ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa: Bonus 160,000 Qantas Points & $225 Back ($3,000 Spend in 3 Months, $425 Fee) - ANZ Customers Only

4880

Deal link goes to public product page because I couldn't work out how to submit this deal without a link - look at description or screenshot

Found this huge Qantas Points offer in the ANZ app a couple of days ago:

An exclusive offer to ANZ customers only.
Earn 160,000 bonus Qantas Points and $225 back to your new card when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval. New card. T&Cs, >eligibility criteria, fees and charges apply (including an Annual Fee, currently $425). Screenshot

You can get to this offer via ANZ Internet Banking in browser, or in the ANZ App.

If you aren't an ANZ customer: I mentioned this offer to a friend who then opened a transaction account and was able to immediately see the offer in their new internet banking and apply for the card. The basic ANZ transaction account is $5 a month, which you can get waived if you deposit $2k into the account each month (doesn't need to stay in the account). You could close the account once you get your bonus points (possibly once you get the card?)

Aside from this massive number of bonus points, card features are:

  • Earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $7,500 per statement period
  • A higher Qantas Points earn rate compared to all other ANZ Frequent Flyer cards
  • Uncapped Qantas Points
  • Complimentary Frequent Flyer Membership and a discount on a 1 year Qantas Club membership
  • Two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year
  • Complimentary insurances including International Travel Insurance
  • Up to 55 days interest free on purchases

You can see the general details of the card (at it's usual lower offer value) here

I think this might be the highest consumer bonus points offer available at the moment, I certainly haven't seen any higher recently.

If you haven't earned Qantas Points from a credit card in the past 12 months, you may be able to stack with the New Cardholder Bonus of 20,000 points (from Qantas). The ANZ Black card is listed on the relevant page, and it doesn't specify that you have to click through the Qantas page to get the offer, but I haven't tried! The New Cardholder Bonus from Qantas ends on March 31 (there's no end date listed for the ANZ card offer).

Edit: Clarified end date in post applies to 20k top-up offer, not 160k sign-up offer.

        • I'm having the same issue after submitting via pc. I'm getting that error message telling me to call anz

Who did you speak to (which team)? And how did you manage to get it sorted?

    • I'd love to know in their eyes why a single customer would apply for the same card 3 times. You'd pay 3 times the annual fee, get 1/3 of the bonus with a total credit limit that you could have had with a single card.

Logic 100% escapes back office bank staff

      • Yep…when he asked me if I didn’t actually want the 3 cards, i thought he was being sarcastic…..but no he wasn’t……

        • -3

3 cards would have netted you 480k Qantas points.

  • Does anyone know if paying council rates fair game with this card?

    • In the past, I have been able to pay off my strata and bills with ANZ black card via beem it, I assume ANZ black FF is the same but YMMV

      • pay via Beem It or Sniip

  • Approved instantly (online) and received an email after few mins. Pretty efficient tbh.

    • mine still hasnt got back after 3 days

      • Received the card and welcome package in the mail. This is my best experience applying for credit cards so far.

  • Had a pay rise and they wanted a confirmation from employer to say that. I said it's on the pay slip, the hourly rate is there showing the increase.

I told them don't be silly, I didn't get a pay cut and got a pay rise and stop asking for things you don't need.

I was asking for the minimum credit as well and not asking for anything too high which more than covers it. Said it isnt my first card with you either and I haven't changed employees for 9 years.

Then said ok, then said they will look into it. Then went through line by line all the expenses over the phone to confirm. Never told me anything and one day card just rocked up. No email or phone call to confirm. Have had 3 cards with ANZ black and never been this hard. The new assessment team is useless tbh.

    • Very similar experience, it seems like "protocols" overrule common sense when it comes to reviewing information. I applied on the 8th May and still waiting on final decision. I have had a slight adjustment to my annual salary (minor increase due to performance appraisal and the standard CPI increase), it has been reflected in payslip. They rang and asked for a document to verify. Sent through and they said it's not dated or signed, even though it mentions that my new salary takes effect from April 2022.

  • For those who haven't received the initial email after completing the application please call them. They said my application was stuck in the system. They pushed it through and immediately received the email. Application was approved 24 hours later.

All the id and credit checks, and my card arrives as Mrs Alex, wtf! Worst bank ever

  • Anyone have the number to callup to check for your application status? Submitted all the payslips requirement since last Wed and heard nothing from them.

    • It'll be through their general enquiry number 13 13 14

  • I hope someone can help with me. I'm looking at applying for the card but I am building a home (at slab stage) + renting. Should I put the purchase price of my land under properties/total combined ownership?

    • If you're also going to include the loan you used to buy it, yes.

      • Awesome! Also, if I am getting $250/week from my bf as his share for our current rent do I count that as income? So complicated lol

        • You should lower the rent amount by that. It’s your share of expenses not total expenses. If you put it as income they’ll ask for proof which you won’t really be able to provide (it’s not like you have a lease I imagine)

  • Anyone received the $225 yet? Does it really take 3 months from the date you hit the $3k spend?

