  • No specs on that GTD page at all.Or did I miss something?

    • I’ll link to the Kef site. Idk why there’s nothing on that page.

There is an issue on the page, the description is hidden by related products. It appears briefly though. Tested on mobile.

  • Why not a svs sealed sub at similar price point?

    • The SVS 3000 Micro is about $1700

      • +1

Oh so you were specifically after size not just a sealed sub?
        An svs sb1000 is $800 delivered https://www.todds.com.au/products/svs-sb-1000

        • Thank you for this. I’ll have a look and compare - don’t know too much about subs.

          • @moneywaster: Then I suggest you also brush up on neighbourly impact,if you haven't already

            • @Protractor: My neighbour is a total POS anyway haha.

              • @moneywaster: He may reciprocate that sentiment. It's one of those growing suburban /council conflicts. )
But keep in mind the frequency affects more than the adjacent property. Doesn't hurt to be considerate.Don't be the next AH in the area.Just sayin'

          • @moneywaster: SVS is regarded as the best at this price.

        • Says both "More stock arriving mid September" and "pickup in 2 to 4 days"

Tone Winner best bang for buck subs atm :-).

Many YT vids out there attesting to level of performance and how low (in Hz) they can go.

12in for touch over $1000, 10in for less than $900 (incl free delivery).

Had the 15in since its launch in Oz and punches very far above its price range. Replaced a DefTech bought in similar price range that was no slouch, but offers so much more for the $.

The svs i linked above is 12 inch for $800 delivered and has years of solid creds

Sealed & latest version, the Pro, actually >$1200.

If you want the ported version >$1500.

Worth considering your individual use case for sealed v ported. I do however stand by bang for buck statement on Tone Winner subs. SVS were certainly leaders in value category for a while, but currency exchange rate & how much extra you get in competitor offerings lately, mean they've been toppled.

Everybody should do their own research, work out use case & preferably audition the sound themselves if possible.

        YMMV.

        • Sub woofers haven't changed all that much. For what the OP listed, the SVS 12 inch at $800 is real good value compared to the higher pricer tone winner for an equivalent 12 inch.

            @zxcvb: Agree to disagree.

Check reviews of old v Pro SVS.

Again, there are also differences b/w sealed v ported that should be taken into account for your individual use case.

Best way to decide though is to audition.

IMHO Tone Winner leaves SVS in the dust, after auditioning both for my use case.

            Have you auditioned both?

Agree that both are better value than the KEF here.

            • @opposablethumbs: I'm sure there are differences but it's diminishing returns. The changes aren't so much that old subs that go low are now somehow obsolete, for most users foraying into the world of home theatre, they are much more sensitive to price and getting the basics right. If the sub is made well and has a decent amplifier it will do well.

In this instance, the SVS is far better value and a 12 inch compared to OPs 10 inch micro sub.

    • Is it good for music too compared to SVS?

      • Generally speaking, sealed subs will be a bit tighter for music than ported subs, but you can actually block off the ports to make a sub run as sealed if you like.

Need to determine if your usage will be predominantly movies or music or a mix of both.

I use my TW D6000 (15in) for both movies and music and it is no slouch in either.

ToneWinner subs tend to go a bit lower than others in same price range, including SVS.

I have an eclectic range of musical tastes from orchestral to heavy rock and the ToneWinner adds a great deal to the bottom end (including more of the vibrations you feel rather than hear, depending on your age, level of hearing etc.)

Impact and overall mix does also depend on room setup, what other speakers you are running and where you set your sub crossover, but best way to determine which suits you best is to audition both with a selection of the types of music you tend to listen to.

        • Predominantly music, I don't watch movies much.

But if sealed subs work better - Would it be better off to just buy sealed subs rather than ported one and block the ports off?

Is there anything else you would recommend in this price range? 10-12in would be suffcient. 15in is bit extreme for avg-sized living rooms.

          • @OzHan: Looks like the ToneWinner prices I saw were sale prices and have gone up slightly since I commented.

If it's only music and the SVS 12in Classic sealed is still at $800 shipped then that is likely to be as good a bang for buck as you can get for your needs.

  • Worth upgrading for two more inches from edifier T5?

  • it's been $800 on amazon. https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07829Q448

no stock anymore but amazon has plenty of kef stuff sometimes they show one of their products in the deals tab.

    • Agreed , $1000 is lot to pay for a 10 inch sub.

  • Don't forget to buy 2

    • As long as you have the space - I don't. Don't want to turn the living room into a theater either.
