I think it depends what rewards you're chasing? I'd suggest have a look on points hack

HSBC everyday global has a simple 2% cashback for instore purchases. There's no credit inquiry for this. Otherwise I use a churn card I keep for 3 - 4 months. Currently I'm using the Citi Rewards card which gives my $490 of woolworths gift card for $3000 of spend in 90 days + $49 annual fee ($441 net).

    • Hey mate any chance of some knowledge on your churning?
I’ve done 3 this year, I’ve been working them out on% and found the Commbank low rate to be the best value for return of spend at $1500 spend, $300 cashback with no fees.
I’m keen to know how they go about limits, eg I have a offset account for home loan, how much credit limit can I apply for and max out on the 0% for 25 months on purchases?
I still have 3 cards all paid off, will try cancel two first. I think I’ll keep the Kogan one.

  • Not that simple; many factors will determine which card is best for you / what you will get accepted for

  • is Citi Prestige current promotion the best one there is?
About to book flight and accommodation, free unlimited lounge access is something I like

  • Merged from Best Creditcard for Points/Awards/Benefits?

After a credit card that has the best value for money 'points' system.

Currently have commbank Diamond awards, but wondering if anybody has something better?

Just want to get another credit card for personal/business related expenses.

Insurances are good, I have a coles and 28 degree cards for those.

Just something for day to day items you wouldn't claim price difference or insurances on (ie Food, Petrol, Bills)

Best in the long-term is the HSBC everyday global with a flat 2% cashback for instore purchases.

If you really want the best value for money, you need to keep switching credit cards for their signup bonus e.g. St George Platinum (spend $3000 in 90 days for $450 of giftcards).

      • Legend. 2% is way better than what CBA are giving me.

        Completely forgot about cashback schemes.

      • Though I just realized that the everyday global isn't a credit card and its a transaction account - means id have to have money sitting in it for purchased vs having it in a higher interest account and spending credit then paying that off before the due date.

  • Merged from Best Rewards Credit Card Nov 2022

    Hi All,

I have been using BankWest Platinum Credit card for years and recently found my friends use cards and collect points to Travel buy gadgets etc. I have used thousands per month and did not collect points or get any benefits from my BankWest Credit card. I have $17000 limit and I always pay the full amount on time.

What are the best cards out there with travel vouchers or points that can benefit me? I hear Amex card gets you $400 travel voucher a year and Weatpac attitude card gives you points and discounts.

    Any recommendations please?

I'm planning to get a St George Amplify Platinum soon. It will give me $450 of gift cards for spending $3000 in the first 3 months and only has a $29 annual fee. I intend to offset this fee by also applying for their bank account which has a $40 signup bonus.

What are the best cards out there with travel vouchers or points that can benefit me?

amex has three products (essential, discovery and escape) which you earn point for $0 annual fees

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/189922

Otherwise, churn cards like ozbargain people. Not sure what’s the deaL with paypal CC these days

    • This is probably the best place to start. Decide what you want to earn first (Qantas points, Virgin etc) then:
      1) Apply for card & make qualifying spend
      2) Bank the points
      3) Close account
      4) Go back to step (1)

Keep your BankWest Platinum open though, extremely useful for fee free payments in overseas currency

Keep your BankWest Platinum open though

I would suggest lowering from the 17k limit before applying for a new card

    • You can also look through the credit card tag on ozb

I signed up to St George to get free $40

And existing account means no AF for this credit card to get 60k QFF

BankSA has the same deal too

      • And existing account means no AF for this credit card to get 60k QFF

For the first year only right?

        • Yes for first year. You will be churning anyway and close as soon as you get the QFF to start the 12 months timer until you can get the same card again.

    • Combank mailed me: Your credit score is close to 900! Would you like step pay?
      Ok so I said yes.
Later they changed their mind, I look like too cheap for them. Ah well, back to Afterpay.
But just collecting 20 bucks for spending over 100 at Myers.

      • Can you clarify please? Not sure what you're trying to say.

        why step pay is good?

        • Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) is a recent phenomenon.
There are at least 10 operators to choose from.
Commbank jumped late into this and teases everybody with their step pay version. Ask you to apply, knock you back and then try to sell you a ridiculous overpriced product.
Zip pay starts off with a fee threat so Afterpay took the lead!
You can also Humm away into debt if you so desire……

    • Pointhacks and rwds are 2 good sites to start with

      https://www.pointhacks.com.au/

      https://www.rwrds.com.au/

    • Wow thank you all for done great insights. I met few people today they recommended Commbank awards card. I don’t think it’s that great.
I’m not a CC churner. I’ve used BankWest loyally for last 15 years and didn’t bother changing my cards or bank. I’ve been with Commbank for over 20 years and now opened Macquarie Bank account for the first time for interest savings account.

If I churn credit cards after getting the advantage in few months am I not going to get a low credit rating or something like that?

      • Each application will temporarily lower your credit score. Chruning too much e.g. 4 times a year will bump it down a little more. If you're just casually churning e.g. twice a year it shouldn't impact your score too much.

      • +2

Either those people were trolling you, or literally have no idea…the CBA rewards program is probably among the worst out there.

        • I'm juste here for the $300 cashback after $1500 spent in 90days.
          then I'll go somewhere else.

But I pseronaly like commbank, never had an issue with them.

