Samsung 427L Bottom Mount Fridge SRL4200B $898 Delivered @ Appliances Online

160

I know most people say stay away from Samsung, but this appears to be their 'basic' model without fancy ice making shit so perhaps it might be safer/more reliable. Side note, family member has one, and no complaints so far.

As someone commented recently in Appliances Online referral thread,, a referral gets an extra $50 off instead of $30 for newsletter signup.

I did get this deal, got the $50 off, free delivery (might be postcode dependant?), free take away old fridge for a total of $848 - suited our needs.

as a tech that fixes all fridges, stay away from all appliances.

      • +2

Hmm… I have a lot of appliances that have worked perfectly for years and make my life immeasurably easier, but I guess I'll throw them all in the bin.

Anybody got deals on a washboard and some lye? Or a cool, wet sack I can keep my milk in?

  • Should come with a free fire extinguisher and a free Note 7

  • +7

I've had first hand experience, both my fridges are Samsung.

1 x top mount (14 years and still going)
1 x side by side (11 years and still going)

Don't want to jinx myself, but I feel the whole Samsung negativity has been blown out of proportion from a small window where Samsung top loader washing machines were catching fire.

This! Our Samsung bottom mount has been going strong for the past 8 years and she is just flawless and keeps things fresh.

Yeah, it turns out most major companies actually don't put out a ton of products with a 100% failure rate, unlike what you hear on OzBargain.

Now, if you heard a product has a disproportionately high failure rate, you may steer clear, but if you know how to navigate the ACL and consumer guarantees, you shouldn't be at too much risk regardless.

  • Does anyone know if it is free to return a small coffe appliance? Or would it be at our cost.

    • This kind of stuff always depends on the reason for the return. If it's faulty, then it's the vendor's responsibility to offer a refund, replacement or repair. That's Australian consumer law. If it's you changing your mind, then you'd be lucky if they accept a return at all. Read the fine print of the website you used to buy the appliance.

      • They allow 7 day change of mind returns provided thatbthe otem has not been opened.

I just wanted to know if I would be out of pocket.

I bought the cheapest Samsung fridge I could find about… it's got to be 16+ plus years ago now, and it's still going fine.

    knock on wood

  • My Samsung fridge just broken today after 4 years. Not sure if 1k fridge last 4 years is normal nowadays. Looking for replacement but I might stay away from Samsung for now.

    • +5

I'd go to the vendor and claim a repair, refund or replacement. Fridges are surely expected to last longer than 4 years. Check https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/buying-products-and-servic… for more details.

      • I have heard about this but never done this before. Would you mind clarify a bit more. I have tried contact samsung but they just refused as of out of warranty - 2 years

        • +1

In essence, according to Australian Consumer Law, your product should last a period of time that a reasonable person might expect that product to last. A fridge, for example. In my opinion, they should reasonably last 8-10 years. 4 years is below this, and by a fair margin. Australia Consumer Law supersedes any warranty outlined by the manufacturer, as it is your right by law as an Australian citizen to be delivered a product that is acceptable and free from defects within a reasonable period.

In short, contact the ACCC. They may take some time, but I think you'll be able to get a resolution through them.

          • +1

@dongltron: Or rather threaten the vendor that you'd go to ACCC if they didn't budge. Usually that's anuch faster pathway to success

          • +1

@dongltron: Not the ACCC - They handle corporate-level issues.

You want to contact Consumer Affairs for things like this.

            • @Vinnie Vegas: @dongsltron Thanks you all for the support. Unfortunately we are family of 4 without too much living space. We end up bought new fridge from appliance online and let them bring the old fridge away.

Can anyone tell me why a fridge on the top = bottom-mount fridge in description?

Shouldn't it be, "bottom-mount freezer", or, "top-mount fridge"???

    • +2

The phrase "top mount" or "bottom mount" refers to the position of the freezer, but the product itself is fridge.

      • It does, but Geekomatic is right to note the absurdity of people calling it a "bottom mounted fridge" rather than a fridge with bottom mounted freezer. We used to just call it an upside-down fridge.

I've had this model for 6 months now. So far so good.
    Pro's
    -Pretty quiet and efficient
    -Wi-fi connectivity
    -Clean look
    -Great inside lighting
    Cons
-The handles are in an awkward position
-The glass shelves seem to flex with some weight on them.

  • Showing $917 for me now. Was indeed $898 yesterday.

    • +1

So haggle, You know how low they can go now.

      • Yep did exactly that. $898 no questions asked.
