Breville Barista Express Coffee Machine (Salted Liquorice) $539 + Shipping ($0 with Plus or C&C) @ The Good Guys eBay

2160
HOMEFY

This popular machine is going for $599 (down from $749) at the good guys. Buy it via their eBay store to save an extra $60 with Code HOMEFY (can't see when this code expires unfortunately) = $539. Free click and collect for everyone, or free shipping for eBay plus.

If you're really keen, you can get eight $50 'TCN Gift' gift cards with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703187 (which is effectively 10% back), saving another $40. New total = $499. I say eight because you can't use more than eight gift cards on eBay. Can confirm I have done this successfully and picked up the machine at TGG an hour later.

Could even try with Shopback and get an extra 3% for new customers or 1% back for existing customers - not 100% sure it will work with gift cards though.

  • Im assuming there is no way of using Good Guys gift cards with these sorts of deals…?

    • +1

      No, since it's through eBay.

  • +10

Outrageous price - is it the historic low? I have had this machine for many years and it is still going strong.

    • loving mine, Black Sesami, looks awesome

    • I got my one for $399 from breville factory outlet with “damaged” box. They kept that going for years.

    • Hey guys, Can you enlighten me how to descale these machines. I tried descaling my BES920 and $600 worh of repairs later, it's still not working! I hear you can damage em while descaling.

      • I followed the instructions in the manual, the ratio of vinegar to water depends on the hardness of water in your area.

  • You mean ebay plus? Not prime..

    • thought I had missed an announcement of bezos with a buy out of ebay lol

  • +2

    Nice write up op

  • +1

Confirmed worked with shopback gift cards.

    Bought $500, $15 tracked.

    Thanks OP

Is the colour actually just a matte black? or is there some brownish tinge to it due to the "salted liquorice" colour?

    • +3

more like black with metallic sparkles (salt).

      • Ah ok, thats not too bad. Tempted now!

  • +3

Was waiting for the BES878 Pro version to go on sale, but this is tempting me.

    • same, tell us if you go for this

    • +1

Was waiting too. But this post got me and ordered. This is the way.

      • +1

        Ended up ordering as well.

        • +1

          Same

    • Same boat. But the price on this is very tempting. Pretty much half the price.

      • Ended up ordering, price was too good to pass considering pro is usually around $700 - $750 when on sale (but isn't on sale frequently).

        • I was also waiting for the Pro…and decided on this also. Too good a price!

  • +2

    Price is so tempting
but my kitchen has no space to put this unit :(

    • +16

      Buy it and regret later

      • Buy now then buy new house with bigger kitchen later, no regets.

      • Or.. Buy it and don't regret it! An amazing machine. Probably one of our best investments.

    • +1

Wait for a deal on the Bambino / Bambino Plus! You'll still need to buy a grinder to get the most out of it, but gives you more flexibility to manage your space.

The Bambino Plus used to go on sale for as low as $360, but it has been a while since its dropped that low.

      • My Bambino doesn't let me do timed manual infusion despite what the manual says. I have both and (not the plus) be and this is superior. I'm still getting rid of it though as feel I've already outgrown it with the built in grinder inconsistency

    • +3

Keep it in the bathroom then

    • +1

It’s time you upgrade your house.

  • +7

and, with this deal, the day has finally come. Thanks op

    • +1

Same here. Finally pulled the trigger.

  • +1

I am waiting for Breville the Barista Pro.

  • Not sure if it's just bad luck or the build quality of these machines have changed since they've generally had decent reviews for previous versions. First machine I got 2 months ago lost pressure after 2 weeks and was replaced with a new one. 2 months later and I'm currently going through the warranty repair process and for the second one because the steam wand and portafilter stopped working. Would have spent the money on something more durable if I could go back.
Either way good price compared to usual deals and it does make great coffees once you get the settings and technique right.

  • +18

I've been using this machine for about a year and half now, if you have the space - I think it's one of the best ways to get into making coffee at home! It'll take you sometime to learn the ins and outs (recommend James Hoffman's and Lance Hedrick's videos), but in about a month of making a coffee per day, I was able to make a latte better than most cafes, at a fraction of the price.

