Has been sitting at $498 for a few months, it did hit a low of $399 at the end of December. Price history available here

I've been waiting for a price drop to give it a crack. I have no experience with bean coffee machines having only ever used a pod machine. With Amazon's return policy I think this is a good place to start, knowing I can return it within 30 days should it not produce coffee to my taste. Also with limited settings it doesn't appear too overwhelming.

It was about $100 cheaper about a month ago… ($349)

    • Missed that one.. where was that from?

      • +2

It popped up in the insufficient qty deals in early Jan…

  • Hmm wonder what amazon do with returned appliances

    • Really good I had a air fryer that was rusting got refund in warranty with only 1 month left but had to send old one back but they pay for postage. Just push that ur not happy. Spoke using online support. Was really ezy. Russel Hobbs such a crap brand fyi.

      • Thanks man

      • yeah had Russel Hobbs before. Thought they good brand but very crap quality probably chinese crap

should it not produce coffee to my taste.

That will be mainly due to the coffee beans you buy…

    • True, something else i will need to tinker with once i get the machine! Any suggestions?

      • +2

With this machine, it is mainly the grind size and the strength of the dose…

There are a couple of good youtube videos on how to set it up best.

        • Thanks

@MJD91: you'll get a voucher from DeLonghi for 20% off for a month too…(when you register)

I got a DeLonghi jug for frothing (the black one which is bigger)
and the DeLonghi signature coffee beans which are quite good.

        • Keep in mind that adjusting the grinder ultra fine (i.e. just before choking the machine as a lot of YT videos suggest) puts a lot of strain on the components, and will significantly reduce the life of the machine.

Given the price, that may or may not be a concern for you.

It's best to up the coffee dosage via the 'strength' adjustment before grinding finer with these.

          • @wintermadness:

Keep in mind that adjusting the grinder ultra fine

mine is at about 80% and does a really nice crema…

            • @jv: I found that 50% was fine enough for me. I usually turn coffee grinders to the finest by default.

        • JV? That's constructive! Have you changed your meds???

    • I mean to an extent prob the machine too… only so much a sub $500 machine can do… I just ordered a Delonghi Eletta explore and I’m still not sure if I’ll be happy with it.

      • +1

only so much a sub $500 machine can do…

mine tastes better than a lot of the local cafes we go to…

Can’t go past Aldi lazzio beans for value n taste

      • +1

I have an Eletta titanium, i see you have just got an Eletta and, if you are going to splurge on a machine like this start buying the decent beans you see on here from Lime Blue etc and after a week the Aldi will taste like slop. Try Downtown or San Paolo. I chucked my Aldi beans in the bin.

Don't worry about the Eletta quality, unless you are super anal and into 4k manual machines its a damm good machine that makes perfect coffees, well for me anyway.

        • Cool mate will order those when next deal pops up

I did splurge for the titanium too ( ECAM450.86.T) (the naming conventions are frankly all over the shop)

  • We’ve never used a coffee machine. Is this noob friendly or go for capsule ones?

    • +1

      Is this noob friendly

yes… and way better than capsules

I have this, bought it when it was $800 back in 2021. Nice to have an auto coffee machine all you need to do is press buttons. However, also think about descaling the machine which can be laborious. The more frequent you use it, the more frequent you have to descale. So I went back to my Nespresso pod lols

    • +1

To give it some context descaling involves filling the tank with water and a bit of descaler, placing a tub under the hot water spout to catch it and pressing a button. Once it's done, fill tank with water and it repeats to rinse so not exactly what I'd call laborious.

You should be descaling your pod machine too btw ;)

      • Agreed, it takes time but it's mostly hands-off.

    • Pod machines are utter garbage compared to this machine.

Descaling only happens frequently if you've got hard water (eg high calcium) and you have set the machine accordingly. If you have good water, like Melbourne (and I'm sure other cities), then you set water hardness to 1 and descale very infrequently.

As others have said, it's mostly hands off and pretty basic to descale.

close to a year now with one.
The descaling light is constantly on since the machine came back from the service center however it doesn't stop the machine function anymore. I descale on a set schedule anyway. Was told I wasn't correctly following the descaling procedure which is BS and then the guy told me to use Delonghi branded descaler, also BS. The shop must have done something to the machine to stop it hindering from descaling requirements not allowing function.
I have the calibrated the ground and shot qty looking at a youtube video. Its not cafe grade but a good second considering how little effort it needs when making one.

    • As someone who previously worked with De'Longhi machines, most likely the guy wasn't lying - you really need to follow the directions word for word - a lot of people skip the second rinsing cycle and the machine won't register it as the process being completed. If you aren't filling the tank fully during the rinsing then it might even ask you to refill it 3 or 4 times before it's actually finished.

These machines will only inform you it's time to descale, but not prevent you from using it - there's no need to bypass anything

  • Mine lasted about 2 years, then developed a leak which I couldn't easily fix.

I then bought the delonghi Evo, but couldn't get a good coffee out of it, the magnifica s was somehow so much better.

Good price and I preferred the manual milk steaming vs the auto milk crap on the evo.
