I stack them up and see how much I’ve bought since I joined Ozb

      • Same lol

    • +2

Great for lots of jobs like shucking HDDs or prying things open or applying selastic.

      • +1

Also good for applying car body filler or small plaster repairs

    • +4

You need to keep them for a while if your purchase may be refunded as it will go back on this card.

      • +1

Second this- I keep it for a while as have had some purchases refunded onto the same card automatically.

A while ago I googled to see if there are ways to recycle these cards, WW has an article but doesn't explain how to recycle in store. Apparently there is a company called [Gram Destruction[(https://www.therogueginger.com/2015/05/recycle-plastic-cards…) which accepts cards for recycling, and I did post out some but unsure if it reached them and ended up being recycled.

    • +4

I cut them up and use them as my fruit tree grafting label. They can survive Australia's fierce summer sun.

    • +8

One day I'm going to wall paper a room with all the different gift cards I got over the years.

    • I remember many years ago there was an actress who attended the Oscar event wearing credit cards sewn into a gown.

You can use it as a playing card or sort of tokens in a gambling games etc.

    • I take them back to Coles for recycling. Bonus points if you can pass it to the checkout manager and record their reaction.

    • I use them to scrape the ice off my windscreen on cold mornings

Does anyone know if I can use Coles egiftcard to huy Coles Myer giftcard instore at Coles?

    • not sure about egiftcard but the promo GC can be used to buy Coles Myer GC. Max load value $400. There seems to be 2 types of those cards - 1 with card number exposed at the back, and another with card hidden with perforated sections on the back of packaging. No idea if they are restricted differently or just different packaging.

      • +1

The maximum load value is actually $500 for the Coles Myer Group GC.

        • I see. I was told 400 by staff when I asked… Thanks for the correction
I was, initially, hoping it was $1156.50! :)

      • Thanks. I have got some Coles egiftcard and want to swap to Coles Myer ones. Hope someone here might know.

        • +2

At Myer, you cannot even use the Myer GC to buy the Coles Myer GC unless you happen on a staff member that does not know the policy. Like at Coles their systems allow it but their staff are better trained. Just buy the Coles Myer GC at Coles with the Coles GC. Again, you are not supposed to buy GCs with GCs but I have done it many times and few staff seems to know that. Doing it on the weekend is very good and also for getting more than 5 cards as there seem to be more casuals and fewer of the older ladies who appear to get a bonus based on how many people they stop breaking the rules or even make their own. Speaking as an older lady.

          • +1

@Yola: Thanks. Might go tomorrow lunch time and hopefully will be young man minding self checkout. Staff at my local Coles are trained really well, including young girls. I will find out who is at self checkout before I decide if I will go ahead to do it. Or I xan wait till weekends.

            • @bbking18: Not for this deal expires today.

              • @Yola: Yes. I meant to buy Coles Myer gift card with Coles egiftcard. So can be any time, right?

Also, is Coles egiftcard the one with big red "Coles" on it, the one we can swap from Shopback? Then what does Coles Grocery gift card look like?

                • @bbking18:

So can be any time, right?

Correct, they do not seem to come up on sale either.

what does a Coles Grocery gift card look like?

Yes, the Coles one is red. Sorry, do not know what the groceries one looks like. WookieMonster would.

                  • +1

                    @Yola: Thanks. Yola

                  • @Yola: The Coles Groceries gift card has text along the bottom of the front of the gift card that says “Not to be used for the purchase of alcohol, tobacco, gift cards or mobile phone SIM cards” (or words to that effect). I will note that the version sold on the Coles Group gift card website says something slightly different.

The regular Coles gift card does not have kind of text on the front of the gift card.

          • @Yola: older than 61 lol

    • No. You cannot use gift cards issued by Coles Group (e.g. Coles gift card) to purchase gift cards issued by Coles Group (e.g. Officeworks gift cards, Coles Group & Myer gift cards) at Coles.

Even if you find a staff member who will let you try to do this, as soon as you scan the gift card barcode, you will get an Invalid Product Mix error on the EFTPOS terminal.

      • but we can use coles mastercard to buy TCN gift card available at 10% discount tomorrow from woolworths ?

also, when will woolworth launch similar mastercard deal? couldn't finish all council payment as all $250 was finished only $100 left now.

        • +1

but we can use coles mastercard to buy TCN gift card available at 10% discount tomorrow from woolworths ?

No idea, but I would guess yes, because I’m not aware of any restrictions in the checkout system on using prepaid gift cards to purchase TCN gift cards. Even the Perfect EFTPOS gift card (which triggers Items Not Allowed errors when purchasing some gift cards) can be used to purchase TCN gift cards at Woolworths (at least that was true a couple of weeks ago).

Keep in mind that some Woolworths staff have been trained to not let customers purchase any gift cards at their store using any kind of prepaid gift cards, so keep that in mind if a staff member catches you and tells you that you are not allowed to do that.

when will woolworth launch similar mastercard deal? couldn't finish all council payment as all $250 was finished only $100 left now.