    • Thank you so much. I’m about to apply St George card. Should I open a transactional card so that I get the $40? Is there any hoops?

    • citi prestige has good signup bonus. you can use fee-free payall until Oct 2023 which count towards your spending requirement.

      • Citi prestige has ridiculous fees. I just checked their site unless I’m mistaken it’s $350 first year and $700 from the year after. To make it worth applying for this card for the first year I need to see some value.

        • +1

you can claim 300k points for like 1400 woolworths or other gift cards. subtract $350 annual fee, you are left with $1150 profit.

  • Hi All I have been using BankWest platinum card for decades it gives me zero international transaction fees but I get no points.
I’ve been doing some research on awards card with low yearly transaction fees.
Since I have virgin velocity points should I go into

    1) ANZ points hack Platinum card - 75k velocity points, $95 velocity credit, 30 status credit ( not sure what it means) and $50 credit to new card. Annual charges $95.
    https://www.anz.com.au/promo/personal/credit-cards/rewards-p…

    2) St George Amplify Card
12 months of Kayo Basic + 100k bonus points
Up to $450 gift cards with points. $99 annual fees and first year $29. If I open debit card account I’ll get $40 cash back.

    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am…

Which one looks better? I haven’t churned a credit card yet in my life so not sure if it will hurt my credit history. The hoops on spending the minimum amount is okay with me.

  • Any recommendations guys?

    • +1

I have Bankwest Platinum for years too and i am waiting for ANZ platinum card to be approved. It looks like suit my needs (small spending as well as annual fees)

      • Great. Thanks a lot. ANZ points hack sounds good to me if I’m travelling on virgin airlines and taking a vacation. It’s all about the velocity points.

However, St George Amplify card is for making a short term profit if I plan to use $450 on gift cards and use Kayo for sports. I will only use Kayo during the World Cup football.

        • I did signed up with Kogan Money Black Card when they had promotion for $500 Kogan Credits for $1500 spend as well, you can always sign up 2 CC which it does not really affect your Credit ratings as long as you pay them ontime

          • @BlackorRed: Guys just realised I had NAB frequent flyer credit card with a balance of $10k which I never used and thought I cancelled it. I have just cancelled the card. The only other CC I have is BankWest Platinum and I always paid on time.
Having said that can I apply for both ANZ and St George CC take advantage of the points then cancel either one of them? Is this going to hurt my credit ratings?
First I need to figure out if I’ll make some big spendings over the next 3 months.

St George card offer is due to expire end of November and ANZ until March 2023. Maybe I should pick St George card for now.

      • Mate did you get the card confirmation? I applied on Friday and haven’t heard back yet. I also supplied all the relevant documents in advance. How long do they take?
FYI I applied for ANZ card.

        • @justanick: I applied on 3/11, still waiting for them to approved despite provided all relevant documents, they are outsourced to India so i spoke to 2 of them and both gave me different answer but no rejected yet. Will follow up in a few days to finalise this…sigh

          • @BlackorRed: Oh crap. Looks like I should just apply for the St George Amplify Card before the deal runs out in few weeks. I hope it’s not outsourced to India as well.

The ANZ guys do they call you or email? I have half a dozen calls from unknown numbers from scammers. If they don’t leave voice mail there’s no way of knowing who called me.

            • +1

@justanick: they called me then left text message to arrange another time. Their numbers showed up as ANZ on my phone anyway

              • @BlackorRed: Yay I got my card arrived and had a painful process of getting a CRN to activate my card. I found out my welcome pack didn’t mention the 75k velocity points along with the virgin card cash and other benefits. When I spoke with customer service they said it’s just an award card not Qantas or velocity card. Later retracted the statement after 15mins of finding out internally.

1)This is concerning how do I know they will give me what they promised during the application process?
                2) if I spend the $1500 in a month do I still have to serve the 3 months waiting period plus another 3 months for them to apply the points to my velocity points?

  • Hello guys I got good news. After getting the ANZ platinum card I got a text today to confirm 75k velocity points, $50 bonus, 30 status credit and $95 virgin travel credit.
I checked out everything is looking great however I can’t see the $95 travel credit. I logged into my virgin travel bank too and there’s nothing.

How do I check and use the $95 travel credit?

    • In the email you would have received it mentions that the $95 travel credit will take up to 4 months to be delivered. And the $50 credit to your card will take 3 months

      • But I got the $50 right away including everything except $95. How does it get applied to my account? Do I have to keep logging into Velocity travel bank ? Which is awkward.

        • You will receive an email to link the credit to your account.

          • @CaptainHoltisDad: Sorry if I understand that correctly- it means I’ll get a credit of $95 on my credit card account?

  • Can someone please update how we get the $95 travel credit? Where do we see the credit on our credit card or virgin travel bank or velocity points site?

      1. By patiently waiting
      2. It is likely that the $95 will be applied in the form of a travel bank based on the correspondence we have all received.
      • Thank you. I just wanted to find out if the $95 travel credit will be on travel bank. I hope that’s the case.

Can someone confirm if I can purchase a ticket with a combination of travel bank + velocity points + cash?

  • What's the best card that has the least amount of spending to required to get the same gift cards?

I've still got my Citibank Premier with no annual fee for life, but i think i need to spend about $10-15k (depending on what i'm buying i think) to get a $100 gift card. Is that the best one still available these days?
