Sells for over $500 locally, best ever price according to 3 Camels. As long as you like your music on the bright side (with an elevated treble response) these would make a great budget set-up. Some Amazon reviews mention that they make great desktop speakers as well.

Note - you will have to purchase an amp to drive them. Fosi, Nobsound, SMSL and Topping all make decent ultra low budget ($50-150) amplifiers that have been well reviewed. Here's a Wirecutter roundup of mini amps.

EDIT: Impulse buyers should really read through the comments - as mentioned they have a very bright sound signature, it is not for everyone! I personally wouldn't recommend them unless you know you like that sound.

wow $30 cheaper than the last deal

Far out.. mine just arrived and paid almost $200.. annoying..

do live chat, normally quite helpful

      • Sorry mate, so how do i raise it up with the live chat? Should i just say upfront that can i get a credit or something for the price difference?

        • Yeah just ask for some credit. It’ll be credit to spend on items sold by Amazon AU only.

        • I paid $202 in Feb and just returned them and bought them again.
It's worth the hassle even if it adds to the statistic that pushes Amazon that little bit closer to do price honouring if there's a drop in price.
I have to wait until May to get the replacements though :(

      • worth a try

      • worked for me

      • +3

At first the one who chat wanted me to return the product. After the second chat I just got my $30 credit. Thanks to a customer rep called "Azhar". I paid $205 2 weeks back, it was a $42 different. But at least getting a $30 without going through the hassle of returning is worth the effort.

        • +3

I tried to do the same. I bought two pairs. Was planning to use the second pair for the surround set up. They only offered me $20 credit per item. I said, I was unhappy with the outcome and would like to cancel my prime membership! The dude processed the refund and cancelled my prime membership immediately.
Can't believe it! my prime was paid till September! Now, I don't have access to the prime video and other services! Might have to have another chat after work to get it activated at least till September.

@DuttoBoy: Dude called your bluff lol

            • @richmond12: Unfortunately for me he did.

            • @richmond12: Reached out to amazon again. They said they could not re-active my prime access but will issue a full refund of $59! go figure!

if you A/B Klipsch's against something flatter they can sound pretty crazy, but if you live with them there's nothing wrong with the sound profile and a lot of music actually sounds great on them, even if they are colouring the sound a bit (they're certainly doing no more harm than the folks who like to crank on their graphic equalisers that's for sure). If you're getting them for your home theatre setup you definitely have nothing to worry about (except for the fact they may not be big enough for you ;) ).

for what little its worth, I'd take these over the seemingly popular Edifiers any day.

    • Any bookshelf speakers would sound better than the cheap edifiers, s3000pro is on another level though

    • Flat is good though. You want good speakers to sound flat and still hold great quality and powerful sound in that flatness.

    • is this worth upgrading to from the volls

  • Just coped a pair of these thanks OP

  • +1

Miss my Jamo j112 subwoofer, that thing was a beast. Best ever home theatre upgrade. (Klipsch own Jamo).

The matching centre channel for these speakers is $450+

You'd be crazy to pay that, better just to get 2 sets of the bookshelf and use 3 of them in LCR configuration.

  • I understand these speakers can be a bit ‘tiring’ with their strong treble, but wonder if they are good for home theatre, either as front or rear speakers?

Also my receiver, in the Yamaha 1840B system, also from a deal here at only $270, only supports 6 ohm. Would it be a concern given these speakers are 8 ohm?

    • Came here with the same question.
Anyone using these as L/R for the back speakers? Is it good? Or is it overpriced as tears? Worth it?

      • You probably want to get dedicated surround speakers that have a wider field of sound.

Only reason to use these as rears would be because you have the exact same fronts.

      • Using them for my rears, they’re good.

    • Using them as rears in my HT setup, not tiring at all. Produce good quality, punchy sound for surround effects.

    • Just don’t put them in an actual bookshelf.

"Folks, I suffer with bad sound so you don't have to. Please avoid the Klipsch R-41M unless you just want a speaker as an ornament"

That's the conclusion of this detailed review involving test measurements and subjective listening

if only we had the wealth of better, and similarly priced, alternatives here that they do in the states.

    • +1

They sound fine. Not as good as my Elacs, or my Pioneers but not nearly as bad as those enthusiast forum snobs would have you believe. You really won't find much in that price range, everything comparable is at least 100 more expensive.

      • +1

what about the edifiers? s35db and also the R1700BT

        • +1

They arent passive. You have the choice of the P12 P17.

I have the P17. They are quite ok and surprising good for $100 passives.

I question whether its correct to call people who brang the evidence and charts as 'snobs'.

I will say that with decent and select choosing of amplifiers then even poor speakers can sound ok.

With a sufficiently strong and less bright amp AND with a crossover and a sub, then I feel like these speakers can also sound good.

Be that as it may, there is no one better, no one more authorative than Amir from ASR.

          • @tonyjzx: I'm buying this for a friend who is using it for desktop and music only. I'm not sure what the difference with active/passive is, but do you have a recommendation for what would sound the best under $300?