As a daily coffee drinker, the machine paid for itself very quickly with the savings I made from making coffee at home instead of buying out - will be even quicker for you, given coffee prices are expected to rise sharply.

After a year and half of practice, only the very best cafes could out do me. I actually prefer drinking my coffee at home. Will consider upgrading to the Dual Boiler if/when this dies, but going strong for now!

    • +2

Plenty of good deals on marketplace for precisely those reasons, people just don't put in enough effort to learn how to use the machine.

      • "why do I need to study and learn how to do be good at something? just because the people I consider to be professionals in the matter also had to practice and, study and learn it?"

  • I am eyeing for Barista Pro. Not seen a good deal lately

  • Hi! Really want one but it doesn't let me continue with checkout… Says the seller won't post to my location… I live in Broome, anyone would know why or even how to proceed?

    • +3

      Broome

      • +2

        But it's in Australia 🙈

        • Still in 20th century though /s

  • Breville dual boiler is where it's at.

    • +2

Agree but more than double the price when you factor in a grinder, likely triple the price.

      • …and the dual boiler is large. I purchased it from a previous ozb deal and ended up returning. Now have the bambino + a smart grinder and its a lot smaller footprint, & being split allows a bit more flexibility in our small kitchen, but is a bit messier this Barista Express is basically those two items combined.

    • I upgraded from an extremely old Breville Barista Express that had chugged along for 3 years (and that was after I picked it up second hand from a friend who had run it for 5+ years), to a Dual Boiler + Smart Grinder.
Daily use of the machine is easy and very consistent, and over the last few weeks as it gets colder I've been making more frothed milk drinks - the ability to extract a shot and froth milk at the same time is fantastic!

  • While it has a tempting price this is effectively the Bambino plus and Dose control grinder combine. The only advantage I see is the pressure gauge but don't think this machine has PID control so feel half bake. It does not have ThermalJet (3 sec start up) nor the Milk temp sensor on the Bambino Plus.

I am using the Bambino Plus and Smart Grander Pro at the moment and that seem to be a better solution if you can get hold of both at a good price. Since Breville put the RRP up, $400 for the BB+ and around $270 for SGP is consider a good deal.

The next one up that won't break your bank is Breville the Barista Pro going for $789.00 at EBay. This one has PID control if you are into it and it also has a better portafilter compare to BB+. If I was to choose again knowing what I know now, I am very likely to get Barista Pro instead of BB+.

    • Where is the barista pro for $789? I'd be tempted at that price.

    • The advantage is that it’s all in one machine with one power cord. I was looking at getting the bambino abs smart grinder but at the time was more expensive and took two power points and more space in the bench.

    • +1

Where do you see $400 for the bambino plus? AFAIK TGG commercial is normally cheapest, but they've put up their prices considerably

      • +1

$500 on TGGC currently which I think is the lowest price going. Would also be interested to know where the Bambino can be picked up for $400.

      • Appliance Online EBay $479 after code, if you have gift card that that get you pretty close to $400

I got mine not long ago for under $400

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/687909

Just my opinion, BB+ and SGP is good as a capsule replacement but I still think Barista Pro has all the necessary function for a better solution.

    • What beans would you prefer with BB+ and SGP.

      • Campos is good but BB+ simply lacks the ability to get the best out of Campos beans. You need better control in pressure and temp to use Campos.

I have not try Airjo but many OZBs seems to like it and the same goes to the Aldi ones.

I had been using various Lavazza and results are acceptable. Barista in particular impress me for its price point. The ORO also ok.

        • Thanks for details, would you go for darker roast with 1:1.5 ratio or medium with 1:2 ratio.

I tried airjo sumatra light roast and results were sour mostly as BB+ struggles with low temp of 160F. Tried Vittoria dark roast mountain blend and got just one shot right out of about 20. Will try something medium roast but fresher.

          • @sixsense:

Thanks for details, would you go for darker roast with 1:1.5 ratio or medium with 1:2 ratio.

I am not measuring to precision but will get a scale soon….I miss my second hand Z7, don't have to think.

Also I am not an espresso drinker so not that picky on the extraction, but….

I would sure stay away from Vittoria.

if you are into light to medium roast, try grind at 5 (may be even smaller if the flow is too fast) and brew with the single wall double basket. Also try to do a custom pre infusion.

