  • where can one buy evoo that is actually from italy these days?

  • I think Aldi has the same price for their variant of olive oil

    • Last week I saw 3.78L plastic bottles around $49.

      • Not a good idea to store olive oil in plastic.

    • their variant of olive oil

They use a 'variant' of olive oil ???

      • whether it's cold pressed or not

  • Prices going down? Well thats a first.

  • Frankly, I do not trust overseas olive oil.

    • I used to agree but europe better than other places, question is why trust australian?

      • Australian olive oil will be 100% pure but the olives are crap compare to the European olives and produces a sub par oil that is overpriced.

Their trees are over hundreds of years old and the fruit they get is more flavourful compare to the farms over here which at best is like 20-30 years old.

I have tried all the supermarket brands and also bought from a few olive farms direct and they all taste bland vs the Spanish olive oils. You just need to taste la esplanola evoo and you get this explosion of fruit flavours. The 4l tin cans are the best as it prevents light from oxidising the oil.

        • so your saying spanish olive oil better than cobram estate?

@Senatekill: It's better than any Australian made olive oil period.

            I've tried them all.

If you think you know a brand that's got bold fruity olive flavours let me know and I'll buy it.

            • @r33tom: interesting my missus mom is from chyna i just sent her heaps of cobram estate olive oil…..1l on special may have been $15 still a rip off, should have posted her the spanish shit

              • @Senatekill: Don't worry they will love it because it's Australian made. Plus they will just use it to cook with and it doesn't really matter when you use it that way.

          • @Senatekill: Spain>Turkey>Italy>Greece>Other Mediterranean Countries> Australia
Australia is not an olive country, if you ask about AU wine I would say as par France or better than Franks.
Same crying terane on every olive oil deal.

        • This is a pretty wrong take…

A single varietal, heritage-grove olive oil from Spain is going to be incredibly expensive and definitely not the same as the $50 4L tin from Coles… I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s adulterated with lower grades of oil.

Meanwhile even just the purple label Cobram EVOO will blow all other supermarket olive oil out of the water and are much cheaper to get then equivalent quality European oil. Their premium blends are even better and compete with the best globally - definitely worth trying if you can.

Why has woollies rated it only 3 stars? Isn't olive oil supposed to be 5 stars on the nutritional scale?
