Looking just at the thumbnail, I have no idea what it is

It's an espresso maker but instead of having a pump to generate pressure to push the water through a puck of ground beans to extract coffee, it does it using a manual leaver to recreate enough water pressure to extract coffee.

Sheesh I didn’t realise how much these things have climbed in price. The flair 1 was my first espresso machine and was pretty fun, but the convenience of an automatic machine like the Bambino - especially when the Bambino usually costs less - makes me pass on this deal. The Flair is a coffee hobbiest machine, in my view. Don’t get me wrong; these can make great coffee but you better love making coffee!

  • Damn, I’ve always wanted one of these. I have a Bambino Plus and a Kingrinder K6. They’re great.

Probably a good time to buy, tbh.

Flair Pro 3 has been released, and Flair itself has sold out of Pro 2 already…so whatever international stock is left is it.

Pretty much the only difference is a thinner "no preheat" cylinder - probably a benefit if you are pulling dark roast (and can avoid pre-heating). But for lighter roasts you will still need to pre-heat - and it's been suggested that the thinner cylinder is actually worse for light roast, because it has a lower thermal mass and wont be able to be preheated as well.

They also changed the way the frame connects - no longer has the physical "hook", and now has to be screwed in (previously, you didnt need to screw it down, because the physical hook was sufficient). Older connection would be more physically secure I reckon (when screwed in), and being able to leave it unscrewed is also better if you are packing it down frequently.

So yeah, if you're keen on a Flair Pro (rather than Flair58 or Flair Classic), I think now would be the time to buy a Pro 2 - and get the benefit of the clear-out pricing (on an arguably better version than the new one!).

I would get one, but I already kickstartered the Flair Go (and have locked myself into the smaller 40mm pf size). This is a decent enough price, but not cheap enough for me to justify, just to buy into the 46mm pf size! (Unfortunately, my Flair Signature is an OG one, that is not upgradable to the Pro brewhead - otherwise I would have done that!)
