Some solid lappy deals dropping, I'm needing a loungeroom heavy web browsing/statistics laptop without a need for gaming. Do I wait till tomorrow or pull the trigger on current offers. Decisions decisions, thanks TA for posting these offers. It's hard when there's so many options! Haha

    • Depending on the volume of data you use for statistics, you're going to need more than 8gb of ram and apparently this only has one ram slot. Also, most high performance machine learning libraries only work with NVIDIA GPUs.

    • more than enough ohmphh for 1080p gaming by all accounts
call and upgrade from 8>16gb for under $150 or DIY after for as little as $90 on sale these days, less after you flip the old 8gb it replaces
usb charger -this should be standard on all laptops, so nice to see! like the backlit kbd and security finger print it included too

way better value than the newest xps dell 13"

  • +4

Downside on this latest model is only 1 ram slot.

    • At least with DDR4 you can get a 16gb module

      • There is actually a Samsung 32gb module as well. You can get it on Amazon. Just I think 2 sticks are usually better than one for speed.

  • +5

    T480 please your Arseness

    • +1

I second that. Need A ThinkPad T series laptop

      • Do you reckon we can get it <=1000?
Also I checked Lenovo website other day they had code LASTCHANCE for it doesn't mean they're discontinuing right?

    • +1

      It’s always the crappy models

    • +1

I got my T480s with i5/touchscreen/8gb on ebay at the start of the year for $1100. Seller was exleasecomputers but it was brand new with 3 Yr warranty

      • I bought the same laptop from the same seller.

        Great deal

  • great ssd

  • Can the ram be changed to 16 gb by any chance before buying?

    • If it doesn't show configurator then maybe ask Lenovo chat?

      • +1

This batch of E14 laptops are pre-assembled and ship locally (within 2 business days) so unfortunately not configurable prior to purchase.

        • Any S730/740 deals?

    • Should be about $100 to buy your own.

  • Lenovo really need to pull their finger out and get some Intel 10th Gen processors in their higher end ThinkPads.

    • +1

No they don't.. plenty of dimwits out there still paying big bucks and don't care.

      • +1

They do, as their competition are able to supply it in most models.

        • Dimwits still don't care.. they can buy two.

    • In USA, X1 Carbon already has 10th gen, it is also so sad seeing how much more customising options they have and how much cheaper their pricing is. You can get p73 from USA for the price of t590 in AU

  • +7

Thanks for the deal post TA!

Although the intel spec is really nothing to get excited about, especially at that price compare to last gen.

The CPU is still a 4-core/8-threads 14nm re-hash, so performance wise, it is not going to be that much different to the existing 4-core/8-threads i7 CPUs (within ~0-10% depending on tasks), the integrated GPU side is still the same old (disgracefully only ~25% raw performance improvement than 2013, that's over ~5.5 years…sigh).

The discrete GPU RX640, looking at the spec on notebookcheck, is pretty much a rebranded RX550, and performs bit lesser than nVidia MX150.

So overall, the main spec is quite meh, and if you've already got 4-core/8-threads CPU and discrete graphics laptop, this isn't going to improve much at all.

If the previous E490/E490s deals can still be negotiated, they'll still be much better value.

    • +1

Yeah the mobile GPUs are really quite disappointing. Need to get some damn Vega action going on at least, but navi is ideal. Those 5700/XT cards have some great $/flop value.

This makes the sub-$1k ASUS Tuf laptop deals look even better value.
For the price surely they can provide 16GB RAM and a meaningful GPU?

    • Asus Tuf is a great buy at the moment

  • +1

You definitely need 16 GB ram at this price point. Touch screen would be a nice bounus

However if this had 16GB RAM I would jump on it without second thoughts

    • +5

Why do you hate laptops with 16 gb ram so much that you would jump on them?

      • I think you have been doing a lot of online shopping for black Friday

I wrote if this laptop "HAD" not hate"

  • -5

8GB RAM with Windows is pretty much useless, unless you are a light user! Windows + start up apps itself would consume about 3-4GB memory. Linux would do heaps better (<1GB mem) but after trying so many different flavours, having issues with touchpad, ultrawide screen etc

    • so pretty much not useless?

      • huh.. care to explain? My point is you are stuck with 8GB and Windows!

    • Not sure why I get negs, this model has only 1 RAM slot and you can't upgrade to 16GB while ordering! Also max you can upgrade to is 16GB vs 32GB for 2 slots. At that price there are better options!

      • Windows 10 is fine even with 4GB RAM.

        • -1

Yes, for 10 minutes after booting.

Is it still fine after opening a few browser tabs and other apps - 30 mins later?!

      • -1

didn't neg you , but i guess many still rocking 8gb ram with no issues whatsover

        • -2

thanks for explaining. I wouldn't drop $1277 for a laptop that barely runs and will be crawling in near future. Windows memory consumption only keeps increasing with new versions! Chrome with a tabs itself would take GBs of RAM!

  • +1

@tightarse can you help with a 2-in-1 laptop deals? X395?

  • p53 deal pls

  • +2

been considering a x1 carbon gen7 but these deals always seem to be for the lower end thinkpads.
maybe (hopefully) something better spec'd tomorrow!

    • Keen for Carbon X1 Gen 7 also! Shopping express has a solid deal but hoping TA can come through with the goods on cyber Monday on a CC1 gen 7!

  • Lenovo might give better prices after the boxing day to improve sales numbers

  • the base E14 is also on sale with 50% off @$999 but your going from i7>i5 with no discreet graphics

so for $277 you get a better cpu and dicreet graphics (think its amd based and about the same as the MX150) but it also combines with the intergrated GPU so probably is a fraction better

its great for 1080p gaming. batt life is 6+ hours in the real world

it has 1)usb-c charger!!! 2) backlit kbd and 3) fingerprint security login (prob can do face ID too as its a good quality 720p cam)

newegg/au has 16gb for $80ish and 32gb from $200 and max for a single dimm it allows is 64gb and has to be user upgraded as these are prebuilt it seems but its a 5min easy job and you can also drop in a HD (SSD, Hybrid or HD )2.5" if your so inclined at the same time if the 512gb isnt big enough for your manga p*rn collection!

  • @tightarse still no notification from cashreward about my purchase for this item.