            • @Feeblely: Active = has amps inside

Passive = you need to buy an amp + cables to hook up

As always just buy those cheap $100-$120-$150 Edifier 2.1 sets. They are good enough.

      • Some (non audiophiles) people hate the sound of these though. It just depends on personal preference.

    • thks, haven't read the review, BUT they are only 4" woofers, and my experience with 4" woofers (have 3 different 4" speaker set ups in rooms) hasn't been good from a sound perspective, it's not brand, it's basic laws of physics …think I will wait for 5" or 6" speakers to have a deal going.

      • You could pair these with an el cheapo SMSL amp and for 250 total they are pretty hard to beat as a value system.

  • +6

Most of the people here will be better off buying decent edifiers.

    • +1

      S3000pro..yes. others ..no

      • S880DB are also dope.

Hey guys I currently have the Klipsch Reference theatre pack (https://www.klipsch.com.au/products/reference-theater-pack-a…) and wondering if these are better and can replace the front two to go to 7.1 surround. Thanks for any input.

  • +1

There’s gonna be a lot of contradiction in this thread I can feel it already

    • +5

There isn't going to be any contradiction I'm this thread

      • +4

There will be contradiction in this comment.

  • as compared to the Elac Debut B5.2 or the B6.2?

    • I have the Elac Debut B6.2's and they're fantastic! I can't compare as i've never owned Klipsch, but I can't imagine these speakers coming close to the Elacs, especially for movies etc

    • Elac 's would be better, not great but better. Remember these are 4-inch woofers, so the 5.2 and 6.2 are already better off having much bigger 5 and 6 inch woofers.

For a similar price I will still recommend the JBL Stage A130's (and in this price bracket the A120s) til the cows come home. I own all three, the R-51M's, the Elac 5.2's and the A130s.

Can someone link a $9000 diamond plated HDMI cable off Amazon so I can get the most out of these.

  • Probably a stupid question but is their anyway of running both of these speakers off one centre channel as the centre channel? Not keen on spending $400 on just a centre.

    • +2

No, though you can run one of them as the centre. I bought 2 x sets and will run 3 of them in L, C, R configuration (with a spare).

      • Ahhh I see, I wouldn't run them in a LCR fashion as I have some very nice AAD towers up front but the centre from the same brand that's supposed to compliment them just doesn't sound as bright.

      • Always good to keep a spare in the boot.

  • +1

Bought these to replace my old wharfedales for my vinl player, really happy with the sound, played with the EQ a bit and it sounds significantly better than my old speakers. At this price range its a no brainer.

  • I'm looking to buy a Douk Amplifier. Is that okay? I'm kind of new to this.

  • $163 + $88 delivery = $251.

I’m going to set ozbargin.com to 127.0.0.1 in my DNS. Purchased.

  • I am running a R-14M rear speakers on my Klipsch R24-F 5.1.2 setup with Polk audio ceiling speakers.
Would these R-41M be much of an upgrade to the rear speakers? My Amp is a Yamaha Rx-v685.
I watch a lot of Dolby Atmos / DD content. Thank you!

    • +1

No IMO. Similar speaker plus the 685 is an entry level amp hence power for rear doesn't require a high powered rated speaker.

      • +1

Thanks so much for the advice Vinni9284.

  • Thanks OP. These will be a good replacement for some 20yo Polk surrounds that are fairly tired.

  • This or the 1700bt

    Get what you pay for…

    • Life is like a box of chocolates…..

    • Except the deals found on ozbargain, you sometimes get a whole lot more.

  • Good for using with a turntable?

    • 8 track is where it's at.

  • +1

Paired with a sub, would this be suitable for basic home theatre with the Pioneer VSX-933 driving them?
Or are there better options to look at around this price point?

    • +1

Yeah, a sub will definitely fill out your sound. These speakers range 68hz-21khz, and likely have a weak response (I haven't looked up a chart) under I'm guessing around 80hz. Almost any little sub will fill out the range for more depth. Be a nice little 2.1 set up!

These are a bright speaker with the horn style tweeter, jump into a hifi store and listen to a pair of klipsch and see if you like the tonality of them first if you aren't sure, but at this price you can't really go wrong.

  • Good value speakers, a little too bright for my ears but I'm sure lots of people will be very happy with them.

  • Would these be ok as rears in 5.0 setup, or too bright if fronts were more nornal sounding

  • I ran a pair of these reference but 6" horn speakers for many years you will need a subwoofer to go with them if you want your doofdoof.
Get a cheap class D amp plus bluetooth 5.0 DAC adapter and your good to go. It's way better than any rubbish out there.
    I love Klipsch.

  • Made in?

  • $0.81 increase to $163.97

  • I got the KEF Q100 Bookshelf Speakers. Is this better on the specs?

    • +1

No, the Q100 is better - I own a set too.

      • cheers mate.

  • +1

I cant get free delivery option - I have prime

    • Yes, but price changed to $131.

      • I have prime and got it at $163 with free delivery. I see now the price is $131 with $88 delivery fee.

        • Correct.

    • It now says 'Not eligible for Amazon Prime'

  • Damm missed out!