    • I received it yesterday

      • When did you make the 3k spend?

        • About two weeks ago

  • Anyone have any experience with cancelling and getting their annual fee back, perhaps pro-rated?

I know NAB does something like this, but does ANZ?

  • Finally got approved after much back and forth. You'd think already having this card 3 years ago with a lower salary than now, it would have been a cinch. But no!
Much higher salary, that gets deposited into ANZ bank account and they still wanted pay slips. And asked me regarding specific deposits into my account. I get reimbursed from the boss when I'm out on the road and have to spend for the company.

    • did they ask you to send your bank statements too? or just payslips

      • Payslips only. Since they already had access to my account

        • Cool! I just returned my payslips. How long did it take before your approval after submitting the requirements?

          • @tturtles: They said it would take 24-48 hours when they called on a Thursday. Monday came, and no call, so I called them myself. They approved it while I was speaking to them and answered their questions.

            • +1

@he11bent: Similar thing happened to my partner. Submitted payslips over a week then called them to check. CS promised will look into it. An hour later, the approval msg came.

  • Finally got this: From ANZ - Congratulations, your ANZ credit card application has been approved! You will receive the Card, Welcome Kit & PIN within 3-5 business days. Thank you for banking with us.

  • +2

8 payslips down and still no approval.

Every time I call they come up with another dumb requirement about why I need to submit more documentation.

    Has truly been painful

  • How long after approval do you get the points?

  • does one get pro rated fee refund if cancelled within 12 months?

    • +1

      No.

  • Was approved within 24 hours, payslips sent approved a few hours later - v quick, just waiting on the card now

  • I have a pretty complex set up income wise and my salary is quarterly. The amount I earn seems to surpass their requirements, but even so, should I bother applying given people are having issues with fortnightly payslips? Anyone similar to my situation have experience with these muppets? If not, I'll give it a crack and report back for the sake of the interweb's knowledge.

I'd also need to go through the rigmarole of setting up an ANZ account to access this this…

  • In the past ANZ has returned the discount for annual fee straight away, however this time around I have been charged but haven't got the discount yet. Do I need to call them or are they taking their time with this?

  • +1

On the approval front, it was surprisingly better this time around. I sent them 3 months worth of payslips which is a total of 6 but they asked for a 7th one since 3 months is 7 fortnights according to them :) Once this was sent I got the approval within a few hours.

  • Sent them 8 payslips just to be told I still need more evidence (work for health NSW, 100k PA). Complained on FB about how terrible the process has been and was approved within 48h with no further documents.

  • Currently hold a Rewards Black card only (no other accounts with ANZ) which is due for closure end of month before annual fee hits. I can see this offer under offers page, but will it still work if I applied for this (to be qualified as existing customer), then cancel Rewards Black after application? Don't want the risk of not being eligible for 160k Qantas points (vs 100k as "new" customer).

    • You could also just open a free account (I think some of the other comments have suggested some no-fee accounts) to make it simpler. As you're already a customer opening an account should be pretty painless.

  • Can someone please confirm if they still see this offer please?

  • Only got offered 11k limit and platinum card. Anyone got any idea how they calculate the limit offered?

    • Probably best to ask in the platinum deal?

I think a lot of us only went for the minimum $15k limit for this deal.

      • Thanks, just gave them a call and they don't include my salary sacrifice.. might have to settle for plat

  • How much is 160000 qantas points worth

    • even at the lowest end of the scale it's still over $1000

      • +1

        Actually that isn't true.

Wish (Woolies) GC are 10,390 points for $50. This works out to be $750 with 4,150 points left over.

        • +2

But that's the worst way to use points. But it is fair, you found something that's less than a $1000, I'll give you that lol

          • +1

@he11bent: Pretty sure all the gift cards have similar exchange rate points wise lol

But I do agree, you are losing value by exchanging FF into GC.

            • @CodeXD: What do you exchange them for?

              Like only flights?

              • @gungirlyuna: Flights are the best value. Have a read through the comments here.

  • +1

FYI - would recommend everyone calling them to verify the deal they got (seeing as they do not send it out in their welcome offer letters).

I'm an existing customer, and for some reason did not get the 160k deal applied to my card (I got the 100k + 30k for new customers).
I had to spend some time with them and they are emailing their loyalty team to rectify this.

    • +4

There is no need to verify. Only call them up if you don't get the 160k once you have reached your minimum spent and only got 100k. No need to be paranoid about it.

    • Just curious how long it took to receive the points? I've hit my spend and hoping its not a (up to) 3 month wait!

      • +1

Interested in that as well. Hit my my spend on the third day. Might give them a call next week to see where it's at

        • I imagine they'll just say the generic "it can take up to 90 days" because they can't make promises, but if you do call them and they say something different, that would be interesting!

          • +1

@frogduck: Yeah, I'll do that come Monday, too busy today with work to bother.