          A couple of problems:

          • Woolworths (and BIG W) does not sell prepaid Mastercard gift cards. It only sells prepaid Visa gift cards.

          • Historically, Woolworths (and BIG W) have only run bonus points deals on prepaid Visa gift cards that are not locked to specific categories, but the bonus points deals only applied to the $50 and $100 fixed denominations, and Woolworths (and BIG W) specifically called out the variable load denominations as exlcusions. However, the value of the bonus points did not exceed the purchase fee, which is the reason you rarely see those kind of deals posted here. Considering OnlyONE Visa gift cards are being slowly phased out in favour of Activ Visa gift cards (which are almost all $25-$500 or $50-$500 variable denominations), I would be surprised to see deals on Activ Visa gift cards going forward from Woolworths (or BIG W).

          • +1

            @WookieMonster: Thanks

How about every user from Oz bargain send email to Woolworths asking them to beat Coles MasterCard offer?

            :D

        • My guess would be yes too. Eg. back in the June deal - I bought Wish cards using the prepaid mc

      • +1

Thanks, WookieMonster. I guessed as much but never tried until today. It didn't work. It triggered a long message, like 3 lines long if not longer. But the message disappeared real quick. "Store login required" appeared straight after. I tried 3 times because I want to read that message until staff intervened. It was too quick. It pretty much said payment option not available. And EFTPOS terminal simply went blank before briefly displayed screen to input PIN.

  • In Brissy, I saw a number of stores with $100's but no $250's left.

It is tempting to buy some of them and try them with transfer wise… But I don't want to risk getting my account locked or anything. And not sure how risky it is.

    • Try Carindale. I saw some last weekend.

  • +3

Managed to get a few off the rack in Brisbane this morning (the last 3). The lady at the check out seemed to accuse me of doing something dodgy as 'they haven't been in stock since last Thursday'. Though there were a tonne yesterday and I managed to get two last night as well… LOL.

She even asked me to walk her to which rack I took them off. Some Karens out there. Didn't know what to say or how to respond, there was stock yesterday and today.

    • +1

She probably wants it for herself lol

      • Possibly - she said she was working yesterday too and didn't see it. I was like hmm… I was there at 8.40pm last night and there were quite a lot on the shelf. Not a good way to start the day but tis what tis.

        • +6

Tell her to get f-ed. YOU are the customer. She has a job because customers spend money.
Some of these old chooks really do go on a power trip. Especially senior checkout ladies.

    • +1

They are useless, they are just bloody work there and who the hell telling them to police the bloody card limit per customer. They are just bully a customer and young worker at Coles. Useless piece of shit especially the old ones.

  • +1

Plenty of $250 cards found in the Gold Coast, including Pacific Fair.

  • +1

coles toowong has quite a few $250 left ;) indro none left, only $100 ones.

also you can't pay with a coles gift card. i tried it and the check out assitant also tried but it didn't work. and if you buy a more than 3 and/or if the amount goes over $1000 the need to come and push some buttons on the self check out screen.

    • I have purchased many with the red Coles GC as recently as Sunday. Maybe there was some issue.

      • For me, red Coles physical GC didn't work, but e-gift card worked for 2 lots (and then the issuer stopped accepting the promo GC as payment). Physical Coles Myer worked yesterday

        • bummer… next time then. will be more persistent :P

i was trying with the coles egift card but it showed something on the screen along the lines of cash/tender etc… can't remember exactly. i didn't have a chance to enter the gift card, it just went straight back to the payment options screen.

    • +1

      Just paid with gift card

      • thanks, i will remember that for next time! could've saved another 3% haha!

    • +1

Thank you @iSamurai for the tidbit bought 3 cards! Just signed up for an account just to post this comment. The Only #UQAdvantage

      • Are there still any at Toowong?

      • +1

thanks mate no worries. i spent like 10 years of my life studying and working at UQ. just came back from a 4 year stint in the netherlands working (and will now be working both in Oz and NL). i still think the Brisbane inner west is a great place to live.

ps. if anyone ever goes to europe, check their local equivalent of ozbargain. for example in NL it's nl.pepper.com, in france it's dealabs.com. they seem to be run by the same parent company so check their footer for more local sites.

        • +1

Yes it is a nice place the high rises in Milton are nice too if it weren't for the floods. Living here only because of the river otherwise I would prefer to live in the city or South Bank since the rent for apartments are around the same. Other than that Toowong has got everything you would want to be honest…

          • +1

@thecheapcarp: i'd not stay so close to the city… it's too crowded. much happier to just get on a bike and ride to south bank/the city if i need to be there :P

    • What are you using these for ;)

  • +7

Just reading the bottom of the Coles receipt…

"Gift cards CANNOT be use to pay your tax debt"

I think they're slightly wrong about that. Most of my haul went to the ATO.

    • +2

yeah, wonder if it's more to be wary of the scammers

      • Definitely the scammers asking for payment in Apple Gift Cards, not ozb'ers gaming the system.