You may be get a bag of 500g Aldi medium roast and try. its only $8. 🤣🤣

    • This does have PID control (it's a thermo-coupler). You can program the temperature +/- 2 deg C in 1 deg increments

  • +2

Thanks op, got one. Good starter machine
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/85402/96118/551694d7-c…

  • If you haven't owned a coffee machine before, this one is the go. Really does it all and not half bad at it.

The last time the price was this good (although with combined offers/ gift cards) was around July/ August last year.

FYI you can get third party filters and descaling tablets on Amazon in bulk for cheap. Good stuff.

  • +1

I have a breville grinder (smart pro), should I get the Breville Infuser on sale or is this better?

    • also in the same situation

    • +1

If you have SGP, then sure you should look for standalone machine but why Infuser? May be a Gaggia I stead?

Edit…. Ah build in PID, but Gaggia looks better.

      • I believe Gaggia classic pro is $150-$180 more expensive. My max budget is around $450-500 or 520ish :(

        • +1

bambino plus. 3 sec startup and auto milk frother. its a great little machine

    • also in the same situation. Might use one of the grinder for decaf beans

  • +1

Been using this machine for about 3 years now, got it with an ebay plus deal when it was around this price. Have only just had to replace the group head gasket last week. Minimum 2-3 coffees a day.

  • +1

So…..what beans are you all going to start with?

    • +1

      Coffee beans.

  • +1

Why is the Salted Liquorice 1 cheaper than the other 2 colors?

    • I'll take a guess and say it's not as popular.

    • And while we’re on the subject; how is ‘salted liquorice’ a different colour than plain liquorice??

      • It has white speckles.

    • It is Good Guys exclusive. You wont find it elsewhere

  • Been wanting one of these for ages. Cheers

  • It's not quite clear but apparently this code ends 14/6

  • Thanks op! Managed to score one click & collect.

  • Can't seem to apply HOMEFY on the checkout page. Tested eBay mobile or website. Others having a similar issue?

    • Do you have a non Australian eBay account?
I have this issue all the time with my account and have to use my wife’s.

      • Thanks! Yes, originally opened a UK eBay account. Wonder if I can have they changed to Australia!?

        • +1

If you contact ebay customer service they can fix this for you. Did over the phone for me last year

  • +4

I just noticed that it might be cheaper going to Good Guys directly as they have this offer going

    • Qualifying customers are NOT required to lodge a claim, however customers who have
opted out of email and/or marketing communications from The Good Guys will forfeit
any Bonus Store Credit earned as part of this promotion.

      • How do you tell if you have opted out?

    • I just read through the T&Cs for the store credit (link) and apparently it will be issued on 14 July and must be used within 7 days. Not necessarily a deal-breaker but definitely something to be aware of.

  • For those that are keen to buy the Dual Boiler, this might be the last chance in getting it with a standalone price. Having seen TGG, JB and Bing Lee stores sold out of stock.
Seems Binglee ebay is the last place that has it for around $1000.

Most places (TGG, Appliance online) are now selling the Dual Boiler Stainless steel with the smart grinder as a package for a discounted price of 1699, which is way over the 999 + 250 price. The Black sesame colour is available for the Dual Boiler but its over 1500.

Hopefully anyone that want one can pick it up for sub $1000 price.

    • +2

      Nahh
They bring it back for all the major sales - Easter, eofy, Black Friday / cyber Monday, Christmas/boxing day
I got pretty scared and jumped on it but I’ve noticed that trend. Could be wrong but prior to Easter it was out of stock for 4 months.

  • Harvey has it for $999

I would strongly recommend people do the research before buying it.

For me, it’s too big and too much trouble for a coffee.

  • +8

$539.10 through The Good Guys themselves - promo code is CHILLY10.

Plus get $80 in store credit if you click and collect.

    • -5

Barista Express and BB+ price the same? LOL that is the one of tbe most F up pricing in electronics I have ever seen!!

TBH, new heating system and auto milk with non existence control vs old heating system with useless pressure gauge but a build in mid core grinder. Don't know which one is more a rip off @ $599

    • +2

$120 credit if you pay using Paypal's pay in 4 instalments and click & collect.
