ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa: Bonus 160,000 Qantas Points & $225 Back ($3,000 Spend in 3 Months, $425 Fee) - ANZ Customers Only

4880

Deal link goes to public product page because I couldn't work out how to submit this deal without a link - look at description or screenshot

Found this huge Qantas Points offer in the ANZ app a couple of days ago:

An exclusive offer to ANZ customers only.
Earn 160,000 bonus Qantas Points and $225 back to your new card when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval. New card. T&Cs, >eligibility criteria, fees and charges apply (including an Annual Fee, currently $425). Screenshot

You can get to this offer via ANZ Internet Banking in browser, or in the ANZ App.

If you aren't an ANZ customer: I mentioned this offer to a friend who then opened a transaction account and was able to immediately see the offer in their new internet banking and apply for the card. The basic ANZ transaction account is $5 a month, which you can get waived if you deposit $2k into the account each month (doesn't need to stay in the account). You could close the account once you get your bonus points (possibly once you get the card?)

Aside from this massive number of bonus points, card features are:

  • Earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $7,500 per statement period
  • A higher Qantas Points earn rate compared to all other ANZ Frequent Flyer cards
  • Uncapped Qantas Points
  • Complimentary Frequent Flyer Membership and a discount on a 1 year Qantas Club membership
  • Two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year
  • Complimentary insurances including International Travel Insurance
  • Up to 55 days interest free on purchases

You can see the general details of the card (at it's usual lower offer value) here

I think this might be the highest consumer bonus points offer available at the moment, I certainly haven't seen any higher recently.

If you haven't earned Qantas Points from a credit card in the past 12 months, you may be able to stack with the New Cardholder Bonus of 20,000 points (from Qantas). The ANZ Black card is listed on the relevant page, and it doesn't specify that you have to click through the Qantas page to get the offer, but I haven't tried! The New Cardholder Bonus from Qantas ends on March 31 (there's no end date listed for the ANZ card offer).

Edit: Clarified end date in post applies to 20k top-up offer, not 160k sign-up offer.

    • It depends on when they considered your card closed. If you go into internet banking and press close on a card it will earn you that the account isnt closed until all pending transactions settle and the account is paid in full.

      • Yes it's not very clear when they consider it closed. Even the closure letter doesn't specify definite date.

To be on safe side, i would wait till 1st June to apply for one.

  • 160k Qantas points are showing in my ANZ statement but not in my Qantas account yet, should show up by tomorrow!
180k Qantas points all up on this deal!!

    • Did you get it? My statement date is today, but haven't got the points yet.

    • same here!
did it show up in your Qantas account yet?
I've only got the 30K sign up bonus so far.

      • Where did you get the 30k sign up bonus? The other deal in description is for 20k.

        • sorry fat fingers, I meant 20k,
I got the 160K points today.

    • Still didnt get it :( called ANZ and they said wait until later today so will call them again tomorrow

      • I read somewhere (cant remember where) that they ad it after the statement is paid. I paid mine off early today so will see how it goes!

        • +1

Got my points showing up in my Qantas account this morning

          • @cloudstrife: Nice, still waiting on mine

          • @cloudstrife: Can I ask when was your statement date?

            • @bluedufflecoat: My points just showed up too :) 160k points today on 25/5. Statement date 22/5, and paid balance off today (not sure if this made any difference). This is my first statement outside of the annual fee one.

              • @frogduck: Thanks, I got mine yesterday. Statement date was 20/5

                • @bluedufflecoat: My statement date was 22/5 and paid it off yesterday. Still no refund or points. Did your refund show up in the app at the same time?

                  • +1

@Booster: Got the $225 back on 6/5, statement date 20/5, points yesterday..I did pay the bill asap but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Check your statement, if it says you've earned the points, it also references your qantas QFF account number, and I expect that it would be just a matter of time.

                    • @bluedufflecoat: I see 3300 points transferred yesterday into my QFF account. So fair to assume I've met the brief? And now just a waiting game? No mention of additional points or $225 cashback yet.

                      • @Booster: Is this your first or second statement?

                        • +1

@bluedufflecoat: Whichever statement you get your $3k spend in, you'll get the 160k points in the next statement.

You can see this yourself when you log onto ANZ banking, select the FF card, then on the left side click reward points.

Once you have met the spend, you will see

Bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points earned this period 160 000

The $225 amount should arrive within a week of your statement where you meet the $3k spend.

                        • @bluedufflecoat: First statement was on the 25/4. That was a total of $425 for card fees. Paid that off a couple days after.

2nd statement was a total of $3350 on the 22/5. But as said - no refund of $225 or the 160k points are provided.

I have seen the 3350 points being transferred (that I earnt) to my QFF.

                          • @Booster:

You can see this yourself when you log onto ANZ banking, select the FF card, then on the left side click reward points.

Can you see the 160k points there?

                            • @CodeXD: Nope don't see the 160k points. Only see 800 or so accrued from recent purchases.

Assume I would see the refund of $225 at the same time I see the points? As in, wait to see the $225 being refunded and know the points should be close by?

Will give it a few days. Thanks for the info!

