There's a lot of informative comments / opinions about olive oil and this Red Island stuff compared to Cobram on a previous deal post for Red Island Olive Oil
extra virgin olive oil is not good for fry?
You can fry with extra virgin olive oil. The smoke point is about 200 degrees.
A widely believed falsehood.

Their experiment revealed that a high smoke point wasn't related to oil safety. In fact, the higher the oil's smoke point, the more polar compounds it produced. Results showed that during heat exposure, extra-virgin olive oil created the least amount, followed by coconut oil and other virgin oils like avocado oil and high-oleic seed oils. Although canola oil has a reputation for being healthy, it produced the most polar compounds when heated.

eBay fan? Is there such a thing? :P
I got a Kogan fan. Is good.
Is Kogan. Is Good.

I scored 2 containers of this last time it was on special. We have already finished the first 3l container and it is delicious. Highly recommend it.
There is a couple of ways you can tell if its good.
I pour a little on a small white saucer and look at the colour, the greener it is the better.
I also just go with the taste test, should have a strong almost bitter flavour that hits the back of your throat.
Last year I received a 17 Litre container of extra virgin from a close friend that produces a substantial amount of olive oil in Crete, and it was excellent - just as I described.
Aldi Extra virgin is also v good in my opinion.
Is this the one you're talking about?
The regular price of the Aldi one is $10/L, so almost half price of Red Island. Both are Australian made. I've tried Red Island but not the Aldi.
Choice rates the Aldi one 77% and the Red Island at 65%
I haven't tried this one, I meant the 3.78litre container. https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/pantry/olive-oil/olive-…
It's made in Spain though. Some people in a previous thread say Australian oil will be more fresh and not as degraded by heat. Also there's the bonus of supporting Australian made.
I see they updated their scoring in 2021 - those two used to be rated the other way around. I couldn't find an archive of the old review from 2017 but I'm sure scoring is mentioned in older posts here prior to Dec 21 when they updated.
'should have a strong almost bitter flavour that hits the back of your throat"..
That's what she said..
Be aware this is 2021 harvest, 2022 is coming now so they have to get rid of the old one. It's still fine but not the freshest
When is the 2022 batch harvested/sold?
I mainly use it for cooking. At under $6/L it's a bargain.
Will save the Cobram for the dressing/dipping oil.
For those wondering the maximum amount to spend on the Apple gift cards: 50000/20=$2500.
Great oil, such a big container to poor from though :(
3l = 4 x 750ml bottle refills.
I decant into a squeeze bottle
