you know if it's possible to buy a Aldi gift card? Safer than to hold on to these cards

        • +3

You can buy Aldi gift cards, I've never done it though so I don't know the particulars around if you can split an Aldi payment over 2+ gift cards or 1 gift card and 1 credit/debit card. I know you can't do 2 credit/debit cards. It can only be 1 credit/debit card and the rest has to be cash.

They would also still incur the credit surcharge when you buy it though so a $250 Coles card can't be spent on a $250 Aldi card as you need to cover the 0.5% surcharge. It would have to be a $248.75 card + $1.25 (fee).

          • +1

@daanish: ALDI can only do one card and the rest cash. You need to pay the cash first.

            • @JIMB0: Thanks - I was going to ask next time I went in about the gift card split payment but there you go.

  • I saw someone using these Mastercards to buy more Mastercards lol. Circular free money. Too bad someone will eventually catch you as there is a 5 per person limit - but if you were really dedicated could work on separate days and stores.

    • Thought that had stopped working. When I tried the other day, it said invalid product mix.

      • You might be right - this was yesterday I was just observing this lady who had a stack of mastercard using it to pay for more.

But then I thought to myself, it's better to get credit card points to buy these mastercards, then buy the discounted coles gift cards online. Unless someone has tight cash in their bank and has a lot of time to go around

  • I saw a guy pull out a stack of $100 cards wrap in rubberbands to pay for groceries it was thicker than a double AA battery.

    • I saw a lady pull out a stack of $50 notes to pay for the gc. Who needs a casino when can just laundry the money this way.

    • It could of been a stack of anything unless you saw each one.

  • +1

    5 stores visited today
    No stock of any 😞

    • Rough. There tons near me on their cardboard stands all $100 values but.

  • Was going to give it a miss because of risk of card(s) getting hacked/compromised but the temptation of netting $93.50 on the purchase of 5x$250 was too great. Bought them and used within an hour to prepay medical insurance without a problem. Might test my luck again tomorrow!!

  • A bunch of 100's but no 250s in Belmont, Maylands or Basso.

  • There's 5 left at Carlingford Coles if anyone is nearby.

    • $250?

      • +1

Yeah. It's been 90 or so minutes since so not sure if someone has picked them up yet

  • What do everyone do to the used cards? Just throw them into landfill? Any creative ways to recycle and use them as something else?
