This popular machine is going for $599 (down from $749) at the good guys. Buy it via their eBay store to save an extra $60 with Code HOMEFY (can't see when this code expires unfortunately) = $539. Free click and collect for everyone, or free shipping for eBay plus.

If you're really keen, you can get eight $50 'TCN Gift' gift cards with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703187 (which is effectively 10% back), saving another $40. New total = $499. I say eight because you can't use more than eight gift cards on eBay. Can confirm I have done this successfully and picked up the machine at TGG an hour later.

Could even try with Shopback and get an extra 3% for new customers or 1% back for existing customers - not 100% sure it will work with gift cards though.

      Applying the code gives error:
The promotion code you have entered is not available at this time. Please try again later.

  • Oh.. I ordered last night.. just received pick up message :(

  • Has the code expired!! Tried HOMEFY and it says incorrect code.
But managed to buy thru GoodGuys website directly. They have 10% discount codes CHILLY10

  • I have the sunbeam barista max for a couple years & honestly it produces very decent shots once you learnt how to do it. Purchased around $350-400 on sale. The Breville has more aesthetics. Has anyone here experienced both machines?

  • I bought this at the start of 2020 and i have been very happy with the machine.

  • Took me a week to come to terms with spending $539 but picked one up today. So happy, coffee so good. Wish I'd got onto it earlier this week on the other store credit deal.

  • I ordered and got my Breville Barista Express last week. After using it for 2 days I realized no matter how fine I grind, the pressure level is not increasing after reaching 50% in the gauge. After looking at several videos on YouTube, I realized I have received a faulty machine and I got it replaced. My new machine is working fine and it has proper pressure as Breville advertised. Something to check if you are buying this.

(Btw, my 2nd machine is not Salted Liquorice because it was OOS. I ended up buying the normal silver one which I had to pay 80 more. Also I got to know that Salted Liquorice is cheaper because it is Good Guys exclusive)

    Thank you OP :)

    • Who did you contact for replacement? I believe I might have the same issue, I can never get above 50% on the pressure gauge no matter what setting I grind at…

Hi Shills, I just took it to Good Guys and explained the issue. They just offered me a replacement or refund.
Never call the Breville customer support. They are the worst customer care i have seen. They lied to me and said the guage never goes above 50% as it is programmed to work like that. I dont know how they lie to customers like that. Just go to Good Guys.
Also I am not sure if the Salted Liquorice is low in quality because it is Good Guys exclusive. Price difference between that one and the normal silver colour one is 100. According to Good Guys that difference is only for color.

      • It looks like there are many faulty machines. I also have same issue and need to replace it.

    • Thought the pressure on mine was pretty low as well. Im still making nice coffees with the burr at standard settings and the side wheel on 6. 30 sec shot etc, But my expresso range on the shot its only in the first quarter of expresso range. When I put the rubber cleaning disc (no hole) in, The most pressure my machine will put out is right in the middle of the the "Expresso range" on the gauge.

Hmm im happy with what im making, but concerned that as the machine ages, the pressure issue might become a problem.

When you got the new machine that reads right on the guage, did you think the actual pressure was higher, or perhaps its just a gauge calibration issue?

      • I got the replacement but it's exactly same. pressure test with the cleaning disc(without hole) only can reach to 11 o'clock. I'm not sure it's really low pressure or gauge calibration issue. I don't have any other tool to measure the pressure. I may get the refund. The good guy staff told me they got many returns due to this gauge issue.

        • I guess this pressure gauge is not faulty. It looks like the default pressure setting(OPV) is 9 bar(11 o'clock) now.
Breville product pages shows it operates at 9 bar now.

some people did OPV mod to make 9 bar. https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/comments/u75o71/how_to_opv…

@solpiry: Thanks for commenting and posting that link. Its good to know that it can be opened up and adjusted in the future to boost or reduce pressure. Im happy with the coffee its making and in some ways happier that it dosent have too high a pressure. Too high a pressure would make it a bit more finicky too make good shots I suspect which is probably why breville have reduced the brew pressure.

Thanks for sharing your experience, saved me an awkward trip and conversation at the good guys.

The written guide is great too.

@solpiry: Hi @solpiry thanks for sharing these details. With my 1st machine I did the following things to get a higher pressure and a longer extraction time.

            • Tried 2 different freshly roasted beans with finer grind size (even adjusted the inner burr)

            • Always used 18g dose and used the tamping distributor and also tried to use the exact tamping pressure to maintain consistency

No matter what parameters I changed to get a longer extraction it always showed me a pressure gauge of 10 o'clock and the extraction time was always 12 to 15 seconds.

In my new machine I get a proper extraction (25 seconds and about 38g of espresso from 18g of beans). And you are right the pressure gauge never goes above 11 o'clock when i do the pressure test. But according to Breville's manual it should show you Low-Range/Ideal-Range/Over-Extraction Range.

Looks like either their manuals are not updated or the latest models dont have the default pressure set correctly. Very basic error from their side.