  • Might have been answered elsewhere but will the card work as Savings if PIN is assigned? Been using as credit with no pin till now

    • Still used as credit regardless of pin or no pin

  • I see. Thanks for the reply.
Was hoping to pay WA water corp bill which only accepts cheque/savings at AusPost

  • Coles in and around Syd CBD are out of stock ($250) since weekend. Plenty of 100 around. Have been put on normal GC racks but no takers!

    • +2

It's like $5 notes hanging on a shelf. I'm surprised people don't want them.

      • People who really care about it had enough. I bought $100 ones today for a flybuys 1k bonus pts (retention) offer that can be used at any partners, no minimum spend.

The most $100 ones will be supposedly cleared for 2k bonus offer in early Dec.

      • $27.50 savings for $500 face value each time you check out

5.5% only compared to 10% at $1250 value each time

    • +1

I guess they're all out of bills to pay!

  • +1

I have read through all 17 pages of this thread (!). In regard to these cards being hacked, do I understand correctly that the chance of a card being hacked increases with the time it exists as an activated Mastercard? So when people advise to add a card to PayPal, this in itself doesn't provide any security against the card being hacked? Whereas if the card is "converted" into another form, eg. a Woolies e-gift card or Shopback Super swap card, the chances of being a victim of hacking are significantly less. Have I understood the info correctly?

    • +3

Yeah, using the Coles mastercard balance to purchase another gift card on shopback, woollies etc means your money is now on another gift card, one that doesn't have a history of getting hacked like the Coles mastercard. Adding it to PayPal is just having it as an alternate method of payment, so the balance is still sitting in the Coles mastercard. Best way to go about this is either using the money asap via bills/immediate purchases on things etc. Or buying another gift card to put the balance onto

  • Does anyone know if you can add multiple cards to Paypal and pay together? I want to redeem for an international plane ticket (no refunds required)

    • I dont think that is possible with PayPal.

  • Did a good look around the Northern suburbs of Melbourne today

    No $100 or $250s :(

    • +2

I'm actually surprised demand is still high in Melbourne considering the Vanilla Visa offer was only last month.

      • +1

never be enough for free money

  • Coles Neutral Bay in Sydney has loads of 100s.

  • Cannot find any near me in Brissy

  • Has anyone here tried split paying NRMA CTP and Comprehensive at a PO ?

  • Does these cards only works if its swiped? Am I correct that if I use it in other store ie myer or david jones I need to tell the cashier that I need to swipe this card?

    • Swipe for purchase in-person (no need to tell the cashier) or numbers for online.

      • Last time Im about to pay the shop is using a tap machine only

        • Like a Square Reader? Most larger stores still have swipes. I used the card in Coles yesterday for some shopping.

  • Can we check the balance online?

    • Url Behind the card will redirect you to this .https://www.mybalancenow.com/ Check URL , some doggy phishing site.

    • +1
      • Ye tried this, but keeps throwing an error.

  • Anyone know how to purchase $100 GC with split payment of a Coles/Myer giftcard?
I have 3 x Coles/Myer cards left with $43 on them each (due to not being able to find $250s)

    • it won't work

      • Well it may be possible at the main checkout but I am pretty sure staff just wont let you

        • +1

Depends on the store. Has to be manned checkout. Some staff/stores will do it others not. Go when they are not too busy.

  • Just paying my Bupa health insurance.

Went into Bupa, but they wouldn't accept the prepaid cards. No idea why. Manager said no as well.

Just tried via Postbillpay online. I have 5 cards. The first 2 went through fine. The 3rd returned a "declined 159 error". Says it was declined by the financial institution?

Just checked the balance. Still $250 remaining. So it's not that?

Tried the customer service line on the back. All pre recorded responses. Nothing applies to this.

    Any ideas?

    • I used these cards in addition to the Vanilla Visa cards at Bupa online. Use the Make the One-off payment option after you login to your BUPA account. You would have to chat or call them up to increase the next direct debit date

    • Sometimes you have to do it gradually. I paid some rates, and it did not want the second payment because it was the same amount and the system thought I was making a mistake. It worked the next day.

      • Yeah, probs right. Cheers.

      • +1

        Use Post Billpay. It works.

    • Did you try paying over the phone? How do you pay via postbillpay online?

      • Yeah, online. Tried phone pay and that worked. Will do the other 2 tomorrow.

        • +1

Bupa processed 10x$250 payment over the phone for me and emailed me the statement. All in good order.

          • @F1ngolf: Well, phone pay got rejected on the second card. Only way was to physically call and speak to someone.

Summary - in store (couldnt do it, postbill pay - max 2 cards, phone pay. 1 card only. Calling and speaking to someone worked for the remaining 2 cards.

  • Purchased 30 * $250 card.
I think it is time to stop

    • +3

I think there are many others who got more than 30

    • You should get more May be like 1000 cards and after you use bring them back to Coles and tell the manager to recycle them. She might give you some Coles vouchers

      • ..or just maybe they will ask how you got 1000 cards in 7 days with a 5 per day limit?

        But 250k …power to ya!

    • Congratulations on your profit of $561.
