I remember HN doing these for $399 a couple of years ago, they were the days!

    Great machine.

I got one from that deal! Still going strong 6 years later. Making two coffees at a day with this and hasn't skipped a beat

Me too! In the same boat. The hot water dispenser died suddenly about 6 months ago, and would randomly switch on whilst trying to pull a shot, so I just opened it up and disconnected the power supply to the hot water pump. Was able to pull shots as usual after that. Such a solid machine. Would buy again.

My EM6910 had the same issue when I got it second hand. Scale build up in the solenoids can stop them from closing properly, and since there's a lot less resistance through the hot water path than the group it'll 'choose' the hot water path. I ran some reasonably strong descaler through it and it stopped randomly squirting out hot water while pulling shots.

That said I never use the hot water side so your solution seems a lot easier

@Carnal: Thanks so much for the info! Yeah we never use the hot water thingy either, it was never really hot enough to make a cup of tea, and to warm an espresso cup for a tasty espresso we just run a shot of hot water thru into the cup. I think the water temp was hotter from the group head, or whatever its called :)

@PotPlant: Same thing happened to mine - Sunbeam support weren't much help.

Gave it a good descale and it has been fighting fit since (assume the 3-way valve had schmutz in it). Mine's about 2.5 years old, averages about 5 cups / day.

Pretty happy with it - doesn't have the cred of an Italian machine, but it does a good / consistent job.

Same here. Can't believe all these years later and the price hasn't fallen

I bought one for $399 over 6 years ago too! One of my favourite OzB's, especially considering I'm still using it twice daily. It's a brilliant machine.

    • Oh the walk down memory lane. Still remember when I got it from this deal. The machine is as good as it was back then. Descaling and change of filter are the only things I have done. Would buy this again if mine ever breaks no doubt.

  • This espresso machine from Sunbeam serves 13 cups of rich, silky espresso.

    13 cups??

Yeah then you throw it out and get a new one. Crazy expensive way to make coffee.

I have one, and have had it for six or seven years now. Makes a decent coffee. And has definitely produced more than 13 coffees ;)

  • How does this compare to the Breville dual boiler (BES920)?

    • +3

heats up quicker, same quality coffee, i own both, bought the breville thinking it would make better coffee, not the case, same quality milk texturing, same quality espresso.

      • Agree, bought this for a mate at $399. I bought BES920 but really think this is a better machine. Considering COVID pricing this is definitely the better buy.

    • Difference would be the noise though. Thermoblocks are crazy noisy compared to boilers. I suspect thermoblocks also are quicker to heat up, compared to boilers, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

    • The BES920 is a dual boiler, and the EM7000 is a dual thermoblock machine so they can both brew and steam simultaneously, however how they do it is quite different.
I have not used this one so cannot really comment other than others reports on productreview etc.
From what I could gather the EM7000 has been out since 2012 so manufacturing issues should be well sorted by now (you would hope).

  • At these price levels you're better off with a Gaggia Classic or Pro ?

    • +2

the gaggia doesn’t froth milk and do espresso at the same time , sunbeam does.

  • compare with Sunbeam PU8000 ???torino ?
which one should i pick? does Torino have better milk texturing?

  • The em7000 or BES840 (barista express minus the grinder)? I might just save up for a Silvia with PID installed for the quality and durability.