                              • +1

@Booster: I completed my $3k spend on my second statement which arrived 18th May, received the $225 on 20th May. From this logic, you should have your $225 by 29th May (within a week from statement) and the points show show up in your 'reward points' around that time too.

Haven't received the 160k points yet, but I can see it pending in the current period which I will see in next statement.

                                • @CodeXD: Will keep this in mind and ring anz if it's not their by next week. Thanks again.

                                  • @Booster: I did the spend on the 16th May and the statement was received 23rd May. I checked the Reward Points section and there is no $160K points there, when I called ANZ they said points won't be allocated for 3 months. Is this normal?

                                    • @Your Friend: That’s normal (albeit abnormal!), some are getting it on second statement, some on their third!

  • +1

Definitely concur with some other members here saying the process is difficult.

This is the 3rd time I'm applying for this same card and everytime they haven't made it easy.

This time they're asking for 2 years of income tax returns, latest home loan statements to prove my declared repayment amount is correct and to prove my claim the mortgage is under joint names, digging into my dividend income history, asking for closure letter of another credit card.

Previous CC application experiences with St George and NAB were way better

    • +1

Update: uploaded more docs last Friday after they asked. Haven't heard back since so I called in today to follow up.

Asked me today to provide share holding portfolio as additional. They did not ask me to provide this last week… This is never ending.

      • This is your 3rd time applying for the same card and each time they haven't made it easy yet you still choose to apply for it. I guess you can't really complain as you already know what to expect.

        • -6

No one asked for your opinion

  • This offer was previously showing on my app. It's now decreased to an offer of 80k. Offer gone??

EDIT: Never mind. It's still visible when checking on the browser.

Finally got approved. Felt like an unnecessary struggle. Initially rejected, had to call up to find out why and got the "our overall assessment did not allow us to approve."

Had never been rejected before so I was a bit taken aback. Pretty much gave up at that point but I got a call an hr later from the same lady saying she did a second reassessment and spoke to her higher ups and finally got it approved.

I would've just left it after the first declined notice but after reading comments about calling up, it turned out positive this time

    • +1

Spoke to rep for the fourth time today, this time they wanted to run through expenses, only to be told that I'm unsuccessful for the card, despite me cancelling the Rewards Black (same $15k limit!). I was also taken aback, and argued why I was rejected as previously held Rewards Black and this time have a slight increment in my salary.

They've now asked me to supply statement of my home loan for review. Unsure if I should give up but feel it's a bit wasted to have a credit check but not get the card!

      • +1

So they still decided to reject my application- received e-mail update today. First rejection for a CC application :(

I'm guessing this will still be a hit to credit check/score?

        • The initial enquiry is the hit, although other lenders can put 2 and 2 together when you have an enquiry but no new account shows up.

That said, credit scoring is a crazy business and the only way you really get hit hard is lots of enquiries of the same credit type in a short period, or defaults. So if you take your time before applying for the next card, I doubt it will hurt you.

          • @trotsky: Thanks for explaining, to be safe I will wait for a little bit before applying for the next card. Will be having visitors end June so thought it'll be easy to rake up spend for the points!

Before putting in this application I went for the Optus tablet deal and Telstra nbn offer, do they fall under the same credit type?

  • if you do a balance transfer from old cc to new cc (this cc) - does the previous institution still give you the points? especially where it has been earned that month as yet?

    • +1

If you're talking about your old card, only ever close a card / transfer the balance after the points have landed in your QFF account. I've chatted with amex and nab about this waaay back when I first started churning and they've all said that the points are forfeited if they haven't been dispensed for that month yet. I doubt they've gotten more flexible or generous since then.

  • +4

I got the 160k Qantas points and $225 cashback yesterday.

Took around 3 weeks after meeting the spend requirement.

I only paid bills via Beem It so can confirm these transactions are eligible.

    Onto the next card!

    • I've met the spend requirement (plus some). Did your points show in the ANZ app or waited for the next statement?

      • +1

The points showed up in online banking. I couldn’t view the points in the app.

    • Looks like I need to wait until my next statement for the bonus points to get transferred to my Qantas account. I can see the 160k via online banking in the rewards section.

  • This is now showing 130k points?

    • Still showing up as 160k points on my anz app

      • Yep my bad - it wouldn't keep me logged in when I clicked the offer on the website - so it would revert to showing 130k.

I went through the app and it's 160k

        • Actually, although it's advertising 160k to me through the app, once I follow the link it shows 130k.

I took screenshots and will just raise a dispute if I don't get the full amount.

          • @Harold Halfprice: Turn off your adblocker and check again, was mentioned in earlier comments.

  • Beware of this fine print if you are ordering additional card for your partner. I ordered one thinking it is only $10, stung by another $55 reward fee…"an annual Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and an annual Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 will apply per additional cardholder on the account. "

    • got stung with this as well but was aware of the charge.. would it work/breach any rules if i just had of added my card to my wifes google pay??

      • I am not sure about breaching any rules but my wife and I've loaded up all our cards in our respective google pay accounts and use it to meet spending limit to qualify for bonus.

