Yes, this was previously posted here: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54713

However, the phone was listed as out of stock on the website but is now back again. Not a bad alternative if you missed out on the HTC Incredible S with Optus (network locked) here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56117.

Click on the pre-paid tab on the page to get the $269 price (10% off prepaid mobiles online). $299 in store.

Use Moneyback Co to get it for $242.

Last deal reported phone as UNLOCKED, however, the fine print for this deal suggests otherwise? Anyone care to chime in before people buy it?

Deal details:

  • Mobile phone (Unlocking fee applies)
  • Prepaid SIM starter pack
  • $10 Bonus credit after your first recharge

All I saw was Galaxy Nexus for $269. :(

    • Sorry, tough luck. It's the Nexus S(!).

Still ICS will hit this phone in Dec?

  • +4

It's definitely unlocked. It's just the standard fine print that goes on all the phones. Also available in store for $299 (plenty of stock around).

    • Thanks for confirmation.

Nexus S cannot be locked AFAIK.

The only thing holding me back is the fact that this phone doesn't use the 850mhz which is used by VF and T$, which are the two networks I would use, especially as I live in semi-rural areas with marginal coverage. I guess that is why there is a discount.

    • +1

vodafone's 850mhz 3g network does not exist in rural or regional areas, its all 900mhz spectrum for these places. vodafone's 850mhz 3g is just urban infill to relieve the stress on their 2100mhz spectrum.

        I think,
        vodafone's 850mhz 3g is just urban myth.
I have yet to see any performance increase after moving to the Galaxy S II
(using phone between Sydney City and Macquarie Uni)

        • Nah I've noticed it at home. Went from a few bars of 2g to full 3g reception.

  • Is there definitely $84 moneybackco cashback? I clicked on the link and it says the $84 is for Vodafone PLANS?

    • 10% cashback for prepaid phones.

  • Is the general consensus that there is little in the way of difference between this phone and the HTC Incredible S? I.e. they both have some positives and negatives, but on the whole there is not much splitting them.

    • From another thread:

I was deciding between them too but chose the Nexus
      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3910&idPhone2=…

      Incredible S vs Nexus S
      8MP vs 5MP
      720p vs WVGA recording
Gorilla glass vs scratch resistant glass
MicroSD slot vs no expandable memory
      Locked vs unlocked
      Optus branded vs vanilla

Faster CPU on Incredible (I think but Nexus has a faster GPU)
Nexus S (with Voodoo) possibly has the best audio quality you can get on a phone

      • thanks for that so the Incredible S has higher specs overall then the Nexus S?. now i have to try and find a kmart that still has one in stock.

      • +1

Don't forget ICS is coming, and Nexus S will get it wayyyy before Incredible - assuming Incredible ever does.

Apart from that, the Hummingbird chipset should be faster than the Qualcomm one on Incredible.
Why do you say the Incredible's is faster?

I can also confirm this is unlocked. Got this myself around the end of September from Vodafone (as a prepaid outright).

  • Very happy with mine (bought about 2 weeks ago). The only possible problem you might run into is finding a case which fits, most of the cases seem to be for the US model, not the Aussie one which is (I believe) slightly thicker.

It is not able to upgraded to android 4.0