  • Applied yesterday. Got approval this evening after sending 4 payslips through yesterday. Already have the rewards black which I will be cancelling now that I have this (they promised to reverse the fees charged already). Applied with same income (despite a recent pay rise) because it would be too much hassle to prove given their 3 month requirement. Surprising honestly given all the issues people have. I assumed I might have trouble getting a second 15k limit card with them, but no issues at all. There doesn’t appear to be much consistency in their approvals or rejections.

    • Do you have any other CC or just the Rewards black before applying for this? I'm in a similar boat to you, my anniversary date is coming up mid-May so plan to apply sometime next week, then cancel Rewards Black.

      • Just the rewards black. My anniversary date has passed already but I preempted and got them to guarantee a fee reversal. Guy said there was no rush in needing to close the rewards black, they will just reverse the fees when I go to cancel.

Both times it was a smooth process. They take a little longer than say AMEX, but at the end of the day I didn’t have to give them anything other than payslips both times.

  • Submitted yesterday and approved today with 2 latest payslips even though I currently have ANZ Rewards Platinum Visa and am waiting for their reply about "Am I eligible for this offer".

  • +1

    This has been so painful.
Current ANZ credit card holder already.
Husband applied 5 April… sent through last 3 months bank statements showing salary to portal as requested.
3 weeks later still no response from them, call to ask what’s going on, they want a further 3 months payslips (hubs has overtime pay for FT job, plus a casual job, plus they were confused about the third salary going into our account - which is mine smh)
Call back the next day…. They want another 10!!!! payslips from FT job, plus another 4 months from casual job.
His FT base income alone meets requirements, so no idea why the need all of this.
    Still no approval yet 😡

    • +2

His FT base income alone meets requirements, so no idea why the need all of this.

Because you gave them too much information - just state the FT income alone, and send payslips so they don't get over-excited

      • Will remember that for next time!

        • Yeah you messed up unfortunately. Now they are scrutinising everything in your account rather than just relying on payslips plus declared expenses. Had zero issues just giving them that. I don’t think they really care if you make it up as long as it’s realistic. The only proof needed is the payslip to verify income.

          • @Rupture: Yes and no. The simpler your affairs are the easier it is to work with ANZ, but imagine if you have an investment property and don't declare the rental income, now it looks like you are servicing two mortgages off one income. It's not strictly as easy as just declaring salary for everyone, it depends on your circumstance.

    • Maybe they want to max out the amount of credit they can give him?

  • Applied Wednesday night, email request thurs morn to supply payslips. Gave them 3.5 months worth Thursday night. Approved Friday arvo. Not sure how others get the third degree before being approved

  • anyone knows how to get the free lounge pass? can apply online?

    • +1

      From their instructions:
Account holders may request no more than two Qantas Club Complimentary Invitations in any 12 month period by calling the ANZ Personal Concierge on 1300 580 765

      • Are these the invitations we can request and then sell on fleabay for 25 bucks or so?

  • Anyone having problems getting there card? Twice now they have sent it and only the pin/welcome pack has arrived…
Address is correct and i have a camera over my mail box so definitely hasn't been stolen.

  • +3

Called ANZ - Since I spent over $3k in the first week of receiving the card - Was told that I have to wait after the 3 months period regardless before the points get authorised to my frequent flyer. Annoying but whatever, still a good haul of points.

    • Did they say anything about the $225 refund? I saw on my statement the full $425 was deducted.

    • Same, called today. A bit silly that it takes 3 statement generations for the points to be added. Would love to close this one off and get on the next card.

    • Oh no wonder I wasn't getting anything. I ended up spending a bit more on this card in case some of my transactions weren't eligible…

  • I have an ANZ internet banking account as my superannuation is with ANZ Smart Choice and also I used to have an ANZ credit card. Does this count as being an "existing ANZ customer" in order to be eligible for this offer?

    • You should be able to login and see if the offer's there.

  • +1

Got the 20k bonus Qantas points this morning! Registered in March this year before applying for this card.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688273

    • Nice, I registered for the offer in March but only applied for this card in April. Any idea if I would be eligible still?

  • Does anyone know if they offer a free secondary card (same account) as NAB does?

    • +1

      See their T&Cs:

For additional cardholders on ANZ Rewards, ANZ Rewards Platinum, ANZ Rewards Black and ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures, an annual Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and an annual Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 will apply per additional cardholder on the account.

  • Has this expired or can I still use it?

  • I have cancelled my ANZ Qantas frequent flyer Black in Jan 2021 (more than 12 months ago) and currently has an ANZ Rewards Black opened in Nov 2021 (6 months ago), can I still apply for this (Frequent Flyer Black Visa) again to get the 160,000 QFF points? Just double checking to be sure.

    Many thanks,

    • On the eligibility of the bonus points, yes. But they may consider about your ability to repay with the Rewards card + Frequent flyer.

  • Applied Monday night, got a call on Tuesday asking for payslip, approved on Wednesday.

  • -1

Applied on May 11, approved May 12 the day the deal ended, hopefully no issues but will find out in a few months…

Edit: Actually I can still see the offer in the portal, think it's still on.

  • Offer not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months.

Did anyone knew if they count to the day?
I just closed my previous ANZ FF Black on 7 May 2021. Is it too risky to apply now?