        • Yep. Same with us. Being doing that for as long since we got NFC phones. We're keeping our cc at home.

      • +1

With google/Samsung/Apple Pay, nobody needs to pay for supplementary cards

        • With the exception of Amex where you can get more offers with more cards.

          • @timhn: True, but those Amex supp cards are free anyways. Although changes at Amex have seen supplementary offers disappear, hopefully only temporarily.

  • Not an ANZ customer currently but interested in this deal. Did anyone recently become a ANZ customer and got this deal?

I note the comments that few people have been successful in this earlier, just want to check if the option of opening ANZ bank account to get this deal is still working?

  • -1

Does anyone know if you can apply for this card and the platinum card at once and get both bonus points? 🙈 Is that possible? Has anyone tried?

  • I received 30k bonus pts to my Qantas account and $225 credit. No sign of 130k or 160k at all.

does receiving 30k mean my application bugged and I didn't get the offer?

    • Have a look on your ANZ statement - it will show the bonus points there. If they're there, they'll still be coming. If not (and you've met the spend target), I'd call ANZ?

    • how long does it take to get the $225 credit back???

      which month billing cycle?

  • My statement on Friday said I am getting the 160k points, but it is Monday and I still haven't got the points yet

  • My points have been received on my ANZ statement 160k. Still yet to show on Qantas FF.
Any idea how long it normally takes?

    • +1

Can take a few days. Mine were there the day before my statement, a friend got hers just under a week later.

  • Called ANZ since I have not received my FF points from 18th May statement.

They advise there is currently an incident preventing ANZ FF points from getting sent to Qantas FF accounts since… 18th May?

Not sure how true this is since a few people here have said they received points in the last 48 hours lol. Maybe they are just trying to fob me off =/

    • did you get the points?

  • I got my last anz bonus points in April 2021 but cancelled the card in September, is the 12 months calculated from bonus points date or from when you cancelled the card ?

    • Neither, it is from when ANZ system records card closure. Not always necessary the same day as when you cancel the card.

  • Cancellation of card

  • I made a rookie error - additional card holders incur a charge and the rewards program also has a fee

  • will ANZ help verify whether you're eligible for the points before signing up? i'm thinking to just head down to a branch, have the rep pull up my details and tell me when i last closed my ANZ accounts

    • Yes, you can also call the sales team and find out.

    • +1

Make sure you get your terminology correct tho. This is ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Which is different to ANZ Rewards Black and each card has their own 12 months calculation.

      • yes thanks for this i read the T&C thoroughly and can confirm now that my previous card was the ANZ travel rewards card, so I should be eligible for the points.

EDIT: my application was immediately rejected. Income certainly not the issue as I make more than double the requirement. I do have 4 other credit cards. About 300k in mortgage but clearly able to pay off my liabilities based on the testing.

Can you reapply through other means and be considered again?

        • +1

And risk getting it rejected again and take another credit file hit? 4 credit cards not enough?

          • @runamuck: getting it for the points, not to accumulate cards. this will be cancelled before the year is up. My 4 credit cards are there to stay, combo of Amex, Master and Visa with wholesale forex benefits.

            • @plentifoo: Well you won’t be cancelling it now……?

        • to all the naysayers here - just an update, i'm through to the payslips part of the application - give 13 33 33 a ring, chat with a phone rep and it'll more than likely get you on your way to approval. The online application is a minefield for rejection, one wrong input and you could be headed for instant rejection.

  • Looks like this is now reduced to 130k?

When logged into my internet banking it says 160k points but when clicking through to the offer it says 130k

    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…

edit - all good, I turned off add blocker as per above

  • Just got approved, after getting initially declined. I think a slight salary bump helped out a bit.

Is there anyway to confirm the offer is active on my account? Since I think a rep 'reapplied' for the card when I asked about why I was declined.

    • Did you reapply by submitting a new application, or just contacted ANZ about the rejection? I was declined too so wondering if I can challenge that

      • I just contacted ANZ. Sent an email to anzcards @anz. com with my reference number and asked for some reasonings. Got a call back and they asked for a bunch of documents. Took just under three weeks from the first email to get an approval SMS.

        • Thanks, just sent an e-mail will see what they say :)

  • Anyone know if anz counts bpay as a transaction or cash advance?

    • +1

Use beem it to bpay, it counts as a transactions and you get points for it.

      • Yeah not for car rego unfortunately

        • +1

oh yeah you won't be able to get any points for government payments lol

  • Just about to finish up my Amex Explorer. Is it worth getting this card or the NAB one for my next churner?

  • Does ANZ refund the annual fee on pro rata bases?

    • +1

No they do not. Only NAB Does it.

      • +1

Also had luck with Citi and Qantas Money.

      • Ok, thanks

  • is there really no minimum income on this card. just realised while going through the eligibility requisites.

    • +1

IIRC Black should be $75k minimum.

    • It’s 75k……verified by your documents

  • Just signed up to ANZ and the card is appearing as a 130,000 point bonus

    • -1

      Because 160k has expired. It's now 130k

    • +1

      Disable adblocker and check again.

      • Definitely this, 160k still showing :)
