    For what card?

You don't have to apply for the credit card before 31 March. You just have to register for the offer by that date.

So rules out 99.9% of all ozbargainers :(

    Good deal though

    • Doesn’t matter, register for data errors ;-)

I haven't had a QFF card for longer than 12 months, I guess it sounds like a good time now lol

Any suggestions for a first time Qantas card holder?

    • +5

If it's your first time delving into the world of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and associated points, my shotgun response would be the 'ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum' card (https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…). Current promotion is 70,000 Qantas Points for discounted annual fee for the first year of $0 after spending $2,500 eligible purchases.

Over time, if you choose to stick with Qantas, explore sites like Pointhacks for deals, consider whether credit card churning is for you - then there will be other options where the initial bonus point outlay can be greater (e.g. 100,000 points) but you would be paying a discounted annual fee and entering territory of increased income requirements/minimum spend.

P.S. Remember to cancel the ANZ Credit Card before the next annual fee is due. The ongoing annual fee is not worth it.

      • Does this stop you from applying for the ANZ Black card?

        • There are two ANZ 'Black' cards:
          1. ANZ Frequent Flyer Black
          2. ANZ Rewards Black

Based on the T&C, and IIRC comments from the OzBargain community, it is possible to be eligible for the bonus points offer if applying for the ANZ Rewards Platinum/Black in addition to the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum/Black, as they are different rewards schemes (assuming all other eligibility criteria such as not holding a ANZ Frequent Flyer/Rewards card in the past 12 months)

However, applying for both an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, and an ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card should not permit eligibility of the bonus points offer simultaneously. I.e. I wouldn't expect someone to be getting the bonus 100,000 + 70,000 points in the same 12 month period.

Whether the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card is a better deal than the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card, or whether it's worthwhile gunning for both the ANZ Rewards and ANZ Frequent Flyer program is a whole other topic for which there would be numerous considerations which would almost venture into personal finance discussion including income, approach to points collecting, target airlines, impact to credit rating, total unsecured liability, impact to getting new personal/home loans, etc.

            @shift6: I can confirm this.

            1. I had my ANZ Rewards Black with bonus 180000 ANZ rewards points at 2021-11
            2. I also got approved ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum with bonus 70000 Qantas points at 2021-12
            3. After redeemed all ANZ rewards points I canceled ANZ Rewards Black at 2022-02
            4. ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum is still active as my only rewards credit card.

So in summary, ANZ Rewards series and ANZ Frequent Flyer series are different. You can apply both of them and get bonus points.

The last post that really got you really triggered was a free beer for vaccinated…probably gives enough context for those curious about this fella's agenda

His negative vote was overturned on that post also (and on the free Telstra points for vaccinated)

Heads up, quite a few of the cards are like 130k or 120k points, but they are starting to do the split over 1st year 90k and 2nd year 20-30k points etc.

Card cycling wise makes them all pretty similar when you facotr this 20k bonus if eligible etc.

  • +2

This even works if you've recently applied or even started using a card, as long as you register for the deal before you get your first points credited to your FF.

    • Thanks, didn’t realise that. Recently got the NAB Qantas Signature card last month and have hit the $3,000 spend..fingers crossed it works

      • Would suggest delaying your first CC repayment for as long as possible, so those first points take a while to show up.

  • I wonder if I change my card type if I can get this? I know the banks won't award points on product changes but Qantas might.

New to this approach - what have peoples experiences been with points being credited and how long it takes. I'm flying with Qantas in June, was thinking one of these cards could be useful for a seating or class upgrade for the flight - do the bonus points generally get credited once you spend the minimum spend, or at the end of the minimum spend requirement period.

Say if it's spend $3k within 90 days, do you generally see the points credited once you've spent the $3k or at the end of the 90 day period?

    • +2

Depends on the card but usually fairly quick after the spend, typically by the next statement.
Some times a quick call after reaching minimum spend to chase up will get actioned quicker.

Terms and conditions will day they have some long period like 90 days after spend to credit but I think it's rare to be waiting long.

      • Thanks for the response!

    • +1

Note it will depend on your seat class whether you'll be able to use points to upgrade. Bargain basement seats are very restricted.

      • Thanks, appreciate the heads up!

  • Qantas points make you pay the credit cart annual fee ?

  • Best ones are maybe 70k points with a low or no fee, plus the 20k bonus

Alot are $300 fees for 90k pts

  • -6

yay lets have some points I will never use.

    • -1

you should get out more. see the world.

I saw the world before covid, anyone stupid enough to travel now its only asking to be infected, Thank god I traveled the world before covid.

  • [Targeted] 18 year olds applying for credit first time

    • if your 18 save you money and don't get sucked into a credit card. 20,000 points is useless in a covid infested world.

  • -1

I traveled the world before covid when traveling was good. I wouldn't travel now to any country during this time not even if you paid me.

    • Many countries take masks more seriously than Australia does. Now is the best time to travel because the most prevalent covid strain is manageable without hospitalisation generally. That's obviously an important factor in travelling to a foreign country

      • its not the other countries I don't trust it is Australians, they will not do the right thing and bring back some bad crap to this country when they come back. I have seen NSW and VIC in action I know how bad they are.

        • Theres definitely a chance. Having a negative pcr test is still an entry requirement, but ofc it only minimises, not stops, covid transmission to Australia. In saying that, people will keep travelling and covid will transmit one way or another. Many travellers are returning to their homes and visiting grandparents, spouses, etc so that can't stop. The lockdowns just meant all was delayed and now everyone is travelling to catch up on 2 years of lost time. And to many, the risk of covid is a lot less than not getting to see your parents one more time before they pass away for example

          • -3

@Ibz: Queensland was doing well with ZERO cases then they opened the border and NSW and VIC decided to screw that up.

  • It let me register even though I had a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature card less than 6 months ago. Not sure if it was meant to block me or if I just won't receive any points despite being "registered".

    • you can register though you might not get te extra 20k points.

  • I just signed up for the champagne mile NAB card. My first frequent flyer card. Will this deal work with that card?

    • Welcome aboard!
Certainly, it’s card 4 of 34 on the list

  • What has been peoples experience applying for credit cards as a contractor?

I have done well from credit card sign ups in the past, but I was always a salaried full time employee.

I am now on a six month contract (with a reasonable day rate).

Am I likely to encounter issues with credit card applications?

  • The points offer seems to have disappeared from the Qantas website. Has anyone had this issue?

    • I can still see the offer from go to deal link.

  • +1

    Anyone received their points yet?

    • Not yet. I used the same offer few years ago and the bonus 20k arrived one day after points from credit card statement hit QF account. This time their algorithm seems different, points from the first statement arrived almost a week ago.

  • +1

For info, I just called QFF and they said the 20k bonus points will be credited between 6 and 8 weeks from the date you registered for the offer. Hope this helps.

  • Did I need to have a new card by 31/03 or just sign up for the offer by then? I signed up for this offer in March, but only just applied/got a new card earlier this month (and already reached my spend requirements for points). Not really fussed if I missed out but would be a cool bonus!

  • Logged into my account and I've received the 20k points!

  • Got my bonus points on 4/5 after having my first ANZ statement points transfered 27/4!

  • Got mine too. It took about 3 weeks from CC points date.
